Mexicana is a local take out spot in the Epicurious Garden in Berkeley. The food is always fresh and from scratch. From the tacos, burritos, house made corn tortillas and salsas- everything is delicious! It is a family run business and the owner Noe is so kind, cheerful and welcoming. He remembers my whole family each time we come which is weekly these days :) His service goes above and beyond and not something you often find for the price. If you live with dietary requirements, this place is a gem. Everything is listed clearly on the menu-displayed on the tv above the counter for full transparency! Many gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian and dairy -free options. All the food is nut-free. It is so special to have this place in Berkeley- make this your new regular spot! Support Noe and his lovely family-he puts so much care into his food- you won't regret it and neither will your belly :)

Went here for late lunch on a Friday and the service was great and they had a quick turnaround. Ordered a carnitas burrito that was delicious. The carnitas was juicy and tender. They added a green sauce that added to the flavor. Good sized portion too. Highly recommend this hidden gem.

Just tried this place for the first time and WOW! I had their Huevos A La Mexicana breakfast burrito and it’s one of the best I’ve had in town. It was a messy to eat but that’s how you know it’s the real deal! Seating is outside and wasn’t too crowded for a Sunday. The staff was very friendly. I will definitely be going back to try the rest of their menu!

I don’t understand why this place is not more popular. I usually go for dinner and have never had to wait in line.

This is my favorite Mexican place in Berkeley. The food is delicious — always super fresh and well-seasoned. I often get the simplest thing on the menu (the rice and beans burrito) because it’s cheap and incredibly flavorful. Truly exceptional value for money! Plus, the place is run by a sweet family who are there 7 days a week. They treat you like an old friend. And of course the garden is the most lovely place to eat outdoors in Berkeley!

A hidden place of taste and simplicity in North Berkeley. This discrete restaurant is my go-to place when I need comfort food. The team is wonderful. I'll have to stop here, an appealing tortilla is waiting for me.

The food is so good it makes me feel warm and comforted. And considering he portion size the price is incredibly reasonable for the area.

Tasty quick fresh Mexican food. It's my go to spot in Berkeley. The owner is a great dude. 2024 update: Food is even better and you won't be skimped on portions. A must visit.

Very decent Mexican food, feels like a food truck so not too pricey either. Friendly service and our kids loved the quesadillas!

I have mixed feelings about Mexicana. On one hand, the value is OK and the atmosphere in being across from Cheeseboard and in Epicurious garden is great. On the other hand, the food (particularly, the nachos) are pretty mid. The meat was over cooked, though the shrimp was ok, and the cheese was not melted. The salsa was good but the flavors overall were lackluster. Not really sure how in California a Mexican restaurant can have this high a rating but taste like this. This should be a 4.0 restaurant TOPS.
