The fried pickles, Big Green Pimp Burger, and bomb fries were fantastic. This is new #1 burger all time. Great service as well. Will definitely be back.
Small, hole in the wall place to grab some excellent food at great prices!!! Bought food for 3 people, spent $75 total, including tip! Thoroughly impressed! I had the "Slabtown Soul Plate", my wife had the "Crab Cake BLT", with fries. Neither of us had to season ANYTHING!! 11/10 do recommend!!
Mudtown Eat & Drink is a true Birmingham treasure. Tucked away on Green Valley Road, it’s the kind of neighborhood spot where the food is incredible, the service is genuinely friendly, and the atmosphere feels like a warm welcome home. You absolutely cannot visit without starting with their “World Famous” Fried Green Tomatoes. They are perfectly crispy and paired with a tangy white sauce and corn relish that sets the bar for Southern appetizers. For the main course, the Slabtown Soul Plate is a game-changer—Nashville hot chicken over garlic cheddar grits with collard greens and Conecuh sausage. It’s hearty, flavorful, and pure comfort on a plate. If you’re in the mood for a sandwich, their Monte Cristo with pepper jelly is a local favorite for a reason, and the Charleston Shrimp & Grits never misses the mark. Whether you’re grabbing a drink at the bar, enjoying the outdoor seating on a nice day, or bringing the whole family for dinner, Mudtown consistently delivers a top-notch experience. It’s casual dining at its absolute best!
The absolute highlight of my visit to Birmingham for work. The Slabtown Soul Plate is a must - just the right amount of heat from the Nashville chicken paired with the perfectly seasoned grits and greens made for a fantastic dish. The fried pickles (admittedly, I over ordered 😆) had just the right amount of breading to leave a nice crunch. Huge portions and just the nicest service all around. I had no issues finding parking. If ever back in Birmingham, this will be my first stop!
My wife and I shared the blue cheese bomb fries as our appetizer, and they truly were the bomb. My wife had the Monte Cristo sandwich and loved it. I had the shrimp and grits, which were great as well. Especially loved the server, Montana, who was extremely knowledgeable and helpful with the menu.
Our incredibly dining experience goes out to our sever - Shay. It was a crowded Saturday night and she was so attentive and friendly. We just moved to the area but we will absolutely be back. The catfish was the best ive ever had.
10/10 all around Collards- Fantastic Gumbo- Fantastic Burger- you guessed it fantastic For me a guy with crazy anxiety; Mr. Jim, his wife and the staff made sure I was welcomed n taken care of. Found this spot based off a recommendation n I'ma make sure I go and thank them because it was a great experience. I'ma definitely be back and spreading word💯
We love everything about this place. We are always searching for cool dives. And we found one. The quality of the beef is the name of the game here. We asked for our burger to be cooked medium- it was! Their menu selection is unique. This also sets them apart. The server- Alex! She knew everything about the menu and had great recommendations. She spoke to us like she'd known us for years. Service like this is an intricate part of a successful restaurant. I imagine this restaurant upsets a lot of folks because their seating is limited. But, hey... if you can't get in today, suck it up, buttercup and try again tomorrow. It's worth it.
We were on a business road trip from Texas and decided to have dinner at this well-rated establishment. Everything we ate was fantastic and the service was top notch. We ordered a Big Green Pimp burger, a monte cristo, grilled wings, and collard greens. The burger was flavorful and generously sized. The monte cristo sandwich was a solid pick and big enough to share. The greens were sweet and spicy and GOOD! The best of all were the grilled wings: juicy and crispy and 🤯. Go ahead and get 2 orders while you're there. Our server Montana was top tier. He recommended menu items, and even told us to check out the local landmark Vulcan Park. We'll be back next time we're in Birmingham!
A hidden Gem! If you’re looking for a new restaurant to try, this is it. Our family of five went in and ordered an appetizer and five different meals and I think disappointed. Everything was amazing. You and your family should try it too.
The tablitas are an awesome innovation. The fried green tomatoes are a true winner. The grits are a cheesy, savory treat. If Joanie is tending bar you will get dinner and a show. Server Amy is a sweetheart. This place is a must try locals spot. It's not fancy, but it's totally real.
So glad we stopped here for lunch on the way back to ATL. Our server was so nice! All the servers gave off that classic southern kindness that makes you miss home. The place was full of customers so we knew we made the right choice. The whole family loved their meals; the tater tots were cooked perfectly. Definitely recommend making it "bomb" style tots. The gingerbread cookie cocktail was delicious. We can't wait to come back
Service was fantastic. We went for the first time yesterday and had a great experience. I had the Rueben and onion straws-delicious!! Husband had their wings which were cooked to perfection… along with the amazing ranch dressing! Daughter had their grilled chicken salad. When we are back in town, we’ll definitely return.
Mudtown is a cozy sweet restaurant with the most homey atmosphere. You can tell everyone who works there is there because they love their job and their patrons. If you go there more than a couple times you quickly go from patron to part of the family. The whole environment is so welcoming. Their food is absolutely delicious! I have not had one thing I didn’t love but I highly recommend the cahab sandwich as tacos!! I crave these!! If you come during the day you can catch a little glimpse of the cheers like bar. I love all of my mudtown crew!!
I wish I would have found this place sooner! The food is absolutely delicious. We started with the Bomb Fries—ordered the blue cheese on the side since I’m not usually a fan, but wow. It turned out to be more like a blue cheese queso dip, and it paired perfectly with the buffalo sauce on the fries. Totally changed my mind. For the main, we shared the Slabtown Soul plate, and it was plenty for two after the appetizer. Huge shoutout to the staff for bringing it out already split into two bowls—pro move. This dish has everything: creamy grits, Conecuh sausage, Nashville hot chicken, and greens. The chicken was juicy with that spicy-sweet kick, balanced beautifully with the sweetness of the grits and the tang of the greens. And Conecuh sausage? If you know, you know. Overall, an excellent lunch and such a great experience. Can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu!
We heard that Mudtown had the best Ruben in the Birmingham metro area, so we went. My LOVES Rubens. She can confirm, the Ruben is the best in Birmingham. …possibly Alabama. I had the Grouper strips basket. It was awesome too. We had a great server that didn’t let us want for anything. So if you want a really cool, neighborhood bar that has great food, Mudtown is where you need to go.
Just ate here, and it was so great! Customer service was really amazing... I thought customer service died with covid, but apparently you can find it at mudtown eat and drink! Our server heard us struggling to get our toddler to sit in the high chair and before she even said hello, came over with crayons and a kids sheet and started talking to him. He sat right down! She had great recommendations too. The servers seemed to work well together. Helping when others got busy. All the staff stopped to say hello to our little boy, even on a busy night. We had a Jalapeño burger with fries and the shrimp n grits. Everything was delicious. The fries were so good! The portions were excellent, too. I highly recommend this place. We will be back!
Overall a good experience, food was hot and delicious, fries were fresh and all the food was clearly fresh off the stove and ready to be eaten. I ordered the butter bacon burger, and be warned it is buttery as it sounds. In the future I will probably avoid Sunday afternoons a little as it is super busy, but my overall experience was still great. As a note the restaurant appears to be self-seated, but there isn't any sign up front. I was directed to just find a spot to sit, but a sign letting people know that might be useful.
Our waitress is super friendly and made us feel at comfort when it was our 1st time in Alabama and at Mudtown. I hardly eat fried pickles but Mudtown's fried pickles is beyond DELICIOUS!!! Fresh, crunchy and seasoned just right--LOVE IT!! The Shrimp and grits is really good. I went all out and got warm chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream drizzle with chocolate fudge syrup-- spectacular!! Definitely wouldn't mind coming back again!
