As others have said: you will eat the best fried chicken sandwich here that you have ever eaten, and ever will eat. Juicy, crispy, tangy, fresh, and generously portioned. It's apparently brined in sweet tea, to be honest I can't taste that at all but it's good chicken anyway. Also they have "the good ice" and the actual sweet tea hits a faithful Southern-level of sweetness. This place looks just as unassuming as when it was a Fat Sam's, and the fluorescent lighting doesn't do photography of the food any favors, but it's run by a small staff who all do excellent work. They also sell independent artists' work here sometimes, which is neat.

The smoked chicken meal was stellar! The meat was moist and tender. The red and white sauce were complementary and delicious! The cheese grits were smooth and tasty. I was quite pleased and impressed!

Nice people and tasty food, we came to try the white sauce and it was really good. One thing is I think garlic fries would be better if it was like a garlic parm seasoning rather then a wet sauce. It makes the fries soggy.

OUR FAVORITE! We stop here and Dreamland every time we’re in the area. This spot is my husbands favorite for the white sauce that’s on the chicken. It’s truly delicious. The banana pudding is to die for.

They warmly greeted, and then served some of the best smoked and fried food. Brisket, chicken wings, chill, hush puppies, Mac n cheese, banana pudding, pork rinds (skins) and this lemonade with basil and sweet tea chicken

So, I was waiting for a family member to have surgery at UAB Highlands and decided to take the short walk down to Saw's BBQ. (2 blocks away) Just walking up, it had a very established vibe, and the inside of the restaurant felt the same. Upon entering, I was greeted and shown a menu that I posted. I always feel like a great BBQ restaurant can be judged by its Brisket, so I decided to order the Brisket sandwich with a side of fries and a tea. The cost was $21. The sandwich comes with grilled onions, pickles, and a horseradish sauce, and the lady who brought it recommended their BBQ sauce as well. Let just say that I made an excellent choice and will be back to order something else on the menu. But then again, I may just have to order that sandwich again.

If you are looking for actual barbecue and not baked meat, then this is the place for you!!! They have an old school offset smoker in the back and the smells in the parking lot are to die for. The food was truly amazing and the staff was very friendly and made you feel like you were visiting old friends. Everything we had was delicious, but the brisket was on point, the wings were perfect and the Mac n Cheese will make you slap yo mama!!! We stopped by on our way back from Arkansas to South Carolina and are already planning to go back just to eat here!

Very good pulled pork BBQ. Collard Greens side was very good but little pricey, $4 for the 4oz cup. Very rustic "hole-in-the-wall" atmosphere. Owner/manager very nice and greeted everyone. Lunch mate had the Reuben and said it was excellent.

The service is always extremely friendly, and most of the dishes I have eaten here were amazing. It's a little expensive for what it is, but the sweet tea chicken sandwiches with pimento cheese or the Cuban sandwich were both incredible.

Great little hole in the wall a friend said I needed to try. Simple place with an interesting atmosphere in a unique location with far better than average food.

I always heard of and passed by Saw’s for years and decided to go in because they’re about the only ones offering Smoked Brisket. Mannn, they did not disappoint. I got the Brisket Sandwich so I could start small, in case I didn’t like it. It was righteously delicious! Perfect toasted bun a few pickles, a dab of bbq sauce and the white twang sauce gave it a soft almost cheese like consistency combined with a real smoked flavor. I was hooked yall. I’ll be back for more.

Classic downtown Birmingham stop has all sandwich combos you can think of in the bbq world. Chicken wings are scarce right now so no go on those today. But the pulled pork sammies were pretty good. The big boss pork sandwich with pickle, slaw, and pimento cheese with sweet potato fries was pretty good.

Let me start off by saying i love their food. The service is good as well. My issue is the pricing. I order a pork sandwich and Mac and cheese. My co teacher ordered brisket sandwich and it was super fatty. She still complimented that it was good. She also enjoyed the potato salad. Both meal were $21.17. That's rather pricey for lunch. Also when asked about the pricing I was told it's 10% gratuity. I didn't see it posted anywhere that you guys do that, so a sign can solve that. I feel as though why do I have to tip when I'm carrying out. That is part of the job they get paid to do. I loves Saw"s all of them.but $21.17 for sandwich and 1 side item is not cool. I remember this meal with a tea and a small banana pudding used to be $17. Lunch She be more hockey friendly.

Ordered pastrami and fried okra. i’ve had better okra at other locations. I should’ve stuck with sweet tea, fried chicken or the barbecue sandwich. pastrami was just OK.
