Had a Sunday Funday with a couple friends. We decided to spend the afternoon in Danville since it's almost central to where we all live. Great lunch amazing waitress.
Finally, a place in the East Bay to enjoy vegetarian/vegan sushi. It was such a delight trying the variety of options - from noodles, sushi, to tofu. We tried the broccoli Gomae, agedashi tofu, vegetarian roll (without rice), ume & mint roll, nude caterpillar roll, and the banana pudding. There was nothing that I regret getting. The ambience was great for a casual weekday night but I can also see it being a great place to meet friends or have soju and sake on a weekend night. The service was exceptional - our waiter made great effort to make us chuckle and even convinced us to get a dessert! I'll be back here again and again and again!
Been many times when this was Blue Ginko. Now it's Blue Sakana...still good sushi. Had the Sashimi Salad. The presentation was awesome and the fish was very tasty. The rolls were definitely fish heavy (not over loaded with rice). Fried tofu (lightly fried in a ponzu-type sauce) and the seaweed salad are great starters. The food prices are up there and the drinks are even more, however the taste and overall experience make a good case for putting this place on the rotation.
Everything was wonderful!! The meal was so delicious and filling, the restaurant was beautiful, and the staff was so warm and friendly! 10/10 will be going back
Excellent Japanese restaurant with in door and outdoor dining (with a water view).
Great food and awesome service! I loved their minor twist on the California Maki.
Delicious food. Excellent service. Very nice place. A perfect place for family and friends to gather.

Been going here for the last 4 years. Every time has been excellent in every way. The food and service are amazing. Food is served quickly and always perfect. The atmosphere is very pleasant. Music is just the right volume. Very clean and inviting, including the restrooms. The staff are very kind, welcoming and they make sure your needs are met. Special occasions are always treated with respect and honor. Definitely recommend Blue Sakana. — By the Happy Duo: Gramma V and Granddaughter B
i've been coming here for years long before it switched ownership and names, but I can say that the blue sakana version is the best version! Kyle at the bar might be the best server I've ever had. The atmosphere is amazing and the food is perfection...
Make sure to say Hi to Kyle, Nick, and or Jessica, as well as all of the other amazing staff. Both the inside and outside atmosphere is great, traditional mixed with modern, mixed with Blackhawk Plazas wonderful open space. And yes, you can catch a game here, at either the outside or inside bar. Great happy hour menu as well! Some often overlooked menu items that are amazing are the artichoke appetizer and the crab-stuffed mushroom appetizer. Oh, and if you're like me, get the Tai nigiri. Enjoy!

This place is by far the BEST SUSHI in the Easy Bay and by far some of the best sushi dishes we have ever had. If you love Slanted Door, Uzumo, or Nobu…. You will LOVE this place. We had the sashimi platter, fresh and beautifully presented. The scallop bites, WOW. There was this very slight garlic taste, and it was perfection. Our 9 year old got the salmon teriyaki, and even that was WOW. We also had the salmon melt roll, which is one of their most popular, and loved it, since we are more fresh sushi people so we prefer the sushi bites and rolls. Rice tuna bites AWESOME! The Hawkeye was a lovely mix of sushi and scallop, so fresh and just melts in your mouth. We drove 30 minutes here and WILL BE COMING BACK!!! This place is off the charts delicious. We also enjoyed the pinot and finished dinner with buckwheat tea and green tea crème brûlée. Yum.
Last Friday evening our party of 8 celebrated a warm and jubilant birthday, early Father’s Day party. From our arrival to our leaving the entire staff greeted us like family. All of our appetizers, Sushi-Rolls, were delicious! We all loved our Entrees-our seafood was expertly prepared! Blue Sakana is “Our Special Place”…
Great place for sushi and Japanese appetizers. Full bar. Amazing outdoor seating perfect for an sunny afternoon. The wine selection is excellent as well. Service was friend and not rushed. The ducks swimming in the pond adds to the experience.
Decent value, great atmosphere and wonderful service. Definitely worth returning.
I had a pleasure time here with my son.we enjoyed the fresh sushi 🍣. Nice staff, but service was really slow even was not really busy.they served my drink late.

My recent visit to Blue Sakana presented a mix of highs and areas for improvement. The outdoor courtyard truly stood out, offering a beautifully landscaped and pleasant ambiance that set a wonderful initial tone. 🌳🌴 However, the dining experience itself felt a bit disconnected. The ordering process was unfortunately out of sync, with our entrees arriving before our appetizers and the server didn't check in with us, or let us know. This disrupted the natural flow of the meal and made us feel rushed to eat everything, rather than allowing for a relaxed time. We also noticed a couple seated about 10 minutes after us received both their appetizers and entrées before we did. For appetizers, the parfait (pictured) offered good flavors, but the unexpected inclusion of crispy rice at the bottom felt somewhat an awkward texture flow. The rice actually went better with the entree. The Miso Cod (pictured) was the highlight of the meal with delicious and well-executed flavors. A red pickled item served alongside was overwhelmingly salty, detracting from the dish's otherwise excellent balance. The sushi roll (pctured) we ordered was decent but nothing spectacular and didn't leave a lasting impression. Finally, while the restaurant's courtyard had great charm, the rundown condition of the surrounding shopping center and parking lot felt quite unpleasant. It truly looked like a rundown shopping center parking lot. Overall, Blue Sakana has some enjoyable aspects, particularly its beautiful outdoor setting and the flavorful Miso Cod. However, more attention to service flow and refining certain dish components would create a more cohesive and exceptional dining experience. For those seeking similar cuisine, I would more highly recommend Aozora in Danville as well as Bamboo Sushi in Bishop Ranch.

Waited 20 minutes before we got a server. And just super overpriced. 50$ for the special (price isn't listed on the menu?) Of 6 pieces of fish. We also ordered the 30$ special which had the same fish but tasted better. The nice floor manager gave us some ice cream though. He was a sweetheart and it broke my heart seeing him have to manage such incompetent staff

1. Unprofessional crew! 2. They are lying about the time of order to be picked up! 3. Interrupting me while I'm talking! 4. Rude crew! 5. They intentionally make me wait for 45 minutes standing in front of the door! 6. No place for the person to sit while waiting for the orders to be made!

I’m changing my previous review. This place has changed their rolls to the point where they are teeny tiny. I imagine it’s inflation, but I just picked up my food and they are laughably small. Time to start making my own at home. This is ridiculous.
I ordered two California rolls for take out. The price came out over $20 plus tax and tip. When I opened the food there were six pieces in one container and five in the other. The rice was stale and the avocado was brown. I literally paid over three dollars for one tiny piece of sushi. This was the worst sushi place I have ever been to.
We came around 2:30 pm when the place closes at 3. The waiter came out chewing her food. Told us they are closed. There were people in there eating.
