Went to Terroir tonight to celebrate my birthday. Ordered the tartare for the app and the sablefish for the main. I've never had tartare, so I don't know how their's compares. It was good, but maybe tartare isn't my thing. Reminds me of sushi with the texture. The sablefish dish was great. It's a light, flaky, buttery, fish. Overall it was a great meal. Food came out quick and the service was good. If I could give it my exact rating it would be a 4.7 to 4.8. The Avery is the measuring stick.
The sablefish was wonderfully done. The steak frites was on the salty side, we think it was the sauce it was served in, flavour was there and the steak was very tender. We had a great night over all!
Everything down to the baseboards are cool about this place. The food: order the sablefish. The world would be a better place if everyone ate this dish
Had a wonderful experience for dinner. The restaurant's decor is quirky and interesting. We loved the mismatched silverware. Beers were reasonably priced and delicious. They don't serve full pints, but instead 12 ounce pours. I prefer the smaller pours and because the drinks are inexpensive you can try a few. The service was fantastic. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Food was fantastic, we started with the fried olives, then shared the steak and mushroom risotto. Both were amazing. We had the apple cake for desert and that was delicious as well. Terroir is a gem in Boise and should be on your list of restaurants to visit.
My husband and I went here for dinner this week, and we were very very pleased. Sam, the bartender, is fantastic and each dish we tried was incredible. We started with the Smoked Mushroom Mousse and Radishes & Butter, unique but very good. I ordered the Wild Caught Sablefish and I would have licked my bowl if it was socially acceptable. My husband ordered the Steak Frites, it was the softest piece of steak I’ve ever eaten. So good. We got the Butterscotch Pudding and Lemon Glazed Cornbread for dessert, top notch. It’s a great cozy spot with delicious food and fantastic staff.
A French treat in Boises downtown! Terroir serves amazing locally sourced food. There are a variety of food options, so there is definitely something for everyone. The staff was friendly and helpful, making us feel like the regulars we soon will become. One of the owners, Remi, visited the table and was friendly, kind, and welcoming. Although he is fluent in French, he added to the experience encouraging me to share the little french I know. Oui-oui! Yep, that's it... haha! Defiently a good sport! The entire atmosphere feels like a little place of reprieve for lovers of France. The patio is a great place to eat or have a glass of wine! While the inside is warm with a classic charm. Can't wait to go again! *There is parking attached to the main building, which makes it more convenient to drop by!
This was a purely serendipitous find as I strolled downtown looking for an interesting dinner experience in Boise. From bartender/my server Julia, to one of two establishment proprietors, Remi, I was very well attended to and found Remi’s wine menu selections unique, terroir driven and overall quite interesting. The food blew me away too. I kept it simple with their Roasted Beet Salad and their Mushroom Risotto as a main. The rest of the menu has me for sure coming back to try more. But for tonight, the Beet salad was a wonderful combo of roasted chunks of red beet, mixed with frisée in a lovely vinaigrette and accompanied with curry dusted cashews all on a creamy bed of seasoned labneh. Lots of great flavors. Paired with that was a great local mushroom risotto that constituted perfect comfort food paired with a glass of beautiful Italian red wine. And the bistro ambiance left me feeling as if I had passed through a worm hole into some warm cozy corner of a Paris. Definitely a good new thing making Boise a great place to experience.
Every flavor combination was perfect. The beef tartare worked perfectly as an entree and the flavors were incredible. Then the espresso and dessert were an exceptional ending
This whole evening was a delightful culinary experience. Terroir's cozy ambiance and attentive service set the stage for an evening of gastronomic indulgence. The menu focuses on locally sourced ingredients, offers an array of dishes that showcase the season with creativity and expertise. The harmonious blend of food & wine elevated the dining experience. From the apps to the desserts, every bite was excellent and left us eager to return! If you're looking for a memorable dining experience that celebrates seasonal, local cuisine, visit Terroir!
One of the best meals I have had in years! Everything was flavorful and perfectly prepared. Excellent wine selections. Will be back!
We enjoyed everything about our dinner at Terroir. We were familiar with the food truck (at Telaya) and weren't at all disappointed with the new bistro. The service was phenomenal from the start and the atmosphere is cozy and mature but still fairly casual. We enjoyed everything we ordered, but I think the standouts for me were the fried olives, caesar salad, and grilled lamb. Definitely will be back to try some of the other appetizers and drink more wine!
One of the best meals I’ve had in Boise! Our table of four ordered several appetizers, steak frites, lamb, and fried chicken. All stellar, we didn’t leave a crumb! We also had all three desserts which were just as divine, especially the chocolate crème. I adore French cuisine and Terroir Bistro delivered. Wait staff was kind and attentive. I can’t wait to come back!
Great Morel Tagliatelle and Daikon radish cake. Beautiful restaurant (only the bathroom in the shopping center ruins it a little). Overall a great place for a fine dinner.
Incredible food, incredible service, incredible atmosphere. We tried the leeks, salmon & steak frites. All of the dishes were elegant and perfectly salted- a true French talent. The flavors were developed and hearty. Will come back & absolutely recommend Terroir.
I was excited to try out Terrior tonight and I wasnt disappointed. The sable fish = delicious. The sturgeon appetizer = devine. My friend and I split a lovely rose and enjoyed the flavors of our meal. The icing on the cake was the cornbread dessert. Our waitstaff was attentive and the food delicious. A wonderful addition to the Boise food scene.
I took my family here. The food was amazing! We loved the Smoked Sturgeon, very unique! We ordered the Smoked Sablefish and the Steak Frites. The portions were just right and everything was delicious. Several of their dishes were gluten free. Thanks, Remi, we will definitely be back!
So special! Tucked away in downtown Boise, you know ita special when you walk in the door. Warmth in the interior with the best wine list, and a thoughtful ever changing menu. Not your ordinary fare and reasonabky priced. Food is thoughtfully prepared and it shows.
We enjoyed all our plates and the very comfortably mature but casual vibe. Steak tartare was unexpectedly flavorful and refreshing on a hot summer evening. Lovely! So excited for this new Boise go- to hang out.
Excellent service and atmosphere. We sat at a comfortable outside table. It was a little chilly and the staff brought out a gas heater for us. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees - all exceeded expectations in both taste and presentation. Would recommend for those looking for a unique menu and tasteful dining experience.
Had a nice dinner here with lentil salad, sablefish and brown butter cake. Delicious food, excellent service. Wine and beer only, but plenty of bars nearby if you want a cocktail beforehand
We LOVED our meal here. The daikon radish cake appetizer was incredible. All of the food we had was great, and the service was outstanding. Highly recommend for a nice dinner in Boise!
This restaurant is an absolute delight! As a foodie from Portland, this place hit all the marks. The service was warm and friendly, with just the right touch. The atmosphere was posh but approachable, just a little funky in a very cool way. The menu was nicely compact with good portion sizes. I had their steak tartar and it was absolutely stellar! I'll be thinking about those fried olives all the way back to Portland.
My wife and I have traveled the world. Lived abroad for 10 years. We consider ourselves gastronomes and really appreciate good food. The line caught local sablefish dish at this bistro was to DIE for! We both ordered it and could not believe how amazing it was. The patio was great, service was superb, what an unexpected surprise in downtown Boise. We would make this our last meal in a heartbeat.
Never disappointed with a visit to Terroir! The wine is phenomenal, the food is even better. Highly recommend. Wonderfully cooked sablefish, try the steak tartare, and save room for dessert!
Terroir Bistro is an absolute treasure in Boise! The menu is creative and seasonal, highlighting the best local ingredients with flavors that are both bold and perfectly balanced. Every dish feels like a work of art—beautifully plated and even better tasting. The service is impeccable: warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited about the food they serve. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy, making it perfect for a romantic night out or a special occasion. If you’re a true food lover looking for a memorable dining experience, Terroir Bistro is a must-visit!
We stopped in later just before the kitchen closed and the staff was super accommodating. The food was fantastic. We crushed the steak tartare and their homemade pasta dish was truly outstanding. It was probably the best bowl of pasta I’ve had in years. Will definitely be back and I’m telling all my friends to try Terroir as well.
The lamb chops were the best I have ever had. Served over a very tasty (and different) bed of vegetables. My wife had the morel mushroom pasta (a seasonal special), and it was wonderful. No leftovers from our dinner!!! Truly unique were the fried castelvetrano olives. My wife never eats olives, but these were an exception. I would go back just for this dish!! Enough to serve 3 or 4 as an appetizer. Interesting wine list with reasonable prices and some entry level values. Our new favorite dinner spot in Boise!!
What a lovely little restaurant in the middle of Boise! Even though it’s smallish our party of 11 felt comfortable, and well served. Starting with the fried olives, sampling all the entrees, and desserts, everyone loved it. The food is exceptional, chef Nate is top-line. Worth driving into downtown to experience this fine restaurant.
We were a large party and shared a lot of the meals. I appreciate the menu is divided by size as some of us wanted more food and others less - made it easy. The fish was a big hit, but everyone liked everything whether they ordered it or just sampled. The company was torn between the desserts we tried: they were all exceptional.
This might be our new fav restaurant in Boise! The steak frites are a must order, and everything else is consistently yummy as well. We just tried the food truck they have at Telaya and that was really good too!
Absolutely fantastic experience. Went with our two kids, 6 and 8, and our server had the perfect balance of tending to their bs demands and questions while giving us excellent food and drink recommendations (don’t judge us, we’re still teaching etiquette) 😅🙌🫶 We had the fried olives, short ribs, sablefish, and fried chicken. Detail was given to each dish and ingredient - the dishes had a classic but elevated feel. The potato salad that came with the fried chicken had a unique vinegary but creamy dressing. The sauce on the short ribs had a tang of red curry and fresh thai basil garnish. The fish was in a light but deeply flavorful broth. The outdoor patio area was delightful. All in all it was a 10/10.
Absolute perfection. What a gem. I’ve lived here 10 years now & this is by far the best restaurant Boise has had in this time frame. Finally!!! The food was unique but nostalgic for me as a person raised in Europe. I loved the decor, I loved our server, the atmosphere and the overall vibe. Not pretentious, comforting food, yet classy food. I can’t wait to come back 100 more times to try the changing menu. As all good restaurants should be, flexing with what is in season. 100/10. So impressed.
We had an amazing dinner at Terroir. This was our first time dining there and we were thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere is spot on and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. We had the Welsh Rarebit and Duck Pastrami as appetizers and they were both delicious, the duck pastrami especially. For our main dishes we had the fried chicken and beef bourguignon. The fried chicken was one of the better dishes we’ve had in some time- absolutely delicious. We really appreciated the use of flavor and textures in the dishes. We will definitely be back.
Boise finally has a fabulous and authentic French bistro!!! The food is wonderful. In our foursome, we had the lamb tagine, pork tagliatelle pasta, mushroom risotto, French salad, and pate. All outstanding. Great wine options. Excellent service. It’s cozy, casual, and has the feel of walking off of the street into a corner bistro in a small town in France. Loved it! Will go back to try everything.
Absolutely loved our evening at Terroir! My work team met for a celebratory dinner after a long week, and we were blown away by the fabulous food, fun location, relaxing atmosphere, and did I say fabulous food?! Seriously, do yourself a favor and order EVERYTHING because every morsel was so delicious. This will be a new favorite for a night out!
The delicata squash small plate was beyond phenomenal. Amazing wine. Best people
Highly recommend. Terroir has been added to our list of regular date night restaurants. All food from appetizers to desserts were delicious. Don’t sleep on Terroir Bistro!
I can usually find at least one thing that isn't up to par at any restaurant. Except this one. The food was phenomenal. The service impeccable. The atmosphere was perfect. Because the menu is seasonal, I cannot recommend anything specifically; however, Terroir is definitely worth a visit. We will be back again and again.
They nail the French bistro style! Food was amazing staff was amazing atmosphere was amazing! 10 out of 10 recommended! I brought my gluten free friend and they were amazed that almost the whole menu was available to them!
Excellent all around. Service was warm, efficient and offered great recommendations. We had the steak frites and fried chicken. Chicken was nicely seasoned and had a terrific coating - not oily at all. I did not appreciate the spin on potato salad that came with the chicken but that is my palate not the execution. The wine list is well curated (love that they have producers like Arnot Roberts) and kudos for the temperature control - even wines by the glass. For dessert we had the curry carrot cake and the butterscotch pudding. Both were spectacular. The restrained butterscotch flavor, consistency and temperature of the pudding is testament to the skills of this kitchen. I am not sure the "curry" part of the carrot cake was an enhancer for me but the size, icing, and cake texture were amazing. Few kitchens in the Boise area can execute like this.... Thank you for the attention to detail.
Absolutely amazing. Incredible service and even better food! The server we had, Hannah, was super helpful and friendly. The French onion soup was definitely my favorite- I'd have to say it was the best I've ever had! The area was a tad bit cramped but I think if you like cozy, intimate locations, it'd be perfect for you. Once again, thanks Hannah and to all the people who made our visit pleasant and enjoyable!
Yummy fried olives (a treat I’ve never experienced before). The Sablefish had a yummy miso and ginger glaze Two of us got the tri-tip risotto that was raved about. Medium rare steak with Truffle Fries (crispy salty shoe string delights that played off the base gravy and peppercorn on the steak.) Fresh bread and butter to start with our local IPA and wines. Strawberry rhubarb sodas for the kids. The setting was chill and enjoyable. Candles and string lights helped our families relax and enjoy the night. We finished off with some pistachio cake, butterscotch crème, and dark chocolate for dessert. We’ll be back for sure. You can’t go wrong here at Terroir. Felt like being back in Europe with an American casual hospitality that relaxed and enveloped us.
If I could give this place 10 stars I would! My daughter has been wanting to try the Terroir Bistro since we fell in love with their food at the Boise Farmers Market. We finally went last night. I woke up today already looking forward to going back! Thank you to the Terroir staff and owners for caring about your place! Our waiter was so good! We appreciated his hospitality, attentiveness, it not over intrusive. Superb, welcoming, and made us want to return. We ordered and shared EVERYTHING on the food menu! There are many GF options! My family and I all had different rankings of what we liked best, but Everything was top notch! My personal favorites were: Ouefs (and I don't really care for eggs) Fried olives Cheese plate had a light Blue cheese that was Mmmm! Delicatta squash salad Country pate! Steak Tartar - just try it! Daikon Radish Cake Lentil salad Mushroom risotto Beef paprikas Lamb Mousaka Steak Frites TRULY ENJOYED IT ALL!
Exceptional experience! The Cheese plate starter and lentil salad, perfect. The lentil salad, so delicious. The lamb moussaka and beef bourguignon were so tender and full of flavor. Both incredible entrees, but something about the lamb dish stuck out to me, a real special dish. We were too full for dessert but we’re already planning to come back next week and will save room. Thanks to Max for helping us select wine and taking great care of us!
All the positive reviews are warranted. What a special place that has quickly become "home" for me. Each dish is so thoughtful and intentional, with outstanding service to boot. Atmosphere is cozy and intimate; perfect for a solo experience or with loved ones. Sometimes I daydream about the mushroom risotto and the lamb. I want to try everything, and I plan on it! Thank you for your outstanding contributions to our community. Places like TERROIR make feel proud to live in Boise.
I have dined here many times with my son (it’s one of his favorites) and we always enjoy our dining experience. I love the lamb moussaka. Get there early because it does sell out. We especially enjoy dining al fresco during the warmer months.
Cozy small restaurant withots of natural light. Service is excellent and the menu is heavily inspired by French classics.
Service was excellent, with intimate atmosphere. Fried olives, radish cake, missing dirt salad were excellent. Steak tartare was ok, but meat overpowered by lemon and mustard. Steak frites was too heavy on salt, and overpriced for quality. Fries with tartare and frites were soggy and oversalted. Lamb was ok, but not exceptional. Overall a nice experience, but not exceptional.
Trout was fresh, well prepared, ample portion, generous amount of green beans, potatoes & mushrooms; overall, though, too salty. Arrived warm, not hot. My husband enjoyed steak frites, though $52.00 is pricey. Would have appreciated the server asking if we would have liked bread & butter, as we were informed after dinner that “it’s always available.” Lastly, I was disappointed when my $14.00 flute of champagne arrived 2/3 full. Most restaurants and bars fill a flute to nearly the top.
Pricey, not enough seating. Ineresting place, ok food and service.
