The most incredible catfish I’ve ever had in my life. The service was great and fast, the options were plentiful, but the catfish was genuinely amazing. Wishing we were local so I could eat it everyday. Came here for our valentines date and it did not disappoint.
Always a good sign when you see the locals coming in. Our waitress was friendly and suggested the spicy chicken sandwich and it was the perfect kind of spice we like. The Reuben was thick as well as the French dip. Steak fires worth the extra charge. Oh and the batter on the cheese sticks. Yes please! After a long day getting our granddaughter ready for college this was what we needed. Can’t wait to come back
Great locals pub & grub establishment. I've enjoyed several previous visits. The staff is terrific. Very friendly and attentive. Bartender Sarah is particularly adept and delightful, and with a great sense of humor, too. The food is fresh and put together with great attention and care. They bake deserts and more in house that look beautiful. I was really tempted by the carrot cake cupcakes, but too full to eat one this trip. Do yourself a favor if nearby and hungry or thirsty. Lots of good choices here.
1st time visit. There were 4 adults and 2 children. One in high chair. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and although a short wait, we got a nice table near the front of the restaurant. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. My wife and I split a salmon (blackened) croissant sandwich with curly fries. It was ample food as we had eaten about 3½ hours earlier and weren't starving. Overall, we were pleased and thought the pricing was good. We will be back in the future. I'd recommend.
Highly recommend this place. We sat at the bar, Elle and the other bar tender were great. Drinks were well made. Food was excellent. We had steak and taters. We will be going back
Random find on Yelp and Google. Excellent mean with a ton of food on the plate. First off — some of the best mashed potatoes and the mac n cheese was next level. Fantastic! I went with meatloaf. Two large slices that are served with parm crusted and parm flakes on top. Excellent! My only suggestion, maybe add some gravy to top it off. My wife ordered the sirloin steak dinner. She ordered rare and they knocked it out of the park. Excellent. The onion rings are very good, I almost ordered a side of them. Speaking of appz, the Okra Fries are unique and actually pretty darn good. The French Onion Soup was okay, about average. Served a little cold and not very much flavor, oh well, win some lose some…….
Good food for lunch. We had the Shrimp Basket , French Onion soup, and half reuben sandwich. Shrimp and onion soup were great. Ruben was not very hot and a little bland.
Pepper's has been one of my favorite spots since I was a kid, and it’s clear why everyone loves it. The vibe is super welcoming, and the food is always amazing. If you’re in Boone, you’ve got to check it out! I had the Cajun Chicken Pasta, and wow—it was so good! Perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. They also had an awesome wine selection that paired great with my meal. The staff was super friendly and made the whole experience even better.
First time customer. I ordered the French Onion Soup and a half French Dip with chips. The soup was the ABSOLUTE BEST I've ever had. I love that you provided small scissors to help cut the melted cheese, BRILLIANT idea. The french dip was good (would be better if you used french bread instead of hoagie roll ;-) Highly recommend.
Great place to hang out, Sarah and Cameron are the best on the bar, great mixed drinks like the Negroni or old fashioned, best service, delicious food,my favorite burgers 🍔 in town, overall pleased every time, Highly recomended.
French onion soup was chef’s kiss! They even included a little pair of scissors to tackle the cheese pull! Their service was excellent as the staff was so friendly and warm and went out of their way to greet us. Onion rings were my favorite kind. Not drenched in batter but rather the flaky crispy crumbly kind where the onion can shine thru!
The food and service were excellent. When we first arrived (1:00 on a Sunday) we were told it would be a 25 minute wait but it was closer to 5 minutes. Our waitress Avery was attentive when needed and didn't rush us at all. We had the French Dip and the Pepper's Sub. Both came out warm and we're flavorful. I used to come here as a kid with my parents on our annual trip to get a Christmas tree. It is nice to see it is still the same, although the prices have increased a little bit.
Shout out to Victoria! Even though they clearly were still recovering from a busy time, and Victoria was double-seated, she was working her butt off to get it all done! The buttermilk fried chicken was juicy and tender. And the catfish basket was delicious. Small, but distinguished selection of scotch!
We were looking for a sweet treat while visiting in Boone and a local told us to go to Pepper’s. WOW! I am soooooo glad we did! Their cheesecakes are AMAZING!!!!!!! We got 3 desserts to try! Carrot Cake 7/10 Chocolate Cheesecake 8/10 Pepper’s Mud Pie 10/10 After eating the Pepper’s Mud Pie, we wished we would have gotten 3 of them!
First time in Boone, saw the good reviews had to come. We were sat immediately, was told about the daily special and had a pitcher of draft within minutes. Was recommended the fried chicken club, since I couldn't make a choice. Wow, was not let down. Wife and I left full and money still in our pocket. Good food, good service, good prices, warm friendly atmosphere. What else can you ask for... Btw best onion rings in a very very long time!
Great experience for me. I love how they serve the French Onion soup with little scissors. Brilliant idea! And their take on it with housemade croutons and mozzarella was delicious! Their spinach salad with Goat cheese and pecans and strawberries was super tasty (if you get salmon be sure to specifically ask for your preferred cooking temp). I could only eat 1/2 the salad, so it'd be a great choice to share with someone. Oh, and if you're a fan of carrot cake (sorry, forgot to get a pic of that), you won't be disappointed. The $3 cupcake (rather than a slice) was more than enough for a sweet treat later on in the day. The couple sitting across from me ordered onion rings and they looked amazing - the big crunchy, Vidalia type ones. Service and hostess team were super friendly as well.
Oh my gosh!!!!!!! The spinach artichoke dip is so ridiculously good! The entrees were amazing as well!
Loved it. Great beers and fantastic food at great prices. Bartenders were great in helping with beer and food choices. Had sirloin in pesto sauce with mashed potatoes...for $10.99...what !!!! Yes highly recommended A+++
The spinach artichoke dip, onion soup, shrimp and grits and amazing cocktails are delicious. The kids enjoyed the food and so did the grown ups.
Place was yummy and service was hospitable! Chicken club was delicious but the onion rings were insanely amazing!! The curly fries are also so so good. There’s a salad bar you can choose to eat. But it’s worth noting that main entrees aren’t available until dinner time (5 pm).
Good food. Reasonably priced for the area. Waitress was pleasant. There's plenty of parking, but don't be surprised if there's a wait. This place can get packed! Really enjoyed the catfish sandwich and fried mushrooms. Would go again.
Great value for money! The food was amazing and the portions are filling. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The air filter in the bathroom had about an inch of dust and the “WEAR YOUR MASK” billboards were totally over the top and there were even more mask protocol placards at each table! (I think we get it and it felt as though we were all being scolded like children). I will definitely go again. I may wait until we are out of this phase though.
Great service and food at a local tradition. Our server even brought us a “Puppers” menu for Ginger. She had the grilled chicken.
Traveling with family and trying to find someplace where there's something for a bunch of picky eaters isn't easy. But we found something for everyone here, even a bowl of pasta for the super picky eater in our group. Everything tasted good. Loved the vegetable soup. We've added this place to our approved list of restaurants next time we're in town.
Super good food and very nice people! The PBLT, Spicy Chicken, Blackened Mahi, all amazing! The prices are pretty reasonable especially for food this good!
We’ve been going to Peppers for decades. We had our first date there many, many years ago. We went this past week and I can say the food and the service was outstanding. We loved the service we received and the food was delicious.
Pepper's is one of my favorite restaurants in Boone. It has a dining room on one side and a bar on the other, offering two different atmospheres. This family-friendly restaurant offers a wide variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, and mains. My personal favorite is the reuben sandwich and the potato salad (it's the southern kind with sweet relish and mustard!). It might be good to call ahead to see if there is a wait as it can get pretty busy during the lunch hour and on the weekends. I've eaten here with everyone from infants to elderly and everyone can find something to eat. The staff has always been wonderful and the space has a warm, homey vibe. If you're visiting from out of town, I highly recommend you stop in to get a taste of the High Country! Attention dog lovers: Pepper's also has a dog-friendly patio and a dedicated puppers menu! They also have happy hour everyday with weekly specials.
My girlfriend and I had a fantastic Valentine’s Day dinner at Pepper’s. The food was great and came out extremely fast. The cocktails were delicious and the service was excellent. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating! We will definitely be going back!
We were in town for a mini holiday vacation and stopped in at the advice of a coworker. Family and I loved the food. Wife and I had soup/sanwich, kids wings and chicken fingers. The french onion soup is out of this world and the best I've had. More cheese that they give you a pair of scissors to cut it with. Portions were large. Staff is very friendly and restaurant has some warm, home vibes to it. Thank you for a great meal and we will come see you again on our next trip to Boone. Happy New Year!
When I went to App State (ASU in our day) in the mid '80's and early '90's Pepper's was my favorite restaurant. If memory serves, both Pepper's were open at the same time while I was there. I hadn't been to Boone in many, many years and went for my birthday just to eat at Pepper's and sight-seeing. Virtually the same menu after all these years. While in college I almost always got the Terryaki Chicken Dip Supreme or the Jean Lawson Special, this time I opted for the Spicy Chicken Sandwich with steak fries and it was great. The wife got the Mahi sandwich and really liked it. Our other guest got the classic burger and loved it. We all shared a piece of mud pie for dessert. Everything was delicious, just like old times. Boone has changed a lot but the food at Pepper's is still fantastic.
Took my sister and brother in law there to celebrate my sister's birthday. Always get a Jean Lawson and it was so good. The waitress brought my sister a carrot cake cupcake for her birthday. We shared it and it was so good.
Peppers is a fav whether dining in or to go. I would list a favorite, though I don't believe I could pick just one. It's not a sub shop, so prices are a little more, though not outrageous by any means. It's good to see a local make good. Plenty of parking. Easy access for all.
! Food was delicious ! Rose’ penne was the best , I ordered spinach artichoke dip , and okra fries they were good . I’m a vegetarian , i don’t eat any kind of meat , Special mention , Our server , Wren , was so nice and sweet , i had so many questions regarding good options , she answered to all my questions and was very polite and kind and charming . Will definely recommend this place !
We had the French dip sandwiches, soup, fries and fried mushrooms. Sandwiches were okay. Au jus was very bland. The curly fries were okay. The fried mushrooms were really good and came with a mustard dipping sauce. I ordered the soup of the day (clam chowder) but wasn’t told until later that they were out of it. I got the vegetable and it was very good. They had a pretty decent craft beer selection. We sampled a couple and ordered one each and were both pleased with our selection. There were 2 staff members behind the bar. A male and a female. The male was much more helpful and friendly. The female was okay but she was talking poorly of customers very loudly the whole time we were there. She had two paintbrushes in her hair. Overall the atmosphere was really chill. We were served quickly and would go back if we were in the area but it would be nice to hear less negative and critical conversation from the staff about the customers. Food service is hard but it spoils the atmosphere for the paying customers.
Pepper's is a great restaurant, however, I was a little disappointed today. My wife and I dropped in for lunch today and ordered our food. We were going with lighter options, so I chose potato skins. They are between $8 and $9. When I received my order, I was a little taken back. I received four halves that were very sad. I would steer away from them from a bang for your buck stand point. The plate in the picture is a 6 inch plate.
The establishment is very comfortable and clean, and the staff is friendly. Other than the okra fries (like eating pinestraw), the food was really good, especially the French Onion soup, which was served with scissors to “cut the cheese”, the chicken wrap, and carrot cake.
Visiting the Blowing Rock and Boone NC areas and googled restaurants, it was a Monday and a good number of places were closed. Read reviews and checked out the online menu and decided to give this place a try. Very glad we did! Started with a Chocolate Mogul ( a wonderful drink from the bar on a cold evening) The menu has quite a variety of choices. I got a spinach salad with blackened salmon. It was outstanding….and huge….enough for supper and also lunch the next day, lol. My husband loved his meatloaf and we both enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip appetizer. The waitstaff were friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. We highly recommend Peppers, it was actually the best restaurant we ate at in the area during our visit.
A Boone legacy! (To call it an institution just seems like something my father would say.) Great food and drink. They're hyper busy during the Leaf Season and even moreso now given COVID staffing constraints so make a reservation if you can. If you can't, call ahead. The outdoor seating in the fall is fantastic. The menu is substantial. Burgers are a great choice, as are salads and wraps. Some of the better menu choices are only available for dinner hours but everything this great and tasty at any hour. The catfish is really good. The curly fries are hard to put down Even after you're full. The bar has a great selection of everything. The onion rings are terrific. If you're a Blue Ridge EMC customer you can get a discount. Just show them your card.
The French onion soup was world class. Other than that, the food was middling to average. Caesar was decent. Burger was plain, fries bland. I would say it's worth going here just for the French onion soup.
Said a table for 1 would be a 15 minute wait. Waited almost 45 minutes. Once seated, about a 3 minute wait for drink order, but was out of the ingredients to make the drink I wanted from the menu, so I settled for a glass of wine. It took almost 5 minutes to get it...which was fine. Waited another 15 minutes for waitress to take my order. (They were not overly busy. Only 3 tables and 2 couples at the bar. However, 1 waitress and 1 bartender.) After I ordered, it took over 30 minutes to get my salad and another 45 minutes for my entree. I was there for just over 3 hours total. Wine was great the salad was ok (several brown spots that I had to pick out of the greens). The shrimp and grits are good and I would order it again, but I have had better. I'm giving them a pass for the wait time due to the fact they are probably understaffed in the kitchen.
Everything about the meal was perfectly fine, nothing about the meal stood out, and nothing was bad. We had the PBLT and a chicken wrap, and it was a totally sufficient dinner. The wait staff was great. If you’re looking for an easy dinner - Pepper’s is a good option.
For positives, we ordered three meals total for take out. My coworkers salad was quite good, and my other coworkers chicken tenders were okay. The curly fries were delicious! However, I ordered a burger with a beef patty, and somehow got a chicken sandwich instead. I double checked the receipt, and it said beef patty, so I’m not sure how they it got confused. Normally I am not a picky eater, and would have ate the chicken, except the chicken tasted… rubbery? And it was way over spiced. My coworkers also tried it and also didn’t like it. From talking to locals, it sounded like they switched management. Things have gone up in price significantly in the past few years, and sides that used to be free now cost extra. Overall, some of the food was okay, but I do not think I would return to eat again.
I ordered the classic burger. It was almost totally black on the outside and tasted unpleasantly like char. The curly fries were tasty. The service was good and the food did not take long to come out. There was no wait to be seated.
I’ve had better days there. Today not one of them. The table was dirty , the meatloaf dry. When I told the manager very nicely, she said”well you don’t have to come here. Not nice. But this is the first time it happened but the last time we dine there. It’s gone down.
Order the French onion soup, it was good but salty. Had the fried mushrooms as an appetizer. Tasteless. Meatloaf, texture of alpo. $20- side of coleslaw was slaw but no mayo or vinegar, mashed potatoes were sour and tasted rotten Fried chicken dinner - 1/2 a breast for $20. Mac and cheese is tasteless. Cocktails are normally $12-14. I don't recommend.
This review is now edited. First visit everything was amazing, and our waitress gave great recommendations, we had incredible service and I was looking forward to coming back. When I came back with seven more friends, the service was awful. Our waitress never came to our table. Our drink drinks sat empty on the table and our waitress was nowhere in sight. Our appetizer plates as well as drinks set empty for about 15 minutes until we went to the front of the restaurant to find out what was going on only to find our waitress and the manager chatting it up. I might give it one more chance, but I honestly doubt it.
I had high hopes going into this restaurant. It came highly recommended from a car salesman across the street. They really talked up the onion rings so when I got there it was the first thing I ordered. I got the large basket of onion rings and unfortunately it was the toughest onion rings I've ever eaten in my entire life. You could use it to put a nail in a piece of wood. That's how hard they were. So then I thought hey you know what I'm going to try the breaded chicken, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. That turned out to be a terrible choice as well. The chicken was hard as a rock. The mac and cheese was basically macaroni and cheese on top of it. The mashed potatoes basically had garlic sauce dumped on top of them. I would have to say that this place, unfortunately did not live up to any expectations and I will definitely not be returning.
In all of the 15 years I have lived in Boone, I probably went to peppers 6-7 times. Every single time I get the worst service, pretty rough food, terrible mixed drinks, and it takes forever… the only thing halfway decent is the Cajun chicken pasta. I have gotten burnt burgers, bad cocktails, and always have to wait forever. Service was so bad last time I went, we were seated 20 minutes before anyone came up to us. I will not be going back to peppers.
I was SO disappointed. I got a $13 caesar salad, it came out with clear terrible Roman, a sprinkle of cheese and 2 (yes 2) coupons. The kids cheeseburger was small and burnt and the fries had 0 salt. On top of that, two kids meals and a salad took 45 minutes to receive after I ordered. I am never going back. It used to be great and I loved the old salad bar. It’s terrible now.
Got the pimento burger which was raw and had zero flavor. Plus they charged me to share it with my child. The steak fries weren't cooked all the way or seasoned with anything at all. Shrimp was rubbery and inedible. Terrible service on top of it all! Do not recommend!! Really overpriced and left still hungry!
