Cute french spot, ideal for a date night or even a date lunch. Portions are generous, flavors are pretty authentic, and they have a good selection of wines. Salmon, escargots, and moules frites are pretty solid. All their deserts are excellent.

I had an exceptional dinner. A dinner of French classics were perfectly executed. Foie gras with rhubarb sauce had a perfect blend of rich, sweet and sour flavors. The French onion soup was rich and satisfying. The frog legs were bursting with flavor and in a pleasantly crunchy coating. Deserts looked good, but we were too full to try them.

I can’t wait to be back in Boston just to eat here again. We were so impressed with the food, service, and atmosphere. With all the noise of the city, this place was so calm on a Saturday afternoon. No music so You can eat in peace. The baguette was crunchy on the outside yet soft in the inside. The butter was very savory. We had French toast with blueberries and it was so unique and perfect. Nothing like the American version. We also had Lobster soup, a little fishy for my liking but not bad. Lastly, the servers and host were so attentive in making sure we always had water in our cups without having to ask. Also many of the workers speak French so that was cool to hear or if you want to practice speaking. This is the closest you’ll get to France in Boston.

If you’re looking for a place that does classic French cuisine with care and consistency, this is it. They know how to cook a steak perfectly—flavorful, tender, and exactly how you order it. The menu is thoughtfully curated, with just enough variety to keep things interesting without overwhelming you. One highlight that really stands out is the flavored champagne. It’s a fun, unexpected touch that elevates the whole experience—refreshing and just the right balance of sweetness. And whatever you do, don’t skip dessert. The Grand Marnier soufflé is a showstopper: light, fluffy, with that warm, boozy orange flavor that hits all the right notes. It’s the perfect way to end the evening. The space itself is on the smaller side, so it feels more intimate than your typical restaurant—almost like dining in someone’s upscale home. It can get a little tight, especially during peak hours, but that’s part of the charm. Parking can be a bit of a hassle if you’re not familiar with the area. Street parking is limited, so I’d suggest heading straight for the paid lot a few blocks away—it’s worth it for a smoother experience. Whether you’re out for a romantic date night, celebrating something special, or just want a great meal in a cozy setting, Ma Maison delivers. It’s one of those places you’ll find yourself recommending again and again.

I highly recommend this French venue if you are craving authentic French cuisine. We got escargot, onion soup, beef burgundy, calf liver, couple cocktails (La Vie Rose and Parisian Passion), 2 desserts (Soffle - baked to order and Mousse au Chocolate). Everything was cooked to perfection, served with love and eaten with pleasure. Special shoutout to the waiter Justin. He was the best!

I was visiting for a few days and felt like French food—this spot did not disappoint. The food and service were both great. Highly recommend the steak frites, escargot, and the Grand Marnier soufflé. Everything was on point.

I simply love dining at Ma Maison. The staff members are always warm, personable and truly professional at their craft. They are extremely knowledgeable about the menu and it wine pairings. The food is always delicious and well executed. Each time I visit the experience is always consistent in the service and food alike. Thanks Ma Maison for always making me feel like a VIP and not only serving delicious meals, but creating wonderful memories each time I visit! 😊 8.9.2022 Calvin C.

The restaurant is really cute and romantic. The food was delicious and the staff kind and available. The steak tartare and the chocolate mousse are my favorite and their fries are crispy and absolutely perfect. I will definitely go back!

I’m excited to share my experience at Ma Maison! I’m not sure if my love for this place comes from the delightful company I had or the amazing food, but either way, it was a memorable evening. As a realtor in Boston, I’ve always wanted to visit but couldn’t afford it until I had a date who took me there. This was my first time trying escargot—yes, the slow and slippery snails! While I’ve since visited many times, my initial memory of this restaurant will always be tied to that dish. However, I quickly discovered that my favorite is actually the scallops. They are absolutely divine and a must-try! From the lattes to the sparkling drinks to the dishes, everything is impeccable. Bravo to the Chef! One downside? Parking can be tricky, but that’s to be expected in the heart of Boston. Despite that, Ma Maison is definitely worth the visit. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, make sure to stop by for a delightful dining experience!

We had an amazing lunch at Ma Maison! Their cocktails are delicious, I liked La Vie En Rosé (Grapefruit Liquor, French Rosé& Champaign). The Duck Leg Confit was the best I’ve ever had! And same with the Escargot. We will be back! The service was also great.

An authentic French culinary experience with amazing food and effortlessly precise, quintessentially French service. With its wood and brick accents and tile floors, Ma Maison feels like a rustic French cottage. This ambiance, nostalgic of the French countryside, pairs flawlessly with their classic French dishes. Beginning with the appetizers, the in-house smoked salmon stood out with its rich, chewy texture. Equally stunning was the pan-seared foie gras, a delicate delight harmoniously paired with the subtle sweetness of rhubarb. Not to be overlooked, the steak tartare with capers and crostini was also solid. From Plat de Résistance, the Duck Magret was an indulgent treat. While it did lean towards the fattier side, it was undeniable how the luxurious duck fat melded seamlessly with the earthy notes of asparagus and the sweet tang of cherry. Even the service managed to encapsulate French hospitality perfectly: unfussy yet impeccably timed, and replete with that nonchalant air that only the French can pull off. There are some great classic French restaurants in Boston, but Ma Maison, in my opinion, is superior to the popular ones in South End and Back Bay. Highly recommend giving them a try.

This is the most Authentic French Restaurant I’ve tried in Boston. The food is generous and smells and tastes like a Sunday at my grandmother’s. 🥹 The staff was amazing. They even offered us their Mousse au Chocolat for my friend’s birthday. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. 😍 I loved the maxi profiteroles and the salmon. And the bread was warm and fresh. They also do vegetarian options! French or not, you must try it.

The food was delicious. The duck was very good (the picture might not suggest that because I don't like the meat raw), the fish was very buttery and soft. The napoleon desert was AMAZING. It was fresh and airy, melting in your mouth. Loved that it was not as sweet as many restaurants make it. I got the la vie en rose cocktail, very fresh and tasty, and the raspberry white chocolate martini was delicious. Tasted like white chocolate with a hint of alcohol. Recommend! The creme bruilé was very tasty as well. I have been to quite a few French places and this one became one of my favorites.

Loved the foie gras and souffle! The chicken coq au vin was very tender and had a rich aftertaste. The portion's large, so prepare to have leftovers.

This charming French restaurant, discovered late one night, was a delightful find during our visit from Los Angeles. Seeking foie gras, we were pleasantly surprised by the waitress’s recommendation to also try the smoked salmon and oysters. Each dish was an absolute delight! This restaurant would make an ideal spot for a romantic date night. Its cozy and intimate atmosphere, reminiscent of a Parisian restaurant, adds to its charm.

This quaint little place was a huge hit. With one app, 2 soups, 2 entrees, 2 deserts, and some adult beverages, it was about $100 per person. They were not shy with a huge clump of lobster meat in the bisque. The French Onion Soup was some of the best I have ever had. Ray Wing (SkateWing) entree was great and cooked to perfection. The Duck L'orange transported me to some fancy restaurant in France! To wrap the evening up we had the chocolate souffle and baked strawberry Alaska we would order again. Reservations is a must if you want to dine at a decent hour. Dress code seemed pretty loose. Although knowing this I would still dress smart casual.

I bucked up and tried the kidney. It turned out to be kinda good. I've always wanted to try it since reading Ulysses. Wife got the lamb shank, it was amazing. The souffles for dessert were perfect, everything was spot on.

TLDR: The service is so good they will chase you down the block to return your forgotten phone! The food is even better than that! Absolutely outstanding, the food, the service, the atmosphere was all just tremendous. I ordered the French Toast and Blueberries, it was quite different from the US version, but it was warm, sweet, and melted in my mouth. My only regret is I wasn't hungrier so I could eat more. We were seated right away, I booked on Open Table and requested a quieter table and they happily obliged. The wait staff was attentive and responsive, my water never reached more than half empty before a stealthy refill took place. The food came out quickly and the check was present the moment we requested it. It was $40 for two people plus a well-earned tip which is a bit high but 100% worth it. If this place had better parking, I would be there a lot more!

C’est manifique!! I am at a loss to describe how much I loved the food at this French bistro. A small quaint bistro with less than maybe fifteen tables, the menu reflects a much grander experience than you might expect. The foie gras as an appetizer was superb (might use that word a lot). The French onion soup was also excellent (and finally, a restaurant that doesn’t oversalt their soup). As for the mains. The scallops were served with salsa were excellent. Also, fortunately, I read the menu the day before so I was able to give them a days notice for the Dover sole. Wow! I could order that every day. Finally, I finished with the chocolate and the Grand Marnier soufflés. Both great - but the chocolate was better (put some Grand Marnier in the sauce). Oh, and prices were more than reasonable. The wine list was fairly extensive with some good second growths on the list. Can’t wait to go back for the half a dozen other items on the menu that I crave.

Ma Maison is a true gem for anyone craving authentic French cuisine in Boston’s Beacon Hill Neighborhood. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and thoroughly professional. The meal began with a crisp endive salad, a French onion soup, and a seared fois gras paired with a rhubarb compote. The endive salad came with pears and Brie cheese, but was a bit bland. The French onion soup was very good but it could have been a bit richer in flavor and could have benefited from some brandy or sherry. The fois gras was absoutly lovely and the rhubarb compote added just the right touch of tartness. For our mains, the coq au vin was rich and hearty, but the chicken was a bit dry, the carrots overcooked and we missed the glazed onions, carrots and mushrooms. The magret de canard with its cherry reduction struck a wonderful balance between savory and sweet and was a truly a memorable dish. We finished with a non-classic tarte tatin and a vanilla soufflé. The tarte tatin was on puff pastry instead of the traditional pâte sucrée and the apples were not caramelized enough; this dish was a bit of a letdown. The soufflé, on the other hand, was light, airy, and subtly sweet and as close to a perfection as possible. Ma Maison is an elegant reminder that timeless French cooking never goes out of style. Each dish we had showcased classic technique and balance, highlighting the kitchen’s respect for traditional flavors. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an authentic French dining experience in Boston.

We visited Ma Maison for lunch and were seated right away. Wonderful service. Sweet little place on the corner in Cambridge. The salad with the crusted goat cheese was delicious. Don't skip the goat cheese! Tomato soup was creamy, bubbling and perfect. It paired perfectly with their bread. Salmon with ratatouille will be in my dreams. This was one of our favorite meals during our visit to New England.

Ma Maison in Boston is a true gem for classic French dining, delivering both elegance and generosity in equal measure. We began lunch with the French onion soup, and it set the tone beautifully. Deeply caramelized onions in a rich, savory broth were topped with a perfectly melted cap of cheese that stretched with each spoonful. It was comforting, balanced, and authentically French. The escargots were equally impressive—tender, flavorful, and bathed in a luscious garlic-parsley butter that begged to be soaked up with warm bread. The scallops were expertly prepared—seared to a delicate golden crust on the outside while remaining sweet and silky inside. Every bite reflected careful attention from the kitchen. The half steak was another standout: cooked precisely to temperature, beautifully presented, and surprisingly generous in portion. The fries were simply, ethereal. Crisp on the outside, buttery on the inside. In fact, all the dishes were more substantial than expected for refined French cuisine—an appreciated and welcome surprise. Service elevated the experience even further. The wait staff was attentive without hovering, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm. Courses arrived with impeccable timing—never rushed, never delayed. Presentation from the kitchen was superb, each plate thoughtfully arranged and visually inviting. Dessert was a massive, yet somehow chocolate Napoleon with an appropriate scoop of vanilla ice cream. Bottom line-it is Boston's exceptional French restaurant. Non better.

We were late for our reservation, but they were kind enough to hold our table, even with a full house. The staff was so kind and attentive. We were in from out of state to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. From the gracious and kind staff's welcoming reception, to the wonderful service and exquisite food, it was a perfect evening. A special thank you to our server, Blake. He made our night absolutely perfect.

Love this place. Food is always exceptional - simply prepared with awesome execution. Atmosphere is warm and reminiscent of bistros in France. Service is super impressive, special shoutout to Milan for always making us feel welcome and cared for while dining.

Wonderful little place with a cozy, generally welcoming atmosphere. This was our second time dining at Ma Maison, and the food was excellent on both visits. The service during our first visit was warm and attentive. During our second visit, however, the service was noticeably less welcoming and fell short of what we experienced previously. We plan to return again, as we hope this was simply an off day rather than a reflection of the restaurant’s usual standard.

It was so good! The standouts of the meal were the salmon with ratatouille (the sauce was incredible), the frog legs (absolutely amazing), and the dessert martinis. Our waiter was so attentive and sweet—she kept relighting our candle every time the wind blew it out, which was such a thoughtful touch.

Went here for my girlfriend’s 30th birthday and we LOVED it! Wonderful cozy atmosphere, this is what you look for in a Boston restaurant. We came just for dessert, which I put in the comments of my reservation because, as a previous waiter, I know how disappointing that can be. They were extremely nice about that, and of course my girlfriend saw another table eating escargot, which is her favorite food, so we ended up with more of a meal! I wanted this to be an extra special experience for her and this place really made that come true. Thank you so much for a perfect finish to our night, we will definitely be coming back!

My new favorite restaurant — had amazing cassoulet one nite, so came back the next nite. Had the “savory soufflés” with beef tenderloin. Pear Custard for dessert. Unpretentious, but reasonable wine selection. Service was absolutely excellent and right on-top of everything. Prices were reasonable. Dim lighting, which I like. I wish I could eat here every nite.

Ma Maison is an old school French restaurant, nothing innovative just the usual favorites. I had the walnut, cherry and romaine salad, the lobster bisque and the mussels. The salad was terrific, loved the dressing. The lobster bisque was good with plenty of lobster. The mussels were very plump, very good.

Location and ambiance are good. Of course you are not feeling like you are in France for sure, but at least it is not felt like a regular American restaurant. Service was great. When it comes to food, they claim they have the best Onion Soup in Boston. So, you are keeping your expectations high. I really liked the soup but it could have been a bit more garnished and with a little bit more consistency. As a main dish I had pan steered scallops garnished with garlic. Presentation was amazing. However, I could not taste the garlic and it was really unsalted, so could have been better. The most disappointing thing was the Almond Creme Brulee. I love this dessert so much, but they added too much almond extract. Only thing that I tasted was the bitter almond syrup so I could not finish it. Waitress asked me why I did not finish my dessert and I told them the reason. They did not charge for the dessert which showed their good attitude towards the customers. I don’t know whether I will go there again, but overall 7/10.

Came here for our anniversary. Super tiny place, not many seats so it felt a bit cramped. They gave us a complimentary drink for us celebrating. Since we arrived close to closing we ordered both courses at once. The steak tartare & the french onion so up. Both tasted great. Next course the lamb shank & the boneless bourguignon. My husband didn't care for the sausage that came with the lamb but I thought it had good flavor. Finally we were also given a small anniversary dessert. Very tiny so we also got the apple tart. Both had good flavor. This was our first time going. I would return.

A splendid restaurant red with everyday French fare that won’t break the bank! Ma Maison really makes you feel at home, with yummy soups and delicious dishes with a Euro-Bostonian vibe that is irresistible. I had the scallops that came beautifully presented on a shell and a refreshing cocktail. Perfect for an afternoon around town, a casual date or just when the crave of solid French food hits! Highly recommended.

The bread and butter is good. The space is a little cramped but waiters were friendly. It was fairly quiet before some really loud diners sat down since you can hear people across the restaurant. All the brunch items came with fries. I had the mussels with chorizo which I did not like as much as the brunch items my friends ordered. The mussels really take on the taste of the chorizo and some sort of wine mostly and this chorizo was a bit strange tasting

Nice small authentic French restaurant. Staff feels like on robo-mode playing the “French” thing and look tired. Food was good not amazing. The giant profiteroles is indeed giant but tastes like any supermarket frozen profiteroles. The crepe Suzette and soufflé were great. The couscous was not a couscous (watery sauce with large size couscous pearls). All meat dishes were very good. Restaurant is tiny so no room for waiting if you are early or table not ready.

Ma Maison is a lovely spot with really good food and attentive service. The dishes were flavorful and well-prepared — you can tell care goes into the kitchen. The staff were friendly and checked in at just the right times. The atmosphere is a bit plain for the name and concept, but overall a very enjoyable dining experience.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. The service here was absolutely horrible. We were “served” by an older waitress who made it very clear that we were not welcome. We didn’t get any greeting, even though I saw her welcoming every other guest with a smile. It was obvious she was singling us out. We sat there for a long time without anything, and when we simply asked for bread, she gave us attitude and acted like she didn’t want to give it to us, even though we asked if we could order some drinks and appetizers while waiting for our friends. She just walked away. This place needs to train their staff to treat ALL customers with respect, not just the ones they prefer. Avoid this place if you don’t want to be treated poorly.

Worst birthday dinner ever!! I’ve never experienced this kind of DISCRIMINATION before. From the start, the waitress (who never even introduced herself) came across as arrogant and rude. Our group had a table for six; half of us were seated while the others were still looking for parking. Not once did she ask if we wanted to order drinks or appetizers while we waited. We had to ask ourselves, and even then it took about 15 minutes just to receive some bread. Meanwhile, she seemed busy smiling and tending to every table around us except ours. When we tried to get her attention to place our order, she just waved us off and kept walking. I’m not sure if it was because of our color or if she simply didn’t care, but the way we were treated felt completely unacceptable.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! We were first served by an older waitress who was extremely rude. It took her 15 minutes to bring us bread after we asked, and when we tried to order drinks and appetizers while the rest of our party was still parking, she waved me off and walked away. She never returned. We eventually had to ask the hostess for assistance, and they reassigned us to another server. It was clear from the beginning that she had no interest in serving us. We ended up leaving after our appetizer without ordering dinner. Terrible experience.

We had amazing experience in this place for our anniversary, the food was delicious and the timing was right. The quail tasted great, my duck was juicy and my husband’s lamb shank came of the bone easily and was delicious! Edit: we came here again in August 2023 for our birthday party. The service was sooooo slow! We have been waited for our dishes for 1hour and 40 min. I mean I get it it takes time to prepare the food but this long??? People that came much later than we did left prior to us being served the food. So I believe we won’t come back… the food was ok this time, nothing special…

I ordered a cocktail (good) and two food items (awful). This “French” restaurant should be ashamed. No restaurant in France at their price point would serve this quality of food. The endive salad was rotten endive (and not much of it) shown in pic browned and wilted, two slices of overripe borderline rotten tomato, two slices of uncored brown apple, and an enormous hunk of Brie cheese that no one eats that’s way. Absolutely gross and inedible. The pate is a massive brick of mediocre pate with 3 tiny pickles and a dollop of mustard. Nothing else. Huge hunk of meat and nothing else. What do I eat this with? Just meat?? Never received a pate platter like that in France or here. Completely unacceptable for any restaurant but if this owner has set foot in France, maybe revisit. If the owner is from France they know better. This was such such a disappointment an absolute waste of money. I walked out having eaten nothing and had to go to a nearby pub: and in 48 years of various bad meals I’ve never felt inclined to leave a bad review, but this really upset me.

K
Kathy D

Overall this restaurant was disappointing. Every item needed more seasoning and tasted flat. For main courses we ordered. PEI steamed mussels, Cow Au Vin and Lamb Shank. Our meals were served within minutes of ordering. That tells me everything was already fully prepared. The mussels were mealy and broth was lacking flavor. Noodles had a nice bite to them but were bland. Lamb was tender but again tasteless. The bread served was absolutely delicious. Crusty on the outside and soft in the inside. Unfortunately that was the best bite. The appetizers were mixed. The onion soup was nice but the tartar had so much mustard in it that was all you could taste. Quaint restaurant with nice wine Selection but unless we hit them on an off night was not very good.

M
Marie Taylor

A pleasant welcome, but shockingly disappointed. My husband’s starter which was the French onion soup arrived which he enjoyed. However, after an hours wait I questioned where our main meals were and they’d obviously forgotten and the staff just told us to leave. Not what we expected for a birthday dinner.

L
Lauren Marshall

Asian diners can give this place a miss. Seems based on other reviews that the host/manager here, an older woman, has a pattern of bad treatment towards Asian customers. Saw another review here stating this restaurant is trying to ‘emulate parisian snobbery on beacon hill’ — seems accurate to me. The maitre d’ was bafflingly hostile to my party, while being clearly courteous to regular customers. I came for lunch to check out the restaurant ahead of making a large party booking here and immediately cancelled my plans here. The food is ok—nothing exceptional. In Europe this bistro would be totally mundane and unexceptional. Perhaps Americans are willing to tolerate the rude older waitress, imagining it is a typical French attitude. But as a European myself, I have no such paternalism: if you work in service, treat your customers with basic respect. Particularly if you choose to favour your regulars, often old and white, over young POC clientele—think of how that makes the latter group feel…
