Home made tortillas. That should tell you how authentic this place is. Great taste and service. One of my favorite in the area.
I highly recommend there shrimp tacos the taste is amazing and the price is unbeatable. Great small restaurant I'll definitely be returning
Delicious carnitas! I stopped in for lunch and had the Carnitas special plate. These are not the greasy carnitas that sit under a heat lamp. These were fresh cooked, light and not a spot of grease on them. The homemade corn tortillas were very good.
The 7 mares clado (7 seas soup) is so good it has a lot of flavor and the mocajete of sea food is also great because it's actually seafood and not imitation price is reasonable I went with my daughter son-in-law and their 3 kids plus my 2 older son we received excellent service you should really try it
They are busy most weekend, have patient. The food is very delicious!!!! Call and ordered before pick up!! Or stay and dined, food is really good, I come and eat every time I have a chance!!!
The food here is great i recommend getting the Molcajete!
It was awsome... small lil place. But their food is awfully delicious. I had the caldo de res. It was raining and I was cold. Best thing to eat to get that warmth back. Blessings
We had the molcajete and holy smokes, that was delish. Great tasting food and large portions. This is our first time here while visiting Santa Ana this year.
Went for dinner and it was amazingly delicious! You get what you pay for and best customer service. Highly recommended this place .
I had a business lunch and this was suggested. The food was awesome, the service was great and the only issue I have is no a/c, but they have a very nice patio to have lunch at.
Very good food, reasonable prices and very clean. Service is very good and the food is some of the best around. Highly recommended
Love this place but only when my favorite cook and hostess is there. Anything onthe menu is delicious. The carnitas are superb.
Great food and great service. The food always tastes great ! I always leave happy and full. I fell in love because they are one of the FEW crafting handmade tortillas by the order. Great atmosphere. Try the diablo shrimp !!! If you're a spicy person dive into this !!! I haven't had a bad meal yet :)
This place is hidden in the heart of Santa Ana, and family owned. They have the best home made tortillas with menudo and posole on the weekend. When I go I order a carne asada taco with a shrimp cocktail or posole. So so good!
People if you love "Mexican Food" then this is the go to spot! You know that hole in the wall spot you only hear from a colleague or friend. This place has it all and some. Staff here are friendly and attentive to your needs. Everything is made fresh and ready to order. Beware the wait might be anywhere from 30mn-45mn, yeah it's that good! This is a cozy place and welcoming. No this is no "high end" wannabe Mexican franchise, so please don't be that person expecting to be treated like royalty. Don't be afraid of it's location, it's safer than it looks. By the way you could try the street tamales by the corner while you wait... 😎💯🍺👌👅
What a rich broth of dry chiles, spices and beef panza make up this menudo. Plus it was not overly greasy. I haven’t tasted a menudo this good in a long time, and believe me I have tried menudo all over the place. Hand made tortillas were excellent and the buche taco I tried did not disappoint either, one of the best around my friends.
Yummy... excellent food great people may God bless and Merry Christmas excellent service very nice and clean.. it makes me feel like I'm eating homemade food right at home my own home of course.

This is my 1st time here I ordered enchiladas verdes and they were good. The girls are nice very attentive the place only had like 4 or 5 tables being used so I feel like it wasn't busy so they were pretty quick with their service. It's a decent size place and the atmosphere is so welcoming I will be returning
Their menudo is really good and they have wonderful servers. I felt welcomed and enjoyed the food although there is not a lot of space to dine in inside but there are more tables outside
I absolutely love this place the best tasting food with great flavor prices are very fair, and the quality and taste are oh so amazing 😋 always go definitely one of favorite places to dine If you are a Mexican food type of person you must try this place you won't be disappointed they appetizers beans, chips and salsa are soooo good 😋

Food is really good. Service not so great. A bit small. Don't expect a fast service either
Just visited for the first time. I got a carnitas burrito. It was big and delicious. Definitely recommend it.
I give the food five stars, it's a tight little restaurant that serves takeout food, and it's usually busy, but it all moves quickly. If you want comfort get the food to go, and fix the margaritas at home.
I ordered a Carne Asada burrito. It came with beans rice cilantro, onions it was good size and it tasted good. Not the best but I will recommend going here. I don’t understand why sometimes when you buy a burrito you’re only given one hot sauce cup. It’s not enough, and they didn’t have Soda machine they only had bottles of soda and other drinks.
Always good no matter what food i get. Chickem enchiladas are really good here. Rice and beans are alright but i come for the entrees and soup 🌮🌯🥙🥣🍜

So we wanted some good food like a molcajete, beans and menudo. Maybe just maybe homemade tortillas? We got it all! Service was great , chips and salsa. We ordered the molcajete, menudo and green enchiladas. We are very picky about our food. The rice was bland hence 4 stars . But the rest of the food was delicious. Also my daughter didn’t care for her enchiladas. She ate our beans and hers. Menudo was the best I have had since my Mom. My son kept dipping his homemade fluffy corn tortilla into the molcajete salsa. Highly recommend. Also seems to be a more of seafood place. Which also looked delicious if you like fried fish.
Great food. Flavor is really good. Real Mexican food. B
Found this "hole in the wall" after visiting the Bowers Museum. It's around the corner from it. The food is very good, and worth the visit. It may not look like much from the parking lot, but get inside and there's a full service dining area. I had the carnitas and they were great (it's my test meal at all mex restaurants).

Menudo is the best plate here at carnitas Sahuayo, prices are reasonable, find a parking spot could be a little challenging on the weekend.
A year ago the food was excellent but they changed chefs and the food lost a lot of flavor
Food tasted very mediocre and the carnitas were bland, lacked color, and tasted like it was boiled. To top it off my salad had mayonnaise!
Came for the menudo. Hand made tortillas & the green salsa is something else, yum! The meat was too firm for my liking and it’s not my mama’s menudo. 😞

We love this place. Good food, friendly staff and affordable prices. Lots of TVs to watch the soccer matches. They also have a jukebox (only music in Spanish though) Excelente lugar. Buena comida, los trabajadores son muy amigables, buenos precios. ***EDIT 2025*** This used to be one of my favorite local Mexican restaurants. They offered delicious food, friendly service and affordable prices. Sadly it's not the same anymore. Took my family (4 of us only) as soon as they handed us the menu, the first thing I noticed was the dramatic increase in the prices (No, I'm not a cheapskate, especially when it comes to food) we didn't order anything crazy. Daughter: one asada taco and a Jamaica to drink. Wife: Vegetarian- chips and salsa and some slices of avocado on a plate. A glass of water to drink. Mom: a bowl of menudo and one Jamaica Myself: I was the only one that ordered a plate of Shrimp (camarones al mojo de ajo) and a Coke to drink. When I got the bill our total was $198 and some cents I left a $20 dollar tip because outlet waitress was very attentive. I could tell right away they also reduced their portions. On their plates at least, mine was half empty. I understand the economy is hard right now but come on, we are all struggling. If it wasn't because I really love their Menudo, which is also more expensive now for a way smaller portion . I would cross this place off my list.
Menue says "sabroso menudo" not really. Menudo was not good and the smell was to strong same as the taste. They need to wash it well or find a different way to cook it.

They hit you with secret fees like gratuitous fee when they give you attitude for every little thing
Real Mexican food. Waitresses clueless, they forgot to attend us, we waited for 20 min and they lacked things in the order, my tortillas after a long time😒😡
bad customer service since the beginning, I ordered birria de res and I got pozole without the hominy, waitress didn't offer anything else. I'll never go back to carnitas Sahuayo when I'm in California
The food tasted like literal store bought food. It lack flavor and upon further inspection I found that their owners are not even from Sahuayo Michoacán. A complete waste of money and time, I Would rather eat at my local trash deposit than this joke of a Mexican restaurant.
First time visiting at this restaurant.. .Very bad service...food 👎 no good...dirty tables...place was empty and took them almost 30 minutes to serve my plate....this place should go out of business soon
i really wanted medudo and it was horrible ..it smell was pretty bad .. the smell comes from the meat not being wash well .. other place do a very good job of washing the meat really well so you dont have to taste it or smell. not going again.
love there food .. was just disappointment i asked for crispy shrimp plate and i got disgusted when i saw a hair on my beans .. dont think i will be going to that place. i think everyone needs hair nets cooks and cashiers waitress . Very dissaponted .
I went to this place today and asked for mixed carnitas and got mostly buche, not only was that disappointing but it didnt taste like carnitas at all. It was very bland. I do not recommend going here for carnitas.
Bad customer service... waited about 10 min for the menu when we sat down and then the chicken enchiladas got me very sick! Regretted going.
not sure how my menudo had steel wool. the service was the worst I had. smell your food before you eat it. the menudo smelled bad. now I have headache and feel like throwing up. what a waste of money.
Last time I was here the food handle dropped the empty plateand wanted to serve me in it, I asked him politely if I can have a different plate cause usually the floors are dirty especially when it's Carnitas. The employee replied "it's not like you're going to die" maybe I might not die but I know it's not healthy. Maybe he should be trained even Osha certified. Food is good but service and attitude is bad. The guy didn't toss the plate away he gave it to the next customer cause I saw him use it. Disgusting.
I got food poisoning, and mom as well. Waiter charge us a lot and incorrect. Don't go there.
