This place is always a vibe. Great service and drinks. Dj has the music bumping to match the atmosphere. Service is always on point, and they will look out for you if you become a regular as far as seating and reservations go. Food can sometimes leave you wanting but doesn't detract from the experience

I really enjoyed my first visit a few weeks ago. The staff is attentive and personable. The decor is well done and the atmosphere is lively. I really enjoyed the music as well. I ordered chicken alfredo and a regular margarita. Both were delicious and I couldn't finish the food. If you try the chicken alfredo, do not carry it home. It's great when it's fresh but the sauce was nothing but oil the next day. Also, many of the patrons enjoy hookah. The place is well ventilated and the smoke is not a problem if you're not into it.

Such a fun spot. Went here with my best friend on a Tuesday night and it was still so lit ! Music is great they play a variety of music. Their happy hour is also awesome and so is the hookah.

My best friend had her birthday dinner here. The food was so gooood ! We had appetizers, the nachos and quesadillas. After we had the nachos we did not order more food, we were full! The staff members were so kind and friendly people. We had a great time !

Went here for a birthday brunch at first there was a mix up but it was fixed fast, once we were seated they brought the drinks. The vibe was hella chill. After the liquor hit we were dancing. There was a conga line, hookahs, strangers enjoying each other's company. It was truly an amazing experience. I recommend the white wine sangria if you're into sweet and smooth, the red is more of a strong and dry. I had the omelette with home fries, all was good. I highly recommend if you're looking for a place to vibe and have a great time.

Love this place great food friendly people N great music. Good for celebrations with friends and family. Very people friendly. It's like being someplace where everyone knows each other. My daughter in law had a blast for her birthday. We are all planning return visits. We traveled all the way from Brooklyn to Washington heights to this restaurant.

The guy at the front with the ponytail was handsome and professional. We wanted some rice and they currently weren't serving it and gave us some. Ana was pretty, perfect, and professional. The DJ Danny was AWESOME. I could barely eat because I was jamming to all his great music. This place is a MUST.

I spontaneously came here for a lunch date and was very happy. The service was fast and everyone was very friendly. The atmosphere was fun and lively as they had a live band playing music. The food and drinks were spot on! I had their mofongo and LOVED it. I promise you won't be disappointed here!!

I had an experience here at brown sugar I have to say I love this place very comfortable very warmly perfect place for a date night out with your girls/ guys they will take care of you. My aunt had her wedding brunch here and let me tell you, we had a great time. Nena was our waitress and she was amazing. Everything we ordered she remembered and it was a big party. She was very attentive, even asked her for coffee ( which wasn’t on the menu) and milk for my son and she went above and beyond to get me those things. As an appetizer most of us ordered the chicken or shrimp quesadillas and they were huge and delicious. For the main course I ordered the churrasco and it was cooked perfectly and very flavorful, the others ordered the fettuccine or the 3 golpes and they were also good. Overall very satisfied with the experience, specially the customer service nena provided.

Brown Sugar was great, the service was amazing and the food and drinks were really good. Our waiter was very attentive and our glasses were never empty. The atmosphere was fun and the music was great, I would definitely come back.

The crowd here tends to be young and the music loud, so not my style. Having said that, if that is your style, you will probably love hanging out here. I live close by and come here for take-out. And I can tell you that the food is fantastic! Excellent Latin food, not expensive, nice portions, served by friendly staff. Some of the best food in the Inwood neighborhood.

We had a great time here. The space was really nice. I loved the overhead lighting fixture. The food was really good. Everyone had something different on the menu so we got to try a lot of things. My favorite thing was the shrimp mofongo and the passion fruit sangria. We were here during happy hour so everything was priced pretty decently. The music is very loud. So, be warned if you do not like loud music make sure to sit away from the DJ. I would go back and try brunch.

Great atmosphere, delicious food, attentive staff, drinks were on point and so was the music- by the live Dj. Hubby and I went there for a birthday dinner celebration and had a great time. We started of with the crabcake, chicken wings and empanada for appetizers ( all were tasty). For dinner i ordered the salmon and had the skirt steak , also delicious. We will definitely go back very soon.

My wife, her relatives and I happened to find this place on Broadway, and decided to try it out. We decided to eat outside because the weather was nice. They had a D.J. inside playing and it was loud enough to still hear the music. We ordered our drinks and an appetizer, and both seemed to be served, very fast. The shrimp ceviche mojito with mango salsa was so fresh and delicious. My wife and I really enjoyed it. The guys ordered the Cuban sandwich, my wife ordered the big mixed salad. I opted to order the grilled pork chop with yellow rice and vegetables. It was absolutely delicious. It tasted more like a steak on the grill. All the while we observed as people were on their feet and dancing to the music or enjoying their hookah. We all had a great night.

I come here often. It’s a perfect place to come after work have drinks, have dinner with family, including kids or for brunch. The food is great and is priced well. Very diverse atmosphere and the music is enjoyable by all crowds!

If your looking for a ratchet time this is the place to go. No. Seriously. Go, and just enjoy yourself with their all day brunch, the sangria you get unlimited for 90 minutes is strong and you can literally just chill. Have fun, don't be a critic about the food. It clearly isn't the food that drives people here, with the exception of their empanadas.

Excellent service. Great atmosphere. Prices were comparable. We had the Coconut Shrimp as a starter. Perfectly delicious. Then we had the Rib Eye Steak with mixed veggies and added a lobster tail. Steak was done to order, with great flavor. Veggies were well prepared. Only issues, music was a "bit" too loud, and the lobster tail was a (little) over done. Which made it somewhat chewy. Other than that, great experience, with an amazing in house view.

Lively atmosphere, food is good, staff are great. The one problem that I had was that I informed them that I was allergic to all shellfish and they still brought me my food with shrimp in it! They apologized and corrected it, but by the time they brought the right thing, my cousin had finished her food.

My second visit the food was much better this time. Drinks were better as well. I sat at the bar and the service was excellent. I went this past Saturday 02/18 after 8pm. First DJ was terrible but towards the end of the night the music got better. Please read the crowd as the DJ!!

Good food! Our waiter Anthony was amazing, he was very attentive. He came to our table a few times to ask how we were doing and if we needed anything else. I had a little issue with my main course and he was understanding about it and offered drinks on the house and a side order.. Great customer service skills.

Great Atmosphere and the live DJ was on point for our entire brunch. The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly. The day I went there was a couple birthday parties and we were having a baby shower but it was like one big party and we were all invited.

I liked this place. The brunch food was very good. I ordered the salmon and adjusted the sides- mangu and two eggs on the side. It was very loud but that’s how my Dominican people roll.

Mofongo was delicious. Coconut shrimp appetizer was overcooked.

Group of 6 celebrating a friend's bday food was very good even though brunch menu is a little limited ,drink on point but the music was a little loud for an afternoon brunch. We were not able to have a normal conversation because of the music otherwise all was good .

Location is great... Went at around 5pm on a Saturday, Dj was present and had music very loud, unable to talk with my party but had fun due to the drinks.. Requested for kids food to be placed in advanced but still got it with everybody elses, so no conaideration to my request... Might give them another try but with a different type of agenda...

Good place. Great food. Drink menu is good. Prices are decent. Very lively. Lots of amazing music played by a DJ. They offer hookah which is nice but me personally I'd rather do hookah at a hookah lounge or a bar and not a kid friendly restaurant.(yes, there are kids there!) To be fair, they do have a lot of outdoor seating so hookah can be smoked outdoors. The staff is great and so is their service but they quickly get outnumbered and service speed slows down tremendously and orders get confused. Overall a good place to go to on a Friday or Saturday night.

Boasting a mixture of Latin cuisine from different cultures, Brown Sugar was a pleasant surprise. Located in the middle of the Broadway strip, this was a gem of a find. At first I was deceived, with the loud music and the lack of a noticeable crowd I was skeptical. However, the food was sensational, made fresh and to order. From the fresh made guacamole to the well seasoned red snapper. Everything was well prepared. The staff were warm, friendly and attentive. The draw back was the music, it was unbearable and at times inappropriate for a restaurant. It took away from the food and the feel. Nevertheless the food was impressive.

Was here on Valentine day and had the Valentine's special 2 appetizers, 2 meals and a pitcher of sangria for $60, what a deal!! I had the skirt steak and I wasn't disappointed, picture below. The clan appetizer was good but a bit cold, stuffed tostones was delicious.

Went on a Monday night. Had 3 happy hour drinks and was not buzzed at all. Told waiter it was my friend bday and that we wanted tres leches cake. Never brought over cake, never sang happy bday. We were legit the only people dining there that night. So idk.

I can't say much about this place as I didn't really get to sit and enjoy a meal here. My husband, daughter and myself came here on a Saturday night at about 8:30 for a quick bite. However, when we got there it was very loud and full of hooka smoke. Couldn't stay. The server was very kind and understanding of why we chose to leave.

I want to give this locale more stars because it was well decorated, the ambiance was good, and the hookahs are served with plastic hoses. BUT.... the have a cover charge and the staff at the entrance is a bit 9n the rude side. I wish I could say this was a one time occurrence but it wasn't. As a born and bred New Yorker I should not have to pay a cover charge, when an establishment has no performances and the clients will be spending money on food, drinks and hookahs. Plus a mandatory coat check for even blazers I should give them 2 stars

I'm writing this review with mixed feelings. I visited for happy hour and in all honesty I would've been better off missing half priced items,maybe I'd understand why things were so expensive. Every item carried and extra charge ex.$5 for sauce on my chicken wings(is that even a thing?) I watched our waitress take a smoke break while we were trying to get her attention to order food to-go before happy hour ended,she made it to us after the time was pleased to tell us that happy hr was over even though she was aware before time. The food we decided to have was good but it's not for revisit.

Went here for a birthday party, the place was great! The live music was awesome and loved it all, Except when other people not in the party started trying to talk to us. This is what I didn’t like. They let adults way to close to the minors even though they knew it was a sixteen year olds, and the staff did nothing. The birthday girl would’ve gotten harassed because of this dude, There should be a policy or at least letting people know they can’t be in somebody else’s group.

The good was delicious. However. The service leaves a lot to be desired. We had a party of 20. The waiters did not know what each individual ordered. I ordered a medium rare churrasco and they serve it well done instead. The barmaid charged someone drinks on somebody credit card even though the lady paid her cash. Needs more organized servers. I don't thing any of the waiters could work in a restaurant downtown. They would not last a day But the food was rather good.

Food was okay but no wow factor. Service was strange. Wait staff was pleasant but plate was cleared seconds after finishing meal. Cloth napkin disappeared from the whole table before dessert. All utensils were removed from table when main course was finished and plastic utensils were given to eat dessert. Why?

The food was really good I don't care for there drinks but I will be going back soon

The serivce and server was great. She came to check on us a few times. I do feel the food lacked seasoning of some kind especailly since it is a cuban Resturant. The drinks was also average, we changed our drink, then stuck with water toward the end. The music was bumping and the vanue was clean which were a plus.

Mofongo was mid. And the dish was supposed to come with avocado but didn’t. I had to ask for it twice and they charged me? When I mentioned I was charged for an ingredient that was supposed to come with the food they claimed it was “mixed in” even though there was no trace of it.

I came here on a Sunday after happy hour around 10:27pm. I asked the bartender how much his pitchers were and I thought he had said 17$ for the rum pitcher but when he made it. He gave me a recipe of 70$. How much is your pitcher? I tried to call the lounge but you guys have your number out of service which is sketchy. I got the rum pitcher with a yellow color.

Brunch time was nice because that crowd was really good. Sat at the bar, bar service took forever and 2 days. Only 1 bartender during brunch while all tables were packed seemed more like a purposeful set up 😒. 1 drink took 10 minutes, she did her best for being slammed. Food was ok. They do beer buckets, something many bars are no longer offering, the hookah was the best part.

Went to Sunday brunch with a friend. Music is so loud we were yelling at each other lol music was good though , a little of everything. The coconut mojito was amazing. The food was okay. Quesadilla was more tortilla than anything else. The salmon was a bit salty but overall it was okay. Server wasn't too attentive but it was busy so she was all over the place. My friend said the churrasco was amazing ! I had a great time cause of the company not sure if I would go back for brunch. It was over crowded and the setting/vibe wasn't it for me, ppl smoking hookah and kids present...😵 Also why bump the music so loud there was no where to dance!

The drinks were good. The rib dinner that we order had 3 ribs and the meat was hard. It was so hard we couldn't bit off the meat of the bone. In the end we complained that it was inedible and they didn't charge us for the ribs. They said that next time they'll do better. The server was cordial. The service in general was slow and it wasn't crowded.

This place has potential and came recommended, but i ordered a steak and they gave me a flimsy plastic butter knife. I asked for a real knife to cut and eat my steak because a white man next to me had one and they told me they couldn't because of covid restrictions. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I didn't want my food 🙃....the mojitos tasted like mix and the mint was wilted and yellow. My food was delicious no complaints there. Other than that great ambience and seating.

The atmosphere was nice. Great spot for hookah and drinks. 1 out of 10 I would give them a 4 for food. Usually dining out french toast is made with a fluffy brioche not regular sliced bread. Also I wish they had other options of sides that would match better with pancakes or waffles. I'm not sure if I would revisit. If I did it would be for drinks and hookah.

Bad service overall. For the 3rd time I visited this place, this time with my significant other. We waited what I considered the average for a waitress to come. But the problem started when we asked for Sangria and we got Mimosas instead. We order pasta with chicken and we got shrimp instead. Clearly this waitress was not paying attention at all. But before be got our meal, we asked how long before we get the meal served, the young lady went away for about 2-3 minutes and came back saying that the pasta was not ready yet, literally 30 seconds later the waitress shows up with the food, and the pasta was cold, clearly lying to our faces 😒. Then here comes the bill with a 18% gratitude charge for a horrible service. I asked for a burger which was good and well done. But again, overall, bad service, I wish restaurant owners pay more attention to what goes on in their business, especially in the Uptown area. It's not the first time not place I experienced this.

The Sunday prie fixe is good value.. but at what cost. Two of our pitchers had bugs and hair and the server didn’t even bat a lash. My meal tastes fully like a frozen to microwave dish.

The empanadas were delicious, and the cocktails were tasty (and strong). The chicken and waffles were not good. I sent back the chicken/waffles plate because it tasked like shrimp and had an odd taste. The waitress was very sweet and kind, but I was surprised they didn't give any credit on the bill given I sent back the food after one bite. Pricing was moderate ($200 for cocktails and brunch for two people).

The menu was not very diverse , and it took forever to get our food. The waitress was great, though, and she was very friendly . Not much else to say.

The place looks nice, but the service not too good. My friends and I were looking for a nice place to have a good time, but we couldn’t even have a conversation because music was way too loud. Place is too small for that loud music. Drinks were not what we expected either. We just had a drink and left.

Very nice place and the chef, Francisco Javier, is amazing! But my friends and I made reservations and they didn't come pull through with everything that was promised prior to the party. We've made 2 parties there before and both times they've told me one thing and then the day of the party its another. When I spoke to the owner, Gino P, he changed everything i had planned prior to the party and after i had paid with no other option other than the one he offered and that was that. It was really bad service and i honestly wouldnt do another event with them again.

I went in there because I was invited by a promoter for a comedy show!!! Honestly everything went well at the beginning.... we were sat down in a table where me and my fiancé where having drinks waiting on some friends to come and join dinner with us. When our friends finally made it in they came to our table to obtain our order. Comedy show started and we never recieved our meal. To me it was embarrassing because I had invited friends over. My waitress stated to my face that they never place the order when all four of us placed it together 🤦🏻‍♀️. I had to share my meal with my friend and my financed shared his burger with his friend. I was highly upset and I think if it wasn’t for the comedy show then it would’ve really been a issue. I believe they need more employees and to be more organized. I can’t even comment on the food cause one we didn’t get a complete order and two I had to share it. Instead of them bringing food to the table the manager offered drinks 🙄 we were hungry not thirsty by the way. I wish I had a good experience. First thing everyone said was we never coming back. I love comedy shows so it wasn’t what I wanted to hear 🤷‍♀️

I wish I could give this place a ZERO. My friend was having a brunch for his birthday, it began at 2 pm We showed up at 4 pm were seated. It was clearly an Spanish crowd. We ordered hookah and ordered food. It was the brunch special that came with 2 hour mimosa’s we were told. There were no more mimosas and were brought literally one pitcher but still had to pay for the brunch price. After an hour my food came, the shrimp was undercook the steak tasted stale and gritty, fries were over salted my friend food did not come. 3 people spoke to the short Spanish guy who was serving us about her food. She was sitting there hungry and annoyed. Finally I went to the back to speak to him we stood in front of the kitchen and he said it’s coming I said great so I’m going to stand here until it comes we can bring it to her together. He throws his hands up and says speak to the cook I have no control. So I walked in the kitchen NO ONE WAS WEARING GLOVES, there was HAIR AND SWEAT ALL OVER THE PLACE. I asked the macho Spanish guy in a plaid shirt how long does it take to make steak and eggs. He caught an attitude and said my friend won’t be eating. So I said we aren’t paying for anything. I went to go tell my friend we were leaving and her food finally came out by the time she didn’t want it. The owner of the establishment came over and offered no discount or reparations my friend and I walked out and paid for NOTHING. this establishment only caters to Spanish people. I will not be coming back here and I strongly suggest you don’t go either

Worst restaurant ever. Don't waste your money and time like i did. The waitress are very rude ,especially the oldest one and they treat you with an attitude like they hate to deal with people. The food is is just horrible .This place i guess it's just good to have a nice drink and that's it. THE FOOD SUCKS AND THE SERVICES TOO

Take my review with a grain of salt- maybe we got them on a bad day but the service was horrible. The food was awful, dry ..the drinks we very sweet w/o alcohol for the brunch special. We had a 16 member party and the drinks were very slow to come out; one at a time. Sorry I wouldn't recommend. But again, maybe we got them on a bad day.

I visited this establishment last night, 4/15/22. After we waited 15 to 20 minutes in our seats with nobody acknowledging us to take our order, I decided to usher the guy waiter who was pleasant to take our order. The problem I really had was with the hookah. There was a particle floating in the hookah water so I respectfully asked the waiter for the water to be changed. He said okay and informed the hookah guy. When the hookah guy came he advised me it was normal for a substance to float in the water. He said it was the mint? Guess what! Mint does not look like a piece of fish or shrimp floating in water. The guy who walks around collecting plates and asking if everything was alright came to our table, and agreed with the hookah guy after the hookah guy relayed whatever he understood I said to him and refused to change the water as well. It was either their lack of understanding of English, music being so loud so they couldn't hear or they were simply ignorant about the request. After I explained the situation again to our waiter by typing on my phone so he can read and understand since the music was so loud, he looked at the water and noticed the floating particle so he got this same guy who walks around to replace the hookah. By then, it was about 45 minutes of back and forth with changing hookah water. We waited another 10 minutes for the hookah to be replaced but it NEVER happened so we got our tab and left. I will never return to Brown Sugar Bar & Restaurant especially after paying $40 for hookah and not getting to smoke it. If that is the floor manager, he should be trained again because he simply lacks problem solving and critical thinking skills. Please distinguish between mint and other substances/particles. MINT dissolves in water and letting the hookah sit there for about 45 minutes, the particle continued to remain the same shape and size. It is instances like this that reminds some of us to go downtown in the city because the experiences and customer service tends to be better. The floor guy and hookah guy were simply mediocre! It costs nothing to change hookah water. What it cost you was this review I posted and me never returning here. Keep that up and you will continue to lose patrons.

As soon as me and my husband walked into this restaurant, I saw a couple women dancing by their tables. That alone disturbed me. I'm here thinking I'm going to a nice restaurant To have a nice Cuban cuisine and that's the first thing I see! Not acceptable. And the music was so loud!!! I couldn't hear myself think! And no Cuban music!? The drinks were just ok and all we ordered were the empanadas which was also ok. The waiter was very nice and polite. We were grateful for that. Thank you. And last but not least, there was a child present! In the mist of hookah and very loud music! They checked our IDs, scanned and all! Lol but yet we see a child...? Wow. We were disappointed.

According to Brown Sugar's Staff the picture attached to this review is a salmon dish. I think it the most idiotatic thing anyone had said about a dish. You can clearly see that the dish is an Egg Benedict with spinach and fish. To them is a salmon dish. I would definitely not recommend coming to eat at this restaurant. The food is good as well as the atmosphere is good, but "They Pull The Old Switch Around" and tell Customer's their Credit Card Machine is "NOT WORKING" and Direct You to Their Excessive FEE ATM Machine. Especially on Friday's and The Weekend!!!! BEWARE ASK IF THEIR CREDIT CARD MACHINE IS WORKING.

Tip is already included in the bill. Don’t tip again. If you tap to pay you won’t even see that tip is already added. Pretty sure it’s done on purpose.

Where to begin, the description it's has is Cuban restaurant. I am from New Jersey Hudson County we have a gazillion Cuban restaurants and this is not a Cuban restaurant. From the outside it looks like a real cool restaurant lounge type when you walk in very plastic tablecloths on the table. Got there about 7:45 DJ was blasting music. We had mofongo, super dry unseasoned nowhere near what we are accustomed to as my husband is Puerto Rican. the chafue rice at no flavor. The chicken chicharron had no taste whatsoever. Overbpriced
