We had a delicious dinner at Mamajuana on Saturday night. It was our first time there and also our first time having Dominican food. Everything about the experience was wonderful. Our friendly and thoughtful waiter Yuri guided us through the menu to suggest some classic Dominican dishes. My boyfriend had Oxtail stew with a delicious rice side and I had a wonderful fried fish with a bright lime dressing. We really enjoyed the food, the service and the atmosphere. The atmosphere was lively and also family friendly. The food was fresh, thoughtful and delicious and the staff was attentive and enthusiastic about the food. We highly recommend you stop by whether or not you are familiar with Dominican food. It was really delicious and we are looking forward to our next visit to Mamajuanas Restaurant in Inwoodd.
LOVE this restaurant! The "special" calamari salad is to die for, the frozen margaritas are the best I've ever had (and huge), and everything else that has been ordered has been fantastic (the seafood ceviche, the crab cake with avocado, etc.). Plus, the service is attentive and friendly. Just note that on Sundays they have a buffet (which I've never tried), so you can't order from the regular menu. Highly recommend!
First time visiting this location as per a friends request since I was in the neighborhood. Had the Redsnapper with plantains tasty very good ordered some food to take home to some family members they like it very much already but lambing for a next visit next week.
Brought my in-laws here for their first taste of Dominican food and we absolutely loved it!! Our waiter Erui gave us great suggestions for food; they were absolutely delicious. The food does take some time, but it is worth it. Finished off our meal with a shot of mamajuana and it was the perfect cherry on top of a great evening.
Celebrated my friends birthday! The food and drinks are everything! The area is crowded, though. Do Valet parking it's only 25. It's worth it cause it's hard to find parking in the Heights!. Great music and food. We had a ball! Excellent service 👏 👍
Amazing food and staff the presentation of the food is pure art We will definitely be back We called Sunday asked if the had room for a party of 10 They said sure We were pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere and vibe Food is amazing and drinks were awesome Staff is top notch Food Came out nice and hot And so beautiful you can tell they take pride in that kitchen
Omg we had a blast our waitress Eyvonne was the Bomb ,she got every order right ,our food was piping hot and delicious, she was so attentive to our needs ,Beautiful spirit .Drinks were to die for overall every one was so accommodating, they don't rush you to eat your food like other restaurants I will not name lol .if you havent been here please go you won't regret it .insane vibe
An iconic Inwood spot – a true slice of the Dominican Republic in the heart of northern Manhattan. Authentic flavours, lively vibes, live DJ music, Dominican beer, and a warm welcome.
I'm a hungry person, so I've had a lot of foods. I just have to say that the foods in this restaurant, just might be some of the best I've ever had💯. I'm not going to lie and say I know a lot about Dominican food because I don't, BUT I know food in general and the food here tastes really, damn good. In addition to the aforementioned deliciousness, the staff were amazingly friendly, attentive, and helpful, the outdoor dining and atmosphere were amazing, and the drinks were creative and delicious! If you're looking for any food recommendations the ceviche was the stand out hit🙌 10/10 would recommend. Legitimately thinking of moving apartments to be near to this restaurant, that is how good it is. Go there NOW!🙏
Coming to Mamajuana In Inwood is a unique NY Experiance. Inwood " is Just about as North and "Uptown" as you can in "Upper Manhattan", The lovely Sidewalk Cafe sits amongst several other pretty sidewalk cafes. Mamajuana however is favorably situated under 2 shady trees that kept our party of 6 cool in the 90 degree sun. We were there to celebrate our daughters high school graduation with several of her classmates. I had walked by this block last Autumn and filed it away in mylist of places to come back to at the next appropriate opportunity. Yesterday was that day and we were not disappointed. Our server Anthony was very welcoming and enjoyable, the staff filled our waterglasses endlessy, (like 7 or 8 times each) and we never had to ask. We ordered appetizers and they were delicious and came out in a very reasonable amount of time. The main courses definitely required some time but the food was delicious and the presentation was beautiful, well worth the wait.My wife and I shared the Puerquito which is a Pork dish with rice and beans and plantains. The pork was "fallen' off the bone" (just the way I like it). We all thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food, ambiance and wonderful service. I would heartily recommend it to anyone who wanted a delicious cosmopolitan NY Experience.
Food was absolutely amazing! So so so so so good! Perfect for a quick lunch date and even better for an evening dinner date. The atmosphere/ music was fun and the decor was amazing. Our waiter Euri was so accommodating and super nice! The best best service! We will definitely be back for the amazing food and great people like Euri! It was my first time here and it will not be my last! A MUST try when you are in New York!!!!!
This place is a pricier than most others on Dyckman for sure. However, it’s a great place for date night or a special occasion. I can’t remember what this dish was called but it was incredible and made at least 2 meals for me. Some sort of fried sea bass stuffed with shrimp, calamari, cheese, etc. in a cream based tomato sauce I think. I am lactose intolerant and I have no regrets haha
I have been to this location for years and the vibe, food and decor gets better and better with every visit. Drinks are corona (ice cold) and a mango mojito. I had the penne with chicken, other plate is chicken mofongo. DELICIOUS!!!! service was great, attentive staff, spotless utensils, music was good with a live dj. Hookah available.
I do not know her name but I went on a weekend visiting from Connecticut and the girl in the front was kind enough to let my friends and I go in although we were not in dress code. I appreciate that! Food was amazing. Music too! Amazing staff too that took our order! Very accommodating !
I had an amazing experience here today. There was a minor mishap with the steak that I ordered. However, they took immediate action to correct it. The service we received from the bartender Jonathan was extremely friendly and attentive. We even had freshly brewed coffee made for us at the end of our meal. 😊
Had an amazing time here thanks to Euri! He was very attentive and made sure our party had a great time. I’ll definitely come back!
1st time here to celebrate a friend's birthday. When we arrived, they were just starting to decorate for Christmas. The atmosphere was great and the music was good. However, at times, it was hard to hear. The staff were friendly, accommodating and made us feel welcome. The food was fantastic but all the appetizers filled me so I took my steak dinner home. I had 3 drinks with the lychee martini my fav and the coconut mojito my least favorite. We wanted Pina Colada, but it wasn't frozen 😔. Hopefully next time, it will be. Anthony, our sever did well with the 10 of us. I will definitely go again. It was a fun night.
Great food and buzzy Latino vibe. Expect (loud even outside!) music, as the fun well-dressed crowd passes by their patio cafe. Love their appetizers, especially the plantains stuffed with crab and the croquettes. The paella, salmon stuffed with crab, and lechon are always good.. And the sangria and mojitos, a winner.
Came for lunch with my daughter and ordered the Puerquito. One service was enough for both and it was delicious. The “Cuerito” was crispy and right on point. We also ordered the Mojito de Coco and the Sangría Mamajuana. Very delicious! The service was decent and polite. Totally recommend if you’re in the area. The restaurant is very nice.
Came here for happy hr since Papasito was closed for renovations. I’m glad I did come here, I had a great experience. I was worried the mofongo wouldn’t taste authentic because it was so beautifully presented, but I was wrong. It was delicious as was the happy hr drink I had, I forgot the name but it’s Jack Daniels and fruit punch. The hookah was the best I’ve had in a very long time (40 cash). The server I had was great. I’ll be back soon 😊.
This was a great place to eat and chill. My girls took me here to celebrate my birthday. It turned out to be a beautiful day, so we ate outside. Our food was delicious and the service was great. There was some kind of event/concert going on that day, so the street was closed off, and we got to enjoy the music while we watched people go by. I will definitely go back. I recommend it!
Visited on a Sunday. We did the All You Can Eat buffet for $39. It included the unlimited drinks. Great vibe, and music. The music wasn’t too loud where we couldn’t hear each other and the food was good. Drinks were strong, no complaints. Our waiter was great! And there’s hookah available too. Just remember to bring cash if you don’t want to use the ATM. There was a few people celebrating their birthdays and Mamajuana certainly helps with the celebration. It was nice to see. Def recommend.
If you're a fan of authentic Latin American cuisine and killer cocktails, Mamajuana Cafe in the heart of Dyckman is a must-visit spot. This unassuming restaurant packs a punch with its flavorful dishes, and their signature chicken and rice is nothing short of a masterpiece. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with vibrant colors, friendly staff, and the unmistakable aromas of spices and slow-cooked meats. But the star of the show here is undoubtedly the chicken and rice. This is not your average chicken and rice. It's tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, and pairs perfectly with the fluffy rice and flavorful beans. It's a comfort food classic that's been elevated to new heights, and it's no wonder that locals and visitors alike rave about it. But it's not just the food that makes Mamajuana Cafe special. Their cocktails are expertly crafted, with a focus on fresh ingredients and unique flavor combinations. From their signature Mamajuana cocktail to the refreshing mojitos, each drink is a work of art in its own right. And if you're in the mood for something sweet, don't miss their homemade flan. It's creamy, decadent, and the perfect way to end a satisfying meal. But what really sets Mamajuana Cafe apart is the sense of community that you feel when you're here. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the vibe is truly authentic. It's not just a restaurant, it's a gathering place for friends and families to enjoy delicious food and good company. So if you're looking for a taste of Latin America in the heart of NYC, head to Mamajuana Cafe. You won't be disappointed.
The food was presented beautifully and it tasted absolutely fantastic. I’ve never tasted anything like this before and I would definitely come again. Everything was cooked to perfection!! The service we had was splendid and we were waited on by Francina and she made the experience incredible. She was extremely kind and I have absolutely no complaints!! Great job Mamajuana Café, I would definitely recommend everything here!!!❤️❤️
Food is delicious I went there to celebrate my daughters birthday. I ordered Pargo Rojo "El Original" It is the Crispy red snapper stuffed with crab meat mofongo in criollo lobster sauce. It was humongous good for 2 or 3 people, Im not kidding. The atmosphere is very good. Friendly staff. I have been going there for years and I still LOVE their sangria so yummy.

The food has excellent favor. The ambience is cool, you can have brunch here or even have a nice party scene depending the time you come.

Typical Dominican restaurant with traditional Caribbean dishes, also of course Merengue, Bachata, salsa and such rhythms playing in the background, although a bit too loudly.
Food and service are okay, but this is not a place you go to for the food or service. You go for the ambiance! After like 10 PM, a DJ plays on the weekends, and the bar gets packed. There's some dancing, some nights a lot of dancing. Oh, and it's family-friendly.
Slow service and we had problem with the bill but at the end the server foxed it.
Great Latin food and atmosphere. Prompt wait staff.. Drinks were spatacular. Lychee Martini was delicious.
*ON PANDEMIC* The place still keep its essence. With an amazing presentation and real Dominican taste, prices are well adjusted to the great quality they provide. Drinks and service on point, the only thing I found odd was that they haven’t been able to bring the hookahs back to the restaurant. Besides that, environment still suitable for family and friends gatherings. Hopefully with the pandemic going away, all goes back to normal.
Went for Sunday brunch. Unlimited food, mimosas, sangrias or jack punch. Make sure you’re hungry! It’s about $38 pp with taxes. If you don’t eat much then it’s not worth it but if you love to eat then this is your place. They had a good variety of food. The music was good (Latin mix). It was loud in there, which I don’t mind at all. It was very busy but we had made reservations online so there was no wait. Only thing I didn’t like was that it was one bathroom Men & Women together with 5 stalls- I’m not used to that.
Food was bomb, the Jack Punch pitcher is definitely a go to drink. Took off a star because when I called in whoever I spoke to explained that hookah's are only outside not inside at the moment. Then when we arrived & I asked my waiter she said hookah's are not until after 12am due to covid regulations. Really was looking forward to trying out their hookah but maybe next time.
There are sushi options for everyone, even for people who don't like sushi. The food is amazing, all the entrees and appetizers are great. The restaurant atmosphere is like a lounger/bar. Good place for a night out.
I have been to a few of the other locations, so I was looking forward to this visit. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and was greeted by Leaha, and she was great. I sat and started with the limitless brunch, and the food on the buffet was good, and the sangria was ok. I was served by Yuri and Anthony, and they were great. I ordered the octopus for appetizers, and it was delicious! I then had the stuffed red snapper, and it was good but a little sweet! Lastly, I had the brownie dessert, and that was delicious! All in all I had a good experience!
Outdoor and indoor seating avaliable - very spacious. Our hostess/server Donna was attentive and answered all of our questions. Very relaxed setting for a Saturday afternoon. Good for all party sizes including families, dates or small groups. Passion Fruit Mojito pitcher was full of tropical flavor and enough for 4 drinks. Ordered a Henny Colada and it was really good but pricey. Food was flavorful. I recommend the Chicarrones, Rabo or Paella. There's hookah available but didn't get to order it this visit.
Let's just say my experience at The infamous Mamajuana was interesting. We got seated and while my party chatted waiting for our drinks and appetizers it started to rain so we had to run to the covered area of the restaurant. Yes, seating is outdoors and no umbrellas 😡. Ok with the outdoors part but damn you can't invest on umbrellas, smh. Nonetheless, while we waited for the rain to stop; the manager was talking about shutting down while we wanted our food to go. At first she didn't want to take our order because she said she had to close the cover we were under. Mind you it wasn't just my party under it. It was good 10 patrons that were under it as well whom were there before us waiting on their food. So we decided to wait it out because first of all parking is a true luxury by Mamajuana and if you're not lucky to find one on the street be prepared to pay for one at a garage. Once, the rain passed and sun was peaking out the clouds the waitors wiped down the tables and chairs. We sat and finally placed our order for drinks and food. We had a paella, snapper stuffed with seafood and tres leches cake for dessert. The food was amazingly delicious the portion is actually for 2 people, as you can imagine the amount that we took home for that second serving, 😆 🤣. Bon appetit Mamajuana patrons!

I was late in joining my party three Saturdays ago. Dude in black shirt was bothered, especially when I asked for utensils. It was empty there and if I had noticed I would have gotten it myself. He acted as if I was bothering him and I just gave up. Similarly, he didn't offer water or any service, whatsoever. The kid in the peach shirt was muuuch better and cordial so that's why the service score was this high. Food was very appetizing and reasonably tasty.
Came over with my family to the (DYCKMAN LOCATION )as soon as I came in the hostess didn’t greet us properly or anything also was forcing me to take a seat I didn’t want to take because the table was moving a lot ,she pretty much gave me no option or any other choice her attitude was like take or leave it I don’t care,I guess maybe she is not the hostess maybe she is the owner or family of the owner or who knows but such a rude attitude is unacceptable and makes you feel you pretty much are getting charity if you are not a people’s person what are you doing working in a restaurant and even worst welcoming people, her negative energy and vibe literally ruined my night ,till finally I got service from MARGARITA an awesome waitress and ALEXANDER ROCHA who apologized for the inconvenience and went right away to prepare awesome and delicious drinks for us,as far as the food you need to specify how your dishes are coming out! And ask me if I want my steak with gravy on it and other stuff (AS YOU CAN SEE ON MY PIC ,STEAK SAUCE OR BBQ OR WHATEVER THAT WAS) And no! I do not like to have gravy on it! Don’t and won’t eat it with its neither pico de Gallo on top of my steak! I would appreciate to be asked this before and also to have whatever sauce served separate ,and by the way the pico the Gallo was not fresh bummer,I asked for a Sirloin Steak And was full of fat like literally full of fat! Wich I had to send bagk,I mean common guys for what you guys charge?I’m expecting the best,Thanks.
Average food on the best of days. Last time I was there- tried the vegetable soup. Have to say it was one of the strangest looking soups I've encountered- basically diced veggies in broth(see pic). Depending on even you go, Hookah vendors can be annoying at times. As a late night party spot , it's decent.
Average food. The pasta was undercooked, the food was average in terms of taste, and the menu is limited. The wait time was insane, nearly an hour and 10 minutes waiting. The music is too loud, but the service from the waiters was exceptional. Not for me.
The food was really good. My only problem would be , the server was given the check and never asked if we wanted change. Even though the extra $$ was for her, it is proper etiquette. Other than that, it was fine.
I've been to the Bronx (East Tremont) location a few times and this was the first time here. I feel there should've been a brunch or bottomless option, especially on the weekend. I ordered the empanadas as an appetizer and the mamajuana paella as an entree with a pitcher of passion fruit mojito, everything was good but the portions could've been adjusted a bit better. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and I'd return to experience their Sunday brunch.
This restaurant used to be amazing, now not so much. Wait time is long-- even if there's no one there. The food tastes bland; We got the fried red snapper and the churrasco with chimichurri sauce, which I only ordered because of the sauce and we got a completely different red sauce topped with what seemed to be diced garlic, red pepper and onions-- not a traditional chimichurri sauce. When I asked about the dish they just kept repeating that was a chimichurri sauce. I'm ok with chefs getting creative but don't label it on your menu as chimichurri when it's not. The fish was just ok. The batter and fish tasted like breaded fried chicken. I've tried to give this place a few extra visits to see if it was just a night off but it always disappoints. They used to have a nice touch in the past where they gave you a complimentary shot of Mamajuana after your meal. We spent over $100+ and left regretting our visit. This was my last time dining here. The only plus to this restaurant is the portion size which is good for the price, but then again that's the norm in Inwood/ Washington Heights area. Also, note that the vibe here is loud. People smoke hookah inside and the music is blasting. If you're not looking to party 100% skip this place. I recommend leaving "restaurant row," and heading to the restaurants a block away right in front of Tryon Park....so much better food and service with still an upbeat atmosphere.
I had heard about this restaurant from multiple people and wanted to try it out. Went there with a friend on Tuesday night. We made reservations, but it was not needed. The place was only 1/4 full. We got seated quickly and a woman came around and took our pictures. They looked good and I bought one. The food service was comically slow and the wait time between plates needs to be shortened. I ordered the penne pasta with chicken and enjoyed it and rhe tres Leches dessert was to die for! I'd go back just for the dessert!

I went recently for Easter to celebrate having brunch with all my family and to start the food was really poor NO MEATS like they used to have, only chicken and fish , potatoes, cheese, salami food that when i was trying to go and served myself the chafing dishes were empty and to charge $45 plus tax for brunch was absolutely no worth it for the price the charge, no even desserts. I think it was too much, i used to love go there but no anymore, It was my last time. It is very sad to loose a good place with good food like used to be. DEFINITELY I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. By the way my reservation was at 1:30 it was supposed to be plenty of food at this time also the food space was completely reduced.
The food was average. However the service was horrible we had to get our table changed three times because we were a party of five and we were sat at a table for a party of four. We weren't even given water our drinks were warm we had to request for ice. We had to ask a random waiter because ours was busy at the bar mingling with coworkers. Save your time and order your food to go.
I had such high hopes for this place, but ended up being disappointed. We ordered the calamari, mashed avocado with the fried cheese and the chicken to start. The calamari was undercooked, the chicken was a bit greasy. For my main I had the fried fish which was very fishy and a bit watery, it seemed like they put two pieces of fish together and just had the head on it. Overall they were very pricy, the gratuity was too high for a party of two and we were charged a fee for using our credit cards. The service was mediocre, it's like they know they charge a high gratuity so they have to be hands on. At one point we waited over 20 minutes to order our drinks. I will not recommend or go back!

I specifically went up to the waiter and asked her to make my burger medium rare, gave it to me well done, was taking forever with our stuff when the restaurant was empty & didn’t have things that were advertised on the menu. Terrible all throughout
The food is tasty, but always cold. Service was poor: two waitresses for over 30 tables, most of the tables full. It took a long time for the food to arrive. You can't speak loud enough to be heard by the person next to you, hookah, everywhere. And it is just a neighborhood bar. Ambient: Come here in sandals. Please don't make an effort to dress up unless it is on the beach or see thru clothing. It was expensive for the poor quality of service, food, and limited variety of liquor in the bar. The food was. Cold. The drinks have more juice than anything, and the shots are $10 for three tablespoons of liquor. Don't try to get a martini herr: straight catering for beers, popular liquor brands, and a lot hookah. It was so different from the restaurant I experienced before, something changed. There are other selections of restaurants in the area, give it a try.
waited an hour for food and then was automatically added a tip despite the terrible service. Hostess never checked on us, apologized, nor even offered a discount for the terrible service and long wait. Do not come here
They fry fish in the same oil they fry chicken or something because I kept ordering chicken and it kept tasting like fish but they wanted to argue with me about it. The servers don’t pay attention to you unless you’re a man popping bottles. Place is super mid.
Came here for brunch. It was the absolute worst experience I had. It wasn’t busy at all & the server barely checked on us. We continuously had to ask for refills on the bottomless mimosas & the server treated us as if we were bothering him. The food was burnt & the atmosphere was not welcoming at all. On top of that, they automatically add a gratuity of 18% even if the service is horrible due to the “brunch rules & requirements”. That is not on the receipt, only word of mouth by the server.
I came with my family to have a great time but what I encountered was a simpleton overpriced menu, who in the world would have a $14 hotdog? Jesus … anyway after being completely disappointed at the menu decided to have a drink to drown my sadness so when I ordered the whooping $33 two frozen margaritas I almost jump in the Hudson, that was just juice … the only thing worth it it’s the view.
Just came to this restaurant for Mother’s Day and unfortunately the experience was bad. The buffet was bad. Very greasy food, not as warm, and not flavorful. 4 out of 5 people had a stomach ache after leaving. Mangu at 2:30pm as an option? Our waiter never came and checked if we needed anything after coming once. Asked her for water she forgot, had to ask her again. and her energy did not have any hospitality. The syrup used to apply on the waffles was full of syrup on the outside of the bottle. Couldn’t even grab the bottle without getting syrup on your hand. Multiple toilet seats were filled with piss all over the seat. A rather poor operation and management should really work to improve the quality of the food being served, bathroom cleanliness, and having the servers be a bit more welcoming.
We were there for brunch with the family, by far the worst service I ever had in a restaurant. We self-service our food since the brunch is buffet style, the waiter a young guy came to our table once and I never saw him again. I asked for a mimosa for my mother since she’s not a heavy drinker and that was all the service he gave us. Not even water was given to us during our visit. I went out of my way to find him and asked him for some items for dessert to order since the brunch menu only had a fruit selection. Then I went out of my way to find him again and asked for a cup of ice since my mother’s drink had watered out, never received what we asked for. The brunch includes one hour of sangria or mimosas, she had that one glass and nothing else. If it wasn’t for an older gentleman who helped us even though he wasn’t our waiter that evening would’ve been a disaster. He Gave us the menu and helped us with what we needed at that time, served my mother coffee and was pleasant to us. Going out with your family should be a pleasant experience. I will stick with the restaurants we usually go to. To my surprise the place wasn’t crowded since it was a rainy afternoon, so there is no explanation as to why he behaved this way. Never again!!
First time in this establishment and I was really hoping to enjoy it . Um the food has good seasoning but for some reason is cold and they use to much vegetables I guess not to use a lot of meat or rice. Um it’s very pricey for small portions the drinks are okay not the best . The waiters are bored and don’t wanna be bothered the music is good but for some reason the other establishments have better music . I wouldn’t spend 200 dollars they’re not worth it on food . Drinks and hookah okay but not on meals . Never again.
Worst food I've had in a long time, maybe ever when I really think about it. Ordered a mofongo and its wasn't that even in the slightest. It was just a dry non seasoned mangu with the chicken and peppers and everything else on a separate plate that I had to add myself like a science experiment. And even with the "add on" the food was horrible, dry and bland. The mangu tasted like it was out for days. The chicken cesar salad was just a overstuffed bowl of just lettuce. My partner ordered the churrasco and there was more onion than meat. As if they put a slither of meat on there, something I've never seen in ANY restaurant that serves churrasco. This was the worst representation of Hispanic food I've ever seen in my life and honestly they need to stick to just being a bar and hookah spot. Next time id rather starve than ever consider this disgusting food again. Wasted money I'd rather get back.
Food was great, service was good. But I got charged $29.00 dollars auto gratuity for two people having late night dinner and drinks only because their policy if your bill is over $100 , its automatic gratuity.
The chips for my guacamole were insanely stale. The steak in my steak salad was cold. The lettuce in the salad was drowned in avocado…. I couldn’t taste the dressing or the salad and didn’t even eat the salad because it was all sticky and chunky because of all the avocado. Truly disappointed because I’ve been coming here for years. I order 2 of the same mojitos and both tasted differently. One had more lime and liquor than the other. Idk what is happening here but I’m calling my bank for a refund asap.
