Consistently good food. This is the only Peruvian barbecue chicken that my wife would eat. We have similar places closer to us but we go farther just to eat Caravan chicken.
Super solid chifa spot. Their pollo a la brasa is reliably good and their chaufa, beans, maduros, aji, etc. are always tasty. Ambience is basic but tidy, and the food, while nothing outta this world, is a safe bet every time. Prices for New York are more than reasonable.
DELICIOUS! Not sure why they call themselves “Chinese American restaurant”. This is Peruvian style food and it’s amazing ! Their chicken is so flavorful, not dry, and their rice is addictive! They only offer takeout or dine in.
The chicken is moist, tender and delicious. You won't be disappointed. The price is affordable. Love this place.
The food is really good and fresh will definitely come back staff is very friendly ! Anyone complaining is just complaining deff a go to spot for me and prices are really good!
Listen yeah. Chicken is wet. Flavors of pure joy.. The avocado sauce is ridiculous. Great pairing. Fried rice so good. Put duck sauce on it. It's heaven. Best chicken I've had in my city. Fave spot to eat at.
One of the best pollo a la brasa in NYC! Two things to know, cash only and they’re closed on Mondays. It’s a no frills place, don’t expect a fancy restaurant. I recommend eating in, the service is quick and casual. Green sauce is top notch.
Their Chicken & Ribs are outstanding and the gentleman that work the counter and the tables in the back are really great. Not to mention their other Specialties on the menu. I recommend them in a heartbeat thank you keep up the good work!
Generous portions and juicy chicken. Highly recommend it.
If it's your first time trying their chicken, don't worry you came to the right place. I wasn't sure what kind of restaurant it was at first either chinese take out? Rotisserie chicken?. The people working there are kind and always working, going back and forth from the counter to the tables. Don't know what to get? You should definitely try their 1/2 rotisserie chicken with the fried rice and salad. There is a perfect drink that goes with it, the passion fruit juice! The green sauce that comes with the meal is refillable if you dine in. If you have a to go order, you might need to order some extra green sauces on your way out. You won't be disappointed since the sauce goes well with everything. The chicken was juicy with the lightly crispy skins. The salad balanced out the richness from the rest of the plate. I had about 3 glasses of the Passion fruit drink/juice, it was an awesome meal. I was super full and happy.
Best roasted chicken, chicken fried rice, house fried rice, plantains and green sauce that is my favorite! I love this place! It has A rating and A+ for great food! Great prices. I’ve been coming here for twenty plus years! It is still the best. Highly recommend this 5 star nice simple corner in the heart of Astoria restaurant.
I grew up eating here until we left the country in my late teens. Our family has always had a warm place in our hearts for this cute place and it’s amazing food. We talk about it every single time we bring up NYC. I’ve talked about it with every person who’s ever asked me about my time in the City. Back in the day every celebration was a Caravan Chicken-kind-of-day :) Once we left, whenever someone would visit NY it was their duty to bring back some chicken fried rice and some of their famous homemade green hot sauce… I had the privilege to visit it once again after so long and can’t believe the taste hasn’t changed!!! I couldn’t hold back a tear after the first bite… It truly is food for your soul. It brings back all the warm memory’s of simpler times… My family has had many discussions trying to guess the ingredients of their home made green hot sauce, the stuff of legends. Although you can’t go wrong with their menu I had to try a classic first, and go for the chicken friend rice. Tears of joy with every bite. So simple, so good, so warm. Pure bliss. To say that I can’t wait to be back isn’t quite enough to explain my excitement to plan another trip. Places like these that feed so many, for so long with such good food and keep traditions alive should go on forever. With love, your biggest fan. Manuel
Quick food, reasonable pricing in this ever inflating economy. Fast, friendly service and staff. You know exactly what to expect from a joint like this 👍
One of the more interesting menus in the neighborhood. I ordered a whole chicken, spare ribs, and fried rice. All of them were well prepared and excellently seasoned. Nothing was stellar or spectacular, just solid. The chicken was probably my favorite because it was juicy all throughout. The spare ribs were good, but they could definitely use some kind of sauce or glaze to take them to the next level, though i would have no issue making a sauce on my own. The fried rice was classic NYC Chinese-style fried rice. Again, not amazing but solid.
The best fried rice & rotisserie chicken in NY! They are so nice and super fast and all their food is outstanding 💯‼️ Try the ribs and sweet plantains also. You will thank me later.
This establishment has been open for many years and serves excellent food at inexpensive prices compared to other restaurants in town. The rotisserie chicken is delicious, and the lomo saltado is very tender and flavorful. There are many more dishes to try; it's definitely the best food around. I highly recommend it!
Everytime I come to this restaurant, the servers make you feel right at home. The resturant is family friendly and is also a very comfortable environment. And of course the food is fantastic, as well as the prices. All around, it's a win win at the Caravan👍🏻
No one beats their chicken or ribs! Absolutely delicious food every time!
Great home quality food. The chicken, ribs and rice are delicious. They have home made juices and their soup is good as well (warm and healthy-veggies). They finally accept credit cards.
It turns out they are the BEST! have you ever eaten at Pecking BBQ IN Woodside? Well this is the same owners!!! Sometimes even the same cooks work at this location!!! The food is unbelievably delicious! Best thing to order is there chicken and ribs combo! If your really hungry you'll finish the whole thing but usually you'll have food for at least 2 to 3 days for a great price!!
Food was fantastic. Ribs were generous and big. Chicken was juicy and with the right seasoning. As a Peruvian, this is the spot I go the most when Im in queens.
If you want some finger licking chicken, delicious rice with a side of beans and salad come here! Your tummy will be so happy. I love coming here and the service is excellent. They’re the sweetest people definitely tip!! I ordered one time here for catering and my guest loved the food . 😋💕
Saw this girl Post about this place on Instagram and for real she wasn't wrong the food is really good not greasy the chicken White meat is perfect and the fried rice is good the restaurant is not a fancy one but the service is good only 1 waiter but that guy was fast and attentive. this place is one the few old school spots for Chinese Peruvian chicken great food
Love this place, been coming here for years the food and the price is so good. Really recommend 🫶
Best rotisserie chicken I've had my NY. Also get the green sauce.
Somehow even better than the reviews make it sound! We had just visited Peru a few weeks before visiting, so our expectations were sky high, and were massively exceeded! It's a proper local spot, too - no unnecessary faffing about with shiny decor or viral frills. Unreal rotisserie chicken and pork fried rice - the chicken was possibly the best rotisserie I've ever had. The green sauce is is also just as good as people say - don't miss it. Plus, the Chicha Morada is authentic and delicious, a must order.
Delicious food/big servings. Clean and cool atmosphere. The staff is very nice and there's always someone cleaning/tending to the customers that are eating. Love it!
I've been coming to this place since I was 15 I am now 38 years old. My father introduced me to this place because we used to go to a dentist around the corner who no longer is there because he passed away the memories this place instilled upon me and my family is unspeakable. The customer service every single time we go there is top-notch the food is beyond explanation. The quality of the chicken and fried rice, not to mention that secret delicious green sauce that goes on the rice you mix that up with an Inca Cola beverage and its The Perfect Storm. This food is amazing I only wish there was one around the corner from my house but it is worth the hour and 15 minute drive we take every time we go there we love the food I just realized this whole time that I've never left a review for this place. If I could give it a hundred Stars I would this food is amazing as I'm speaking to you we are going there! We love you Caravan Chicken! P.S they also have a similar location in Woodside if you get the urge to go on Mondays it is called Peking BBQ.
Only one downside I don’t know if it’s only for takeout, but the portion sizes are very small
The best chicken i've ever ate rotisserie with the spare rib combo. The rice is a little bit blend. But the salad makes up for it
I love this place. Inhave been going to this place since i was 8years old. I am 33 now. This place has great rotisserie chicken. One of the best i have had in NYC. I love trying different places for food. Howevee, when it comes to chicken, lomo and fried rice... This place is the best! The waiters are also super nice and friendly. They go beyond for you. Please don't forget to tip them... They do such a great service. There is another place by the same owner in 58 street woodside. I honestly am not a fan there. I use to go there when i was 6 years old to 8years old. When i discovered the owner had a place in Astoria I would come to astoria. This place is legit great! Like a hole in the wall great food!!! I def recommend it!!!
You can’t go wrong for the price. The chicken is always so moist and juicy. 5 stars all around!!!
I don’t even know where to start when it comes to explaining how delicious this chicken really is. The tenderness, marinating and flavors that are in each bite are truly unique to this place. Words can’t describe how good this chicken really is. People complain about the service and how slow they are. Listen for this chicken its worth the wait. The attitude you may have gotten at the register would be forgotten once you bite into this chicken. The rice ain’t nothing to write home about, beans are mediocre and the sweet plantains are very delicious. Even with the mediocre side dishes I still make this a must everytime I’m near this restaurant.
Very tasty and generous portions with the quarter chicken + side combo. Friendly staff makes you feel at home.
My family used to live in Astoria, circa 2002~2008. This was one of our favorite places, & my parents knew the owner back then quite well! He was/is a Peruvian Chinese man, & there are still some Chinese Spanish speaking cooks, so I think that explains why the chifa inspired menu here is so good. I came back for the first time a year or two ago, & returned yesterday with an elderly white friend who had never tried Peruvian food. The place has downsized a bit in comparison to what it was in the 2000s (it was always small tho), & has gotten more simple (for ex, guests now have to order food at the counter, & the nice divider between tables that used to be in the back is gone, & the food portions are smaller & have slightly fewer ingredients); but it still has the same essence that it had 20 years ago. Flavorful & juicy dishes that are still reasonable/good prices, a handful of chifa style menu items that are hard to find in most Peruvian restaurants, & quick + polite service. A nice cherry on top is that the Chicha Morada is still homemade! My friend's face lit up as she tried the pollo a la brasa, lomo saltado, the wontons & the sauce, & especially upon trying the Chicha. Astoria is vastly different from the neighborhood it was when I was a little girl, to the point I have actively avoided visiting or befriending any of the young upper-middle class people that live there now as an effort to preserve the home I knew; but it was so comforting to see Steinway is mostly the same, & it especially warmed my heart to experience delectable food at this neighborhood staple again. TLDR; If you have the opportunity to eat here, order a mini feast & enjoy a full tummy for the rest of your day! They accept credit cards!! It won't be the most delicious Peruvian food you can find in Queens nor does it have any cute or pretty vibe by any means. But if you want a quick bite, this is worth trying.
Went here with my family. The food was very affordable. It’s a cash only establishment. You order and pay upfront. From there, you can wait for to go orders or garb a table to eat there. We chose to dine in which was good. They gave us so much food, I just can’t imagine the to-go experience being better than dining in. Everything we ordered was hot and flavorful. Please ask for green sauce (don’t know what it’s called). I had chicken , beans and rice with salad. Chef’s kiss!!
Here you would find a fusion of Peruvian+Chinese cuisine, there is nothing fancy about Caravan, this a very casual restaurant however, they always keep the food flavorful & very tasty. This is where you go to eat when you want comfort food & you know you are going for sure to eat a filling meal, I feel like their portions have gotten somewhat smaller over the past year yet they are still generous. Usually there is a line for ordering ( to stay or take out) but it runs pretty fast and you can find a table available within 5-10 mins wait, service is fast & friendly and be prepared to bring cash here as they don’t take credit cards. My favorite dishes from here are the rotisserie chicken with fried rice & salad, aguadito, chicken & broccoli, house special lo mein and the ribs.
This is the spot for Peruvian rotisserie chicken and pork fried rice!! Its really good and they still have great prices. Will always come back
I’ve been coming here for many years and it never disappoints — the flavor is always consistent and the service is great. Be prepared to wait because it’s always packed whenever I go. Totally worth it.
Absolute staple here in Astoria, Queens. They've been opened for as long as I can remember and been serving the best Peruvian/Chinese food you can find. The Lomo Saltado is to die for (with fried rice) and you can never go wrong with the rotisserie chicken and rack of ribs. Their green sauce is a must with any dish. I highly recommend this spot if you are in the Astoria area!
I tried the 3 Pc. Spare Ribs and 1/4 Chicken with Pork Fried Rice ($21). The chicken was extremely juicy and tender, and seasoned super well. The ribs were also moist, seasoned, and flavorful. The addition of the salad and rice were a nice compliment to the meat. The portion sizes are generous too, and this could be two meals if you’re not super hungry. Though this isn’t the best food I’ve had, this spot hits its niche perfectly. It’s a no-frills spot that offers delicious food at an affordable price. Would definitely come again if I want some quick casual food to eat.
the rotisserie chicken and green sauce is amazing! it has stayed consistent throughout the years! be prepared to wait for your order for more than 20 minutes, especially on the weekends!
I’ve been coming to eat here for 39 years. The chicken is constantly fresh and flavorful. It is fast paced and always busy. Sometimes I can’t get through on their phone line but the wait is worth it😀I recommend try the lomo saltado .
I've been getting chirped on my IG/Tiktok for never branching out of Manhattan or Brooklyn... lowkey a fair criticism though so I gotta take it on the chin. My homie, who lives in Astoria, has been hyping up Caravan Chicken for the past 6 months. "Bro you gotta try my chicken spot I swear..." This past Saturday, our schedules finally aligned. After a 52 minute journey on the N train, I arrived at what I could immediately tell would be an all-time Chicken spot: The uniquely Latin American smell of fresh roast chicken hitting your nostrils as you open the door, an overhead menu straight out of 1999, signs in both Spanish and English for "No Comida ni bebida del afuera", yellow walls littered with Peruvian decor, table seating in the back, and a worn in industrial kitchen with Latinos working overtime. What else can you ask for? I went with the half chicken with pork fried rice and a salad ($13.50). I'm normally a yellow rice kinda guy, but the pork fried rice seemed to be their thing. This chicken exceeded my expectations, which were in the stratosphere at this point. Perfectly charred and seasoned skin, and tender juicy meat (haha) accompanied by a Peruvian green sauce that was to die for. It's damn near at the top of my roast chicken rankings in the city. Casa Adela still my p4p #1 though. The pork fried rice was good, but didn't blow my mind. Should have stayed true to myself with the yellow rice, but I'm trying to grow as a human being so I regret nothing. I'll probably get chirped now for "only going to Astoria... these food influencers never set FOOT in Jackson Heights..." but that's okay, I'll get there. I take pride in proving people wrong, and proving myself right. Shoutout to my guy Marinos for the Caravan Chicken rec. I'd be here 2x a week if I lived close. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews
The atmosphere is like a fast food chinese restaurant but the food is 100% Peruvian and delicious. Best roasted Peruvian chicken and good rice and ribs.
Good local spot! I use to get the ribs with rice and beans. Their ribs are delicious. The quality of it can be inconsistent it overall really good. They’re a little skimpy with the beans but for the price your paying it’s a great meal 😁. Idk what the complaints are about service… just place an order and get your food… done
Food is always great here. It's well-seasoned and the meat is tender and moist. The soup tastes like homemade and very flavorful. Their own specialty sauce is awesome but if you ask for more extra sauce, you get charged for it. The price is not as affordable as it used to be. Don't forget your money, cash only. For about $34, I can only have 1whole chicken, 1 gallon of fried rice and a small soup. I used to be able to buy more for the same price. But at the end of the day, if you want good food, you have to pay more. Still, a good meal to be had if you're craving for a great roast chicken.
The best food ever. House special fried rice is the best. But charge extra .50 cents each mayonnaise side doesn’t make sense.
I found out about this place around 2005 through a friend's recommendation when I used to work in Long Island City. I hadn't been there in many years. I just visited again and the food is still great. The spare ribs are delicious.
My go to rotisserie spot! Lines can be too long depending on the time of day.
A small mom & pop shop with seating towards the back and Peruvian-Asian cuisine. They have a ramp entrance towards the back. Filling meals with great portions. 1 order pork fried rice with chicken and salad; 1 pork fried rice with ribs and salad; 1 water bottle; 1 order maduros (sweet plantains); 1 maracuya juice (passion fruit). Total: $44.61 for party of 2. Their juices are artificially flavored as opposed to home-made. This applies to their Maracuya passion fruit juice, and Chicha purple corn juice.
A food reviewer that I know of did a review of an Asian fusion place so it sparked an idea of where to go for lunch today. This place was only a 4 minute walk from the Blink Gym I frequent so not a hard decision to head there. Small gripe I'd have to address before I get to the meat of the review. I'd strongly advise paying cash at this establishment. They do have a card/cashless option but the machine they got is very dated. I initially used one of my cards with digital currency which doesn't have a PIN as a prompt, it should be instant access but it kept asking for a PIN and by how old that card reader was, didn't have the option to bypass that so I had to use my credit card, which I didn't want to at the time but went with it. Thankfully I didn't have the uncomfortable situation a lady after me had when she ordered her food by card, having an issue about being charged $45 for her food saying the card reader charged her a different price than what her order was initially supposed to be. Thank God my card wasn't robbed like that but for real, that place needs to invest in a newer and better card reader. Wow that was a lot I got out of my chest, I apologize that y'all had to read all of that before I got to the review, lol. Payment struggles aside, I got something simple, half a chicken w/ pork fried rice and salad. The rice is okay but it's nothing some hot sauce doesn't fix and the place has that in spades. Salad is salad, nothing more, nothing less but the Chicken is absolutely delicious. Pretty tender, juicy and none too dry. Well worth the $16 I paid it for. That also included the soda I picked, Inka Cola and it's absolutely spot on, definite recommend. Also the place in general, fairly narrow but plenty of seating, pretty middle of the road. You can get a good meal but do take note to bring some cash with you, so you won't have to worry about any card mishaps from their very obsolete looking card readers.
Large and flavorful plate for only 13.50. Well known spot by locals. The sauce is a little too watery but I can’t complain for the amazing price. Pro tip, if you dine in they will give you free sauce refills.
The food is pretty good but the lady that takes the orders (she may be the owner) is not very friendly, she rushes the customer and is a little rude in my opinion. I do continue to go because of the food but she needs to work on her customer service skills.
This local spot could be better. The chicken is ok. A bit dry for my taste but it sells fast. Service is ok. It’s always busy and long lines. I would come back to try other dishes.
I recently tried Caravan Chicken, drawn in by the promise of flavorful Peruvian-inspired dishes. Overall, the food was good, but I have to admit it left me a little underwhelmed for what I was expecting. The standout was definitely the ribs—they were tender, well-seasoned, and packed with that smoky, savory goodness that makes you want to order them again. Easily the highlight of the meal. The roasted chicken, a staple you’d expect to shine at a place like this, was decent. It had a nice crisp skin and was juicy enough, but the seasoning didn’t quite pop as much as I’d hoped. It was solid, just not memorable. Where things really fell short was the lomo saltado. The portion was disappointingly small, especially for the price. You’d expect a hearty mix of beef, fries, and veggies to justify the cost, but it felt more like a side dish than a main. The flavors were there—salty, tangy, with that signature soy kick—but the skimpy serving left me wanting more, and not in a good way. All in all, Caravan Chicken has some strong points, particularly with the ribs, but the experience didn’t fully live up to the hype. I’d go back for the ribs alone, though—those were worth it. Vibe: hole in a wall
Mid. Good portion at least. Great service. Filthy interior.
Very salty chicken - pork fried rice was ok but with very little meat.
The food is fair, if you want to take to go, if you want to eat in no tables available, the food takes to long, to get to the table, more then 30 mts for chicken and rice, and a 30minutes just to order, no way to order online, that is the price for a fresh roast chicken
Food is good but service Place is always busy but the staff can be rude I was waiting on a table for someone to pick my order I was told to order at the register but they wanted me to do the line This place always have a line and they do not care about your time
The rotisserie chicken is still delicious. I have no clue what happened to their rice. It taste/looks completely different.(soggy/mushy) Not satisfied with what they've done with it. The green sauce they give you with your order usually isn't fresh, some containers are half full and look used. Looks like whatever the dine in customer leaves behind they keep it and pass it along to the next customer.
Don’t get influenced by Instagram reviews. While the chicken is tender, it is far from the best in queens. Chicken was overly salty and the sauce was bland. Staff were rude and apathetic.
This is an updated review. Guys you’ve been an Astoria gem for years, but lately the low quality in the food is very noticeable with poorly cooked rice and overcooked/burnt ribs. Don’t jeopardize your quality like that because it’s not like the food is getting any cheaper.
My husband and I saw a reel post on facebook showing the Chicken and Ribs and it made us want to go and try the food. It said the best Chinese and Peruvian fusion chicken in Astoria, so we went for it to try something different and new. The Chicken and Ribs were tasty but okay, the rice was terrible though, no flavor at all, they gave us what was supposed to be a salad to compliment the chicken, ribs and rice but it was just iceberg lettuce with mayo-ketchup which was Meh. Service was good though, not a place to go out of your neighborhood to try for the first time. They need to step up their game with the white rice and pork fried rice, it was not good at all, especially for the price. Wouldn’t go back there, but you guys try it out.
I ordered chicken with pork fried rice. See any pork? The spare ribs were ok. Very expensive prices. I was mostly disappointed at the filthiness and disarray. This place is nothing like it used to be back in the days! They should seriously consider a renovation after so many years to clean this place up! Incredibly filthy.. What a shame.
Not Really a recommended place to go, I Ordered 4 different Combos, and it came out to almost $50.00 so I asked if they can give me some more salad dressing and a green sauce, and one guy replied "1 DOLLAR EXTRA" and instead of my doing a 3 stooges slap on his head, I just smiled and said..Its ok..No Thanks..but that $1. Lost him 4 customers as quick as they can say Spare Rib. Never Again I'll go there.
Update... so finally they implented pay by credit card at least there that... but man wth this place they dont answer the phone any more i cant even place an order by phone now. This place is being gentrified!!! New owner ship now !!!! And then need to start delivering!!! So sad this is my favorite place to eat but im disappointed to what it has become.. ive been coming to this restaurant since i was a little kid the customer service was great back then.. the food has always been good so apart from inflation and there meals being increasingly expensive and the smaller portions each time i go... my major complaint is the customer service.. so apparently they have a policy that your not allowed to dine in if you order by phone... the other day i was working wanted to eat there for lunch i didnt have much time so i called ordered and planned to sit and eat... they told me no and i must leave i cannot eat there even though the place was near empty i was appalled and shocked ive spent thousands of dollars eating at this place for them to not allow me dine in was very hurtful and disrespectful. This generation of customer service is horrible!!!
Bad customer service! They have too much money already to care about one customers… they have 3 locations in Queens (TOO BIG TO CARE!!). You call for a pick up order and they hang the phone in your face!! In the middle of the order.. Why they have a phone number in Google maps, why they even answer the phone If they don’t take orders by phone!? Really stupid and confusing… And all this was from the owner himself! Which is more disappointing… (Ricardo) For sure I have something clear! I’m not coming back..
I truly do not understand the hype around this spot. I’ve had better rotisserie chicken from the grocery store and it was cheaper. They don’t give enough green sauce either with your order. I live right next door and was really disappointed in the meal given all the glowing reviews.
I was really disappointed. The pork fried rice had absolutely no flavor—it was bland and nearly white. It tasted like plain rice with a few scattered pieces of meat. Even more concerning, I watched the chef prepare my chicken lo mein and was shocked to see him using his bare hands to mix the food. This made me completely lose my appetite. Definitely not coming back.
Rude and dirty inside. There was no one seating people, so I left after being ignored. I don't give my money to nasty people.
Terrible service. Made me wait an hour for my food. This place has gotten worse and worse with service. So Unprofessional.
This restaurant is a fraud. I went to buy chicken fried rice that was terrible, the chicken was missing, I found only 3 peaces of chicken. The Lomito saltado had very litlle meat. I never come back
Service is slow. Not the nicest people or at to least to me. They served 6 people ahead of me first (their # was ahead of mine). Waited long time, 20 minutes for something that is fast food / chickenLo Mein. This is not the first or second time like this. Food taste is nothing special. Will never waste my money or time there again.
The $18.00 Rotisserie chicken are now the size of pigeons. They won't lower the price, but they definitely shrunk the size of the chickens. Amazing!
