It’s on the quieter side which is perfect for catching up with friends. They also don’t rush you which is nice. Will definitely be coming back!

Some of the most delicious food I've ever had at a wine bar?! Everything was so distinctly flavorful and the neighborhood needed this. Love the space and the way they open the front on nice days - cannot wait to spend half my summer here. Oh and the brunch was also to die for, I am gluten free and my friend could not tell the difference between my food and hers.

R
Ricardo Ghigliazza

A hidden gem in the area! The atmosphere is beautiful, the food outstanding, and the wine list is curated with true Michelin-level care.

I cannot recommend this place enough! What an absolute treat! Stopped here after eating pizza next door at Mama’s TOO, and couldn’t have been met with a better environment and service. Temo, the mixologist responsible for the custom cocktails, provided us with not only incredible drinks (seriously, some of the best I’ve ever had), but also some fantastic conversation that was the perfect upliftment of spirits. Exactly what I was looking for on this evening night out with a friend. He was fantastic and has done a wonderful job curating the drink menu. We had the Bésame (nice and smokey flavor with some unique spice), as well as the Dragoncello (very tasty bubbly floral gin/processco), and the 1001 Nights (my personal favorite! smokey and fruity). Not to forget the tiramisu for dessert which was the perfect taste and texture. Had a good balance of sweetness with espresso - and the whipped creamed on top was extremely smooth. They had some wonderful looking bruschetta as well, but we stuck with drinks and dessert this time. Service was fast, and sat down at the bar immediately upon entry. Do yourself a favor and stop in ASAP!

With its inviting ambiance and expertly curated menu, it’s the perfect place for a relaxed night out. Highly recommend!

Was so excited to try this place since it’s been vacant for some years. Went on a Saturday evening with a girlfriend and had a great time! The space is beautiful & modern. Sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly, knowledgeable & attentive without being obnoxious. He offered great recommendations and tastings of wine that we were interested in. Ordered a couple cocktails, glasses of wine and a few plates to share. Everything was really good! Food was delicious! For reference, we got the Saffron Sour, Tel Aviv Garden, Shishito peppers, salmon dish, and the Moroccan flatbread. I would definitely return again. Praying this place lasts in the neighborhood. It’s a great addition!

Columns Wine Bar is a fantastic addition to the UWS! The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a stylish Mediterranean vibe that makes it the perfect spot to unwind. Our server, Marty, was attentive and friendly, and John, the sommelier, did an incredible job with wine recommendations—each pairing was spot on. The food was just as impressive; the kale salad was fresh and flavorful, the crudo was beautifully prepared, and the bruschetta was the perfect bite. A great spot for delicious food, excellent wine, and a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Stopped by on a Saturday night to catch up with a girlfriend. It was the perfect spot to have a few glasses of wine and split some share plates! Adam, the server, was so sweet and super helpful with his recommendations. We loved the salmon and the Moroccan flatbread! Can’t wait come back again, definitely a new fav on the upper west side.

D

The best waiters and customers service I’ve come across in a while. Spilled my entire drink on myself and they all immediately appeared to help/get me a new drink. Another drink was slightly messed up they fixed it immediately. The one note is it is by far the weirdest set up for a restaurant I’ve seen in the city. They don’t use their space well, there’s unused spaces and then overcrowded corners. And the icing on the cake was this insane table we were seated at. We were a party of 5 and we could’ve fit at least 8 people at the table. There was also a tree in the middle of it. Couldn’t hear the person across the table at all. But the waiters were playing along and made it clear that they had no explanation as to why there was what could best be described as fancy patio furniture inside this restaurant. Food and drinks were also delicious.

E
Elysa Safran

Lovely atmosphere, unique renditions of tasty tapas…best baba ganoush, olives, potato bravas! Gluten-free bruschetta that is delectable, and, any array of wines, beers, and interesting non-alcoholic drinks. Simply, a wonderful addition to the UWS! Worth the wait!

This is a great new spot on UWS with modern relaxed atmosphere. There is a great friendly Georgian mixologist who makes creative cocktails such as 1001 nights, and drinks with interesting ingredients. We had the salmon which was done to perfection, crispy Brussel sprout, and a special pasta dish made with pesto and pistachio! We will definitely go back.

M

A new wine bar in the neighborhood with great food. My husband and I sat at the bar and had cocktails, wine, food and a dessert drink. Timo was behind the bar and was much more than a bartender - he made exquisite beverages, perfect pairing suggestions and a delight. We are so happy to have this addition and will be back often!

J
Jessie Clyde

Rooting for this new spot! Drinks are wonderful thanks to an excellent bartender who genuinely cares about what you like. The papas bravas are the best I have had in the city - and maybe even in Spain. Atmosphere feels relaxed but vibey.

K
Kevin O'Shea

Very inviting ambiance, that bar is a beaut! The hostess was so warm and welcoming as were the rest of the staff, really great service. The food was delicous, that gnocchi.. to die for. The crudo was fresh and vibrant the wines were good. ( if you guys happen to add a Txakolina to the mix you wont get rid of me). Thanks Columns for a great evening and I'll probably see you next week! Cheers!

I was so impressed with this place! It is a great addition to the neighborhood with excellent food, ambiance, and service. Our server Marty was very attentive and the sommelier was very knowledgeable. They are also very dietary restriction friendly as all the options were either gluten free or could be ordered gluten free! I could not recommend this place more!

Fresh take on Mediterranean fare on the upper west side. The bar is spacious and the resident mixologist, Temo, is a proper delight. The drinks are inventive, the food is delicious (I recommend the tuna crudo, the hamachi—not pictured—and the pistachio pesto gnocchi).

Been there a few times in April and March after they just opened. I have to say the food is so good and unexpected to this area. Super fresh raw fish dishes with just the right seasonings. We had two of the Hamachi dish bc it was so delicious. Beautiful design, kind staff and great wines. Personally I wouldn’t order a cocktail there again, we tried a few times and it wasn’t the best. Definitely worth dining here though! Glad to have this new spot in the neighbourhood.

Love the whole menu! Everything is so fresh and flavorful. I especially love the patatas bravas and the branzino. The trío of flatbreads were delicious and so creative. The wine menu is exceptional and I loved my cocktail.

The food at this Mediterranean seafood restaurant was absolutely amazing. Every dish was rich in flavor, beautifully plated, and clearly made with care. Chef Akins truly has blessed hands; he went above and beyond to accommodate every food allergy at our table and made sure each of us was happy, comfortable, and well fed. His attention to detail did not go unnoticed. The owner, Josh, also checked in on us personally, ensuring that the hospitality matched the quality of the food, which it absolutely did. The service was amazing, the food came out timely, and the ambiance was beautiful. Everything from start to finish was flavorful, thoughtful, and memorable. I can’t wait to return.

Dining at Columns was such a memorable experience. The dishes were vibrant, beautifully presented, and full of flavor; you could truly taste the creativity in every bite. What stood out most was how thoughtfully the kitchen accommodated our dietary restrictions (gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free) without sacrificing creativity or taste. Every plate was still rich, satisfying, and absolutely delicious. The service felt warm and attentive from start to finish, with a pace that allowed us to relax and enjoy the evening. The ambiance added a special charm that made the whole night feel elevated. We were also celebrating a birthday, and the thoughtful acknowledgment from the team made the celebration feel personal, heartfelt, and extra special. Columns gave us an experience we won’t forget, and we can’t wait to return.

This place is an incredible win for the neighborhood! It’s beautifully decorated with comfortable seating and a large bar. Sharing plates are perfectly sized and really fun, especially the different kinds of bruschetta you can mix and match. Stuffed dates are divine. I appreciate that despite it being a wine bar, you can also go there for a proper meal and order all types of other beverages (cocktails, mocktails, ciders, coffee).

I just discovered this place by casually cause I was staying very close… the ambience is super comfortable, there is lot of details around, the music a perfect volume, the black napkins, the columns, the colors, big space and big bar, great selection of wines and a great service. I would love to thanks the sommelier (Jhon) for being a great host and helping me with my blind tasting. Next time I'm back in NY I'll definitely stop by for a drink.

This new wine bar that just opened up in the area is absolutely stunning! We really needed a place like this around here. The space is spacious and beautifully designed, creating a welcoming atmosphere. This restaurant/wine bar is spacious, bar is a decent size, there are many tables. There are large windows. You don’t feel cramped. It was somewhat busy on a Thursday night, but it wasn’t too loud - easy to carry out a conversation. Even if you don’t drink it is worth to come in for the food (especially if you are a vegetarian/pescatarian). All the dishes were elevated and worth their price. And the sommelier John is extremely knowledgeable. He actually has a degree in Enology and worked at the vineyards in New Zealand and Europe! My favorite wine was Lebanese red wine - very smooth and velvety. For the nourishment I tried marinated olives and bruschetta board. Excellent place!

Wonderful new restaurant in the neighborhood. Even though the space is large, it feels warm and inviting inside. The small plates served are delicious and filling - highly recommend the branzino, arancini (gluten free), crispy brussel sprouts, and bruschetta with brie and applebutter (it's to die for and can be made gluten free)! Their newer addition of weekend brunch has some wonderful gluten free options, too - highly recommend the buckwheat pancakes, and a side of the latkes with my all-time favorite spread, applebutter! They serve an expansive variety of wines as well as delicious cocktails and zero proof drink options. Very helpful and attentive bartender and servers.

Went twice this week - once for drinks & nibbles and once for brunch. Loved it!! The brunch griddle cakes were delicious. Excellent wine & cocktail selection. Many gluten free (celiac safe) options. Nice vibes, nice staff. It’s my new favorite uptown place. Will return. Highly recommend.

Our server Nat T was so sweet!!! Such a lovely and warm gal. Us girls felt so welcomed. Got a free desert too ?? 10/10 recommend to ANYONE. Also they have lots of phenomenal gluten free options that are amazing and don’t even taste gluten free. Prices are accurate for portion sizes too. Go!!!

Absolutely love the food, the atmosphere and the drinks!! I had an amazing experience at the bar Hilary and Quinn took great care of me, walked me through the menu and all of the offerings. I got a chance to speak to Messiah one of the chefs there and his hands are blessed!! 10 out of 10 it gives authentic New York vibes and I promise you, you will be back for more than just the food!!

Happy this place is here! It’s definitely a more elevated feel which the neighborhood needed. Some standouts were the perfectly crispy yet fluffy patatas bravas, the bright and balanced shishitos and the rice pudding which you don’t want to skip. I see some negative reviews in here that mention the lighting but this did not jump out at me so I’m wondering if they took this feedback and updated it before my visit. I agree they could use some background music, though! I would definitely go back.

Sound and lighting could use help, but the staff is great and the food is good. Fantastic to have this place in the neighborhood- we had a good time.

Nice wine bar. Good wine options plus other drinks. Didn't try the food. Nice place to meet up and have a glass or 2 with friends.

Atmosphere and staff terrific. Food needs more thought. Totally terrific eggplant dip and hamachi, but arancini and salmon (salty, too cooked) need thought. Totally enjoy this restaurant. I just hope they up the cooking. Definitely give it a try for wine and eggplant.

A fantastic addition to the neighborhood! This wine bar offers a thoughtfully curated selection of wines along with some creative, well-crafted cocktails. The menu may be small, but there is a good variety of items for shareables. The newly renovated interior has a great vibe—warm, inviting, and stylish. I’m especially excited to see if they renovate the outdoor back garden for the warmer months. A perfect spot for a relaxed night of wine and light bites!

I came here on a Friday night with a date. Unfortunately at 7:30pm it was too crowded to get a table. We returned an hour later and sat down. I ordered their black truffle martini, which I did not enjoy. I like a light truffle flavor in things like pasta or Shake Shack, but wow it was too strong and only got stronger the more I drank. Their cider options were a decent counterbalance.

Cute spot for tapas or brunch! Love how much is gluten free and the French toast really is as good as people say - but I’d skip the egg dishes (not really that great).

I'm always on the hunt for tasty gluten-free pancakes...and Columns Wine Bar serves it for brekkie! I had the Buckwheat Griddle Cake with apples / honey caramel-like butter. The pancake was light and fluffy sweetened by the apple topping. I still poured syrup all over lol! Others in my party had the Bruleed French Toast which looked amazing, and the toast & scramble. We all fought over the very tasty Patatas Bravas. Needless to say, we were quite happily stuffed. Who knew a wine bar can deliver delicious breakfast!

This was needed in the neighborhood. We are such a dead zone for higher quality dining. As of now, it’s quiet. An excellent mid week date spot that’s not chaotic and super chill. Service was spotty but I can only assume its newness is still a challenge to staff. The bites are solid. Ditto the adult beverages. The wine menu has yet to be explored but looks promising. Hoping their backyard will be equally impressive when it gets warmer. But most of all, I hope this cliques and stays the course with the stiffs in our neighborhood because I love & need options that’s walkable, Karen.

this is such a good brunch place on the upper west side, I’m so glad we stopped by on a rainy day, otherwise we would’ve missed out on an amazing brunch with extremely fluffy pancakes and this amazing eggs dish that reminds me of shakshuka

Almost a five star!! Will definitely return. Just not perfectly satisfied with the food. The waiter was so kind when we notified them a dish wasn’t great. The arancini and bruschetta are where it’s at though!!! And the Reisling was amazing.

This is a great addition to the neighborhood. Great food, creative dishes, lots of ,gluten free options, lovely atmosphere. The downside is that the waitstaff are not well trained. They just don’t know proper restaurant hospitality skills. Often they don’t know which menu offerings are available , have a laissez faire attitude and or stop by the table too frequently and interrupt conversation. Management : please train your bar staff and wait staff! If that improves you have five star restaurant.

The Ambiance of this restaurant is very nice. But they need some help as I was not greeted properly when I came into the restaurant. I informed them that I was just coming by to have a glass of wine. They pointed me toward the bar, the bartender was slightly rude not very accommodating and didn't really offer suggestions. I didn't want to sit at the bar staring in Miss unfriendly's face so I asked to be seated at one of the tables off to the side in the open space closest to the street. You could see that the waiter was a little annoyed that I chose to change my seat after I got my glass of wine. The place was quite empty so this shouldn't have been a problem . This place is cold. They are not very inviting they are not warm they are not helpful. I didn't have a meal so I didn't get as much interaction as if I would have sat down and had a meal but I did purchase a glass of wine I was at the bar and I was seated in another space so I think with those interactions I've made my decision to maybe never come back. And lastly they need to play some music this is a beautiful space right next door to one of the most popular pizza places in the area and their restaurant is right next door Just As Dead As It Wants To Be.

Was excited to try this new addition to the neighborhood, but left feeling pretty so-so and unlikely to return again. Food was pretty good, though the menu felt a little unbalanced. Service was great and we were well taken care of. The big problem with this restaurant (for me at least) is its ambience. I’ve never seen a space more ruined with poor lighting choices than this one. Lights were high, bright and cold as hell. There were a few warm track lights and pendants above tables against the wall, but everything else was a cold 5000k led. Please just pick a color temp and stick with it. I understand the need to go LED, but please invest in 2700k bulbs. The bright strip above the bar really highlights just how plastic that ivy is, and the pencil pendants are just heinous. The cold lightning temperature made the space feel vast and sparse instead of warm and cozy like a wine bar should feel. It felt more like the freezer aisle of a walmart than a wine bar. Warm, low level lighting, more textiles, and some warmer colors on the walls would fix this.

Was excited to try this place. Sat at the bar, which was uncomfortable. Chairs are too low for the bar height and the chairs are also uncomfortable. Food was decent - Brussels and potato bravas. Tried three different glasses of wine. They were all only ok. I will try it again but was desperately hoping for a good neighborhood place.

Much welcomed to the neighborhood but they need help! Ambiance is strange… lighting too high? No music. Bartender was a bit rude. Zero host to greet customers. Cold interior with dated furniture. Need help with the design of their branding, menu. Just feels like they need a bit more time and some consulting on fine details.

I've had great dinners here in the past and recommended it to friends, but our recent brunch experience was an immense letdown. I brought three friends from the neighborhood who were trying it for the first time, and the service was exceedingly bad. Food came out in parts — after almost 40 minutes the first two entrees arrived, the other three came a full 20 minutes later, and the two appetizers ordered to share came 10 and 20 minutes after that respectively. The manager was unhelpful and offered no explanations or solutions when we spoke to him. They only comped two coffees from a meal that included five entrees, two appetizers, and four coffees in all after the ordeal. Sadly, the friends I brought won’t return — and neither will I for brunch. When I was waiting for the bathroom before leaving, I heard the manager comping items for another table with extremely late items. Fiasco.

Apparently, you can't just go and sit at the bar for a drink, you have to reserve it, kinda weird for a bar. Seems like a good spot but weird vibe.

Made a reservation here tonight for my birthday… specifically, at 11AM, I made a reservation at 10PM for the DINING ROOM. We arrived at 9:53PM and are told that the kitchen is closed… why would you offer a reservation time for a dining room when your kitchen is closed? Only thing they had available were drinks, but we hadn’t had dinner yet and left to find food. They mentioned that they had called me to mention this, but I had gone to a Broadway show right before dinner and couldn’t answer, so I checked my missed calls — I was called at 9PM for a reservation I had at 10PM? The reservation was made 10 hours earlier, and you could’ve texted me much earlier in the day about how the kitchen would be closed, and no effort was made. Extremely disappointed, was really looking forward to trying this place as my birthday dinner.

I wish I could put 0 stars because of how horrible my experience was. I have been so excited to try this place and I am beyond disappointed. Unfortunately we didn’t even get to try the food bc we didn’t even get water after waiting 45 minutes. Not even greeted. My party and I tried getting the waiters attention numerous times, only to continue being ignored. We finally decided to leave after waiting 45 minutes and when I let the bartender know we were leaving he didn’t even look me in the eye and hardly apologized. I am really bummed bc I have celiac and was very excited to try their food.

During a previous visit, I had a very disappointing experience. I waited at least 15 minutes to be seated, during which time several waiters saw me but did not acknowledge me or offer assistance. Eventually, a waiter approached, and I said I was happy to sit at the bar. Instead of seating me, he turned away and began serving someone else. I later spoke with the manager, John, who asked me to follow up by email and offered two complimentary drinks on my next visit as a gesture of goodwill. When I returned and presented the email, I was told the offer could not be honored by a server because management had changed. I understand that staff and management changes happen, but written commitments made by management should be communicated internally and respected. Unfortunately, this made the follow-up visit disappointing as well.

I went for the first time and sat at the bar. The bartender was extremely rude. We ordered the drinks, and when he came back, we were going to place a food order. He threw the menu back at me and told me, "What do you want? I am busy." In a very annoyed tone, it is shocking he treats the customers so poorly and gets away with it. I requested to speak with a manager, and they never reached out.

The waitress/host was very friendly, but we ordered chai lattes and were told 10 minutes later they were out of chai. We ordered coffees and they were luke warm. We ordered eggs and potatoes and gluten free bread. About 15 minutes later we received our eggs and potatoes and they were cold. We were starving so we ate them anyway. Then we asked for the gf toast and were told they were out. Columns Wine Bar received rave reviews on the GF communities on Instagram. We were extremely disappointed and feel it was not worth the hassle to get their from NJ Penn Station. We will never recommend and never go back. Also, have stopped following on Instagram.
