Small setting, amazing flavor! Service is friendly. The gyoza with its sauce was a great appetizer. The Ramen here is one of the best I’ve had in a while. All cooking happens in front of you. Two larger tables (4 person) and 1 small (2 person) in the back, the rest of seating is on the chef’s bar where you can watch the magic happen. Loved the ambiance. Our kids (8 and 9) really liked the Toribro Paitan ramen with pork and seasoned egg.
Fine chicken paitan ramen in the city. Got the kakuni char siu pork bun as an appetizer. The soft bun with the amazing sauce and tender pork was out of this world. Paired with the rich chicken broth of the original ramen was just heavenly. Heard the gyoza is good, but that's for the next time. Its a very small hole in the wall restaurant offering some really good ramen.
My experience at Toribro was review worthy. Like others have said it is small, but they used the space very well. The atmosphere is great and you get to see your food cooked. I ordered the Toribro Deluxe Mega. The broth was amazing, the noodles were perfectly cooked, and the service was lightening quick! Go there!!!
When in NY I used to go to another place for Ramen, but COVID killed it. It prompted me to find a new place and TORIBRO was a perfect find! Authentic! Run by Japanese! This restaurant gives you a glimpse of Japan in heart of Manhattan. Food is prepared carefully as you order. Noodles cooked perfectly and the ramen broth rich with flavor! Add a Japanese beer 🍺 to the meal and enjoy! Staff is super welcoming and helpful. Cleanliness of the kitchen could be improved a little - thats the only Japanese standard I was missing a bit.
I came into TORIBRO thinking it was it's predecessor—Totto Ramen. I wasn't disappointed, the place is still excellent for ramen. I grabbed the spicy ramen which isn't actually all that spicy but a nice starting point for people who like spice. The tako Wasa is good and my friend really enjoyed his char sui and signature/original ramen. The service was really fast and you got to watch it be made if you're seated at the counter. I did enjoy that they take card unlike Totto, which made things a lot easier.
This is one of the best ramen places I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying in the city. The broth tastes excellent; despite still being a bit full from lunch, we drank every last drop. The noodles are nice and had a chewy texture. Pork belly chashu was a little less tender than I expected, but carried a rich flavor. The takoyaki were the best I’ve ever had. It looked like they were fried in a small pot, and they were excellently hot, crisp, with a fluffy interior. I also love that there were some pickled vegetables on the side to take a break with since the takoyaki were so rich. As for downsides, the price is a little high. The ramen was 16 at base and add-ons (such as the egg) can cost 2 or 3 dollars. The location’s waiting system is also a little weird: you sign a piece of paper and wait outside on the street as the staff prepare your table. Overall, a nice place for authentic-tasting ramen and I think I will visit again if I am in the area and am looking for some quality takoyaki and ramen.
Just around the corner from Ippudo on the West side, this divey and charming ramen shop serves up some of the best tori paitan this side of the city. The Toribro Deluxe Mega is the dream bowl, with an ungodly rich broth, a perfectly cooked ajitama (soft boiled egg), two delicious pieces of seared chashu, chunks of braised pork belly, and melty chicken meat scraps. The Miso ramen is also just as scrumptious. You don't have to go to the same spot as everyone else to get great ramen. Come to this sleeper hit of a joint. I promise you will not be disappointed!
Saw this recommended by someone on reddit, and now i need to find that thread again to thank that person. Some of the best Ramen I've ever eaten. Had the chicken paitan ramen and the spicy ramen with pork... Both were outstanding, as was the seaweed salad. Shall dream of that spicy broth for a few days, I'm sure. Would recommend this place to anyone living in, or travelling to, NYC.
I don't know what I'm supposed to expect, but whatever I had in my mind, it was perfect. Mostly counter serve spot— two person staff and amazing food. Highly recommend!
I had a great time stumbling upon this restaurant. It is small but if you're on a solo adventure or with one other I recommend. If you sit at the bar you get to watch the chef go to work and deliver you some delivered food. Ramen was very good, flavorful. I am definitely coming back! This is the Mega btw!
In the location that used to be the original Totto Ramen (which is now under new management at the other locations and frankly is much less tasty these days). Toribro is just as delicious and friendly as its predecessor in this space! Definitely go to this place instead of the lackluster competition.
Very Good! I was genuinely impressed. Small space so we sat at the bar. Anytime I see an open kitchen, I know I’m in for a good meal. I got the Pork Chra Siu Mayo Don. Rice bowl with shredded and sliced pork, scallions, boiled egg, pickled ginger, housemade mayo. Spicy sauce on the side took it to another level.
Small, narrow place with a few tables and a bar for several. Got lucky on a Saturday arriving around 1pm when it seemed place was clearing out. Was alone for a minute, then bam, the place was full around 2pm. All tables and half of bar were seated. Worth a wait though, if it comes to that. Just hope it doesn't. The octopus of Tako Wasa was fresh and slippery. Good stuff but too much Japanese horseradish in it for me. The Chicken Paitan Soup is mild and flavorful and one of best I've had of tens of hundreds. The Kakuni is so tender it melts in your mouth. Everything in the Deluxe Mega was mega great.
An amazing hole-in-the-wall find. It's very small and cozy, but be prepared to wait for a seat if you go on a weekend night. Great if you are alone and just want to sit at the bar with some delicious warm ramen. The spicy broth is not too hot, but very well spiced, and the chashu pork is well seasoned. The noodles are chewy. Get the added garlic paste for an extra punch of flavour. The takoyakis are great too. Definitely one to return to.
delicious ramen in a little hole in the wall spot. there are not a lot of seats, but we got there around 6 and there were still spots available. we got the mega ramen which comes with the half egg, pulled pork, garlic, and chashu… I would highly recommend this one or the one more loaded than this one (comes with a full egg). every element of this ramen was high quality and perfectly cooked- especially the broth, which was so rich for chicken broth. I would highly recommend if you are this area!
I tried this spot on Saturday and it is a VERY solid ramen option over on the west side close to Times Square, making it perfect for an easy pre-theatre meal. Their broths are chicken based, rather than pork, but wow, are they ever flavorful and looking smacking good! Overall, a great bowl - with nicely cooked noodles and all components coming together well. The gyoza were very good too. I’ll be back!
I'm obsessed! Was taken here a few weeks ago and have gone here alone multiple times since. The ramen is my favorite in the city and the pork buns are insaneeee. I love this place so much I tell everyone about it. The service is also great! Bery attentivr and accomodating.
Amazing hole in the wall ramen. Love that you can choose your style of noodle and then choose how soft or firm you want it. Plus all the additional toppings are excellent to choose from. It’s great to sit at the bar behind the cook and you can marvel at how he does it all by himself. Amazing.
Hands down the best ramen I've ever had. Absolutely loved this tiny hole in the wall we stumbled upon. Broth was incredibly flavorful and not really heavy like a lot of others I've had. Noodles were perfect and the pork melted in my mouth. Do yourself a favor and get the gyoza too, you won't be disappointed. I will forever tell anyone I can about this place. This place is super tiny so be prepared to possibly wait.
Possibly the best and most authentic Japanese ramen in Manhattan! From the chicken broth, to the taste and consistency of the ramen noodles - an absolute blast! The underdog dish is the fried gyoza (dumplings), which were delicious and amazingly crunchy! A definite MUST TRY if you are craving great ramen! Note that the restaurant is very small and narrow, I recommend individuals or small groups of UP TO 4 persons only.
Never underestimate the low review!! Tho the place very small and the review are low but the food is very delicious. I was expecting it might come disappointing when my friend ask me to try this place, but truly its very nice, the soup, the noodle and the meat. The takoyaki also good! Just the cons is the prepare time too slow for us, i thought ramen house should prepare and serve its food in faster just like in Japan.
Yes, yes and yes! Awesome place for a ramen. Both atmosphere and taste comes really close to shops in Tokyo. Broth: I would prefer a bit cleaner broth (but as intensive/creamy). Noodles: handmade with amazing chew. Might be the best noodles I’ve had. Toppings: awesome. I went for deluxe and I love the meat selection. Although, for the price, another chashu wouldn’t hurt. Quantity: slightly more broth and meat would give it a lot better value for money. Other: a bit less garlic paste. As well, I didn’t really get pulled pork. It’s not very Japanese, is it? Stick to your concept and roots! Tip starts at 20% and goes higher. I find it a bit extensive for a simple Ramen place that is already priced in the upper limit. All in all, this is very strong ramen. I will be back and can highly recommend it.
Update: I’m not going to change the stars because the food is authentically good. Came in here Sunday afternoon with my brother to eat, we are primarily used to the old crew but haven’t been back for nearly a year. This time when we walked in we were told to sit at the bar next to a man who was blowing his nose almost theatrically. It was honestly just nasty. Tables were available but didn’t have the option. Having worked in the restaurant industry for many years sticking two people next to a guy who isn’t doing too well and almost making a scene is not proper, it’s actually gross. I don’t want to rub shoulders with someone who can’t stop blowing his nose next to my bowl of ramen. Needless to say we left. Good food, waitress this time around …meh. I will say though the guy should have had the decency to go to the bathroom or stay home. I usually don’t care but at bar top it’s not sanitary. Old review: One of my favorite Ramen Shops in NYC. I have been in Southwest for almost half a year and missed this place. Glad to be back and have this tradition back.
This was BY FAR.... the best and most authentic Ramen I'd ever had!! Our family of 10 walked in one day in NYC... the small restaurant is sublevel, down some stairs. So cute!! We all ordered different things, but the favorite was the chefs special-- super deluxe. If you are on the fence about this place... go ahead and hop on over to the Ramen side of that fence!! You won't regret it!!
Perfect for what I was looking for. While simple, the ramen was delicious, silky rich broth and chewy noodles. The staff was super friendly and you can tell they are proud of their business. I had the no frills Toribro Paitan Ramen. So comforting. Next time I’ll be more adventurous and go for the Mega or try the curry. Very casual spot I’d recommend if you’re in the area.
Loved this little noodle shop! The pot stickers were great and perfectly cooked with a crispy glaze shell. The Ramen broth was very flavorful and had a great presentation! Atmosphere is true New York. Tight space, but that's part of the charm. The chefs work their butts off. I sat at the counter and was amazed at how well they cooked in such a small space. Respect. as a retired chef myself, I found the place to be well worth the wait outside.
Toribro Ramen in NYC is a cozy, inviting spot known for its rich, flavorful chicken-based broths and perfectly cooked noodles. The menu focuses on tori paitan-style ramen, offering a creamy, comforting bowl that’s both hearty and satisfying without being too heavy. Toppings are fresh and well-balanced, and the service is warm and efficient. If you’re looking for a solid chicken ramen option in the city, Toribro is a great choice for a comforting and delicious meal.
Hear me out, what do you really come to restaurants for? The ambiance? No, it’s the food you silly goose 🪿 Toribro reminds me of the Japanese food stalls in Tokyo. Yes it’s cramped. Yes the ambiance is not the best. But the ramen and chicken broth they make are absolutely delicious and top notch! That’s what matters at the end of the day. The people who complain the space is too small haven’t been to Japan and it shows through their reviews. ありがとうございます!
WOW! The food was phenomenal. We stumbled upon this neighborhood hole in the wall ramen spot. It can easily be missed. Thankful I peeked in one rainy day. It was the perfect spot when trying to dodge the city crowds and long lines. It’s not worth it with little ones in toll. We had a late lunch close to 2pm & the place was close to empty. Maybe we were just lucky bc after we got our appetizers the place was packed. It’s a small no frills type of place with barstool seating and 3 tables. Felt like we step into Japan. All the dishes had such rich flavors & textures that danced in my mouth. Seaweed salad was bright and vibrant. I would say the best I’ve had. Pan fried gyo-za skin was deliciously soft & supple with a nice crisp pan fried web at the base. The ramen broth was not your typical pork base it was a traditional Japanese chicken base broth; Paitan “white soup” cooked under high heat. Don’t be fooled the chicken broth was still comforting with rich umami flavors which was thick & creamy. The ramen toppings; char sui, pulled pork & pork cubes were so juicy, tender & packed with flavor. Noodles were chewy and al dente. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
10/5!!! This place serves the best ramen I’ve tried in NYC so far. The prices are extremely competitive, and the value for money is unbeatable. I go back often and recommend it to everyone. Staff is amazing. Special shout-out to the draft beer. This great ramen warms me up whenever its cold outside, and its beer refreshes me when its too warm. I always have a good reason to go, and I never deny myself the pleasure. My go to
Really small dining area so best to finish up your meal and make way for other diners. Their chicken broth is very good and perfect during the colder months. Menu is not huge but what they do they do quite well. Food comes quite quickly and service is quick and efficient. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Tucked below street level, this cozy ramen spot feels like one of New York City’s hidden treasures. The space is small, with only a few tables and mostly bar seating, creating an intimate, authentic atmosphere that’s perfect for a quick pre-show meal. We went around 5 p.m. before a Broadway performance, and by the time we left an hour later, a line was already forming out the door—a clear sign of its popularity. The ramen was fantastic, with rich, flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles that hit all the right notes of comfort and depth. A delicious, no-frills gem that’s well worth seeking out.
If I want to visit a Japanese restaurant, I want to feel like I'm in a Japanese restaurant. This ramen place gave me that feeling, that is one main reason why I love this place more than all other places in the city. Service is perfect. If you like more intense flavor, I recommend you add more extra garlic paste. I would say when I want to hangout with my dear friends, have a good meal, I may choose this place.
I left a review 3 years ago and hands down, Toribro is still the best ramen I’ve had in my life! Their spot is a cozy and authentic ramen is served. The food is prepared delicately and at the time you order, all fresh! This is definitely a nice experience, it reminds me of a small home kitchen with all the nice smell covering the nose with delicious scents!! 100%recommend! If you come in rush hour and weekends there will be a line so give yourself time to come enjoy.
This place really transports! The interior is small and very similar to ramen shops you’d find in Japan. Menu is straight to the point and offers a quality selection of assorted broths. Their inhouse char-shiu chicken/pork is really tasty. They also have a “add rice + topping” to finish off your soup once you finish your noodles (genius!) Happy hour prices looked super reasonable and will definitely try to stop by again
I had the Toribo Mega, a huge bowl for like $19 and it was FILLING and delicious.. I would definitely come out of my way for another visit. The broth was very flavorful, better than a handful of the ramen places in the area which I've tried. Near empty at lunchtime but haven't gone there in the evening.
Probably the best ramen I’ve had in my life! The restaurant and bathroom could use a makeover, but also can appreciate the “hole in the wall” vibes.
Small place that makes you feel almost like you've been transported into a hidden ramen shop in a side street in Japan. Friendly staff and amazing food. Highly recommend sitting at the bar as you can admire the wonderful cooks working their magic.
Ramen is good. Rich soup, tender and juice pork, thin plain noodle. Service is way too slow. Only one waitress serving the entire place. Need more staff.
Not very spacious. The chef is the same chef who used to work for Toto ramen. The menu is very simple, besides appetizers, there are about 6 different ramen with additional toppings to choose from. They also offer a vegan ramen menu as well as about 4 different kinds of Don. The flavor is good and I like the pork that comes with the ramen soup. If the soup can be a little less salty, things will be perfect.
The ramen here is incredibly flavorful and rich—absolutely delicious! You’ll be licking your fingers. My only suggestion is to expand, as there’s just not enough space for a place like this. As for the restroom—well, let’s just say if you’re not a contortionist, it might be a tight squeeze. The bar seating is also a bit uncomfortable for longer visits, so adding more tables would be fantastic for customer convenience
Excellent tori paitan ramen! I got the big one, soup was so freakin creamy and rich and full of flavor. I wasn’t too big of a fan of the meats, it has a bit of a bite to it and while the pork belly was nicely torched, my personal preference now are the sous vide type, so this was slightly chewy. Overall I would totally come here again. This evening I dined by myself, walk in and barely waited 15 mins to get a seat at the counter. There’s a book to put your name on a waitlist down when you arrive, but solo diners can just ask the host.
I ordered pickup so I can’t say much about the atmosphere though it’s a small bar style sit down area. The lady who handled my order was helpful and friendly. The chef was a little unwelcoming. I had the curry paitan, the broth was rich and creamy. The pork char siu was buttery, melt in your mouth which was absolutely delicious. The gyoza was very underwhelming, tasted burnt and the meat lacked flavour. Overall, I would recommend this place, ramen broth was unlike any other that I had before.
Had been here on a snowy evening and the ramen did complete justice. We started with chicken bao bun and kimchi as appetizers. The taste was yum but the portion was quite small for $5 each. We then got 2 spicy toribro ramen and a chicken paitan curry and rice with an additional side of spicy sauce. Both the dishes were delicious and flavorful. Due to less quantity, we had to share 3 dishes amongst 2 people for us to be full. The space is quite small and would need waiting as they don’t take reservations. Would recommend adding the spicy sauce to the broth to make it more flavorful.
Solid ramen. Ordered the paitan and the deluxe mega - same signature chicken broth but the deluxe mega just has more toppings. All the main components - broth, noodles, and pork - were great. Nothing that blew me away, but all very good quality! Arrived right at open at 530pm and glad we were the last to make the first seating because the line immediately started building up. Took 45 min for us to get our food because it’s just one guy cooking. Service was very friendly.
It is a tight dim light mid basement type space. The ambience is not up to par but the food is good. The chicken paitan broth has a very subtle and soothing taste. The noodles are cooked slightly raw which I like. Over all taste is good but the ramen could have had more default veggies in it like the way it is elsewhere usually. The quantity is quite less than usual. A good spot in the area overall.
We recently discovered this cozy Japanese spot in our neighborhood, and it’s definitely a hidden gem! I love that they use chicken broth for most of their ramen. I had the Toribro deluxe mega ramen, and the broth was rich and flavorful, not too overpowering. The noodles had a nice chew, though they were a little undercooked for my liking. My boyfriend tried the vegan truffle miso ramen, which was also delicious but a bit salty. We also enjoyed the fresh and tasty seaweed salad. The service was good, and the beer was served cold. We’ll definitely be back to explore more of their menu.
The 2 who attend walk-ins seem incredibly hospitable and nice. The atmosphere was casual and easy, felt comfortable. The ramen’s mega option - flavor packed with pork, slightly OD. Don’t think one could always be receptive to that much “pork-iness” and even if one was… scallions act the savior there, but really wishing for better balance. The noodles were a nice chewy texture. The food, overall, slightly overrated, based on all the reviews.
Place is small and tightly packed. Some people may like that as it feels "authentic" but personally it was not to my liking. People eating next to you and their slurping and stuff will get on your side. Not the most hygiene. The chicken paitan was good. The chicken mayo bun was good, wise there was more chicken in both dishes. Overall good, but I would explore other places.
Food 6/10 The broth seemed to be from chicken stock, and it unfortunately lacked complexity. A little basic and heavy too. The ramen itself had a decent chew, but the thickness was thicker than what I prefer. The gyozas were very solid though. Atmosphere 5/10 Quite a cramped space. It’s a very hole in the wall narrow hallway, but I’m glad they had hangers to put your coats because there were only backless tools. Service 7/10 Solid service, nothing much to say about it.
Ambiance (4/5): This is a classic Japanese ramen shop feel—tight high top bar seating that overlooks the kitchen. There are a few tables on the side as well. It was cool seeing the solo chef prepare all the moving parts. Sadly, I did not feel like the seating was very comfortable, as the bottom part moved around on its own and there is no backing. Service (5/5): Came in on a Friday afternoon and there was only 2 or 3 other solo patrons so I was attended to throughout my experience. Toriburo Spicy (3/5): The noodles were a bit on the undercooked side so a little more chewy (which I like/prefer!) I like the homemade spicy paste that gave the dish another level of flavor! For the price point, I was definitely hoping that the pork charsiu piece would be a little more generous in portion size—however it’s really only 2 small slices. The flavor was there and a good blend of meat to fat ratio but just really to meager. The dish also does not come with any egg. I think I was hoping for a bit more flavor in the broth to wow me but it’s admittedly hard to compare paitan to tonkontsu. Happy Hour pricing Monday to Friday 12-6:30pm during the summer looks like $3-4 discounts off beers/sake!
Had a subpar experience for lunch on Toribro. I recognize that I came as the lunch rush was starting and maybe they were understaffed, but the service and food was lacking. Upon entering, I was told that the only seat available was the at the bar counter closest to the door. This was during a deep freeze in NY. I understand that solo diners get bad seats, but since they were seating groups of two communally at tables inside, I was at least hoping to maybe sit communally or maybe to get moved down the bar further away from the door. Instead just got a cold attitude and sat through lunch freezing even with my down parka on. I also was really disappointed with my gyoza order. The chef was multitasking when he flipped the gyoza from the pan to the plate. The gyoza was way off center, and he made no effort to try to center it. Moreover, the left side of the gyoza were burnt. See photo. The order already took 15-20 minutes, so I did not bother trying to ask them to remake it. The ramen was fairly tasty. My only quibble was the sparse toppings. Really seemed like too little for the price of the dish. Anyway, I probably should have gone to nearby EAK Ramen instead.
I had a terrible experience at this ramen spot and will never return. The place is small, cramped, and uncomfortable, but the worst part was the lack of basic hygiene practices. Both the server and the cook wore the same dirty blue gloves throughout their shifts. I came in shortly before closing and was shocked to see the cook step out from behind the kitchen area, touch doors, keys, and other surfaces, then return to prepare food without changing gloves. I watched him handle scallions, vegetables, meat, and noodles all with those same gloves. He touched my entire meal with the same gloves that had been used for hours, cross-contaminating everything. It was disgusting and unacceptable. I voiced my concern and asked the cook to change his gloves, but by then, my food was already prepared. And they didn’t even offer me to make me a fresh bowl after contaminating my food. The ramen itself looked unappetizing and even seemed to have spit bubbles in it. I wanted to leave and not risk getting sick, but knowing how these situations can escalate and how some people can come off aggressive or hostile, I stayed and paid for the meal. That night, I suffered from a terrible bellyache. It would be far more hygienic if the cook washed his hands and changed gloves while preparing different meals and took his gloves off after touching other objects. Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of similar establishments like this have poor hygiene and unsanitary practices, which is incredibly disappointing. This was my second visit, and it will be my last. I left feeling upset, hungry, and disgusted. I regret spending my money here. If you care about hygiene and quality service, avoid this place at all costs.
Please, for your own sake, please avoid. Your $15/$30 are much better spent elsewhere. Surprise your mom with it, or donate it to charity or something, you’d get more enjoyment from that. I don’t usually review places but I had to for this one, just to let people know. I have no idea how this place got as highly reviewed as it did. This is both one of the worst ramens I’ve had and also one of the worst dining experiences. The broth did not have much flavor (and not just because it’s chicken paitan, I’ve had good chicken broth, give Susuru a try). The noodles were just normal, okay. The 2 thin pieces of pork char siu were also just normal, average at best. The service was extremely slow. I sat down at 2:57PM, and just sat there staring into space until 3:17PM when someone remembered to take my order. I received my food at 3:37PM. I also had to ask for water myself, and it’s not like the place was busy (just around 4-5 pairs). Oh, and the atmosphere. It’s in the basement, very small and tight. It’s typical of ramen restaurants in Japan, so I won’t fault that. But my stool was so loose that I almost fell twice. It’s like I had to balance myself as I was sitting. My leg was falling sleep halfway through the meal. Please, for the love of God, save your money. Go across the street and get yourself an earl grey cream puff from Bibble & Sip or something with this money instead. You’ll thank me later.
Horrible ramen experience ever 1. We waited for almost 1 hour for our ramen 2. I ask for straight noodles but I got the wrong one, I don’t think it’s a hard thing for the waitress to distinguish different types of noodles. 3. No refill of water, no apology for food delay and the room temperature is frozen. I am curious of the reason why this is still in business.
