Excellent! Always fantastic and authentic Chinese food. You really can’t find good Chinese food anymore these days and they deserve more appreciation for it. It’s a shame how hard they have been hit by the pandemic, inflation and staffing shortages as it affects their hours open. I’ll always love their food, just wish things were different for them. Support your local business as they don’t get help like big chains do!

Went for apps & cocktail. Chicken fingers were delicious with breading that was light & didn't overwhelm the chicken. Chicken dumplings were prepared well, but will try veggies or pork for more flavor next time. Service was quick & attentive.

What a great find! We ate a yummy dinner there at 8 and then walked to the other side for dancing at 10 and had so much fun! It was my first time and I’m sad I didn’t know about this place sooner. I liked that there were people of all ages there. The DJ even took a song request :) I had a blast and am definitely going back again

Okay, so first let me tell you what I don't like about Golden Temple. I don't like paying $20 for valet parking. I don't like the traffic going there from Lynn. The tables are too small, chairs aren't comfortable and the booths are cramped. It's loud. But still I have to give them 5 stars because the food is so freaking good! My top 3 favorite items are the chicken fingers, salt and pepper shrimp, and the Golden Temple ribs. Everything is great. Very consistent quality. It is always worth the trouble of going there. Very satisfying.

I grew up down the street at 1589 beacon and have been coming to GT since before I could remember. Amazing food and staff. Also if you like to dance the DJs take over the E room at 10 to 2pm. Great mixed crowd from 21 to us old folks. Come check out the best American Chinese and authentic Chinese food around then danc the delicious calories away.

We always write about excellent food. This restaurant is consistently always delicious.. food is always prepared the way you request it...i have been dining here for years and nothing has changed! I also want to point out the EXCELLENT delivery team. They are exceptional and care about what they do. Please thank them and tell them how much they are appreciated..We as customers appreciate the attention to detail! They make the experience so much more! Thank you!

The BEST crab lagoon I have ever tasted and some great drinks!

Wowie!! Best Chinese food I ever had in my life! Very authentic tasting and polite staff 👍 the architecture of the interior and exterior of the restaurant is incredibly gorgeous and feels like you are walking in a fine dining location! I love all of their food as they are made fresh with high quality ingredients, but my most favorite dish has to be the crab Rangoons 🦀. The Rangoons are incredibly creamy and crispy with a fresh taste of crab. The next time if you are visiting Boston and can’t find a good restaurant, go to Brookline as this place is the spot to go eat in. I will absolutely come back!

Golden Temple has beautiful architecture and is extremely clean adding to the upscale but casual atmosphere. The seating is nicely spaced to enjoy your meal without being crowded. I found that they do a great job with the popular New England Chinese appetizers. They have old school Egg Rolls that are filled with a perfect mixture. You can eat them without needing any duck sauce. The famous Golden Temple Ribs are worth the extra money. Nice char and flavor. Crisp on the outside tender on the inside easily coming off the bone. I would consider these very high up on my list for best in the state. The Chicken Wings had a nice dark color that gets you excited to take a bite. They were crispy and juicy with a very nice flavor. The Beef Teriyaki was marinated nicely and very flavorful. The Hot and Sour Soup was good, but a little heavy handed on the vinegar. The Shrimp were cooked perfectly in the Lobster Sauce. The sauce was okay. The Orange Beef lacked any crispiness, was hard to cut and the sauce had more of a tomato flavor. Overall the food was really good with the appetizers being the star of the show. They alone make it worth checking out. I'll try some different entrées next time. My friends tell me the Lobster Sauce is great. I will probably give it a second try and see if I caught an off night.

I made a reservation and went on valentines day. Not many people were there. We were seated right away and safely away from other, but the wait to order was way too long. We waited about 20 min. Workers were walking by and not asking if we were ready to order or order a drink. When we did get to order the drinks and food came out quickly. The food was fresh and hot which was a plus, but the quantity for the price was not good. All in all the service could have been better, the food was great, but a little on the pricey side for the amount of food given.

Generously filled crab meat in crab Rangoon. I go to this place when i want to eat bland & healthy chinese food, ambiance is rich. Low on taste and seasoning. But a fine dine experience. Good for once in a while but not a tasty place. Service was good.

The sesame beef and vermicelli dishes were spectacular. The chicken with cashew was bland. The hot and sour soup was oddly sweet and the egg drop soup was too salty.

Took my family there after my son's graduation atmosphere was great food was good we had an enjoyable time

Food was good quality with very large portions. We had a large party and our elderly server often seemed confused. But after having to repeat the orders multiple times, he got everything right. The nightclub is a fun addition, though the DJ was pretty awful. Despite the bar being busy, was always pretty easy to get a drink as bartenders were paying attention to make sure everyone was served.

E
Elena Villegas

My girlfriend introduced me to this place. The crowd was a little off early in the night but makes more sense later on. The service was everything. The bartenders put on a show the host does a walk by handing out samples the DJ knows exactly what to play. The food is better than the drinks though.

Ordered here for my husband’s birthday, the food was decent, over priced but decent. We ordered a Mai Tai, and it was less than 8oz for $15, wild!

My friend and I both had the chicken pad Thai. We were surprised that the waiter didn't know what peanut sauce was. Instead, he had the chef put on extra peanuts. What was worse was that it tasted like vinegar soup. We mentioned it to the waiter. He told my friend it was sour because he used soy sauce. I didn't use any, and mine was sour. We both ended up getting sick. While I have had good Chinese food there in the past, I will never go back. For the price, I expected much better food.

Normally I would say they have best Chinese food in Boston area. I was not feeling that way this time. Got a pu-pu platter for 2 and it was barely any food. The waiter was good because he walked my Mom, to the batroom.

D

Smelled like cigarettes, fairly expensive for what we expected food wise (it was just like any other American-Chinese restaurant we had been to), the drinks were way over priced. Glad we tried it, probably won't be going back.

M
Matt Reid

Geriatric vibe. Decent food, but expensive. Service was friendly and competent. Food took a crazy long time to come and one dish at a time, almost like a family style teasing menu. For a table on 9, that made for a less than pleasant pace of tiny portions over 1:45. On the up side, best pork fried rice I've ever had.

D
David Howard

Food was good. Prices were as everywhere now a little more expensive than they used to be. It just didn't. Wow me the chicken mushi that we had the chicken could have been more. Could have been bigger strips etc. But the food was good. Just I thought price wise it could have been better for what we were served

I don't want to be too harsh here......but.....it's a tradition in my family to cook at home on Christmas Eve but to go out to a non-Christian restaurant on Christmas Day to eat....preferably Chinese food. I had a reservation for 7pm but they were over-sat and we didn't actually get a table until 7:30pm. While we were standing and waiting they just kept allowing more and more people to walk in with or without a reservation and the ENTIRE time they told every single guest including myself that they were backed up 15min. By the time we got our table there was a giant crowd in the waiting area. As a chef myself in a large VIP restaurant in Fenway I knew the hostess and waiters were simply mismanaging the walk-in system by allowing impatient people to crowd the bar. We heard them pick up the phone and cancel several people's previously placed to-go orders which I thought was absolutely shocking to do last minute on a holiday like that. Our total time from walking in the door to leaving was 2 hrs and 20min. The food......was unfortunately not worth the wait. I'm convinced that we were served durum wheat linguine instead of egg noodles in our lo mein dishes and we actually had to send back a dish that was supposed to be szechuan beef but only had 3 strips of meat in what was about 1lb of soggy eggplant. They also had already run out of duck before we were ever sat apparently. This led me to believe we definitely didn't get real lo mein noodles and they were running out of all the food forcing them to go to a local open grocery for substitutes. I would not come back even if it wasn't a busy holiday but as for all the shortcomings and issues on top of a ridiculous price-set considering the lack of quality I will suggest to them what I always suggest in my professional career..........if you dont want to be open or cant handle being open on a holiday, then don't, as last nights experience convinced me the place just isn't worth a visit by anyone no matter what.

Ordered for delivery. Shrimp fried rice, two egg rolls, and one boneless spare rib order. $44! I wouldn't mind as much if the containers were not tiny. I mean really, $44 for what amounted to slightly more than a meal for one person? On top of it all, it took an hour for delivery even though I'm less than 2 miles from the place. No thanks.

The food was average, and the atmosphere was a bit chilly. It might be a good place for business meetings, but not for a fun night out with friends. We ended up here because there weren’t any other options nearby.

S
Steve B

The atmosphere was nice. We were the only ones in there for an early dinner. The waiter was a little less attentive than he should have been. He disappeared for long stretches of time. The food was very unimpressive. Everything was exceptionally salty and a little too sweet. I got a dish that was supposed to be spicy but it wasn't. I was with three other people and none of them got anything they were happy with. I definitely won't be going back there.

Love the food here. The tempura is AWESOME. We USED TO get our New Years Eve dinner here. This year they decided to cancel our order, that was put in via the website on Wednesday morning. We found out Thursday afternoon. No reason for cancellation, when asked over the phone about it, we were told "too bad"....and "we don't care".. very bad customer service for New Years dinner, cancelling a $375 Chinese food order...but, we went to another restaurant...saved a few $$, and (most importantly) got our Chinese food for New Years Eve. I will not return, as this is the 3rd time there has been a hassle getting food from them. Last 2 problems have been small shortages in the order Apparently, they don't want my money, maybe it's not green enough for them....either way, there are better, and cheaper places local to them, so... If you find them NOT to be satisfactory, just head down the street some.

I spent $196.00 on food and there wasn’t one item in the order that I would buy again! The famous spareribs were so dry, the chow mein was like slop, beef lo mein noodles were raw and the beef was slimy. I was even disappointed in the scallion pancakes which were soaked with oil. And how do you mess up an egg roll? I can’t believe how overpriced they are and such low quality food! Years ago Golden Temple was one of the better places to buy Chinese food. I could not believe they serve this food. Will be sure to let others know how this place has went downhill. Maybe by skimping on good quality ingredients and highly trained cooks they are paying for the renovations. Sorry about the rant but I am pretty upset about spending all the money on food that I will be feeding to my trash can!!!

C

Mild, under-seasoned food with high prices. Even our cocktails weren't that tasty. Wanted to like it more as it is a favorite of two friends, but just disappointed.

Food is meh. Service terrible. Took 1 hr to order. Ordered duck. After 20 min waiter told us they are "out of duck". Still kept it ($50) in the bill (overcharged). High prices (for chinese). Obligatory 20% tip.

Ordered takeout chicken fingers shrimp fried rice and small lobster sauce came to almost $45. Food was in small containers small portions. Not worth the price. Use to eating here not any more. Too expensive and small portions of food.

This is the worst meal I have ever received in my life from an establishment. Not only is the food disgusting the price is outrageous. Take it from me do not order here. The chicken was just in a puddle of oranges for some reason. The noodles look like they just boiled them and put them on the plate. I couldn’t even finish the meal and honestly was super disappointed especially from a place that looked like it should be good. If I could give less stars I would. This place is disgusting.

DEAD MOUSE UNDER MY TABLE! I’ve been here numerous times over the years but stopped coming due to the pandemic. I came back to celebrate with my family after a long while and the food was great but service was terrible. The waiters were rude and kept touching the top of our cups. Table we were placed was FILTHY! They served us flat sodas. Then to top it off a dead mouse was under our table and apparently snuggled under one of my guests purses that accidentally full under the table. How disgusting. The staff didn’t even come by to apologize . We had already paid for our food so the least they could do is apologize. One of the managers snatched my phone out of my hand when I tried to show him the picture of the mouse which they quickly cleaned up to cover their tracks. He tried to delete the picture off my phone multiple people had to demand for him to return my phone. Never coming or supporting this business ever again

I don’t know what happened tonight. But I feel really disappointed in this dinner. Everything is salty. And the service is kinda rude. Don’t care about the feelings of customers. Only care about what time u pay. Feel so unhappy tonight.

I sat at the bar at Golden Temple and had a couple drinks and finished my dinner when the bartender put down my bill. On my bill there was an entry "S/C: ADMIN FEE" FOR $1.23. Upon seeing it I asked the bartender what was that charge for? He said he didn't know and you should ask the front desk. So I went to the front desk and asked an elderly, portly, white haired, Asian man standing there what was the fee for? He told me that he didn't know; it was in the computer and he couldn't change it. I asked to see the person in charge and he told me that he left for the evening and he had no way of contacting him(Eric. I think?) I also asked the middleaged, brown haired Asian woman who was also there sitting down in front of a computer screan if she could help me and I didn't get a response. I went on to explain that I didn't want to pay the fee and to take it off my biil. The elderly man told me to take it out of the bartender's tip because he couldn't do anything about it. I asked the older man to get the man who left early on the phone he told me that he had noway of contacting him. When I questioned the man on what he would do if there was an emergency or fire in the restaurant who would he call and he responded "The Fire Department." Then I asked him who would notify the owner? He didn't answer... I would like to caution anyone who would think of dinning at Golden Temple about their deceptive business practices and unexplained fees. They are basically stealing your hard earned money and taking advantage of you not throughly reading/understanding your charges/bill. Isn't the price of food high enough not to have extra fees added when you dine out?!?! Who knows how long they have been collecting these hidden fees without anyone noticing? I am wondering if the Licensing Board or the Town of Brookline are aware of their deceptive business practices? Also there is no mention of this fee on their menu or posted anywhere in the establishment. With that said, that will be my first two phone calls on Monday morning. Also, here is a copy of my bill.

Completely downhill. A steep hill. My family has been ordering from and patronizing Golden Temple for over 20 years. Their food is now UNRECOGNIZABLE from years past. I last dined here in 2021. We do not live in the area anymore, which was the only reason for my absence. Sadly, I will never return. We ordered beef and broccoli, boneless spareribs, pork fried rice, vegetable delight and chicken fingers. $100 worth of takeout, straight to the trash. Other than the chicken fingers, the food was absolutely disgusting. Asked for no mushrooms in vegetable delight and rice, and was seemingly given extra. The spareribs were a weird brown color and appeared boiled. No grill or as-so sauce used at all. The veggies were rock hard and ‘stir fried’ in god knows what and tasted like nothing. What was supposed to be a special treat for my family greatly disappointed. Never again unfortunately. Dining room and bar were dead when I picked up my food at 7:30pm on a Thursday. Should have been a sign…

So say this, I’ve been coming here for over 20 years long time. It was a great place. I will never enter the building. $90 on dinner that I could’ve got anywhere. Small portions not hot. You could pick up Chinese food takeout and drive for 50 minutes it still be hot, not the dinner table asked why had no rice. They thought it was funny. I’m not laughing thanks but no thanks.

D

This place has gone so far down hill. The host looks as if she has better things to do. The mirrors behind the bar need cleaning, the room is so dark, you cant see your menu or food when it comes out. We ordered typical food. Was quite surprised when it came out in less than 5 minutes. Very bland, tasted as if it were kept under a heat lamp. Or bought from the freezer section of Costco. If you were a patron from 30 years as I was and hadnt bern in quite a while, it is extremely disappointing. Never again. I wouldnt recommend anything. We were in the Bar area where they serve a full menu.

After a disaster of an experience ordering delivery on Christmas day, we gave them another chance on an average Friday night. Our delivery time came and went, we called and the food was ready and sitting there getting cold… 45 minutes later the food still hadn’t left the restaurant (1.5 hrs after ordering). Staff on the phone was friendly but unhelpful, had to call back a third time to cancel the order and get a refund and the food was still sitting there. Who knows, maybe the food is good but good luck getting delivery.

HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN!!! This place used to be a STAPLE for Chinese food in the Boston area. I went recently and the place was DEAD!! Restaurant only had a few people and the dance floor side literally only had 4 people on a Friday night at 11p. I couldn't figure out why. After having the food, I saw why. It just isn't any good anymore. Not sure if it is new ownership or what, but the quality just isn't there anymore. And the PRICES, Jesus h...they are INSANE!! Even the booze was crazy.....$8 for a Corona....ONE CORONA!! ARE THEY SERIOUS??!!! Anyway...if you choose to go to this place, prepare to pay THROUGH THE NOSE for below average Chinese food....good luck. You have been warned!!!

Preordered Food for delivery the DAY BEFORE New Year's Eve and was sent a message the all was confirmed only to get another message AT 5:00 New Year's Eve that my order was now cancelled!!! Are you kidding me? Terrible thing to do to someone! Thanks for ruining Our Holiday! Will never order from here again

If there was a zero star option that's what Golden Temple deserves. Where to start? I made my reservation (almost a week in advance on 12/18/2023) for Christmas Eve online through Resy Reservations for 7:45PM for 5 people and got a confirmation email. On Saturday 12/23/2023, I received a text message reminding me about my reservation and I responded confirming it. Finally, on Sunday 12/24/2023, I received another reminder text message at 7:15PM stating "You're due at Golden Temple in 30 minutes." We arrived at 7:40PM to find people waiting everywhere, outside the front entrance, in the lobby (visibly distressed)…people with reservations had been waiting for over an hour and there were other parties that had been seated already that were coming up to the front desk hostess and letting her know that they've been sitting at their table for over an hour and nobody has come to take their order, other parties had ordered their food over an hour ago and still nothing had come out. The hostess had zero reaction, she would just stare straight ahead and told some people (including me) that "you can leave if you want to." What kind of customer service is that? Golden Temple has had a reputation for a long time as a popular restaurant in Brookline and as an even more popular dining destination for Christmas Eve. How can you treat people this way and expect to have repeat customers or maintain a good reputation in the community? If you cannot properly staff your business so that customers have an enjoyable dining experience or at least can get their food then DO NOT OPEN!!! The level of rudeness and indifference was disgusting and judging by other reviews that I have read, the food isn't good either. We ended up leaving and going to Blossom Bar in Brookline Village which had a much better level of customer service, the drinks were amazing, the food was very tasty, and the customer service was enthusiastic; our server genuinely made us feel like he wanted us to have a great time. A blessing in disguise I guess that we didn't get seated for our reservation at Golden Temple. I will never go there again and an establishment with that type of attitude to their customers should not be in business!

Fool me once….After many mishaps for the annual Christmas Chinese Food Dinner, I once again tried Golden Temple. I placed my order online 2 days, yes 2 days prior to Christmas for a pickup time of 6PM. When I arrived at the restaurant tonight, at 5:55, I was greeted to chaos, and lines. Hearing stories of people being told their orders were HOURS late. As I waiting in the line, I received a call at 6:10 (10 mins after my order was supposed to be picked up), they no longer had the chicken dish. Well thats odd, since it is a staple, and I ordered it days ago. I asked when the rest of the food would be ready and was told 20-30 mins, but I could cancel if I wanted. Looking at my surroundings, I chose the option to cancel, but with no backup food plan. With most orders coming in online, there is no excuse for this type of ineptitude. Merry Christmas to us! Figure it out guys, it is not so hard.

Food is bad. Very bad. What a disappointment. The service is horrible as well. Trust me and stay away from this place. We threw away our food couldn’t even eat it and they would not give a refund or replace it with anything else.

The food I ordered tonight was absolutely terrible. 80.00 dollars later, they say they will pick it up an reimburse me. That would be good. More soon, or not.

A
Alain Dor

I honestly don’t understand how this place remains in business. This was by far the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. It was so bad I wouldn’t even give it to my dog. Save yourself the disappointment and spend your money elsewhere.
