If you are looking for metal, beer and music this is the BEST place in the city for it. The bartenders and locals around here make you feel welcomed and glad to have you area. The liquor is pretty cheap so no excuse not to leave a good tip & don't forget to spin the wheel!
Just so good. Always. Good spot, solid people. I hate when people come in to play the lamest music but hey.
If you have read any of my other reviews you'll know that five stars doesn't necessarily mean it's the nicest but it's top tier at what the establishment aims to be. Duff's is a metal bar, and it's my personal choice to experience that atmosphere. At Duff's you can expect friends, open patrons willing to make new friends provided you leave your judgement at the door. Drinks are inexpensive and an eclectic decor complement the metal music ambiance. Songs range from classic metal to thrash metal and everything in between - which is to say even non metal heads may appreciate the AC/DC and Iron Maiden. Because the theme at Duff's is palpable and throughout while maintaining a welcoming environment, it gets an easy five stars. Wear what you want but an outfit that is casual and favors black will likely help you blend in with the crowd if that's your goal.
Went with my buddies and had a great time. Good music and good drinks. Highly recommend this spot to anyone who listens to metal.
Awesome bar. I told the bartender I was from out of town and she gave me a guitar pick. I dig heavy metal and dive bars and this was one of the best
Cool place, affordable beverages. Not exactly my favorite music in the world but I seriously dig this place anyway. they were exceedingly patient with the girl I was meeting who I was meeting showed up completely sh*tfaced and began making a scene before I could even finish half my drink. Good people, good place.
If you like rock and metal it is an excellent bar, good music and a great atmosphere!
Had a real blast at this place. A true rock bar that actually feels like you’re walking into the best concert you’ve ever been to. Highly recommend!!
Just a fricken awesome Rocker bar. Best rock memorabilia I’ve seen in any bar, ever. Nothing to fault here, great music, cheap drinks and a welcoming great vibe.
Great metal ambiance with a lot of legit rock memorabilia. The wheel of drinks was a pretty cruel mistress but still funny to try. The bartender was also cool as hell and really friendly.
I don't go to many bars, but this is the bar I would go to on a regular basis. It's not too crazy, but definitely not quiet so its perfect. The atmosphere, the people, and the music was out of this world. The bathroom selfies = life. The prices = awesome. Bartenders = my new friends. If you're into the alternative/punk/metal scene, this is the bar for you.
My favorite bar, prices are amazing, the bartenders are the best you always feel Welcome when you walk in, sometimes it gets a little busy but they try their best to Get to you as soon as they can, I'm very layed back so I don't rush to Get drinks I don't mind waiting a bit and they always try their best to come around to everyone. The vibe is amazing too, nice metal music, friendly vibe, and great prices,
I love this bar, staff are great, the regulars are really friendly and love to chat to anyone and of course the music is awesome! I also really love that everything is swathed in red light, and the roulette wheel is a source of never ending novelty. I won a dog biscuit. I don't even have a dog. It made me happy.
I am giving it 5 stars because the staff was great. The place is very cool. Alot of memorabilia. We went for an event, and everything went good. Everyone is really sweet. We had no problems. They do have a/c. It does get hot but not overbearing. It was comfortable. The drinks are cheaper then other bars. Definitely a metal bar I will return too. We found parking on Broadway, not too far of a walk. I believe the j and m trains go there as well. Great job duffs. Our experience was five stars.
One of the best metal bars in the world. It's like walking into a metal museum, just with a lot of booze. Great service, great music and awesome decorations. Simply a cool bar that every metal head should visit at least once.
Let me start off by saying that I am not the target demographic for this bar. We were on our way back to our hostel after a late night partying at other bars. We wanted a night-cap before heading home, and this was the only bar open at the time. This bar is awesome. You walk in and you are welcomed with floor to ceiling, wall to wall decoration and memorabilia. The staff was also super nice. Even if you aren't into the whole hard-rock/metal scene, I definitely recommend just checking this place out.
If you enjoy metal blasting throughout the night, then this is the bar for you. They have pbr specials till 9pm and drinks are cheap. $20min on cards. Bartenders are super friendly and chill. There's space and tables in the back if you come with a fairly large group. The bar has awesome decor and mementos for any metal/music lover. Highly recommend it to any metal head visiting NYC.
Sat in the execution chair and felt like I was sitting on a throne. So sick. Bartender rocks, best Moscow mule I’ve ever had lowkey
A good place to grab a drink. It wasn't too hot even though it was packed, beers were $4, and people here were easy to talk to. I loved the decor in the back room. There was a lot of space back there and it was all covered in cool art and signatures from legends and an electric chair. Great wind down after a show.
Killer space if your into the sub/counter culture vibe. All who are weary, do not enter. This place will push your limits of comfort ;) Its great for big party but don't ask for a cocktail. Expect a beer, shot, and metal 🤘.The bartenders are awesome, but please come with respect.
It has a great and friendly environment. Drinks are very cheap. Music is great. And the atmosphere is awesome. Always something good going on in Duff's. Just celebrated their 19th anniversary and looking forward for another 19 more
\m/ Great Metal bar \m/ Good place to chill after a show with friends or just a hang out spot. Low alcohol prices ++ The decor is something that cannot be replicated...its amazing!! Plenty of parking around the block. I always have an awesome time there.
Great bar for an old metal lone wolf like myself. I’ve been going for years when it was located in Hell’s Kitchen and it was called bellevue And dancing Dominick was still alive. It’s still a cool little spot to drop by and have a couple of beers and socialize with fellow metal heads. The best metal bar in Brooklyn.
For years I have supported the Peter Steele of Type O Negative Tribute Nights held by the great people of Duff's. Finally, we have made the trip to Brooklyn and the grand finally was at Duff's to end our 10th anniversary and see this place in person. We had a great time. Got a history lesson. Checked out the band memorabilia. Drank with some really great people. Made off with some more merch.
Was amazing if u love metal which I do was great price and service.
Here to be the 1,001th review A metalhead's home sweet home 🍻☠️🍻☠️
Fav bar. You’ll meet the nicest people. Great tunes. Forever a fan. Rock n Roll will never die. Shout out to all the nice bartenders.
If you're into dive bars and love heavy metal music, this is the place for you. Even artists, after playing a show in NYC, have been known to pop up here to hang out amongst fans. The owner is a sweetheart, if you get to see him say hello. The bartenders are friendly even though they're usually slammed and the regulars are super friendly. Can't find a better metal bar than this one.
I've been coming here for years. Love this place. A great place for my metal friends to meet up after a show or celebrate a birthday. Great drink prices too. Most mixed drinks are only $4-6 and it's actually bottled beers that cost about $7. Spin the wheel of misfortune, win a shirt, drink or dog biscuit. Check out the back of the bar. It's like a metal museum. A great tourist stop for any metal head. I brought my friend here to celebrate her 21st birthday.
Best metal bar in the US. There aren't many place where you can play Meshuggah on a jukebox at 3am on a Wednesday. Will be stopping here every time I'm in NYC.
If you want heavy metal, this is the place. I thought I was into heavy metal because I listened to Black Sabbath. I was wrong. That is elevator music compared to what this place is churning out. Very cool decor in this place. Just nothing else like it in any bar I've ever been to, which is awesome. They have a coffin, a barber chair, AND an electric chair. How's that? It's a small joint, everyone seemed very knowledgeable about their metal, and the PBRs were so inexpensive I don't even recall paying for any. This place is a MUST experience if you like to rock.
This was the very first time we have been to a metal bar. Stopped in before the 11PM DOTN show at St Vitus. It has such a great atmosphere and had lots of places to chill. We loved the back lounge area. They played all different types of music, from classic metal to the guttural stuff. The decor is top tier. There are tons of donated music items from different bands, all sorts of posters covering every inch of wall and ceiling, a disco ball reflecting the red lighting. Something new to discover and look at everywhere. The bartenders were great. Drinks came fast and they were welcoming and attentive. Later on, one saw that a drunk person was becoming too friendly with us and was more than willing to step in. No food, but people were allowed to bring in their slices from down the block. Love Duff's!
The bartender Sam is so attentive and friendly every time I come to duffs!! My experience and mood is elevated every time. Love this bar!!
I have been waiting all my life for a bar like this. Heavy Metal is alive and well in this Brooklyn establishment. I plan on returning and spinning the wheel of misfortune till I cannot. Cheers!!! \m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/\m/
Was recommended Duffs from another bar that was closing earlier. Walked in with no context. I think we were the only folks not wearing all black. Everyone was super welcoming and chill. Music was heavy af and the decor alone could entertain you for hours. Drinks were very affordable and service was great. Will be back.
This iconic bar absolutely lives up to the hype of a neighborhood staple dive full of lore and edge. Despite the maximalist decorative style of most stuffy dives, there is no sense of crowdedness here; everything was clean and maintained well (including the bathrooms!). There is no shortage of great music, great relics of music history, and great company among the regulars (especially if you want to chat about music!). I absolutely adored Whitney as a bartender and really emphasize her service as paramount to my positive experience. Even though I was visiting all the way from the Midwest, I felt right at home at Duff's because of her humor, genuine engagement, and efficient attentiveness.
Meet friends for Bday bash. Great atmosphere for metalheads. It was packed on a Saturday night. No surprise there. It's a "go to" hot spot. Street parking is free after 6 or 7pm. Check it out. 🤘
It’s a perfect place if you like rock and roll. Really good music, clean place, cheap drinks at any time. I’d been there twice with my wife, once at happy hour. We were surprised with the price of the Pabst (just 1.50) and with the good music. We’ll be back many many times. Recommend it 100%
No doubt this is currently the best heavy metal bar around. The jukebox plays excellent music, loud, but you can still talk to each other without yelling. Drinks are good, lots of beer choices and about 100 feet from the Marcy Avenue "J/M" elevated subway train station for a quick getaway if both your husband/wife/fiance' and boyfriend/girlfriend come in looking for you. Feet don't fail me now!!! I came in on the anniversary of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's death so they were playing all his music, and they were raffling off a beautiful Dean guitar. Fun and Metal Music Heaven \m/ and lots of really cool memorabilia to look at on the walls. This is the epitome of Metal Bars! Their T-shirts are cool too.
this place is fire, stumbled upon it after a google search of nearby bars and ended up meeting some of the coolest uncs i’ve ever met shoutout eric and bruno 2•22•2k26 :P
Incredible metal/rock memorabilia, really first class. Bartenders have always been super awesome people. I come here with friends before metal shows and whatever the owner puts in the Jesus juice is surprisingly delicious
BEST METAL BAR IN BROOKLYN. - I just wish patrons were cleaner in the bathrooms (but that's a them problem, that has nothing to do with the bar).
In all honesty, Duff's is my favorite bar of all time. It's a must-visit for any metalhead who find themselves in Brooklyn, and provides a scavenger hunt guaranteed to find memorabilia from any and every band at the end of the trail. Stop at either Taco Bell or McDonald's around the corner, get your food to go, and enjoy it in the back room of Duff's with a Metal Mark or a Manowar. You can also test your luck for $4 with the wheel of chance, and win Duff's merch, a free drink, or nothing. You're guaranteed to have a good time with good tunes.
Let me tell you a story about this fine establishment. Myself and a group of friends were in town for the Acidbath reunion show at the Parmount Theater. While in town, we decided to hit up the infamous Duff's to enjoy a few cold beers and soak in the world renowned, insane metal decor and atmosphere. This was our first time at Duff's and it did not disappoint. The metal history in this place is bar none. If you are a metal head and in Brooklyn, you MUST stop by. No excuses. Here is the interesting part of our visit. After hanging out for about an hour or two, we decided to hit the road back to our AirBnb a few miles away. Upon leaving the next day, I realized I did not have my wallet. Knowing that I had it at Duff's to buy some beer, it was either there or in the Uber we took back to the AirBnb. I was travelling back three hours to CT, so I could not wait around to stop by Duff's after they opened at 6 p.m. Luckily, no crazy charges on my cards, so that was a good sign. I did have ApplePay on my phone, thankfully. As I was making my train ride back to CT, I called the bar and left a message. I also messaged the Instagram page of the bar, asking if they had found a wallet. I received a message back quickly letting me know that there was a wallet found, but needed to wait for the bartenders to get in to verify if it was mine. Later on, a message confirming that it was. I asked if they could drop it in the mail and I offered to pay a finders fee to the team. I was quickly told that there was no need to pay and they would drop it in the mail the next day. As I write this, I have my wallet in hand, even with the $13 cash that was in it. The massive headache I was saved because of the great patrons and staff at this legendary establishment is appreciated beyond words. The amount of cards and IDs that would need to be replaced would have been such a hassle, as most of us probably know. For the team to put it in the mail quickly and refuse to take any compensation speaks volumes to the type of people that run this Brooklyn staple. Thank you Team Duff's. You are the real MVP's. Hail!
Been to Duff's two outta the three times I've come to NYC and enjoyed both times. It was MUCH busier this last time I went earlier August and I know I'm short and all but I felt I kept getting passed up at the bar for newer customers even with my card held out. When I did get to order I only wanted one round of drinks, but she didn't give me a chance to order anything else just said "it's a $20 minimum" and kept my card after I had already told her it was just the one round. I would have just ordered double and closed it out there since I knew they were so busy. prior to that was for my birthday before Christmas in 2019. :) will always come back for the atmosphere and music!
We’re from out of town we were recommended to go to this bar cause it’s all kind of music Bartender was phenomenal Sunday the 27th I think her name is Stephanie I’m writing this explicitly to tell the owner she’s awesome. You’ll do a great job. I met the owner a few nights ago at the acid bath concert. He was hanging out with Paul Booth. We made it to your bar just a little later than we wanted to, but it was a good time Thank you for the hospitality
My favorite bar ! Metal & reasonably priced drinks, what’s not to love ? I wish I lived closer. Love this place !!
Nice place for heavy metal death/Gothic Bartenders are super friendly, drinks are cheap, beer ice cold, music loud, but you can go to the back where you can sit and have a conversation with your friends or people you meet there, they have an old school jukebox where you can play your music, CD are changed once a month so each month you find new albums there, some creepy decoration items here and there, decoration is just amazing all the items displayed are signed by artists from drum heads, guitars, concert tickets and so on, no food tho but they allow you to get food from outside, best option is the dollar slice pizza up the corner. I've seen and met all kinds of people there, so i assume it's also LGBTQ friendly for the folks who are wondering, since I've seen some people who identify as. Having a drink and laugh, this is the place to go to have fun meet new people
This is a must for all Metal Heads who are in the area or passing through. The owner Jimmy is a good guy and I always run into to familiar faces and make new friends here. So much memorabilia from bands are all over the place and they even have some guitars on display, including a Bass guitar that was owned by Peter Steele of Type O Negative(see my pics). Duffs also host a celebration of Peter's life every April.
Duff's, Brooklyn is a sanctuary for metalheads, a in a city infected by pop, autotune and repetitive empty tunes, this bar stands a lone for the few metal spirits out there. The bar is packed with memorabilia, and a lot of the decoration is dedicated to local rockstar Peter Steele, creating an intense atmosphere that says heavy metal! Great music, cold beer. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the bartender knows how to pour a strong one. It's a dive bar with a unique vibe, where you can let loose and enjoy the raw energy. Whether you're there for the music, the drinks, or the unapologetically gritty ambiance, Duff's delivers a one-of-a-kind experience. Just be ready for a wild night. The only bad thing; Restroom stink badly.
This bar is brilliant. It’s absolute metal and fits every beautiful stereotype it should. The music is loud, fast, and heavy. The lighting is all red and and fits the room so well. There’s a massive collection of signed drum heads from all of the metal greats, legends, and current rockers. Photos and backstage passes are all over the walls. Staff is friendly and firm. Clientele talks rock and roll but is generally welcoming to strangers. It would be foolish not to wear black to the bar but every metalhead knows that. A gem of Brooklyn nightlife. Beer list is adequate and shots are great. They feature totally reasonable prices and it’s a very short walk from the subway. They offer cool bar merch to purchase. It’s not uncommon for patrons to scream along with the stereo. Really a gem of a rock and roll establishment.
Its a metalhead dive bar. Its exactly as it should be. The vibe is perfect for the crowd and they shouldn't change a thing. Lots of cool memorabilia from musicians and horror. No food rating because Nathan Explosion said booze ain't food
Classic Bar right off the Marcy stop! 5/5 Stars ! No frills , no gimmicks, just good people and solid drinks
Not at all my music but the crew and crowd were all excellent humans. Prices reasonable, wall-to-wall/ceiling of things to marvel at. Ladies room was a horrifyingly putrid experience but did not send us away . Will go again for sure!
Truly a hidden underground experience for dive bar connoisseurs. You must LOVE heavy metal music and nostalgia though. Not for the faint of heart this place, but great beer prices and definitely cool locals
A friend took me here the other night and I loved it. Rock n roll and horror fans will definitely feel at home. Great spot to meet like minded people who are willing to socialize.
Popular metal bar full of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.
It's almost hidden, look for the people outside and you'll find it. Once inside, you'll see the walls and ceilings lined with history and metal memorabilia, some of it really nice. There's no cover, however there's a $20 minimum on starting tabs. It's always nicely packed without it being suffocating. If you're a bar hopper, you'll like this spot. If you're a metal music fan, you'll like it more. If you're a Type O Negative fan, you'll love it!
Great place to relax with my friends. Grisly service.
Great metal bar, can't wait to go back 🤘🏻🍻
Great Bar, bottled beers only. But really nice flair. The Wheel of Misfortune is a nice treat and if you are in the rock/metal music scene, you'll love it here. Lots of lore and lots of good times an people.
Dive bar with a metal horror theme. I'd heard great things about the jukebox, but I have to say it's just OK. It's an older model that just has CDs so not a huge selection, really just a sampling. And just one Type O Negative CD, was hoping for a full discography. Still a fun place and worth the trip.
A unique dive bar with freaky decor: skulls, baby doll heads, tribal stuff and a creepy looking creature sitting on the couch. The lighting is a dark neon pink color. The music is grungy and the people are nice. I went on a Friday night with a hometown friend who came to visit. Not a bad place to hangout and look at the interesting decor they have. The bartender we had seemed knowledgeable and friendly. it's a whole in a place kind of bar, I've walked by this place several times before without noticing it's an actual bar. The memorabilia alone was something to look at. The creepy creature in the corner is a delight lol. Take your friends here for the unique decor and affordable drinks.
This place is really cool, so much nostalgic memorabilia. It just isn't really my vibe as I am not a huge heavy metal fan, If you are tho, you have to check this place out, I would definitely give it 5 stars if it was my vibe ... I didn't order any food so don't know about that, and the drink special was for beer that I don't enjoy, can't remember the name, maybe blue ribbon, Idk... the bartender was very friendly and the people there seemed friendly as well ... I would Def, recommend this spot to anyone who loves metal music, or just loves places that have nostalgia... the ambiance is a Lil on the Darkside, but in a cool way, not in a creepy way!
The manager was pretty bitchy with my group not letting one of my friends get into the bar because his ID was expired. Her attitude it’s a completely turn down for such a really cool bar. Unfurtonely management isn’t made for this. Won’t never see me.
it was a nice very tiny spot, the bartender we had was a hater for no reason, also really terrible at making drinks. we all ordered the same drink and one was way stronger than the other. only go here if u love metal, arent looking to meet anyone, drink straight up liquor, and dont mind terrible service
Bartender was extremely rude, demanded a tip for her pathetic service. Also dirty bathrooms.
