Super cute restaurant!! The staff was super nice and gave great recommendations! I got the spaghetti squash and meatballs and it was very good! I would highly recommend
Always the most friendly folks on here , large menu, all is good.
Patient and warm staff. Came in with my mom friends and our 3 toddlers. The food is obviously great too. 4:45pm is pretty empty so a great time to go if you have rambuctious kids or need to sit solo!
Writing this review because the staff at this location is absolutely incredible, kind, sweet and all around amazing. The food is obviously delicious, clean, and I never get an icky feeling after finishing a meal. But the people working here are phenomenal and I truly love visiting this location because of that.
We had such a lovely experience at Jack’s Wife Freda! The staff was incredibly accommodating, especially with our little one, which made the meal so much more enjoyable. The whole branzino was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented light, flavorful, and fresh. It’s such a welcoming spot with a great atmosphere, and they made us feel right at home. Definitely one of those places that’s as good for families as it is for a casual date or brunch with friends. Can’t wait to go back!
There was a small wait when we arrived, but we were welcomed to the bar. The service was top notch—really attentive and warm staff here. The food is just consistently comforting and delicious here. It’s our second time now and this particular spot might be a little Sunday routine for us from now on! What a gem in this neighborhood!
We had such a great time at Jack’s Wife Freda in Williamsburg last week for my wife’s birthday! The food was fantastic – everything we ordered was so delicious and cooked perfectly. But what really made the night special was the service and thoughtful little touches. Our server, Jade, was awesome. I asked if they could surprise my wife with a birthday dessert and candle, and also mentioned an inside joke about playing “Ratchet Happy Birthday” by Drake. Even though there weren’t speakers outside, Jade went out of her way to make it happen by playing the song on her own phone. It was such a fun, personal touch that really made the moment unforgettable. The staff was friendly and made sure everything was just right, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. At the end of the meal, I tried giving a little extra tip to show my appreciation, but Jade wouldn't take it and said she was just happy to make our day. Overall, it was an amazing experience all around – great food, great service, and a memorable celebration. We’ll definitely be back!
One of the best grilled fish we ever had in our lives. My friend recommended this place that I should definitely visit before flying back home. Here we are. It’s quite late afternoon before dinner so we ordered one main and one appetizer. We got grilled whole Brazino and the green shakshouka. OMG, I can’t believe that grilled fish skin could be this crispy meanwhile fish meat can be that moist. It went so well with the spicy sauce. It served with couscous and some veggie. The best combination. The green shakshouka was so-so for me. I probably wish they had more flavor and eggs were less cooked. It’s probably just my preference.🙂↔️ The store was so chilled. The staffs were super friendly and offered a lot of recommendation. It’s the last meal that completed our trip to NY.
I’ve been to the Soho location in the past so I figured I’d try out Brooklyn. True to my experience in Soho, it felt like I had just stepped into a quaint European cafe! The light airiness was super refreshing. While the food and drinks were good…it was our server Emmy who made our experience truly special. Right off the rip, she greeted us with a big smile and listened to us gripe about our horrible hotel experience. She even offered suggestions for other hotels on our next visit. When Emmy found out that my friend loves K-Pop and Asian food, she told us about a market a few blocks away that was a must visit. We took her advice and my friend was in heaven. We called the restaurant after to thank Emmy for the suggestion, which I’m guessing took her by surprise. To commemorate our exceptional experience, I bought one of your striped t-shirts and will wear it with pride. Thank you Emmy for delivering such perfect service and more importantly a memorable experience…you made our day! We hope to see you on our next visit to Brooklyn.
Everything was so good! The food, service, atmosphere. Overall just a very pleasant experience. We love our server, she was very helpful and polite, also thoughtful. The seating was very comfortable and it’s def one of those restaurants you would have to try when you’re in NYC! Nothing but praise. I ordered salmon burger with fries, it was so good. My mom had chicken schnitzel m, it was also very good. But the cherry on top was the pumpkin spice coffee. OMG you have to try!!! I want to drink 2 of those. I ordered light syrup but it was already very good.
My friend and I came here for breakfast on a Tuesday, and we had such a wonderful experience here!! I have a food allergy to all forms of soy (which is tricky to navigate when eating out), and our waiter was both knowledgeable and accommodating . My friend and I split the fried zucchini , the poached eggs with roasted tomato and halloumi, and the Maya's Breakfast Bowl (which I highly recommend!). Everything was fresh and flavorful, and I also loved their Bianca cocktail. We ate outside and the ambiance was fantastic (we got there at 12:30 with plenty of seating but the rest of the tables filled up by 1pm) . Can't wait to visit again!
My daughter had seen this place on TikTok so we checked it out. Ate outside on a beautiful spring day. Everything was extremely good and flavorful. Maya's Breakfast Bowl was really good and the spaghetti squash combined with the other ingredients made for a truly flavorful combination. The Green Shakshuka was a hit as well. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience here.
This place is just the cutest little thing. I love the West Village location and so happy to see they opened one in Williamsburg now too. The service is so friendly and sweet, the atmosphere is friendly and sweet. The food is delicious, just hits all the right spots. I had the spaghetti squash and it was amazing!!! The burger was also delicious too. Great food, great people, great vibe - this is my happy place :) It will be yours too
Jack's Wife Freda is the brilliant lovechild of the grandson of two immigrants, Jack and Freda, who met in Johannesburg in 1930. The first location opened in 2011 and they have 5 locations in NYC now! This weekend was our third visit to the very busy Brooklyn location and, per usual, it lived up to the hype!! This diverse menu offers an eclectic selection of mastered dishes inspired by South Africa, Israel and NYC, complimented by imaginative cocktails. We began with the Sunshine on Carmine and Margarita Rocks cocktails and the Fried Halloumi as an appetizer. I have indulged in fried Halloumi before, but JFW takes it up several notches! The brilliant combination of mildly hot spice, sweet grapes and drizzle of EVOO are the perfect partner to this cheese turning what could lean heavy to a light and lovely explosion of flavor! It was so delectable it was hard not to request a second order!!! For our entrees we selected the Salmon a la Plancha and Peri Peri Chicken. The Salmon was expertly prepared, brushed with a slightly sweet, nutty and tangy sesame soy glaze, slivers of radish, toasted sesame seeds and served over the most delicious tender sauteed kale!! A perfect plate for these hot summer days.. substantially satisfying but not too imposing The Peri Peri Chicken was incredible! A spatchcock chicken boasting a citrusy/spicy flavor, roasted to perfection but still tender and juicy! Served with a bright diced cucumber salad to offset the heat from the sliced jalapenos that top this beautiful chicken, it was a true culinary delight!!! Last, we decided to give Noam’s Malva Pudding a try after our attendant provided a spot-on flavor description. This very delicate, fluffy and light South African sponge cake is soaked in a sweet caramel syrup and served with a generous amount of fresh whipped cream. The cake was tender and vanilla forward and the whipped cream was not overly sweet, so it complimented the cake without overpowering the star of this incredible treat! I am always stoked when a restaurant maintains what made it outstanding for the long haul. JFW is one of those places..consistently delicious!! If you have not yet had the pleasure..do not wait another second, this NYC gem is well worth the visit!! I suggest a reservation, though walk-ins are welcome, as this place draws a crowd!!
Service was good, ambiance was nice and food was delicious. My only complaints are that the food portions are too small, especially for brunch. Also I do not recommend that short people sit at the bar. I’m 5’2” and I could swing my legs all I wanted even the foot rest on the bar stool was a tad too low for me. If I was just having drinks it would have been fine but eating becomes awkward cause you want to feel more grounded to lean in. They have two “everyone :)” restrooms one of which is pretty large with a frosted window with natural light.
Service was excellent, and the restaurant is very cute. I ordered the rosewater waffle with Sunrise drink. Both were decently tasty, but they don't compliment each other. The waffle comes with a yogurt which is more tart than sweet. I enjoyed my dish. My partner got the burger and said it wasn't really seasoned, but he really liked his drink, the Pimms No1. Overall I would say the flavors were on the milder side, so if you're in the mood for big bold flavors, opt for something other than the waffle or burger. I saw some other plates being served that looked good, and so I look forward to going back to try them. It's also pretty loud inside with lots of people chatting. Think "cafeteria" vibes.
Food was ok. Not great. Not bad. But... Oh, and this is a big but... the waitresses try to scam tips. I paid with my card and the waitress brought the portable pay device thing to my table. "I just need you to sign she said." What she didn't say was that she had entered the highest tip amount. I'm sorry, don't be a scam artist and press a tip amount for me. Don't assume the service was that spectacular or the food was great... because neither was. Don't try to hide your actions by asking me to sign when there's a tip being added without my permission. Disgusting behavior from those types.
