The staff is very friendly, and the food is always delicious, especially the lamb pelmeni (dumplings) and apple strudel with ice cream. They have live music closer to evening. It is a good place to stop by to have dinner, or to have a birthday celebration in.

My buddy and I both got lamb kabobs and home fries. Food was great. I was here about eleven years too. The place hasn't changed. Still good food and still good service. Reasonable prices too, all things considered.

Perfect pickled veggies, although $15, and huge. 5 people can share this. Fried chicken schnitzel with the fried veggies was excellent as well. Good service, and was charged a 10% auto gratuity. Russian beer was great and reasonably priced.

Great food and great service! What we ate: Smoked mackerel which was serve with potatoes with garlic and lemon, Stuffed cabbage , stuffed with meat and rice, Ukrainian borscht, which is a beet and chicken soup, Special ribs with couscous Georgian wine, semi sweet and Beer. Everything was served very well. Overall a great experience! Absolutely recommend.

Excellent food! You must try the borscht, beef stroganoff and the pelmeni meat dumplings! The ambience transports you to Russia. They do live music and the place is large enough for large parties.

I can eat their pelmeni until I can't breathe with no regrets.

Delicious! Had a small Caesar salad to start. Then liver and onions, which came with summer vegetables sauteed in a balsamic vinegar based sauce. A friend who was with me ordered the same salad and then pork dish kebab. He very much enjoyed his dish, as I did mine. We were eating at about one PM on. Tuesday, a very warm summer afternoon. I was surprised that, apart from the two of us, there was only one other table with diners. This restaurant deserves more people at lunch time.

My wife and I would like to check out a Russian restaurant while visiting Brighton Beach first time and authenticity of Russian cuisine. Skovorodka was a first restaurant on our way and we decided to try it. We were only customers at that time, so received full attention of two waiters. We ordered borscht, mashroom soup, shashlyk and vareniki and we're fully satisfied, like eating home. The cook prepared and served all dishes very professionally. Prices were reasonable. When I asked about other Russian restaurants nearby, the waiter recommended few in vicinity. We couldn't visit them on same day because we were full. We couldn't finish our vareniki, which were carefully packed into aluminum containers, and we brought them home not spilling a drop. We recommend Skovorodka and going to visit it again when visit Brighton Beach next time

Delicious. We both had a different fish and the sides were generous as well. They were accommodating of gluten free requests but its not explicit on the menu. There is live music/ a DJ here on the weekends for private parties.

We were there a couple weeks ago. Both me and my husband are from Ukraine originally. The food and the service were perfect! We really appreciated the professionalism of the staff. Great job! Definitely recommend!

Great Russian/Ukrainian/Ethnic Former Soviet Republic Satellite (Georgian, Armenian) good. Authentic and you can tell it's home made. Reasonable prices, fresh with quality ingredients! Place had always been clean and servers professional. One of my favorite in Brighton beach area, even Brooklyn for that matter. Eggplant salad, salad Olivier have always been fresh and refrigerated (even when the summer temps have been 100+; important when eating a Mayo based salad) and the chicken kabob has always been flavorful, juicy (NOT undercooked, or burnt for that matter...) And the triple espresso really wakes you up after eating heavy foods. Close to the beach and a great place to her something to eat in Little Odessa for lunch or dinner. Let's put out this way, Russian and Ukrainian émigrés eat here... They know authentic food. Also, ambience is decorative-festive (you can take company here), I took a co-worker here who was unfamiliar with Russian food, and they loved it. Expect slighter longer wait times for your food, especially if they're busy, but a small price to pay for the freshness and quality.

DELICIOUS FOOD! My mouth still waters when I think about the food I ate here. The prices were right and they had a great menu selection. It also has a unique atmosphere and very polite staff, even though some of them don't speak English very well. I will definitely come here again!

It's a beautiful place! Here you can eat delicious and not expensive ... If you want to relax and are looking for a quiet place, Brighton is the place to be! Lunch in the afternoon is well priced. In the evening quiet music ... The staff are friendly and good service. One of the best places in Brighton ! Been going for many years and everything is unchanged to a good standard !

Authentic in every way imaginable. Stuffed cabbage and beef stroganoff were amazing and we ordered the potatoes with mushrooms for our appetizer…oh my God! We loved the service, direct from the owner it seemed, no funny business. We sat right by the bar, where big mugs of Russian beer, vodka bottles and samovars came and went to tables of couples having a wonderful time. The back of the restaurant was a dance floor with Russian pop music and a DJ, lots of people dancing. Great stuff.

Excellent food! Has apparently been here 17 years. Has to be good to compete with all nearby good food eateries and market with good cooked food immediately nearby. Highly recommend Pike fish meatball and julliene

Authentic Russian and Eastern European food. Highly recommend their котлеты домашние and a bowl of борщ as an appetizer. Very affordable prices and much more of an authentic feel than Tatiana's by the beach. The waiters however don't speak much English, so it's best to familiarize yourself with Russian text or clearly point at the menus, if you want everything to go smoothly.

I stopped by for a late lunch with my husband yesterday. The food was absolutely amazing, service was fast, I was quite pleased with the whole experience. As a Russian I can say the taste of the dishes is authentic, my American husband also enjoyed his meal. Highly recommend!

The food was delicious (we loved the pelmeni and kompot!), but even more so than that, we LOVED the service and atmosphere! My husband (who, unlike me and my sister, doesn’t speak Russian) felt very included and cared for by the staff. I can’t wait to come back on my next trip to Brighton Beach!!!

A

Although restaurant named not delicious or inviting label, I was very pleasantly surprised by humble interior and amazing food. I ordered Pelmeni Siberian, Julien, Tongue Salad and Crepes w/apple, and I strongly recommend all of it. At the end check was surprisingly cheap too. Love this place and definitely will come back!

We dined from the appetizer menu. The farmers cheese blitzes could have been made by angels, so light and tender.. forgive me, Mother, the best I've ever had. Fresh, ultra crisp pickles and a scrumptious dumpling platter...3 kinds, wonderful mushroom soup, a. Ukrainian feast. The service was terrific. Silent Russian music videos were entertaining.

K

Super tasty food! We had the menu option, where you can try 3 different dishes for $14!! We had the traditional dishes from Ukraine, Borshch and Olive and then some other delicious traditional dishes. About the service: 10/10! They speak both Russian and English with no problem at all, and the service was just great. Very friendly!

The food was delicious, fresh and fast out of the kitchen. I especially liked the "home cooking" taste that took me back to my childhood. The plates were large enough to share. We shared pelmeni and piroshki between two people and had just the right amount of food to eat. People in our party said it was the best Russian food they had, well worth a trip out to Brighton Beach!

Had lunch with a mix of Russians and Americans. Tastes like home. Really good cuisine. Get kompot, fruit punch, it’s amazing. We ordered olivie, solyanka, two types of shashlik and beef stroganoff. Everything was super.

Stereotypical Russian place like in an American movies, but food is not that bad. I liked what I ordered, a waiter was nice.

R

I have to start by saying that although I'm of Russian heritage, I'm not a fan of most Russian restaurants. They tend to be overpriced, gaudy, and most have poorly seasoned unflavorful food. That is not true for Skovorodka. I've been here several times and the food has been great every single time. Proportions are fair for the price and overall I left feeling very full. Banquet is a little bit underwhelming for the price, I'd recommend getting individual dishes instead. I also recommend the pork "podzharka" - very tasty. Decor is a bit eclectic but I liked it. Your mileage may vary, Russian places don't really go for subtle. Service was also pretty good.

One of the best borscht in Brighton (this is very controversial based on who you ask). As a local I usually disregard Skovorodka because of the garish groups of folks who like to frequent the place so it’s usually takeout for me but took a chance and was pleasantly surprised one Saturday night. Service was so nice and attentive, food was fresh fresh fresh and perfect for a cold winter dinner. With ending of indoor dinner, def visit for their takeout their kitchen will produce same quality foods! Their kompot is on point! Fresh bread with sour cream and a heavy hearty savory borscht what more can you ask for?

I neglected to take pictures but trust me. We were a party of 7 and we had at least 14 different dishes + desserts, all at the suggestion of our waiter, Eric. He was a character, a kind of performance art. The dishes were a bit slow to arrive but OH SO worth the wait. Parking can be an issue. There's a municipal a few blocks away. Definitely worth the trip and your time.

This is not a cuisine I was especially familiar with so we simply asked the waiter what we should order and he brought out 3 amazing dishes. Would definitely recommend this restaurant especially if you want to try new foods

Went here for a friend’s birthday and it was an experience. The food was pretty good. We got mixed smoked meat platter, mixed smoked fish platter, pickled vegetable platter, pirogies, red borscht, potatoes with mushrooms, and kebab platter. A few dishes were amazing, particularly the pickled grapes and the potatoes. The pirogies were also super doughy and almost like a donut texture—also very good. The kebab platter and smoked meats were fine. The smoked fish platter was a little overpowering and could have used something to balance the intense flavor; the borscht was bland. The best part was the scene. Tons of Georgian and Russian folks dancing with an old guy doing the one man band thing playing keyboard, sax, and singing (belting out songs like “Do the Twist”, “Dancing Queen”, and… “Proud to be an American”(not your normal dancing song)). One of my friends said this was a “spiritual relative” though not culinary relative to Sammy’s Roumanian (our first choice but has been mysteriously closed the last few weeks). I’ll take the food at Sammy’s over Skovorodka—especially Sammy’s chopped liver—but this place wins the vibe war by a mile.

Beef stroganoff was creamy and delicious but the Skovorodka pierogies surprised us with how fresh they were. Seemed authentic - waiters spoke English but everyone dining were speaking russian/Eastern European language. Live music was fun!

Delicious authentic Russian Ukrainian food in a cozy setting. This is as real as it gets in Brighton beach!

Jessie Deardorff
Jessie Deardorff

Aggressively cold, thinly veiled rage type customer service. I sat 5 feet from a man behind a desk watching media on the computer, the general theme of which was loud domestic disputes, mistrust, and anguish. Dusty, pseudo fancy, dollar store holiday decor left up year round, a cornucopia of mismatched interior design styles. The leather wall runners with large rhinestones give sweet 16 energy and the TJ Max French bathroom elicits suburban housewife despair. The Jimi Hendricks and chimpanzee with headphones on posters set the mood for my borscht. I dined here cause it was right off the subway & I hadn’t packed a beach lunch. But I was told just now they changed their Google search to say Ukrainian restaurant when it is in fact a Russian establishment. That is deceptive and honestly adds clarity to what I experienced here. Even so, might be back for dinner

It was our first time here and we liked it!! Live russian music (you don’t have to pay additionally for it) it just taking you back to 90-s, service is very good, food is tasty. The only thing is that meat in pirozhki and vareniki was processed too finely, not chopped which my husband didn’t like and I didn’t find okroshka and manty in menu.

Paul Cray
Paul Cray

Pelmeni were absolutely delicious. The dishes we mainly sampled were appetizers but that’s only because we wanted to try a little of everything that is truly Russian cuisine. It’s on par with my great-grandmother’s recipes as far as quality. The service was also exceptional, more than one server looked after our table to ensure we had the table cleared for new dishes coming from the kitchen and additionally, they spoke both English and Russian.

D
David R

Pricey but decent Russian food. Service good and straightforward. Goat cheese salad: was surprisingly good, one of the best things we tried. Really recommend Blini with salmon caviar: pretty straightforward and standard dish. Blini seem like the frozen variety, not home made, so they’re just ok. But the ikra was fresh and good quality so overall we really enjoyed Siberian Pelmeni: really nothing special. They taste like the frozen ones from store. It’s just ok Georgian sausage main dish: really nicely spiced and good quality sausage, mashed potatoes it comes with are also satisfying Chicken Tabaka: nothing special, just a pan fried chicken. It’s ok. Georgian red wine: really good wine, have to come back for it. Highly recommend Overall, satisfying experience but not mind blowing. Salad, Georgian sausage, and Georgian wine are stars of the night

R

The pelmeni, borscht, and beef stroganoff were spot on; meat blini was not the best and kompot was a little too sweet in my opinion, great vibes nonetheless

Boris Shemkar
Boris Shemkar

Good restaurant with good authentic Russian food. The dishes are quite big. Especially I liked the Borscht soup, Kharcho soup, pirogi and the beef stroganoff. What I didn't like is that they automatically included 10% service in the bill and added suggestions for 15% and higher at the end of the bill, so if you don't notice, you will pay double service... Also, their menu says that prices in the menu are subject to change without notice.

If going on the weekend, make a reservation!!! Can't go wrong with zharkoye and an apple strudel. No draft beer, but Baltika will do. Fair prices for what it is, live music, avoid table in the hallway. Cesar salad is nothing special. Descent service. Escargot is fun, but pretty oily.

M
Michele Garone Gersten

We were a group of 32 people, and we were served family style. Appetizers were potato salad, roast beef, turkey, herring, chopped liver, bread & butter, a platter with grapes, watermelon, cole slaw, a whole tomato, and pickles. Weird thing is, everything on the platter tasted like the pickles (yuk!). Everyone commented on this!! Entrees we're pierogi, chicken pieces and spicy sausage. A pasta dish, which was very good was with a white fish, creme sauce, & nice mushrooms. Dessert was a small tasty apple crepe. All in all, the meal was ok, but as a group, I wouldn't return. Regular menu looked good.

N
Natalia Bilash

We had two lunch specials here earlier today. The restaurant is large although at lunchtime today it was nearly empty with only one other couple having a meal. The first lunch special included a garden salad, Ukrainian borsch and tabaka half chicken and the other lunch special included an olivye salad, green borsch and chicken shish kebab. Overall the meal was ok, but sadly the cold green borsch tasted like dishwater with floating pieces of fresh cucumber. I've never seen green borsch served with fresh cucumbers and furthermore, it's supposed to be made with sorrel while this dish had chunks of what looked like old spinach. Sadly the soup had no taste at all and after having 1-2 spoonfuls, I didn't eat it. The chicken dishes were very tender, juicy and tasty. When the final bill arrived, we were surprised to see a 10% service charge added to it. I thought it odd, since there was a lack of service and perhaps they wanted to guarantee a tip, one we would not have left since other than bringing us our dishes, they did little else.

L
Local Guide

Honestly I wouldn't come here again. Some food wasn't that good, some was decent. Vareniki with potatoes were decent. Olevye was good but we make it better lol. Home fries were completely lacking taste and very bland, absolutely no salt at all. The servers were nice and seemed quick but when one of them was asking if anyone wanted more alcohol, I said I did, he acknowledged me but then never actually poured it for me. Also finding parking was a nightmare, but we realized the beach parking lot was very close and only charged $2.50/hr so we finally parked there and it was a very short 5 min walk to the restaurant thankfully. This was in mid afternoon though, so at night it's probably hard to get a spot.

C
Charles Manning

I was surprised at how good the food was. Some of it, anyway. The potato salad had tuna in it, which was a surprise, and not a welcome one, but the hot borscht with sour cream was great - very flavorful. Unfortunately, when the waiter came out of the kitchen holding it in one hand, he had a dustpan and broom in the other, which he dropped off in a closet before bringing me my soup. The service in general was really slow, but not unpleasant. The Georgian-style chicken I had for an entree was very tasty, but I could have done without the coleslaw on the side. It just wasn't very good. The decor is pretty cheesy - with TVs playing Russian TV at either end of the room - but whatever. I wouldn't make a point of going back, but if I found myself nearby and feeling hungry, I might give it a second try. As long as I had at least an hour to wait. Again, the service was really slow.

Y
Yulia S

Went here for dinner with a friend of mine on a Tuesday night and the place was empty which is perfectly fine. Food was great, authentic Russian cuisine. Service was borderline rude. The only person that was nicer is their manager. All the servers just sounded like they were doing us a favor the entire time. Food was brought at the most peculiar times and orders misplaced. We were in the middle of eating our salad when they brought soup and same thing with deserts which made them cold by the time we got to them. Not to mention we had to hurry up with the main dishes. When one of the servers brought a water jug he just put it on the table and left without saying a word( hello, thank you, maybe pour it in a glass??). After all that they forgot one of our drinks and were really confused and not happy when we asked to replace one of the sauces. Overall its a great place for food but not so much service, not at all actually.

T
T R

Food was very good. BUT!!! Waiters - dirty uniforms ( it was not even uniform ) Interior has a lot of rare things and a lot of dust on it. Owner should change a singer he’s very old and doesn’t know what he’s doing with new songs it was so so bad!

C

Decent Russian food options, good sibirskie pelmeni, below average cherry dumplings. Sitting by the window is OK, it's pretty dark in the back. Would come back for the pelmeni.

j
jessie mayfield

I loved the food, I had pan fried potatoes and mushrooms, asked for cheese and they kindly added it for me. The place was clean and quiet but they didn’t have any steaks that were on the menu, and made my friend wait 20 mins after my food to get hers, which was awkward as you can imagine.

K

The food was great I have no complaint about it. We ordered mushroom soup, pelmeni with lamb, kompot, bifstroganov, beef shashlik and chicken shashlik. As I said the food was good but the service was bad. The waiter (aged guy) was so rude that I felt not welcomed at all. Never come back there again.

In Russian we say "Так себе .. лучше дома поесть." in English its So So better eat at home for that much money ... Its two star place with 5 star prices .. The food was not that good .. mostly frozen stuff which was heated up .. Very disappointed... They have soups . which are good but the rest .. needs lots of improvements... The desert is very poor .. The service was ok again only because everything was precooked)) But not the way people expect . Why to spend so much money to eat frozen food ?? The atmosphere was good ..nice musician is on premises

Not planned to write a comment But borsch is 2/10, poor service Atmosphere of 1990 Not worth a buck Come here if you’re starving and there are no other options as it was in my case

Restaurant is beautiful. Food was average. I tried much better Russian food. The main problem is that the Manager was very rude and creepy. They also force a service fee on you meanwhile the service sucked. He refrained from telling me that his credit card machine wasn't working so I had to go out in the cold looking for an ATM which my bank charged me a fee for. Totally unfair

Got brought food we did not order and got charged for it. Mediocre food. Service not so great. Cool neighborhood, though. Not worth the price.

We were excited to try this place but left underwhelmed. The $30 beef stroganoff tasted like it came from a boxed mix, and we were charged an extra $4 for vegetables—which, to be fair, were the best part of the meal. The duck was extremely dry, the couscous bland, and the borscht inconsistent—one bowl didn’t even have potatoes or beets. The ambiance wasn’t bad; there was live music that was just okay, and the crowd skewed older. Service was friendly, but a 10% service charge was automatically added, which felt a bit presumptuous. With so many better Russian food options nearby, I wouldn’t return.

Service was slow and food was bland. Waiter came by with bread that tasted like stale packaged bread from the supermarket. They could have at least heated up the bread. Ordered some chicken, it was okay. The rice tasted like minute rice. The only other thing on the plate was lettuce, which the chicken was placed on top of and sliced raw red onions. Disappointing meal.

Very nice decor inside and that’s about it about that place. We come for lunch special on March 8 I ordered everything from lunch special menu besides escargot so everything server bring was wrong. First escargot I order was”escargot with garlic sauce “ I got one with cheese for extra charge. When we got check everything was regular price and when I had concern server sad it’s Holliday it would nice to know before we ordered everything and anyway last time I checked March 8 is not American National Holliday and even when you make up that it is let me know so I make decisions. About flavor soups that we ordered was so bland just lost my time. Never coming back. Communication is not a key over there just money that they trying to get from you. Good Luck or better try find something woof experience.

Very disappointed, portions are too small for this price. And you don't feel welcomed.

My friend was visiting from out of town and loves Eastern European food, so on a Friday afternoon in Brighton Beach, we decided to try Skovorodka. We had originally planned to check out Tashkent Supermarket, but the hectic energy there triggered my friend’s anxiety, so we looked for a sit-down place instead and found Skovorodka nearby. As soon as we stepped inside, an older man—possibly the owner or manager—walked right up and just stared at us. I gave a polite wave; he kind of nodded or grunted. Then he suddenly yelled something in another language (maybe at someone behind us?) and said “COME,” motioning us inside. When seating us, he mimicked the way I’d looked around the restaurant—like a weird impression of my head turning—then said “It’s OK” and walked off. It was bizarre, and honestly kind of rude. The restaurant itself was clean and mostly empty around 5 PM. We got menus and ended up ordering from the same man: I got the chicken noodle soup, and my friend ordered the chicken cutlets. My soup came out almost instantly—it was just OK, mostly broth and noodles, no chicken. After some time passed, the man came back to our table and just stood there silently. Thinking he was checking in, I said, “She’s just waiting on the chicken cutlets.” That triggered some kind of attitude—he threw his hands up like I was complaining and snapped, “Chicken cutlet not like water!” No “coming right up,” no explanation, just hostility. The whole experience felt awkward and tense. I wasn’t rude, I wasn’t impatient—frankly I go out of my way to be easygoing at restaurants because I know how tough the service industry can be. But this guy made my friend and I feel unwelcome and uncomfortable from the moment we walked in. The cutlets themselves were actually pretty good, and there was a younger server who seemed much friendlier. But that older man soured the entire visit. I love coming down to Coney and Brighton to explore new spots—but unfortunately, Skovorodka won’t be one I return to.

OMG. Don’t know where to begin with this one. We ordered Country Salads and the menu said romaine lettuce. When the salads came to the table it was iceberg and the manager said that’s romaine. Service was horrible. So was the salad. Never going again. Spend your money elsewhere.

I will not come back to this place for several reasons. Food was not cooked completely. The server brought different dishes that we didn’t even order and started to argue that we did. Such a bad experience. The prices are high for the quality that they have.

The waiter (old aged man) was talking nonstop and interrupting with anything we want to order. He brought us 2 dishes that we didn't order and forced us to have them, then got upset when we refused. Also, the music was loud and annoying, not in English. I ordered Shrimp in white sauce and it was delicious, that was the only good thing about the restaurant.
