Food and service were top notch. We arrived at the restaurant on time but the seating wasn’t available. Host was very transparent and let us know it would be a few mins. Keep in mind the restaurant entrance is very small so be patient. Our waiter was fantastic (I wish I remember his name) After we ate the host brought me and my guest a comp glass of champagne due to our initial wait upon arrival. Very unexpected but very nice! Chicken empanadas are the best I’ve never had! I will be coming back!
First time having Uruguay food and it definitely did not disappoint. Usually when you first try a new food cuisine it's a 50/50 chance especially with no formal recommendations before going head first. Tabaré is it for me. From the story on the back of the menu to the heartwarming staff - this place is a gem. The food was outstanding and ambiance is a thing of its own. I will definitely be returning back with both friends and family
Dreamy and intimate atmosphere, perfect for a very intimate dinner. The service was great—fast, friendly, and efficient. The food tasted amazing! I don’t like olives, but I tried the empanadas with olives, and the whole flavor made me forget about my hatred for them for a moment. I ordered the burger temp medium, and it was spot on! This is a great place, and I would highly recommend it.
I absolutely ADORE this spot. So intimate and cozy. Food is to die for. And bartender was excellent. Best spot for date night. The empanadas, beet salad and churrasco are some of my favorites. Can't wait to go back!
We really liked this place! Vibe: the restaurant is really well decorated and the service was very nice! Food: we only went to try the chivitos and they were authentic and delicious. We also tried the alfajor, which was delicious but not the classic Uruguayan alfajor. Overall: recommended to try! we saw also good selection wines in the menu with fair prices
This was 1st time at TABARÉ and I can assure you it would not be my last, I originally searched for Thai restaurant two doors down. However, the vibes at Tabaré stole my heart. This place made me feel at home from the moment I walked by. Be back soon with some hungry troops. 🍹😁🦊⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you’ve never tried crowd-pleasing Uruguayan food, think: Italian + grilling out (with the best grass-fed beef). Tabare knocks it out of the park with their traditional starters, homemade pasta, steak, chivito (a sandwich for burger lovers), and omg that dulce de leche flan is the best I’ve had anywhere. Both locations are fantastic with a cozy atmosphere and curated nostalgic Uruguayan decor!
Took my coworkers to introduce them to Uruguayan cuisine and they loved it. The grilled provolone was a hit, as were the chivitos. There was a mushroom croquette special that was also standout good.
The beef empanadas were to die for. The best empanadas I’ve had in New York so far. I also got the homemade pappardelle which was delicious! My friend got the chicken Milanese and he really enjoyed it. Looking forward to coming back to try the other dishes on the menu! The service was great as well! They do only take cash or Amex so a heads up.
This place is so lovely! The happy hour is a ‘steal’ in BK with $3 well shots and the food is absolutely mind blowing. We had the burrata, skirt stead and seafood ravioli. Hands down the most delicious we’ve ever tasted. Martin made our experience absolutely incredible with his amazing attention to detail and great personality. Will come back again and recommend.
The ambiance, food, service, drinks was amazing. My husband especially loved the blood sausage bcz it reminds him of Trinidad style black pooping. And I loved the dessert, Flan de Dulce De Leche and the cabbage and mozzarella rolls with a side of arugula. My photos aren’t the best bcz of the low light romantic atmosphere, lol.
What gem this place is. I came in with another friend, we both order a burger and a steak to share and let me just tell you that steak was cooked to perfection and very flavorful. The burger was a tasty and big. The beef empanadas with their home made chimichurri are something else as well. Service was great, including management. When the bill came we couldn't believe how affordable this place is. Highly recommend this spot.
Had the best empanadas of my life here - one beef, one caramelized onions and gruyere. To die for, please do yourself a favor and try them. Also ordered the bife a caballo steak which was tender and rich. The ambiance is picturesque and cute, great for a date or quality time with family, service was excellent. 10/10 - don’t even remember the last time I gave a NYC restaurant this grade. I’m happy now 🤤
Very friendly crew. The food was very good. We tried and share a big part of the menu. I loved the blood saussage and the steak.
Excellent!!! Service was impeccable. Friendly waiters and food was so good! We had the Churrasco and bloody Mary. Also price was insanely good for everything we got! My sister wasn't happy with the sangria but honestly I was so happy with everything else that I'm willing to overlook that and give this place 5 stars because they even changed it for another drink. Can't recommend this place enough!
The atmosphere was really pleasant, a comfortable place to enjoy a good meal. The staff were friendly and easy to chat with, which made the experience even nicer. I recommend the steak, and my friend had the churrasco, which was also excellent. Overall, it felt like a relaxed spot with good food and service.
After surfing through a few results that had mixed reviews, I landed on this spot in Williamsburg. Solid amount of stars and reviews (you can also tell a lot about a place that has a nice website, duh) intrigued me so I clicked through. Sorted through the photos of the food and they definitely had the steak I was looking for but I needed to confirm a few other things - do they require reservations? When are they serving dinner? Is this place a hole-in-the-wall (I don't mind holes-in-the-wall, just wasn't what I was looking that afternoon)? I double check their Yelp page and the site and I was glad to see that no reservations are required and dinner was starting at 5 - cocktails and empanadas were available until 5 came around. They have a nice dining room/bar area with a nice little dining area in the back, and also outdoors in the front. I wanted to be inside that day considering the high temps due to the humidity. I finally get to the spot, and I say finally because I had to go back to 14th St Manhattan and connect from there to get to Williamsburg, 23 mins before they start to serve dinner. When I walked in I felt a very intimate yet lively latin vibe - it was dimly lit and there was good music being played at a comfortable volume. I don't like it when I'm dining out and the server and I have to compete over the music to hear each other so these guys definitely had it right. I would definitely bring a date here. I was greeted by the bartender and let him know I wanted to grab a solo seat for dinner. He asked if I had a reservation, which I thought was a little odd and led me to believe Yelp and the website wasn't up-to-date but when I replied no, he said it was no issue. He told me to grab a seat anywhere I liked so I sat at the bar and he advised me that they won't start serving dinner until 5 o'clock as I mentioned previously. After I got myself situated, I excused myself to the bathroom to wash up. I took note of the back dining area which was really nice. The bathroom was clean and it looks like they take care of it on the regular so those are more points in my book. I got back to my seat and the bartender pours me a glass of water and leaves a bottle at the table. I should've asked if they had sparkling and opted for that. The tap-water is just way too warm, but it was what it was. I didn't opt for any other drinks, considering I don't drink sodas or alcohol. Bartender handed me a menu which confused me for a bit because it seemed like it was drink menu - it was smaller than size than a normal menu. I'm browsing through and noticed at the bottom of the menu, besides their wifi network and password, they only take cash and American Express. Odd but maybe that's a NY restaurant thing? I double-checked that with the bartender and he said they have an ATM in the back in case I needed it. Turns out I had enough cash on hand and continue looking over the menu. I get to the entrees and I find the Churrasco and I let the bartender I wanted that medium. I should've asked him if they could throw an over-easy egg on top. About 15-20 minutes later, one of the BEST steaks I ever had was served. The presentation was amazing! The steak was cooked to perfection - nice and tender and the color was just right. It came with a side of chimichurri which unlike other ones I've had, wasn't too salty. As you can see in the photo I took, the steak also came with a side of greens and these potatoes that were like no other, crispy on the outside and perfectly baked on the inside. All-in-all I would definitely come back to Tabaré and I'm willing to bet everything else on their menu is just as out-of-this-world as this steak!
Serving traditional Uruguayan food, their churrasco (steak) is unbelievable ~ full of flavor and sauce. I would also recommend their empanadas. The beef & onion was my favorite, but the kale one was also good. The staff are incredibly kind and were able to make space for us at the bar when all the tables were reserved, which, as a protip, is a kind reminder to make a reservation.
This is one of the most beautiful gastronomic experiences of my life. As a Uruguayan, I felt at home while having this meal. Typically local restaurants just try replicating the culture of the place of origin. Tabare is different, they shared a personal story for what Uruguayan means to them, and it’s their own interpretation. I loved it.
The staff is very friendly and the food is great. If you're looking for a quick bite the empanadas are to die for. Tabare offers a small but good selection of red wines some imported from Uruguay. The appetizers are really good as well as the entrees. It's an awesome experience and a pleasure to eat at Tabare.
Great customer service! They accommodated to my 13-year old son and I very well! The food was amazing! (We had the Churrasco skirt steak). Drinks are delish and Dulce de leche flan melts in your mouth like silk! Very delicious. The aesthetic was artisan and cozy. Will come again. Thank you for offering us a special evening!
Great place and the food is so tastefully delicious!!!! Highly recommended! Great atmosphere for a dinner but also very cozy for brunch!!! The staff is great and very friendly and welcoming!!! I am definitely going back for dinner! They also have a fixed price menu for brunch that is great too!!!
This rustic restaurant has the best meats and food. Like stepping into a cabin in Uruguayan countryside and your friends great you with the best cuts from the farm - grass fed beef, blood sausage, chicken and more. Good selection of wines and cocktails. The empanada appetizers and blood sausage toast with an egg were spectacular! Coming back soon to eat the menu
Adorable outdoor spot. We had our dog with us and was able to take the table for outdoor seatings. It was 88F outside but it has a cover and they turned the fan on which provided plenty of airflow and comfort. $20 pre fixe brunch, including one main, one alcoholic drink, and one coffee. Foods were so delicious and staff was so friendly. Loved it and will come back for dinner one day. Their backyards area has string lights and look so cute for a date.
Best spot I’ve tried so far in 2024 We had the empanadas. I liked the cheese one more than the beef––the cheese empanadas was simply divine. Then we had the grilled octopus casserole. I’ve never had octopus in that form before but it was so good and hearty! perfectly seasoned. Then we had the chivito completo and the medium rare famous uruguayan steak. so good!! maybe a bit filling but the steak was amazing, it was juicy, etc and the dipping sauce was great. for wine, we had the 2021 argentina malbec. good stuff! great atmosphere
This place is amazing. A true gem in Williamsburg. The food is great, service was perfect and there is a good atmosphere. We had empanadas, mussels and a steak and everything was very good quality. I particularly loved the service, they were super kind but never invasive. The price is exteemely fair considering the quality. Truly reccommended.
10/10 drinks, atmosphere, and service! We went for happy hour and the cocktails were $10 each. El Gacho - 10/10: smooth, sweet and tart. Easy to drink. La Sombra - 8/10: heavy on the burn on taste for anyone that likes bourbon. Pituco - 9/10: tastes like juice! Easy to drink and super tasty Zabala- 8/10: you’ll love this if you love dulce de leche. Barely tasted alcohol but got me drunk lol We also got empanadas to try, and they were sooo good, I can’t wait to try other food! Will 100% be coming back here for Happy hour, regular dining and brunch special <3
Lovely little local gem in Williamsburg! Visiting from London, we've never had Uruguayan food before before so this was a delightful find. The empanadas were heavenly and cocktails delicious. Most of all though, the ambiance of the place is very cool. Loved it! Note: They only take Amex or cash - so come prepared if you're a foreign visitor!
Fresh ingredients and cozy, intimate dinner vibe. Loved the cheese croquette, grilled octopus, and duck fat potatoes. Grilled whole branzino was also light and cooked well. Skirt steak was a little tough for my liking.
My first time trying Uruguayan food! Dishes were great. Unique flavors but still felt familiar and had a large portion size. Nice service too.
Perfect! Giovanny make our family night an excellent one. The food was amazing: proveletta and chicken empanadas to start. For dinner, the ribeye, el chivito, and the hamburger. Also, we had a great choice of wines and beers. Thanks!
I ride hard for this restaurant because not only is the food delicious and well priced, but it is one of increasingly few restaurants in the area (or even the city...) where you can sit down at 10:30 or 11:00pm and have a full meal without being rushed. This has become a vestige of old New York because people have started eating so early since covid. Drives me crazy. Thank god for Tabare. It's also super cozy and dark, great for small groups or a date.
We visited the Bushwick location first and after having such a great meal, we decided to try this one as well. Unfortunately, they don’t offer the parrillada for one or two like in Bushwick, but the service, food, and overall experience were still excellent. We ended up ordering the ribeye and the breaded chicken — both were outstanding and exactly what we were hoping for. Our server really stood out with great attention and service.
One of my favorite local meat spot! They do corkage fee, which I personally HIGHLY appreciate as I am a wine enthusiast and love enjoying some of my wines with dinner. Their pricing is great, specifically for New York. They offer a limited menu which I personally like, that usually means they do whatever they have on the menu with fresh produce. Typically they have 2 pieces of meat they offer, I always tend to go for the churrasco, the best option in my mind. They do as well fresh pasta (usually different every time we've been there) and those are usually quite tasty as well! In terms of appetizers, we've tried the blood sausage and their empanadas, both are great. The atmosphere is simple, and nothing like a fancy steakhouse but for the price and the quality, I will definitely keep going there, specifically with their (relatively affordable) corkage fee!
A great little brunch spot with a meat-centric menu. Lots of Uruguayan beef, empanadas, steaks. The food was good, piping hot, and the the brunch service offers a cocktail and a coffee added to your meal for $8. Overall the prices were good, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere is very fun and welcoming. The service was slightly odd, a little slow for it being so quiet on a Saturday afternoon, but it’s a great place to relax.
I recently went to Tabaré with three girlfriends and we had the most amazing time! We were lucky enough to catch the last half hour of happy hour, which was the perfect start to the evening. For starters, we ordered the mussels with the most delicious brioche toast and the seafood casserole—both were absolutely divine. For our main course, we shared the skirt steak and ribeye, and I have to say, it was some of the best steak I’ve had in a very long time! To end on a sweet note, we split the chocolate cookie and flan, both of which were dreamy. The service and ambience were a 10/10. Our waiter was attentive, welcoming, and made sure we had everything we needed. Overall, I highly recommend Tabaré for a great night out with friends, delicious food, and an amazing atmosphere. I’ll definitely be returning soon!
From the moment we walked in, the service was outstanding. Daniela, our server, went above and beyond, she was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience feel truly special. The rest of the staff also deserves recognition for their professionalism and warm hospitality. The food was absolutely SPECTACULAR, every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. On top of that, the atmosphere was phenomenal: vibrant, welcoming, and full of great energy. This place is a gem, and I can’t wait to come back. Huge thanks to Daniela and the entire team for making it such a memorable evening!
Octopus casserole was outstanding. Also had a pasta dish (sorry, forget the name) that was equally as good. We talked all weekend about how much we enjoyed our meals. Drinks were well made and the service was excellent and welcoming. Will definitely go back next time I'm in the area
Really enjoyed my dinner here! The service was really wonderful and the atmosphere is cozy. We had the beet salad and the octopus to start, both delicious. Then for entrees we got the burger, the ribeye, and the chicken milanesa. The food came out fairly quick and we had a great time. We spent $193 (including tip) for three people for the two appetizers, three entrees, a cocktail, and two soft drinks.
I came here with my family and friends to celebrate my grandmother’s birthday and the hospitality team was so awesome. Once we arrived, two gentleman placed us in a table right away. We were offered menus and while we looked at the menus and placed our orders the food arrived within 15 minutes. Tabaré Williamsburg is cozy, warm, and family oriented. The restaurant is truly an Uruguayan and filled with warmth traditions from Uruguays music filled ambience. The food was remarkable, delicious, and well served. Most of us ordered Churrascos with the exception of our grandmother who ordered a Ribeye steak. What an amazing time we had here! I definitely recommend Tabaré Williamsburg to anyone in the area and food lovers and enthusiasts. Come here to Tabaré take a good trip to Uruguay! All are welcome!
A very enjoyable experience. A mix between loud and quiet atmosphere with random items on the wall. Top tier service with some excellent Uruguayan food to try. I have never been to Uruguay but the food was really good. Empanadas are ordered in batches of two and the Gouda one was insane. A few steak options that were all delicious as well. Ask about the homemade pasta selection of the day! The truffle mushroom one was one of the best pastas I have ever had!
Tight, dark, hip, and loud. I got the whole bronzino with sweet potatoes and arugula salad. Ate up every bite. Crispy, salty sear on the fish, really nice dressing on the salad. Got the chicken empanadas to go and they were incredible.
The atmosphere is wonderful and cozy. but the kitchen leaves much to be desired, the french fries were 50% burnt and it was the 21st century in the yard, and cards were not accepted for payment. They say you can only American Express or cash. I don’t understand how in one of the most developed countries in institutions they don’t accept bank cards, not to mention Apple Pay)))
I can’t say enough good things about this place. Their menu is constantly changing and every time my wife and I have been the food has been spot on. The drinks may not taste strong, but they have an absolute kick to them and are delicious. Highly recommend the octopus casserole, it’s difficult to cook octopus well and they deliver on it time and time again.
Food and Vibe of the place is great. It's a bit pricey but a good place to go back to every once in a while, especially for an anniversary or intimate thing. Would def go back again.
I took my husband out for dinner and made a reservation ahead of time. Reservations are highly recommended because it's a small restaurant and it's busy. Once we arrived, I gave my name and they brought me to a table in the back. It was very cozy and an intimate setting. For appetizers, we ordered the mussels and the empanadas. There were a lot of mussels! It could easily have been an entree. The broth was delicious and I could have easily dipped some bread in there and call that a meal itself. The empanadas were really good too. I've never had empanadas that tasted this good! (If you guys know a place that has empanadas this good please let me know). The crust was flaky, the cheese was gooey. For my entree, I had the Churrasco. The meat was tender and full of flavor. The side of potatoes and salad was great to enjoy the steak with. It was a good amount for me, after having the two apps and I opted to take it to go. Only downside- parking in the area is tough and it's CASH or AMEX only!!
Food was solid for its price point. Better than a lot of the restaurants in the area. Service was a bit lacking though and they got one of the empanadas wrong. Also, as a heads up, they only accept cash and Amex. Did not realize that before going. There is an ATM there but still a bit annoying.
Cute and chill restaurant with very tasting food. Went with a group so we ordered a lot of different food. I had the rainbow trout (fish of the day) with mashed potatoes and watercrest salad. The trout was moist with crispy skin. And the potatoes were fresh with a hint of cheddar (don't usually have dairy so I noticed right away). It was very good and I'll definitely come back if I'm in the area.
The only reason I gave this place a 4/5 was because it was cash/amex only and they didn't tell us till the very end and I didn't see it posted anywhere except the desert menu. The food was very good. Tasted fresh the service was quick and dinner for two was way less then expected. 👍 Will definitely come back but bring cash.
Really cozy and cute inside. Great for family dinner or date night. Food is good and reliable, but nothing crazy outstanding. Really liked the chimichurri with the steak
Food was delicious, no complaints. Octopus and empanadas were especially great. Only complaint is that the portion sizes do not match the price point. I probably wouldn’t come back unless it’s a special occasion.
Such a great spot. Happy Hour deal was so worth it and the food was delicious. I would deff come here again and try a new item and drink! 🙂↕️😋 Cash only tho 😅
Perfect place for a date night or an intimate dinner. The place is super cute and romantic - has a patio in the back and also outdoor seating at the front of the restaurant. One dish that stood out the most was the churrasco; the others were kinda so-so. The staff are very attentive and friendly.
Very small, and simple yet elegant and classic style, I love the outdoor seating. Service was slow, sangria... (expensive) no flavor at all perhaps the apples rescue it, Chivito sandwich is enormous and delicious, empanadas are delicious, best of all the octopus. Although I expected a great steak which wasn't.
Great decor and vibe we didn't have any cocktails unfortunately so I can't comment on them. The food was just ok. We had the octopus and the steak. The octopus yearned for some flavor, but it wasn't there. The sauce was barely ok and the octopus didn't have much taste. The steak looked fantastic and cooked to the perfect temp, but again missing the flavor and in this case the salt!
My partner and I went for dinner. Since we didn’t have reservations, we set outside although the “reserved tables” were free even when we left. The Octopus and empanadas were great. My main- cod fish was very boring and tasteless. Thankfully my partner had ravioli so I used his sauce to add some flavor to the fish. In terms of prices - I thought it was overpriced for what it actually is.
The service and atmosphere were genuinely good, and the staff were great, but unfortunately that’s where the positives end. The TikTok hype is completely unwarranted. The food falls far short of authentic Uruguayan cuisine—overly greasy to the point of being unpleasant. To make matters worse, they don’t accept Visa or Mastercard, so unless you’re carrying cash, you’re out of luck. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, especially when there are far better Uruguayan food options in New Jersey, like Pizzeria Montevideo.
The menu online looked amazing, so I decided to give this place a try. Here’s my honest opinion. First off, the food tastes incredible, no doubt they have a talented cook. We arrived shortly after opening (around 5:20 p.m.) and were the second table there. We sat inside, but unfortunately, we all ended up getting bitten by mosquitoes, which was a bit uncomfortable. We ordered a few appetizers and were excited to try them. While they tasted great, the portion sizes were very small, especially considering the price. For a group of four, they weren’t really shareable. The olives, for example, would pair perfectly with some bread on the side. As the place started to fill up, we noticed other tables getting their food before us, even though we had arrived earlier. Our mains took quite a while to arrive, and the same happened with dessert. When we finished, it also took a long time to get the check, it felt like we had been forgotten at times. Service was okay, but inconsistent, as we had different servers each time. Overall, the food was excellent, but the portion sizes, wait times, and service could use improvement.
We had a very disappointing experience. At first it looked promising as we were given a nice room in the back, nothing fancy but pleasant. The menu, however, barely felt Uruguayan, with more Italian dishes than South American ones. The burger we tried was good, but the rest of the evening went downhill. Throughout dinner, the manager repeatedly entered our room, silently stared at us for minutes, and left. This was not to help (our waiter was already attentive) but came off as unsettling. When one of our group celebrated a birthday, they brought an extra slice of cake with a candle, which seemed like a kind gesture. Unfortunately, it was not free! We were charged for six desserts when we only ordered five. On closer inspection, the bill also included multiple incorrect charges, with prices higher than listed on the menu. We asked for corrections twice, but still found errors. No apology was offered. Just a harsh glare from the manager toward the waiter. The entire experience felt dishonest and unwelcoming. We will not be returning.
I have been here twice before, and my partner and I were really looking forward to celebrating New Year’s Eve at this restaurant. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We ordered lobster soup, empanadas, and a ribeye steak. Instead, we were brought a completely different order without being asked. When the server or food runner realized the mistake, they immediately took the plates away. While they did apologize, we noticed that the same issue happened to nearby tables, which suggests a lack of organization. The lobster soup was especially disappointing. It was more of a lobster-flavored soup rather than containing actual lobster meat, and it came with a lobster shell used only as a “decoration,” which felt misleading. The main reason we came was for the ribeye steak, and fortunately, that was the only dish that did not disappoint. At the time of payment, we paid with a $100 bill and the server asked if we wanted the change. That felt inappropriate. While we understand tipping culture, it should never be assumed or requested in that way. Overall, this experience did not meet our expectations, especially for a New Year’s Eve dinner.
