Local or destination spot, this is an absolute gem in Brooklyn, uniquely nestled on a residential corner. One of my favorites is the truffle pasta, perfection! The servers are kind and make your experience feel special, each and every time. I’ve been coming here for a decade. A go to for special occasions, happy hour, or bringing visiting friends and family. I have tried most and love all the dishes, even after the menu changed a few years ago with new chef. Meals and experiences here are transportive….even more now with the gelato!
Wonderful food as always at this little local gem of a restaurant. The staff are always lovely and the food is excellent homemade Italian. Five of us chose the family-style menu for our birthday celebration, and Augustino and the team really made it a beautiful food occasion. Great drinks and great wine too. We sat outside in the covered tables and felt like we were on our own private piazza. 5 STARS!
This was my second time at this place. The first time was great and I was happy to have another opportunity to show it off to my friends who were visiting. They absolutely loved everything we ate and the atmosphere at the small back table was cozy. Highly recommend.
Came here on Saturday night. Beautiful outdoor dining with a healthy amount of space between tables at least 5 feet in each direction. All the staff were wearing masks! Bravo. The food was fantastic. We shared: prosciutto , fig salad and pappardelle ricotta pasta. Portions were large and the quality of the food was super impressive. Perhaps the most delicious pasta I have ever had! We will be back! They also have contactless pay options and all sorts of covid compliant safety measure in place, while still maintaining a casual and warm dining experience.
My favorite neighborhood spot for dinner. Anytime I’m meeting with friends I suggest this spot because it never disappoints!!! The food, the atmosphere, the wide array of Italian dishes, and don’t even get me started on the assortment of Negronis - I love it all. So grateful to have such a wonderful establishment in the neighborhood. I came here on New Years Eve as well and I was floored by the incredible food!!!! Every bite was pleasurable, service was top notch, drinks - fabulous as always. You can tell the kitchen here works really hard to get the food out hot and fresh. Can’t help but come here again and again!
Thoughtful and expertly prepared menu: hard to fault any dish here, all are worth the journey. Complimented by an excellent wine list. During the warmer months the sidewalk dining is fantastic amid the charming, lush and green streets of Clinton Hill.
After living in Italy for almost half of my life, I have always been looking for good Italian restaurants abroad. Hands down Locanda Vini & Olii is my fav Italian restaurant in New York. Their food, service, list of wine and special desserts are so great. Highly recommended
Yummy different/authentic Italian food. This place is a renovated drug store that dates back from the 1800's. The dishes are small but filling, beautifully crafted and full of flavor. Save room for dessert because they are all delicious I recommend sharing. They still have the old ladder that goes around the entire restaurant on a track.
Hands down BEST pasta in New York. That's the only review this place needs, but I'll gladly elaborate. The service is pretty down-home Brooklyn. Not a place for confused tourists. Definitely a place for foodies! Get a reservation early, they go quickly for a reason. Now more about this pasta... I'm serious guys, it's the best freaking pasta I've had anywhere in the city. It's the BEST PASTA. Get the mushrooms tagliatelle. Or anything really. It doesn't matter as long as it's been blessed by the hands of whatever poor pasta elf they have working for them in the back, spinning gold and rainbows into beautiful, perfect strands of the most delicious pasta to ever grace the five boroughs. If you haven't been, you're missing out.
Have you ever been in Italy? No, not that fake Little Italy we have in New York, with chequered Trattoria tablecloths and smelly Parmesan and olive oil. I am taking about real one - with cypress lines and orange downs, heavenly food and Dolce Vita people. So you've never been there? This restaurant is a good start. Olive oil and bread they serve tastes like heaven. Food is made with heart and drinks they make is full of alcohol. The advice I follow drink Negroni, drink two - is prefect for this place. Negroni they make OMG... And service? So good and so Italian and language they speak is so real (Italian)... Go there and forget about previous 8 or 10 hours you've worked or lived before. Thank me later ;) P.S. Only thing I would change there is music. Bob Marley? seriously? :))) well I like him but not there. I would listen Gino Paoli, Mina or Jovanotti P.S I came here today and they play David Bowie. I swear God exists, somewhere... somehow :)))
If you like authentic food from Tuscany then this is the place. The seating may be tight on a busy night but the manager will do his best to make you feel comfortable. Good selection of Italian wines. A true gem of a restaurant in Brooklyn!
One of our go-to restaurants in the neighborhood. We love the food and the staff. We also enjoy the prix fix family style meal.
The foods incredible. You never had any kinda real pasta until you eat here. Seriously, I’ve been cooking my noodles/sauce like an idiot this whole time. The drinks are phenomenal, I didn’t know Negronis could taste like that. And our waiter was hilarious, he was busting my chops cuz he knew I was on a date. Felt like I’ve been eating here for ages. Decors really nice, tons of small moments and details that look like they have a story.
Truly enjoyed Locanda Vini & Olii. We started the night with a classic aperol spritz and a red wine ( which was a generous pour I might add) and then enjoyed the sformato, black pepper pici, and Al tartufo. All very delicious and authentically Italian. Will 100% be dreaming about these dishes. The staff was wonderful and charming. You can see that it’s a neighborhood establishment as well. We sat outside and enjoyed watching the familiarity between walkers and the staff. Couldn’t recommend more.
Loved this place. It felt really cozy, the atmosphere was warm, the staff were super friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious🤍
As a restaurant owner I can only admire this restaurant. We came on a busy night without reservation and the hostess was kind enough to give as a table. Our waiter Alessio was extremely nice and knowledgeable, he suggested a great wine and guide us trough a really great culinary experience with perfect timing in between courses. Dishes were perfecly executed. Money truly well spent. Can’t recommend a better restaurant in the area.
Spent there one of my favorite evenings ever. Great food, people, atmosphere
Amazing food. Fresh pasta and duck. Augustine the server was so knowledgeable and friendly that just elevated the experience. Not to add, the restaurant has an amazing vibe being in a historical landmark that was once a drug store.
A neighborhood locale with exceptional dining. The staff is welcoming and extremely friendly. The atmosphere is quaint, warm, and cozy. It is a repurposed drugstore and evokes the era of comfort neighborhood restaurants. The food is always exceptional and reasonably priced. I have dined here dozens of times and have never been disappointed. Parking is relatively available. All in all, a must dine location in Brooklyn. You won't be unhappy with the choice.
I was delightfully surprised at how tasty the food at this Italian restaurant was. I’m very critical of Italian food. The location and clientele of this spot had me worried. But I should have known a restaurant with Branzino in parchment paper and Sienese pasta would be good. Very delightfully surprised. Definitely would recommend.
A lovely authentic Italian (not American Italian, but truly Italian) neighborhood place in a lovely quiet corner with a great atmosphere. Service is lovely and food is way more original than the common Italian restaurant. Don't miss out on the ice cream cart with the most interesting and yummy flavors!
We had a great dinner here this week, every time I come back I find something new to love. This time we were accidentally charged for an additional entree which we didn’t notice until the next day. Filippo kindly and professionally corrected the charge over email. We will be back again soon!
Great food, cozy local atmosphere. Great date night vibes. We’ll definitely be returning
WOW!!! This place met and exceeded all expectations!! The food was off the charts delicious and made fresh! Staff were super helpful and accommodating. The vibe inside is very like old world Italian and I spent half the time just looking at all the bottles of liquor and the display cases filled with interesting things. They went above and beyond to make the dinner special for us, and since it was my sister's birthday they gave us house-made limoncello shots on the house! I would honestly go back just to get the limoncello, it was so good!! But literally everything we ate was like heaven in your mouth!! You're missing out if you don't try this place at least once in your life!
This charming neighborhood spot has been an icon for ages. It STILL doesn't lose its charm, even after dining here for years. The quality of ingredients expertly combined into classic (real) Italian dishes feels like getting a big, tasty hug. I absolutely love the food. The drink list is A+, with not too much selection as to paralyze one with indecision, but not too small/boring to disappoint. The adorableness of the place and its location only add to the experience. Anyone teetering on the edge of deciding to come here or not, just come. Enjoy yourself. Thanks for being here, Locanda. 🥂 Featured picture is this braised pork shank that a fork could rip apart with ease because they know how to cook.
We came to this restaurant tonight for my mom’s birthday. From the moment we walked up, service was ON and stayed that way until we left. The food was delicious and authentic - we got three different pastas and all were done beautifully. Had an amazing glass of wine recommended by our server. They celebrated my mom’s birthday without hesitation and really made her night!! Such a great neighborhood spot.
I had a delightful dinner at Locanda ! It is my platonic ideal of a restaurant. The servers are charming, it looks beautiful inside, the food is delicious, and the espresso is tasty. The server gave us his homemade limoncello. I will be back!
Just lovely. Beautiful local Italian spot. Lighting was perfect. Cozy. Excellent food. I would describe it as rustic Italian. A well earned 5 stars!
I've introduced several friends to this place on return visits. Staff met the standard for good service. Good dishes made from excellent ingredients. Nice energy, helpful team, and clean space without clutter. I'm thankful this restaurant enhances our options.
I enjoyed a meal here at Laconia Vini & Oli a couple nights ago and had an incredible time. Everything on the menu was great and excellent service from the front of house staff. It is so hard to find good Pici and it was phenomenal. The truffle pasta was equally impressive and I walked out of the restaurant with a definite desire to return in the future.
Lovely neighborhood restaurant, with a warm cozy environment. We enjoy getting a cocktail and pasta on a cold winter night just as much as coming by on a hot summer night and sitting outdoors. Locanda's friendly waiters and personable owner make it feel like a perfect neighborhood joint. A place we'll continue to go to for many years to come!
Incredible decor - it’s an old drugstore and the still have antique ampules and pamphlets in mahogany cabinets around the seating area. But the food is even better. Out of this world pasta (and I don’t even like pasta!), delicious apps & salads, fantastic cocktails. Just love this place so much!
One of my friends favorite restaurants and it's easy to see why. Located in a hundred years old hardware store, this place was packed when we arrived. Despite that the service was so amazing. Our waiter took all 8 orders and drinks without writing a thing down and everything was perfect. The duck was delicious and perfect. Appetizers really hot the spot and the parpadelle was the big hit of the night. Definitely will be back again soon
We sat outside. We did make a reservation earlier in the day. We went on a Thursday evening. There were walk-up diners who were accommodated. We got an appetizer from the specials and 2 pasta dishes off the menu. My husband got a glass of wine. Highly recommend this place!
After walking through the streets of Brooklyn I wanted some authentic Italian food. This place came heavily recommended and I tell you what it did not disappoint. We got their kind of late however that did not matter at all they stayed open until we finished eating. The service was out of this world he was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and definitely helped set the mood for the night. The menu was expansive but wasn't overwhelming and the food was definitely a delight. I would definitely visit this place again next time I'm in town..
Excellent. Impeccable apothecary decor, tasty menu with good flavors. The highlights are the negroni bar, with nice different combinations, the trippa a la fiorentina (I had never had tripe before, and the flavors made it a very nice first impression) and the delicious pistachio pie. 100% am coming back.
Update 2022: We planned a group event here to celebrate my 30th birthday and couldn’t recommend it more! From the special vegetarian entree to the custom printed menus, it was such a special dinner. You also get great, family-style portions of everything on your menu that are well worth the price! Don’t look any further if you want a delicious dinner for a special evening! Have had two great dinners here (once pre-pandemic and once during). The food is all delicious and the drinks are good, too! Plenty of options for vegetarians. We ate outside this time, in the sidewalk seating by a heater. Besides when there was a breeze, we were very comfortable. Definitely check it out for dinner if you’re in the area!
An absolute neighborhood favorite. Went for a date on a Friday evening and were pleased by the classic ambiance of the place. The host seated us instantly because of our reservation and the server was full of life. You can tell when people enjoy what they do, and it can definitely be said about the staff here. We tried the duck and mushroom pasta. Duck was pretty good, but mushroom pasta was the show stopped. We haven’t stopped talking about it since and will definitely go back and get our own plate next time. No sharing this pasta dish!! Finally, the tiramisu was soft and fluffy! A definite stop if you’re in the neighborhood.
Great neighborhood spot. The atmosphere is pleasant, most pastas are good and are made fresh, although the preparation tends to be onion-rosemary-sage heavy and not well balanced or seasoned. There are vegetarian options (though very few are vegan). some deserts like the ricotta cheese cake and almond cookie are phenomenal! The drinks are good too. We’ll be back for desserts or drinks but probably not for food.
Lovely setting and friendly staff. Service is quite rushed so you feel like you’re in a cafeteria. Food is fine but not memorable.
Love us some solid Italian food. This place has been around forever and is a staple in this neighborhood. Just wish they’d change the menu at least once a year! Seems a little lazy and uninspired. Service always warm and welcoming, love getting Amaro here. Good joint but not the best. There are other authentic Italian restaurants within walking distance that are all around just..better.
We ordered the Ribollita which was good, the MOZZARELLA DI BUFALA we did not like. The cold mozzarella cheese on a warm squash, the textures and temperature of the two foods didn’t taste great for us. The AL CONIGLIO pasta was our favourite, while the TARTUFO NERO was not as great. The truffle flavour was overwhelming in the dish and it was a little dry. Food was okay , we didn’t love anything . Servers were friendly , it took a while for our main dishes to arrive after the appetizers but the atmosphere was nice so we didn’t mind the wait.
We came there in a Saturday night and it was good that we had a reservation, as we learned from the couple entering before us, the wait would have been two hours. They have several different types of negronis, and since the negroni is 100 years old this year, I had to have one.It was good. Overall, dinner was an experience. The food was so delicious. The atmosphere is nice. From the outside, the building is labeled as a drug store, and the interior is decorated with drugstore paraphilia. Overall this is would be a glowing review if there would not be two areas of improvement. (1) It's really loud in there, and it's tough to carry a conversation.(2) As others have noted, the service is slow.
Delicious and charming! Highlights were the chicken liver starter and the venison osso bucco, one of the best entrees we've ever had. Pici, a hand-rolled spaghetti-but-fatter pasta, was much fatter and more doughy than I've had in Tuscany but the roasted onion sauce was very good. Double espresso barely filled half the thimble cup. Oh, well.Prices: Starters $10-$16, Primi (pastas) in between, and mains $25-$29. Three of us ordered two of each course and were very happy. The venue, an old drugstore, surrounds you with the dark wood and glass cabinets of another century, but it's the charm and helpfulness of the wait staff, all in lovely Italian accents, that topped the experience for me. Warning: Dark and noisy and tables are inches from each other. A lovely evening!
My chitara pasta (the first pasta dish on the menu) was actually so good. Still thinking about it... Tiramisu amazing. Olives delicious and functionally bottomless. Wine overpriced c'mon now 😅 Very nice service I told them it was our anniversary and they gave us some candles in our dessert :)
We were very lucky to get a seat without reservation. The duck breast we had was delicious, very tender and juicy. We ordered their The Upstate Nigori and Plum Nigori to pair with the foods. We also had Tiramisu for the dessert, it tastes perfect. At the end, we got a free mint tea liquor from our friendly server. I recommend this Italian restaurant to you all if you are nearby.
I was coming in to taste a great Italian meal. But this place didn’t live up to its hype. The bread they served was super dry. The dishes we got tasted mediocre at best. The prosciutto appetizer tasted like it was bought at a grocery store. Everything we got was so overpriced for the taste it had. We left this place disappointed unfortunately.
Considering what you are paying I think the food is kinda mid. The menu is definitely original, but some of it feels needlessly complex. I think other restaurants at comparable price in Brooklyn have better food and service. The decor is cool though.
The location is really unique, in an old pharmacy that hasn't been stripped from it's original interior. Yet, I have been coming here for years, and it's still the same menu of unfortunately pretty basic "Italian style" food. Most of the dishes are very heavy and not presented in the most creative way. Especially for the money. Wine list is really good though and the service very friendly.
My Wife and I met up with family for dinner. The food was good but seemed like a children's portion. The service was very good. I now know what a "corking charge" is. BYOB but get charged out the wazoo for the restaurant to open it. There is a larger selection of spirits than entrees. While the setting is nice, it's also small and loud because everyone is talking or should I say, screaming at each other to be heard. For me, I tried it once and that was enough.
This review is based on one dining experience, so more research is in order. The trippa alla fiorentina was really good, as was the baccalà e ceci. The costata alla fiorentina, however, was a HUGE disappointment. We ordered medium-rare, it was served blue (less than rare) and cold. That's a costly mistake for the most expensive item on the menu, and shows a lack of care and attention. Shame on whoever was on the grill. Sent it back for some more heat, it came back, and we discovered it was tough and gristly, and very few bites were without a tough fight with connective tissue.
Food was boring at best. Service was fine but I rarely complain about service unless someone won’t bring the check when I’m trying to leave which was not the case tonight. Gnocchi was ok. Calamari was not the freshest and the seasoning was completely uninspired. Branzino was the most disappointing thing I have paid money for in a sit down restaurant. Cannelloni was freshly made, I guess, but might as well have come from the frozen section at the supermarket. The chef seems to be obsessed with boiling green leafy vegetables and inserting them into dishes that they add absolutely no value to. Not a tomato or a red sauce in sight, but what to I know about “authentic Italian food”… Basically under seasoned protein with boiled onions and cabbage piled on top of it. Bread was cold and dipping olive oil was flavorless and unseasoned. Dessert was the most edible dish ordered probably because it’s brought in from an outside bakery, cocktails were ok. Decor is meh. The army of servers inserting match books under wobbly tables seemed to be some kind of entertainment act as it happens at every table being seated, pretty sure the waiters just do the performance for tips and remove the matchbooks in between seatings.
A rather uninspired Italian restaurant IMO. The service was great and the vibe was good, but the menu is an awkward middle ground between modern and classic Italian. The dishes were simple in a disappointingly uncreative way that did not justify their high price tag. They were also critically under-seasoned, something I can’t look past when paying $15 for pasta, let alone $25+. And no, fresh pasta does not warrant a $10 increase in quality. If you want food like this, I’d recommend a number of places within walking distance that’ll be much kinder on your wallet.
Honestly, go somewhere else. I ordered pasta with mushrooms and my husband one with rabbit. Food was meh. Presentation was even worse. I can not believe you can mess up pasta with mushrooms, honestly, I am not a good cook but I wish I stayed home and cooked it myself. Service was fast , very casual and straight forward. We had table reservation for 6.30 and were out of restaurant at 7.14. ( really sad, isn’t it?) We did have anchovies as an appetizer, which was okay. General impression of the place was that something really important was missing. Atmosphere was good but couldn’t shake the feeling of “ why am I eating at pharmacy store?” 😅 Would Not come back and definitely would Not recommend
Okay let's be as objective as possible here. I walked in by myself for a 8PM reservation. I first ordered the 28 dollar octopus appetizer. Some pieces were very chewy and others were soft. Overall not much flavor going on other than a mild "tuna-can' taste. The white beans were undercooked, so when you bite into it, you can taste graininess to them (that really sucked). I took 2 small bites and left the rest untouched. The bread was super dry (actually just sad) and the olive oil was just okay. It didn't really have that nice EVOO smell and taste you look for a good dipping EVOO. I also ordered the truffle pasta for ~ 29 dollars. The pasta was overcooked, the portion size was simply not adequate for this price. The white asparagus was really lacking in the dish. They definitely used less than one white asparagus stalk for the dish, dicing it up into 0.5-1cm cubes. Almost none of the grana padano cheese added to the dish was tastable and in retrospect I should have mentioned that. I put 5 stars for service because they did not charge me for the octopus appetizer. My overall rating was pushed from 2 stars to 3 stars because of the service. I am surprised that no one asked me what I didn't like about the dishes, so I am writing my feedback here in case someone at the restaurant finds it useful. Overall for these high prices, I was really expecting much more.
I got the truffle tagliatelle. While I was greeted with a lot of truffle on my plate, the taste itself was not anything special and I only was willing to spend the $35 because of the truffle. I've had better tagliatelle. The Gelato, however was absolutely amazing! My favorite was the olive oil and bread crumb and the Italian cream. The serve staff was incredibly hospitable prompt, jovial, and so friendly! I would come here again just not for the food. The restaurant is in a really nice part of Brooklyn too.
Food was overall great. The service was mehh. Grill duck breast was perfectly cooked, juicy meat and very delicious! Al tartufo, black truffles pasta, sauce was on point, even though truffle slices were thiner than paper. I wouldn’t recommend Potato gnocchi with pesto sauce which was so bland...didn’t taste anything rather than chewy gnocchi and sun dried tomato. Two types of outdoor seatings: 1) street tables: Under tent with a wall mounted electric heater on each table which was not enough warm on 39-45F weather... 2) Side tables with tall heaters, no barriers around. But it seemed warmer than street table since the heaters were gas heat. If you wish to dine out, be prepared with thick coats, hats, and gloves? our hands were freezing!
Hosted a large party event there last week for a milestone birthday after having a wonderful dining experience in May 2023. The experience this time was horrible and disappointing in multiple ways, and I’ll never be returning there. To start, there was miscommunication with the reservation and the pre-fix menu which I think contributed to the frustration of our server. He disregarded us throughout the meal and didn’t check in. We had to flag him down for service on a Sunday when the restaurant wasn’t very busy. The server was very short with me and my guests when we asked for anything. When I tried to provide feedback and explain the pre-fix menu options for dessert, the server barked at me and told me this was never how it has been. There was no apology for what was a miscommunication (not on my part) and then asked in a rude manner, “well, what do you want?!” As a past server myself, I had empathy for someone having a bad day but he engaged with us in an unprofessional and disrespectful manner, as if we were a bother as paying customers. It was so bad that two guests stepped out of the restaurant to disengage with the server. The food also wasn’t as good as it was in 2023, although the gelato and tiramisu were just as delicious. The owners seemed to be receptive to the feedback and did give me a gift card to use at their other restaurants. Hope that other patrons don’t experience the same level of discomfort while dining. It definitely ruined what was suppose to be a special celebratory outing.
I recently had the opportunity to dine at Locanda Vini & Olii, and while I had a fantastic experience with the majority of the staff, I was disappointed by the behavior of the owner. Let's start with the positive aspect: the food. From the moment I took my first bite, it was clear that the chefs at Locanda Vini & Olii are incredibly talented. The flavors were rich, the ingredients were fresh, and each dish was beautifully presented. The menu showcased a variety of mouthwatering options that catered to different palates and dietary preferences. It's safe to say that the food alone made my visit worthwhile. Now, let's address the issue at hand—the owner, who I believe is named Michael. Unfortunately, his behavior was a stark contrast to that of the rest of the staff. He displayed a rude and aggressive attitude throughout our visit, which left us feeling uncomfortable and disappointed. His lack of professionalism and courtesy was evident in his interactions with other customers and the way he spoke to my pregnant wife. He seemed to take great umbrage with the fact she wasn’t drinking alcohol and was visibly angry when we asked for the desert menu. Suffice to say that two attractive young women at the table next to us did not receive the same treatment as he was fawning all over them, nor did the large table of regulars to the other side. It was disheartening to witness such behavior from someone who should be setting a positive example for their establishment. Reading some of the other reviews on here it seems that there's sadly a pattern for this kind of behavior. It's important to acknowledge that despite the owner's shortcomings, the rest of the team at Locanda Vini & Olii demonstrated exceptional professionalism and friendliness. It is clear that they take pride in their work and strive to provide a memorable dining experience for their guests. In conclusion, while the staff at Locanda Vini & Olii were exemplary in their service and made our visit enjoyable, the behavior of the owner was regrettable.
It's a great place to come with family. Very nice setting, excellent menu , good wine. However, I ordered ROASTED ALASKAN COD (served with roasted potatoes) which was very good but for some reason just soaked in olive oil afterwards. It was so heavily oily that my stomach started hurting, couldn't even finish the meal. When I mentioned it to our server as a comment for improvement, he just shrugged me off with "that's how we cook in Sicily". Unacceptable!
Really bad. Some of the worst service I’ve ever experienced, or maybe didn’t experience. Between the three servers there and three patrons, I was given the time of day, maybe twice. The pasta was BAD, the soup didn’t taste like anything, I was served a $25 glass of vinegar, they called a barolo, and they took my espresso before I was finished. The only reason for the second star was because the sformato was tasty. But I will not be going back.
The server was GREAT and the wine was good, so I can’t give it one star. By far the worst cheese plate I’ve ever had, and they seemed really confused why we would want bread with it. My friend and I each ordered a pasta and they were both awful. Mine was swimming in olive oil and didn’t taste like anything, definitely not the mushrooms the dish was named after. Hers was an overly salty meat sauce with some noodles mixed in. They were both the same brown-grey color. Needless to say, we skipped dessert.
Very surprised. I understand ordering everything at once but zero time between order and each course. Service was poor. Rushing us the duration of our meal. The pasta dishes were bland. The saving grace are the cocktails, which we would have happily ordered more of if we had a minute to breathe in between. Of all the amazing Italian in the area, you can can skip this one
Food was bland, service was okay. The restaurant is beautiful. We had steak, truffle and another handmade pasta. My pasta was both over salted and bland. Over priced. Truffle was meh, have had better truffle taglietelle for $30. Hardly any veggie options and no kid friendly options either. Loved visiting Clinton hill but this was not a great experience of Italian food, misses the mark by a mile. We are london based and we’re looking forward to a great meal. We won’t be back.
Very kind server and a nice atmosphere but the food is not worth the price by any means
Meal was very lackluster, especially for the price charged. The salad (with figs and gorgonzola) was very underwhelming in its flavors. The anchovy dish in particular was extremely disappointing: untoasted, cold slices of average bread, with unmelted butter and the anchovy on top is simply not a pleasant mouthfeel and it fails to bring out the flavors of each of the ingredients. The cocktails had a very syrupy mouthfeel and overly sweet flavor that masked any notes of the liquors used. Perhaps we "ordered wrong" but for the price it seems unacceptable that there would be wrong dishes to order. We had one of each pici and they were good, but not enough to turn the evening around. The space is very nice. The waiter was very friendly.
This used to be a favorite spot for me for several years but after a disappointing experience I decided to give it another chance last night and go get their famous Tartuffo pasta. Unfortunately I don't imagine how it could have been any worse. We sat outside, at 8 pm and after ordering and eating our appetizers, we only saw our pastas over an hour later. They didn't admit they had forgotten me and my friends and responded twice that they were working on them. When the pasta finally came, it was way overcooked and the minute we started eating they started bringing their trash out so we had to try eating with the smell of rotting fish in a hot Brooklyn night> Thanks, but no thanks, never again Locanda
i would never write a review normally, but the staff was straight up mean to me. Server rolled his eyes in my face multiple times, and was visibly annoyed with me because of a dietary restriction- I’m a server myself and simply cannot imagine being as nasty as the staff here. Man who brought the ice cream at the end was super nice!
Omg, where do I even start? The truffle pasta ($35) doesn’t even have shaved truffles like any of the photos here showed. Apparently, they changed the dish 2 months ago from shaved truffles to TEENY TINY GRATED truffles, which are much less in volume and different in taste, without changing the menu description to match the current dish. The menu stated that the dish has mushroom and anchovies, which we didn’t see or taste at all. Completely a rip off at the slightest, and deception if I want to be honest. The worst part is, manager and staff were extremely defensive when we expressed how disappointed we were when getting an underwhelming dish at a high price point, on our close friend’s birthday. No comp or any apologies were made. We still left a tip since people need to get paid to eat (we just hope they didn’t eat the truffle pasta, otherwise they would be disappointed). Long story short, except for the ambiance that’s actually quite nice, whole experience was bad. Do not go :)
