Food was phenomenal, make sure you got it saucy! Don’t be afraid to get dirty, every piece was delicious.
the classic pork sandwich was absolutely delicious! the sauce was so flavorful. will be back soon! :)
Amazing sandwich! I had the pork prensado with a side of the tomato sauce. So delicious
Amazing sandwich, the bread was incredible and the staff were so lovely and friendly. Will be back.
Pretty fantastic and unique sandwich. Service was excellent and friendly. Happy to have this in the neighborhood!
Delicious meal and very kind service! We can’t wait to come back!
The bread alone would be worth coming here fo. Perfect combination of crusty on the outside and soft on the inside.
Walked by and it smelled great so I went back the next day. Did not disappoint! Super good and great staff
Could not have been more accommodating and friendly. They elevate gastronomy to a science verging on art.
Very good Bañados, a traditionnal sandwich from Guadalajara made with fresh bread and a delicious sauce
Family owned restaurant with incredible food and drinks. Huge portions and loving people! Can’t recommend enough
Friendly staff Delicious food (lonche bañado and chips/guac) Will be going back
Fun, unique place, low key. In a neighborhood full of options, it’s got a small inviting menu, authentic dishes, and a nice staff.
Excellent quality and very very kind and passionate service. Not the usual Mexican! Really suggested, I wish them all the best
The guacamole was incredible and the El Macario is a must try!!! The sauce is absolutely amazing and the staff is the sweetest!!!
Absolutely bursting with flavor! Sauce with a little kick and a little smoke. I can’t wait to come back!
Great neighborhood spot. Fresh food, great service.
Delicious food - the lonche concept and sauce that comes with it are incredible. Staff are exceptionally kind and patient. Kid-friendly, too! Will be back.
If you’re craving a flavorful lunch, Macario is the place to go! The sandwiches are absolutely delicious, the guacamole is mouthwatering, and the atmosphere is clean and welcoming. The owners are amazing—they went above and beyond to make sure we were pleased. Thank you, Macario, and welcome to the neighborhood!
I had the pork lonche (torta) banado (bathed in a tasty soupy sauce) which was super. My friend had the pork planchado which was equally divine and perhaps less messy to eat. All tasted really fresh. Apparently also all locally sourced and organic and made fresh daily. We were very full and satisfied, wanting to return to try the other offerings. Bathroom was super clean as were the premises. No loud music to talk over. Just a great place to hang out and have an informal (but yummy), Mexican bite.
Amazing cuisine! Fresh produce, Organic meat, delicious flavors! Great staff and atmosphere - 100% recommend!
We loved loved loved Macario! The guac is delicious and the el Macario is a must try. The staff are also really sweet and gave us little tasters of their bread and sauce before we ordered!
I was skeptical after seeing photos. Usually I hate things like wet burritos - but this sandwich slaps. It’s like a combination of a cubano and a meatball parm in terms of flavors and textures. Bread is fantastic, sauce is really tasty, and the meat is delicious. Service is very friendly too!
Messy but delicious! The Macario is a great sandwich covered with a delicious sauce, my wife was even stealing some sauce for her quesadilla. Extremely friendly staff. I'm looking forward to going again!
A really great spot! The sandwiches are delicious and you get a good amount of food for the price. Atmosphere was bright and clean, and everyone was friendly. Can’t wait to go back!
Delicious! My husband got the pulled pork sandwich and I got the pulled chicken quesadilla and both were so yummy. The Guac is also fantastic. Excited to have this in the neighborhood now!
Chicken macario was so good!! The sauce was delicious and the bread was absolutely outstanding. Service was very fast and everyone was friendly.
Great sandwich. Really haven't had anything like it. The sauce is REALLY good. Would buy it as a separate item to be honest.
Really nice place with delicious lonches. The sauce is just incredible! Try their lonches bañados!
Wonderful service!! Delicious food and very affordable!! Definitely worth trying it out. We were visiting from Westchester and found this gem!
Delicious sandwich, quesadilla, and guacamole. The sandwich is amazing and I’ve never had anything like it. The team was so kind and welcoming. Will definitely be back!
Cute little spot! The classic sandwich was a good size with a healthy amount of sauce, that had a nice spicy kick to it. Everyone there was super nice as well.
Super calm and lovely place. The food was truly so delicious. Simple, traditional, and wonderful flavor !!!
Delicious food and amazing service! The guac is probably my favorite I’ve ever had! Can’t wait to go back
Excellent new spot in the neighborhood, and worth a trek if you’re not in the neighborhood. Delicious food and lovely staff; will definitely go again!
I've never had anything like it before! Amazing sandwiches, very nice and friendly service.
Great food fun to eat. Especially if you like your sandwich SAUCY. Welcome to the neighborhood Marshall. We wish you much success. We will be back often.
Excellent food & service! The pulled pork lonche bañado has never let me down.
Our new favorite neighborhood spot for lunch and dinner! Their fresh bread and homemade sauce are incredible - plus the staff is so welcoming!
such a fantastic experience! The food was amazing and the staff were so nice and informative about their different options. they were saying they have a lot of repeat customers and I can see why !!
The food is great and the service is even better. The owner is so welcoming and walked me through every part of the menu. You can that the passion for the food and the story behind it is what drives this business. I would recommend checking it out!
I’ve known the owners of this little gem long before they opened it and seeing their dream come to life has been such a joy. From the moment you walk in, there’s a sense of warmth that reflects exactly who they are—welcoming, genuine, and full of heart. The food is unlike anything else around. The sandwiches are made with their own homemade bread, soft yet flavorful, and the sauces taste like something lovingly perfected in their kitchen over years, not just made for the day. Every bite feels both comforting and special, like you’re eating a family recipe passed down through generations. It’s the kind of place where you don’t just eat—you linger, you enjoy, and you feel at home. I’m so proud of what they’ve built, and I can’t recommend this spot enough. It’s more than just a restaurant—it’s a reflection of the love and passion of the people behind it.
The sandwiches with the sauce are so good. Tastes amazing dine in, I had some leftovers I saved for the next day and still tasted amazing. Both the chicken and pork are good
What may appear a simply prepared sandwich reveals itself a delightfully messy, impressively tasty, composition of quality ingredients served by super friendly staff- a great addition to the neighborhood and the greater city's food scene! Though the pork sandwich may be the star, the chicken and even the cheese sandwich are worthy side quests for any NYC sandwich lover grabbing a bite at Macario. Pro tip: add pickled jalapenos to your cheese sandwich for some extra zing (they're great on any sandwich of course).
Tried this new spot on 4th Ave. The owners did such a great job with painting and the finishes on the restaurant. Service and food is amazing. Portion sizes are large. Very happy with the taste of their pork nachos and their home made sauce on their sandwiches. Definitely coming back.
The Macario torta covered in their sauce were absolutely delicious 😋. The bread was perfectly toasted, the filling generous, and the sauce had an authentic, well-balanced flavor with just the right amount of heat. It brings out all the flavors without overpowering them. A true gem for foodies—highly recommended! 🌶️🇲🇽
We split a lonche bañado (El Macario) as a light lunch for two people. Tender pork and flavorful, complex sauce. Bread was perfect, soft but keeps its structure as it soaks up the sauce. So excited to go back and have another!
So good! And very similar to the lonches in Guadalajara. We split the pork lonche and guacamole con totopos, perfect lunch!
Diana (who works at this spot) saw us reading the menu outside & invited us in. The pork bañados we tried was really tasty & huge/filling. The sauce (macario) is excellent and a first for me!
Thrilled that this place opened up so close to our house. Just tried a pork lonche bañado for the first time and it was amazing. Can’t wait to go back and try the chicken & cheese versions. Friendly staff adds to an already comfortable atmosphere.
Friendly staff, really good food (I had the recommended pork sandwich with sauce on top) and lovely relaxing music being played. Will definitely come back.
Absolutely dope sandwich. Go for the pulled pork (add chipotles and pickled jalapenos), roll up your sleeves and get busy. Wash it all down with side of guac and chicharrones. Cool owner, awesome staff. ⚡
Truly an awesome restaurant! They are so proud of their food and with good reason. The nicest people and the food is even better.
Wow! I’ve never had a.Lonches Banados before, and it was delicious! The owner and the staff couldn’t have been nicer and service was pleasant and engaged. I would highly recommend
Great addition to the neighborhood. Stopped in for lunch. Counter guy was nice. Good sandwich, good bread, traveled well as they put the sauce on the side. They wrapped each half separately, so makes it easier to save some for dinner. Prices in line with other sandwich places in the neighborhood.
Love this cute new restaurant! The food is delicious, guacamole perfection, one of the best I’ve ever had. Very traditional Mexican sandwiches with such delicious sauce. And the most lovely staff ever
Their sandwiches are absolutely delicious. The sauce is literally magical but the flavor of the pork is also so, so tasty. My husband and I went a few days ago with our 10 month old daughter, she slept in the stroller the whole time so there is great atmosphere as well. I already can't wait to go back. Highly recommend!
Really cute spot. We got the Lonche Prensado Pork and Chicken. Both really tasty sandwiches and I would def try the Lonche clasico sandwiches next, that sauce was excellent. The hospitable owner also gave us a sample of his guacamole, excellent 👌- which I will def get next.
The staff, service and incredible food is something you can’t miss. It’s a truly authentic sandwich and unlike something i’ve ever had here. You can tell this is a product that is thought out and cared for, and you cannot miss it. The sauce on that sandwich is unforgettable. and the guacamole and pork rinds is so good!!
My husband and I stumbled on this spot and I’m so glad we did. We ordered two different lonches banados and they were so kind to explain how best to eat the sandwich before we dug in. I’ve never had a sandwich like this before and I’m desperate to come back and try more. I can’t recommend this place enough!
The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming when you come in. They go into great detail about how they prepare the food as well as how to enjoy the sandwich in the traditional Mexican way. The sauce is phenomenal but for those who don’t want the sandwich smothered I would recommend getting it in the side to dip.
My pork quesadilla was the best ever. It has such a unique taste and has flavor in every bite. It came pretty quick. Found out it is marinated with yummy ingredients for 24 hours. Atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Nessa is awesome. Thank you for everything! Melt ice!!
So glad we stopped here for lunch! Wonderful sandwiches with a family recipe that’s 60+ years old from Guadalajara. We got the El Macario (pork sandwich with covered with yummy sauce), and it was the best decision we made all week. The guacamole and chicharrones were also excellent. The staff’s so kind and welcoming, great addition to the neighborhood!!! Will be returning!
Macario is awesome! I love how simple the menu is and the idea of doing a few things really well! I’ve never had lonches before they opened and they taste amazing. The sauce is especially good, tons of flavor with just enough spice. The owner and team are super hospitable too! Everyone we come in we get sample of their bread, sauce, and guac. For sure stop by if you want a quick lunch or don’t feel like cooking dinner. Definitely a go to of mine in the area now.
We read about these saucy sandwiches in the NY Times, and they definitely are worth the hype! We had the pulled pork and Mexican cheese sandwiches drenched in sauce. Absolutely delicious! The bread is apparently custom made just for Macario and the fillings are very flavorful. The chicharrones with guacamole were also fluffy and crispy. The staff are lovely and are happy to make suggestions. Happy to have a new favorite sandwich place.
The sandwiches are absolutely delicious and the staff was very warm, inviting and helpful. We came in with our fussy toddler and even he enjoyed their yummy offerings. Nice big booth seats takes you back to an older time when restaurants were comfy and made for families and couples looking to relax with good food.
Great addition to 4th Ave - perfect lunch portions. Vegetarian (cheese) sandwich did not feel like an thought, and they have special veg sauce! Will be venturing back come summer time for their frozen key-lime pie slices too
The pork bañado is a revelation, I couldn’t eat it fast enough. Loved the guac with chicharron too. I believe I had the pleasure of being served by the owners, whose passion was infectious and hospitality was matchless. Try everything on the menu, this place is the bomb. Thanks Macario, keep it up!
I walked into Macario randomly and couldn’t have made a better choice. The staff were very friendly, asking if I’d been there before. When I told them I hadn’t, they not only explained the menu, but also gave me a sample of the sauce and protein options. The owner began speaking to me, passionately explaining the inspiration, a 60 year old family recipe, as well as the quality of ingredients. I chose the pulled pork and I was blown away! I should’ve taken a photo of the sandwich, because it was very well presented, but my mouth was watering after the samples. I will absolutely be back and I don’t even live in the neighborhood.
Easiest 5 star I’ve given in a while. Upon entering I was immediately greeted by the very friendly and enthusiastic owner who explained the menu, some history of the food, and any other questions I had. I was also served extra guacamole and frozen lime pie on the house. Food was delicious, service was great!
First time experience was very delightful. The service was great, and the food was incredible. A sandwich different than I’ve ever had before and the flavor was just outstanding. You must try the lime frozen pie. It’s to die for.
Wonderful people running this loncheria! It’s an interesting backstory about this part of Guadalajaran cuisine. They have really custom bread they’ve developed with a local bakery for authenticity and source fresh ingredients. You can taste the freshness, quality, and the unique history/heritage. We enjoyed speaking to the owner and I think everyone should give this a try! Really cool way to get a glimpse of that part of North America through the taste buds and texture of the crafted dishes. It’s a simple, straightforward menu that might offer clarity into the cultural aspect of the cuisine, I think. Delicious!!!
Owner was super welcoming when we first entered and took his time to walk us through the menu. The sandwiches were fantastic, whatever they use to make the tomato sauce is perfectly balanced and flavorful. I wish more places had focused menus like this where they can do a few things super well. Definitely returning.
One of the most perfect sandwiches I've had in a long time. The sauce couldn't be more flavorful. The bañados and prensados are things of beauty.
This place is awesome!!! We went today and the staff are so nice and welcoming. If it’s your first time, they give you a sample of their bread (made at a nearby bakery just for them) and sauce (which is so freaking good). My husband and I split one of the lonches bañados as per the staff’s suggestion, and thank goodness we did because it’s enormous (the pic shows 1/2 of the sandwich). It’s kind of like an enchilada but with delicious sourdough-like bread instead of tortillas. It was so delicious. Chips and guac were also great. Huge portions at very affordable prices, and such a unique meal that you can’t get at other Mexican restaurants. I highly recommend.
This is a new casual spot that’s worth a try! Basically, it’s a sandwich so saucy you need to eat with a spoon! Only 3 sandwiches on the menu but it’s quality over quantity here and they’re all incredible and the portions are humongous. The sauce - a family recipe from Guadalajara - is so flavorful, with just a touch of spice. Somehow it was perfect for both my husband who loves spice, and me who’s terrified of it. It was delicious. They also have quesadillas and the best guac in town. The owner and staff are all incredibly helpful and friendly (shout out to Paola and Diana!). The owner mentioned they’ve been open just under a month and have more plans for hosting the works of local artists on their walls. This place has the makings of becoming a neighborhood gem.
Macario serves an authentic style lonche (sandwich) specifically from Guadalajara, Jalisco, MX. The bread is delicious and crunchy, the shredded pork is juicy, but the smokey tomato sauce is key! Bañado means “bathed” so be prepared to drench your lonche into some delicious sauce. If it gets a little soggy just know that’s a feature of the signature style, not a bug. If you like cheese, make sure to try a lonche prensado or ask them to add Panela to your lonche! It’s one of México’s most popular cheeses. And as you enjoy your food make sure to enjoy the posters and decor hanging up calling back to Mexico’s golden age of cinema. Some posters are of the titular masterpiece Macario from 1960! Saludos de parte de un tapatío en Brooklyn!
We got the el macario with pulled pork and guacamole - both were delicious!! We will absolutely be returning and highly recommend. The staff here are so friendly, just overall a wonderful vibe and dining experience.
Some of the best lonches I’ve ever had!! The sauce, the flavor, the portions. To top it all off, the staff are super nice and gave us free samples to try since it was our first time! Amazing spot that I’ll be recommending to everyone.
My girlfriend and I first stopped by Macario on a whim and we’ve already been back since. Their signature Macario sandwich is truly one of a kind: warm, soaked in a rich, flavorful sauce and served in a tin, where you eat it with a spoon. The pork is my favorite but the chicken is also fantastic. The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly and the whole place runs smoothly. The vibe is lively without being hectic - perfect for a quick lunch, a casual dinner, or whenever you’re craving something comforting and unique. Macario is easily one of the most distinctive spots in Park Slope and we’ll definitely keep coming back. Could not recommend it enough!
Authentican jalisco lonches!! You have to come and try these! We got the “el macario” and the pork quesadilla, the guacamole with chicharron everything was Spectacular! We were greeted by the owners and everyone is so friendly and welcoming we are definitely coming back
5 stars all around. Super cute restaurant on a super cute block. Bright, warm and modern. Service was so inviting, and the food was awesome. The sandwiches are a staple of Guadalajara and unlike anything else in Brooklyn right now. Flavorful and delicious! Huge portions!
Macario is hands down the best lonches bañados in NY! Marshal and Vanesa go above and beyond with their delicious food and great service. As a guy from Guadalajara, I vouch and highly recommend this amazing spot. Truly a rising hidden gem!

Amazing sandwiches. Unlike anything I’ve ever had before. The service was extremely kind and helpful. Would highly recommend!
I wish I had taken a picture of my food, but I can confirm that what I had was incredible. I got the classic sandwich that is smothered in their rich tomato sauce. The bread was crusty and pillowy and the meat was perfectly tender. I met the owner Marshall and he was as passionate as he was knowledgeable about the cuisine. I've never had Mexican food like this but learning more about what made this food distinct from other Mexican food made the experience all the more special. If you're in the neighborhood or visiting Park Slope, please try Macario. It's new and it needs to last long in the neighborhood to become an icon.
I found out about this place in an article a while back. A friend and I went a week ago and I literally couldn't stop thinking about this sandwich. The bread and the sauce could literally be sold by themselves it's SO good. Since I couldn't stop thinking about this I came all the way back over here to eat it again and it was just as good the second time... maybe EVEN BETTER. The service exceptional. I love when a store is passionate about what they are serving and explain how to enjoy the food the best way. AND explain how to reheat it. Anyways, not only does this sandwich make me happy but people brighten your day. If you're still reading this review here's the address just click on it and head Macario's way! IT'S WORTH IT!!! 463 4th Ave Store 1, Brooklyn, NY 11215
Holy moly! So GOOD! I grabbed sandwiches to-go, ate them at my friends’ house around the corner. Pretty sure I was speaking with the owners, they gave specific instructions on how to properly enjoy the food since I wasnt dining in, and oh boy Im glad i followed instruction! The pulled pork and pulled chicken are perfectly cooked, the bread is exquisite, crunchy crust and fluffy interior, but these sandwiches are about the sauce. The macario sauce is complex and bright. It is not heavy at all so isnt a belly bomb, and absolutely could go on so many different food items. Only reason for not giving five stars for atmosphere is that the vibe is ya sit ya eat ya go. But the place is clean, right off the G/F 4th av 9th st stop, and the warmth from the owner/operators was palpable and genuine.
Stopped by here yesterday after walking past a few times and decided to check it out—so glad we did. This place is an instant gem. The food is absolutely delicious, and they’re doing a really authentic, unique Mexican specialty sandwich that I’d never seen before. I had the chicken lonche, which was incredibly flavorful and very filling. The sauce was outstanding, and the bread was super fresh. We also met the owner, Marshal, who was very welcoming and great to chat with. Highly recommend Macario, and I’m already looking forward to going back to try the pork lonche next time.
Everything in nyc is old news, except for Mecario. I can’t name one person who wouldn’t love a saucy sandwich with tender pulled meat on a warm baguette, but when it comes with an authentic family sauce recipe from Guadalajara, Mexico you know you’re in for a treat. Even you vegetarians can get a quesadilla here, or the yummiest guacamole. Try their lime cake or the popsicles (possibly a secret menu item) and you will never be disappointed. The staff are the best and we’re so lucky to have this neighborhood gem!
I got the pork prensado and it was great. I hadn't had a sandwich like that before- closest comparison is a high quality meatball sub. the bread is excellent, crusty but soft and good sourdough flavor. Prensado could have been saucier tbh- I was hesitant about the messiness of the bañado, but maybe I'll try it next time because the sauce really makes the sandwich imo!
A true neighborhood gem that also qualifies as a destination spot. Take one step into Macario and be prepared to feel welcomed and at home; the staff is truly so warm and kind and eager to share their food. And that food! The signature sandwich — the only sandwich I've ever had that's best eaten with a spoon — is incredibly delicious. I feel like I could drink that signature sauce! And the bread is robust enough to absorb all that sauce and still maintain its integrity and flavor. I can't wait to try everything on the menu! I definitely recommend eating in the restaurant if you can, because then you might get treated as I did to a tasty new menu addition, like their homemade frozen lime pie. Yum!
I have been to Macario more times than any other establishment in NYC, and I just found out it has only been open for 6 months! It was on my radar ever since someone ate one of their sandwiches next to me in a coffee shop and the smell just could not be ignored. I would recommend anyone to stop by and dine in the next time they are in the vicinity of 4av/9th street, because the staff are so welcoming and it is the most exciting experience around for lunch or a casual evening meal!
Great new spot in the area for unique Mexican sandwiches from Guadalajara, haven't found these at any other spots in NYC. Bañado pulled pork sandwich covered in the sauce was the clear star, but the frozen lime dessert was great too. Marshall and the team have a fun chill atmosphere, will definitely be back
The food was excellent! I really enjoyed El Macario. The birote bread is fresh and the pork with the Macario sauce was so flavorful. It’s a little hot for people that don’t like any spice. The staff was amazing and very welcoming. They clearly care about the customers and want to make sure people enjoy the experience. It was also really nice to talk about Real Madrid and Arsenal Thank you for the food and I hope to be back soon
Stopped in here for lunch today and it was wonderful! We got two different kinds of sandwiches and they were both outstanding. The sauce on the bañado was killer, you’ll want to put it on everything. The staff was so welcoming and appreciative that we stopped in. Service was top notch. We will be back!

I definitely recommend eating in the restaurant if you can, because then you might get treated as I did to a tasty new menu addition, like their homemade frozen lime pie. Yum!
Stopped in here for lunch today and it was wonderful! We got two different kinds of sandwiches and they were both outstanding. The sauce on the bañado was killer, you’ll want to put it on everything. The staff was so welcoming and appreciative that we stopped in. Service was top notch. We will be back!
The sandwiches are absolutely delicious and the staff was very warm, inviting and helpful. We came in with our fussy toddler and even he enjoyed their yummy offerings. Nice big booth seats takes you back to an older time when restaurants were comfy and made for families and couples looking to relax with good food.
