Las Puertas is special for Buffalo. Small place, tasting menu that changes regularly. Delicious drinks. Excellent service. The owner/chef Victor has brought out at least one of the dishes and chatted both time I’ve been there. Victor, if you read this the carne asada was amazing and I’m still thinking about it. Pricey but highly recommend if it’s in your budget.
We recently had dinner on a random Wednesday night and feel this is one of the best meals we have had in a long time if not ever! Between the two of us, we ordered the set menu as well as pretty much every add-on that was available. We are so glad we chose this option as we would have been disappointed if we missed out on any of the items. Because it was a slow night we had the attention of our server/bartender who made specialized drinks and entertained us the whole evening. It was my first exposure to a miso cocktail as well as duck fat cocktail and cauliflower soup. The duck and beef entrees were tender and delicious while desert was an amazing finish. Overall we had more than just a meal… it was a dining experience!!
Las Puertas is a hidden gem, tucked away in a neighborhood in South Buffalo. The 5-course meal was exquisite, one better than the next. The Owner stopped to chat and the waiter was perfectly attentive. I'll be back.
Overall, my group of 4 had a delightful experience. The ribeye (4th course) was by far all of our favorites-the flavor combination was ideal. The gnocchi in the soup (2nd course) was the best I’ve had-perfect consistency. Unfortunately, I found the dessert to be slightly disappointing. Also, it was rather cold for our liking, but the overall atmosphere was lovely. I would highly recommend this to adventurous eaters- what a hidden gem!
Came here for our anniversary dinner and it was so worth it! The service was great and the food was excellent! It’s got a great cozy and aesthetic ambiance and I’m so happy that I finally got to try here! I would definitely recommend for a special night out! I’ve had the pleasure to eat at several Michelin starred restaurants and this definitely gives the same kind of food experience!
If I could give this restaurant and the Chef and his Staff 100 stars I would! The restaurant itself is beautiful. It's cozy, it's clean, the music is perfect the aesthetic is warm and inviting. The servers we had were so kind and knowledgeable, even remembered that we were travelling for our honeymoon! This was our number one spot we wanted to visit for a dining experience and they unfortunately had to close Friday when we had reservations but made it happen for us the next night. We are so happy they did. Pacing of the dishes coming out was perfect and each time the servers detailed out the fish with a clear love for their job, the food and the chef. You can tell this is a well loved profession for them. The dishes themselves were AMAZING! If we lived in the area this would be our date every time the menu changed. We would need to try everything! Everything was cooked to perfection and so beautiful. This line up of dishes was the best ABSOLUTE BEST dining experience and flavors I have had at a restaurant. The chef is so talented and clearly loves what he is doing. He brought out the main course to our table and even stopped to chat with us and share a glass of wine at the end and talk restaurant with my fiance who also works in the industry and chat about our wedding. What an amazing unforgettable experience! Thank you so much!!!
After eating a 3 star Michelin restaurant in Paris just last week, I can say this tasting was 100% better than that! The prices are reasonable for the food being served and each dish was a delight and a larger serving than I'd expect for a tasting. We went on Wednesday when they were doing a vinyl night and also offered an à la carte menu which was perfect for me as I don't eat meat so I could choose the meatless options, only. The owner and other server were very friendly and hospitable and the chefs in the back obviously know what they're doing - every dish was cooked perfectly. We will definitely be back and hope everyone tries it out!
we decided to go to this restaurant because we knew that the chef was a highly rated. James Beard award-winning connoisseur of food creation. having read the reviews, we understood that this would be an experience and that the check would reflect the totality of the food, the service, and the atmosphere. well yes, the food was pricey but really not that much more than going to a football game or dinner and a night out at a high-end concert venue. we were going for the experience as well The food was amazing. Victor was on duty and he spent a generous amount of time with our family answering our questions and demonstrating his love of the cuisine creation journey all the way down to the details of how the cilantro was procured and how the servingware was curated. this did not disappoint
Had a lovely experience at Las Puertas! Had a reservation for 4 on a Friday night - friendly staff, the courses were served at a nice pace, and the food was delicious. As someone who likes to enjoy these kind of prix fixe experiences when I visit larger cities, I love that this is available right in my neighborhood in Buffalo. I enjoyed adding the wine paring with dinner as well. Definitely recommend!
Las Puertas is a phenomenal restaurant, one of the best Buffalo has to offer, easily of the same caliber of any restaurant in Brooklyn. Creative tasting menus, constantly changing, with inventive twists on Mexican cuisine like grilled plantain with pink mole, and a ridiculously good pork chop with a side of bone marrow. On the pricey side for Buffalo but very much worth it.
Phenomenal experience. Be prepared to trust your palate to chef Victor and you won't be disappointed. His tasting menu makes you feel like your living an episode of top chef or at some high end restaurant in New York city or Los angels. Yes, it's pricey but the level of food and service makes it worth it. Highly recommended!
I came here on a cold Sunday night w my GF, after finding this resto on Tock. I am giving it a 4 only b/c of my singular experience this day. I bet another time it would be a 5. We did their tasting menu- ironically I’d say the main course could’ve used more taste (molé chicken). In my opinion the tasting menu should be refined before charging standard tasting menu prices (4 course, mostly small portions). Otherwise great drinks and really nice environment inside with minimal but nice decor for a clean look and feel.
If you only care about presentation, not the portion size or the quality🤗you might be satisfied. The open kitchen being located right in front of the restroom was also a bit off-putting for me.
We decided to go to this restaurant abd try their multi course experience. I have mixed feelings about the food but the service and atmosphere was pretty nice. The courses we ordered were very decorative and beautifully presented. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the course selection. It's not that the dishes tasted bad but I feel like my taste palette doesn't match up with what they're going for. My partner with me highly agrees with me and enjoyed every course. The service was excellent. The person tending to our table was very attentive and came by often. The courses came out pretty quick as well. The atmosphere was nice and warm. It is a tiny restaurant but there weren't many people to feel cramped. The bathroom is a single person room that's very clean. In my opinion, I wouldn't go back due to the price as well as the course items but I encourage anyone who's interested in this type of dining experience to try it out if you have the funds or think you'll like what's being served.
Would say the food was great but it came out to $400 for my wife and I. I ordered the wine pairing, but the pours were a bit light, and my wife enjoyed her margaritas, albeit 50%+ ice. Some have mentioned that it is Mexican, and while certainly Mexican influence, I think the restaurant would be the first to tell you that it’s not similar to a Cosme or Atla menu. Service was great and appreciated the staff. Wouldn’t recommend the tasting menu nor wine pairing, would try the a la carte next time and order a bottle of wine.
Good food, priced high. Dinner for 2 (325$) The atmosphere is very clean and relaxed. But the burned out light bulb and fake plants didnt leave me longing for a second trip. The food is delicious-- and the service is good. So good in fact we paid the bill and left in about 1 hour. Really a tough spot for this price point because it is a tasting menu. The portions are modest, but elevated. The chef is obviously talented and well versed but.. If you are out for special night better have plans for after because it is a short and expensive dinner.
This was one of those experiences where you walk out wondering how it added up the way it did. The restaurant leans heavily into exclusivity and mystery, but instead of feeling special, it feels calculated. There’s a noticeable lack of clarity around what you’re committing to, and by the time everything unfolds, you realize the value simply doesn’t line up with what’s being delivered. The food itself isn’t terrible — it’s just not remarkable. The presentation tries very hard to signal “elevated dining,” but once you get past the plating and the lengthy explanations, the flavors don’t justify the build-up. It feels like you’re paying for the performance of fine dining rather than an exceptional meal. What makes it more frustrating is that the entire experience seems designed to create the impression of something rare and luxurious, without actually backing that up in a meaningful way. When the final bill reflects a premium experience, the food, service, and atmosphere should clearly support it. Here, that connection just isn’t there. I left feeling like the concept is priced far above what it actually delivers. For what you receive, it’s difficult to see the value.
It was good, not great. I don't mind spending this amount of money for a meal, but when I do, I have high expectations. This just didn't hit the mark for me. The carne asada was salted and seared well but there was a lot of fat and gristle that I had to work through to get to the good parts. The seared pork was a bit dry and the lobster was just alright. For mini lobster raviolis that cost $12 / piece, I expected more.
Let me start by saying this is the first review I have ever written. I won’t even complain about the portion size, although many people would. The food just really wasn’t that good. Very little flavor, unimpressive choices and not nearly a fine dining experience. Then the bill came.. the price was completely outrageous. I find it difficult to understand how anyone could justify those prices for what was delivered.
Service was great. Food was fine but nothing life changing. The main course was two small pieces of brisket on some black beans--was dry and lacked salt. Two people having one cocktail + tasting menu was $322 after tipping 20%. Atmosphere, amount of food, and price did not come close to matching up and going THAT expensive in the neighborhood they're in does not feel right at all.
Extremely disappointing experience, especially for the price. You’re required to reserve with a $45 per person commitment, but at no point during the booking process is the full menu or total cost clearly laid out. Only once you’re seated do you learn that the actual cost lands somewhere between $125–$175 per person — and that’s before drinks, add-ons, tax, or tip. That’s a significant difference from what most people would reasonably expect walking in. Premium pricing can absolutely make sense in cities like Toronto, NYC, or LA. But in Buffalo, the overall experience needs to match that level in a very clear and transparent way. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case here. The biggest issue is the lack of upfront pricing clarity. Guests should know exactly what they’re committing to before they sit down. Discovering the true cost after being seated creates an uncomfortable position and leaves a negative impression. I also noticed that some critical reviews don’t seem to stay up for long, which makes it harder for customers to get a full picture before booking. Overall, I left feeling frustrated and misled. For this price point, there are other restaurants that are far more transparent and deliver an experience that feels aligned with what you’re paying. I wouldn’t return.
I was very disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. Based on the pricing and the hype surrounding it, I expected a much higher level of quality and value. Unfortunately, the food and overall experience did not justify the cost in my opinion. I would strongly encourage others to carefully review both the positive and negative feedback before deciding to dine here. After my visit, I found that many of the concerns mentioned in lower-rated reviews closely reflected my own experience. There are many great dining options available, and for the price point, I believe there are better choices that offer stronger value and consistency.
If you’re thinking about trying this restaurant in Buffalo, here’s the honest truth: save your money. They advertise a $45 per person reservation, which already feels steep, but what they don’t make clear upfront is that there’s a $125 per person at minimum once you sit down. By the time you realize what the actual commitment is, you’re already seated and essentially locked in. That kind of pricing structure should be crystal clear before anyone walks through the door. And the worst part? The food absolutely does not justify it. The portions are small, the flavors are mediocre at best, and there’s nothing about the experience that warrants that kind of bill. You walk in thinking you’re paying for something special, and you walk out feeling like you’ve been taken advantage of. Charging premium prices is one thing — plenty of great restaurants do that — but you have to deliver premium quality and be upfront about what people are signing up for. This place does neither. There are far better spots in Buffalo that will give you great food, generous portions, and transparent pricing without making you feel robbed. Do yourself a favor and spend your $125 somewhere that actually earns it.
