Came here for my grandmothers birthday as she wanted German food and the servers and bartenders were beyond amazing. They absolutely made this experience wonderful. So accommodating and attentive to little details. As a veteran bartender I can say these people know what they're doing.
Food was very good and so was the service! Was speaking with the owner, Will, for a bit and he recommended that we try his wings. Best. Wings. Got to try the chili lime and medium! Great sauce and amazing crunch on the wing!
Got lost searching for an open house for a school program and popped in to get my bearings, I had a Coke and admired the beautiful stained glass windows above the bar, amazing vibe, also the owner was so friendly and helpful, he said my Coke was on the house ❤️ I’ll definitely be back
They just started selling a sandwich. The bartender Joe is awesome at drinks and conversation. Women's bathroom is heated(in winter) and clean every time. I love the outdoor seating when it's available. It's got plenty of space for groups or single people. It has a good atmosphere and darts, plus you can pick your music or watch football (soccer) matches frequently. Their FB page advertising is spot on and it's my new favorite spot!
Hole-in-the-wall club type of place. Very laid-back, easy-going, and quiet (well, as quiet as a bar with live music can get). They have chairs and tables near the live music and bar, but if you're looking to have a quieter conversation they also have several tables farther away. Most importantly the employees and customers were extremely friendly, and everyone seems very happy with the little nest they've made for themselves. Highly recommended, and will definitely be dropping by during my next visit to Buffalo. Say hi to Sal for me.
Great food! There was an unexpected rush while going there and the waitress (who also was the bartender) handled it like a champ. We were impressed at how she kept her composure and friendliness! The food was well worth the wait. Very cool atmosphere!
Ulrich's has a really cool, genuinely vintage atmosphere. Small, but nice craft beer selection, and the bartender and waitress were warm, welcoming, and attentive. The bar itself is a gem, a reminder of the old, blue collar Buffalo. A quaint little corner antique, situated in the midst of the resurgence. Hopefully it'll stay intact, as a beautifully aged reminder of Buffalo's history.
Drinks were a good price. Place has a cool history. It's kind of small, back portion not in use. I imagine it can get busy on usual evenings.
Buffalo oldest bar and my neighborhood pub. Superb atmosphere and beverages if you can figure out when they’re actually open. Which may or may not be half the fun.
This place is historic--the longest continually running bar in Buffalo. It's cozy, casual, sometimes quiet and sometimes very busy, often for happy hour. Very friendly bartender. Under new ownership/management and FAR better than it used to be. Very good selection of craft beer on tap and in bottles & cans. Food used to be mediocre, I've heard it's gotten better. The restaurant is rarely crowded and the bar is frequently packed. I'd definitely recommend to anyone, local or visiting.
The atmosphere was great. I felt like it was a century ago. We had fishfrys. They were large with ample sides but the fish was a little greasy & the fries oversalted. However it was my 1st visit there & I would like to go again sometime to try there German food...but I didn't see any liver dumpling soup...maybe it'll be a soup of the day
Historic, atmospheric, and comfortable real German-American tavern (not kitschy). Our food was good, and I would go back, but it was not to die for. The wiener schnitzel was a little over cooked, and the chicken pot pie under cooked with flavors not melded and savory. I will go back some time to try a couple of the other menu items that looked interesting though. The outside service that we had was excellent.
Dingy and virtually empty except for a handful of bar regulars. My onion soup was much too salty and the grilled cheese sandwich was much too greasy. My partner liked her mac and cheese. The waitress was attentive and the beer list was loaded with well chosen brews. I'd stop in again for a beer but it's not the place I'd bring friends from out of town.
Place was busy for a Thursday night!! We ordered some Ulrich wings, which weren't my thing (to each their own when it comes to flavour), but the celery was limp and almost colourless - it really wasn't even servable, let alone edible. Waitress was pleasant. Would definitely not buy food here again. Crowd atmosphere was fun and lively though. Nice selection of beers.
Website and Google says it's open Wednesday- Friday 3pm till 11 pm. Came here on Friday with a group of Germans on a pub crawl and it was completely closed, no sign. Huge disappointment.
There is no food at all. Except popcorn from a machine. How German is that? It's a nice bar with 29 taps but no German. Guinness, Blue Light, Great Lakes, etc.
I had seriously high hopes for Ulrich's when I first came here. I've been hearing about this place for years from friends and co-workers, especially about the food quality. I had family in from out of town and decided to try Ulrich's out, especially since some of those family members reminisced about how they used to frequent this place. Unfortunately, reminiscing was the best thing about the night. We had a party of 9 on a Good Friday, but on entering the restaurant there was only one table seated during prime-time hours. We were seated while we waited for the last three people to arrive (approx 5 min later). It took the waitress over 10 minutes to take their drink order, after serving the first 6 to arrive. It was another 10 minutes before she came around again to take food orders. Despite being Good Friday there was only one bartender, and one hostess/waitress on shift. The appetizers came out first and were 50/50 when it came to quality. The french onion soup was heavily over-salted and had almost no broth - just a large heap of overcooked onion and cheese indicating it had been made and sitting for days being re-heated repeatedly. The wings came out hot, crispy, and tasting exactly how these out-of-town folk had been craving. The problems were with the main course. Absolutely abysmal cannot describe the experience. The cooks had no concept of pacing when it comes to cooking, plating, and serving. It took a full 15 minutes from when the first plate came out, until the last plate came out. One order had a side of fries that had completely cooled by the time the plate arrived - to the point where you could taste the cold oil oxidizing. The fish fry was small, undercooked, and flooded with oil(the last plate to come out), the 1868 Oktoberfest was burnt and dried out(although the kraut was slamming), and the cooks forgot the salmon part of the Caesar salad with salmon requiring it to be cooked after the plate arrived(and promptly overcooked). Many of us sat with empty glasses until we went to the bar to get refills ourselves. Even upon leaving there were only 3 other tables seated - on Good Friday at 8pm. I don't entirely blame the wait staff for the problems of this night, every part of the experience screamed management problems. It's strongly apparent after one evening that there is a lack of management ability, or a complete apathy when it comes to running this business. Ulrich's is some place I have to strongly recommend staying out of; unless owners or management change for the better this is another Buffalo landmark that will be closed with two years.
