Fun, cute little bar with lots of vegan options. The drinks were good, burger and onion rings were even better. Lots of private tables to sit at and low noise to hear each other talk, so good place for a date or a meet-up with friends. Felt more like a restaurant than a bar.
We had a great time! Food and service was amazing, atmosphere is awesome. I wish someone talked to us like a Pirate, but they didn't. We're still going back! :)
What an unbelievably amazing find! I found it online a few weeks ago and went in today for the first time and was blown away. Incredible drink menu, incredible food options, incredible atmosphere and top-notch service from Tyler! This is the type of place that you would see me at weekly if I live closer. That said, I will make an effort to go as often as I possibly can. You are instantly transported to another place and you forget about the outside world until you walk back out the door. I could have stayed there all day! This is definitely one of the higher ones on my list of places that have become an instant favorite. Amazing experience!
Great experience! Food and cocktails were fantastic. The only thing better was our server Steve! Amazing knowledge and hospitality.
First time back since the renovation and it didn't disappoint! Server was spot on with everything.... She knew how to describe every dish, sauce, and cocktail perfectly and without it being oversimplified or an overly descriptive disaster. Drinks were wonderful!- flavorful, strong, but not in an off-putting way, and presented nicely with great garnishes. The food was also delicious.... Quite creative and very well done! Loved the new interior and looking forward to it next visit!
Stopped in for 2 drinks and was surprised by the decore. Our server was prompt, but the bartender sort of took his sweet time even though only 6 people in the bar. Mai Tai was pretty good. Navy Grog was extremely grapefruity with bitter. Almost undrinkable. I'd go back for sure but will sit at the bar.
A MUST TRY! The outside is unassuming. You almost don't feel like you're in the right spot but when you enter it's like being transported! Atmosphere, menu, service ALL stellar and above expectations! The menu offers a variety of land, sea and veggie. The deviled eggs up your grandma's game to a whole new level. The club is earthy, full flavored. The shrimp tacos just simply divine! And of course the cocktail menu...YUM!
This place is really fun with great food and drinks. The atmosphere is the best. I wasn't sure what to expect when coming here for a family birthday dinner as I came with a child and felt it probably wasn't the best idea for him to come. I was totally wrong. The staff was nice, saw other kids there and they had great options for everyone (adults and children). I ordered the poke for myself thinking it wouldn't be a lot based on pictures I saw and once again I was wrong. The portion was huge and amazing that everyone at our table kept picking at them. The drinks were so good as well. I ordered a virgin mojito (it was one of those days lol) and it was full of flavor. I highly recommend this place!!!
Quality food, fast and great service here. There are plenty of employees and food moves fast. Surprised with the good price being in cali. The menu is extensive and dishes are a combination of ethnic/ modern to classic with a perfect size. It is family friendly with a lot of youths/teens. Parking can be a pain, so allocate time for it and there is no outside seating. Its all indoor. Great place and was worth my visit. A+.
A small party of us came in for a birthday recently, and we absolutely loved it. The decor was right on point, the food was good, the drinks were great, and Ty was one of the best bartenders we’ve ever had. What else do you need?
This is always a fun place to spend an evening. The food is great, the secret door to the actual bar is adda to the charm. The bartenders are all excellent at their craft, and are always working on a new drink. So ask for something off menu!
Just had the BEST burger at the broken, compass tiki! Yes, it was a special menu item… but it was the best burger I’ve had in a long time. Prepared very well and went very well with the sailor grog… Everyone should try this place. You might pay a little more than some places, but it makes up for it with good tasting food and really good drinks.
Great spot in the beautiful city of Burbank. Broken Compass has all aspects of a great tiki bar. The drinks are all great, the food is amazing and the decor is top notch. It's definitely one of our favorite spots
Cute tiki bar in Burbank. Came here on a Tuesday night after work and the place was nearly full. The decor is pretty much Pirates of the Caribbean in a fun way. Overall a very fun spot to check out. They have an extensive drink list and the few I tried were delicious - not all overly sweet as you’d expect from a tiki bar. The poke nachos were super tasty. Great vibes all around. Would consider making a reservation if you’re with a big party.
Perfect spot for a get-together with friends. Great atmosphere and decor. Fun drinks and variety of food. I enjoyed the vegetarian options.
The Cesar salad is the best! It spicy but only because of the garlic anchovy forward too! If you’ve been looking for a Cesar with a kick, you must try it! Everything else is amazing too! Painkillers!!!!!!
One of our favorite tiki bars in LA! Great food and drinks, we’ve been going for years and it’s been amazing to see Broken Compass develop its “lore” - truly a LA staple! Bartenders and staff are also super cool too. Sometimes service can be a little slow, it’s definitely a place to soak in the vibes and take your time enjoying a mai tai.
Holy WOW... The menu is clearly labeled, and the food is fantastic. The servers are on point, the kitchen is slaying it. Tonight I had there gluten-free fried chicken sandwich. The chicken was perfectly crispy and the seasoning was on point. I had it with their sweet potato fries, which are straight up some of the best sweet potato fries I have ever had. Absolutely fantastic. I got them with the garlic chive aioli, which complimented them perfectly. Wash it all down with a nice dry cider, and I am one blissful soul. If you're in the area, and you got a little pirate at heart and you, you got to try the broken compass. And the place is decorated perfectly for a tiki bar, and their selection of rum drinks, makes it all extra magic.
One of the best additions to the Tiki scene in LA. Always enjoy my drinks here and the cocktail of the month is always a blast. Don't sleep on all the homemade sauces. God bless the HORK.
On a rainy day, this was a terrific secret hideaway that a friend revealed to us. From the moment we entered, I was taken away by the decor. In fact, I would have given a 5-star review just on the waiting area! Took time to play some pinball and enjoy the setting. THEN came the restaurant. What a sensory overload, trying to take in every little tchotchke within the tiki kitsch was amazing. Did not have food, but every plate I saw was tempting. Should we keep this secret to ourselves?! It's perfect for those in the know, and a great surprise for those yet to discover!
You never want to order food just before the kitchen closes but in this case it was unavoidable. The team was very understanding, and the dishes came out hot, fresh and delicious. The staff was fun and enthusiastic. We came in Pirate attire since, hey, broken compass.
*Delayed post from July ‘25 We loved our experience at this hidden Tiki Bar in Burbank! While it took a bit to get a seat because the restaurant is busy, the waiting area is well decorated and includes a Gilligan’s island pinball machine to pass the time. Inside the entire space is curated with fun décor and low lighting. The Spam can string lights and octopus tentacles hanging off the ceiling were our favorites. As for food, I was super impressed with everything! We ordered the Pupu Platter for 2, which came with lots of appetizers. The coconut shrimp had a nice thick crust, with a sweet and spicy sauce. The aloha dippers were super soft in the middle, like mashed potatoes, but had a good crisp fry on the outside. They needed more seasoning (garlic and pepper would be delicious), so we dipped them in the remaining shrimp sauce. The battered spam slices reminded me of the light batter in fish and chips, but spam is naturally very salty, so mixing it with the macaroni salad was perfect! It had just the right amount of mayo and sweet pickles. The deviled eggs with miso were fantastic as well, with the toasted sesame seeds adding a hint of nuttiness and seaweed to bring in the salt. Of all the things on the platter however, these poke nachos were the best and I recommend ordering them just by themselves. They rival some of the best I’ve had in Hawaii! I love how light and crispy the wonton chips are, crumbling easily under the weight of the fish. The Ponzu and spicy mayo is perfectly tangy with an acidic yet sweet taste. Plus the black sesame seeds on time add a toasty nutty flavor that compliments the fish well. I was surprised at how fresh the fish tasted as well - not chewy at all! Lastly we also ordered the kalua pork tacos, which were insanely juicy. The corn tortillas hold the filling together well despite the amount of liquid dripping out. Also the pineapple was actually ripe and the sauce was tangy, but not too overpowering. Can’t wait to come back!
Beautiful tiki bar. Amazing decor with lots of little interesting references, as well as items from some of my favorite artists in the tiki community (Tiki Tony, Granito, etc.). For drinks, had the Chupacabra, which comes with a fiery presentation; also tasted outstanding. Great food, favorite was the Kalua Pork Tacos. Our server was super friendly and had awesome recommendations.
All ye land lovers who yearn to be pirates, this be a proper shindig! The decorations are fantastic! Do not be afraid to order the Pu Pu! It's perfectly shareable for two. Ask the wait person about the drinks and I promise...they won't steer ye wrong!
Wow. This place has such a dope vibe. Its part restaurant, part bar, part speak easy. We had the pleasure of hanging out with bar tender Monica and she was awesome. The drinks were strong, the laughs were plentiful, and the food looked amazing. We didn't eat but the people to our right and left had burgers and apps and it all looked and smelled so good. If youre in the area, its definitely worth stopping here and checking out this totally decked out Tiki Bar! Also, tell Monica we said hi!

What a great place! I had the pork tacos and a Banana Hammock drink. The pork tacos had pineapple and were so flavorful. Yummy! The banana drink was delicious and frothy and had a couple banana chips at the bottom. We also had the deviled eggs and the little popcorn chicken bites. Everything we ate was so delicious. The staff was friendly and we had excellent service. The decorations, the lighting, the sounds, everything here is what you would want in a perfect Tiki bar restaurant.
Broken compass is one of my favorite restaurants in the valley. Not only is the themed decor amazing and detailed and so fun, the staff are so friendly, but the big thing is this is seriously some of the best food around! Their menu is the perfect size but seriously it's like some gourmet super talented chefs back there wow everything is perfect! The drinks are amazing and strong too - recommend their blended drinks and if you really wanna have a wild night get the Sailors Grog which they limit to two per person haha

Amazing everything! How have I lived in Burbank for 30 years and not found this place sooner. I'm not a tropical drink fan but the martini ordered was among the best I've ever had. Spam sliders and deviled eggs are a must have. Going back again this week!
1st time visiting. Family & i orderd some apps & entrees. Overall food was very good. Was disappointed when we ordered their special which was spam & mac n cheese rolls. No spam found. Otherwise atmosphere is great. Love the HALLOWEEN decor. They apparently have time limits on how long you can sit at table. Love that concept! Will definitely return.
Amazing atmosphere. Service was a little "off". I had to approach the server and bartender myself. Nobody came to ask what I wanted to order. The music, drinks, and atmosphere was absolutely fun and amazing. The hostess in the front was super friendly and nice.
Unique place. Great atmosphere. Amazing servers and bartenders. Good service. I loved the flavor of my Old Fashion—just wasn’t too keen on the added ice. My “nachos” were pretty good with a seafood twist—enjoyed them but not sure I’ll order them again if I visit there again. Loved the whole vibe of this place. Definitely a place to visit.
I came here on the 9th of May and meant to leave a review about how wonderful this place was! From the atmosphere to the service to the delicious food and creative cocktails my partner and I were amazed by the place! Happy hour drinks and food were reasonably priced and worth it! I am only eating 4 stars because a side of pickles was $5.00 charge I only needed two pieces for my burger! 😆
Overall a super cute place to try that’ll well definitely want to try again. I’m not going to lie, based on reviews my expectations were high. For the drinks and food we got I would say it’s marked up about 10 to 15% too high. The service was pretty good. The kitchen was running behind, so it took a little bit to get the food out. I got the salmon Thai curry, which was an unusual small portion for the price. If you’re going to come here to get a beverage, I recommend more of the pub style eats. I would say everything fell just a little be short of expectation, but definitely willing to try again because this place has promise!
It's a Disney-esq speakeasy pirate tiki bar which sounds wild, but it works. Even the bathrooms are themed like a sunken ship. A few things to know: they will not seat you until your entire party has arrived and there is a 90 minute time limit once seated (excluding the bar). I ordered the lobster roll and it was adequate. Their chicken sandwich was actually quite good. The drinks are where they excel. I've tried several options and they are consistently strong and delicious. They are expensive but no more than any other Tiki bar I've been to. I wish they sold more Broken Compass tiki mugs. As of my last visit, they had only one and it was $70. The reason why I rated the service low is because my last server was power tripping. I ordered the small Scorpion Bowl so I could sip for a while without having to flag down the waiter for a second. Our server said, rather pretentiously, "fine, but I'm cutting you off." I asked if there was a two-drink limit. He said no. I pointed out that the scorpion bowl says it's for two people on the menu. He stared for a moment before saying something to the effect of "fine but I'll be watching you, because I don't want people getting plastered." That had already explained my reasoning behing the order with zero intent to get plastared. It really rubbed me the wrong way. Hopefully next time I'll have a better waiter. *** UPDATE *** I've revisited and has a MUCH better server. Also, they have a variety of new and unique tiki glasses and shirts. Their poke nachos were delicious. Wonderful improvements all around!
Service was great, and every dish we ordered was 10/10 in both flavor and presentation. Highlights included the surprise burger special, crispy fish taco, caesar salad, tots, brussel sprouts and onion rings. We were a little disappointed in the cocktails though. The 8-9 different cocktails we tried were okay but not as good as advertised, we expected more given that it is a tiki bar.
Such a cool bar! Very on brand for Tiki, more pirate themed, even the waiters dress up. Definitely busy on a Friday night and kitchen closes early but very pleasant vibes! Ordered the Scorpion bowl for two, which was kind of lemon heavy but not bad. The banana drink is phenomenal, however!! Highly recommend
Super fun tiki spot and the decorations makes you feel like you’re on a pirate ship. The drink specials really aren’t that great, but who cares because you come for the experience. Arr matey!!
Nice Tiki themed bar. We were guided to enter through a separate door. (kinda speakeasy-ish) once you enter, you will walk past the bar where you will notice a full Tiki theme. The food was OK, drinks were not bad. I would go for the drinks. Gratuity will be included on your tab.

It is a very interesting place. The bartender was great and really attentive to try to make the drink of my choice. They did not have a wide variety of drinks but they try to accommodate. The inside was dark and dirty looking. It really needs some brightening up, some beach scenery, tiki torches, a hut like atmosphere, palm trees, some life. It looks really dim & dead. Glad to enjoy such a great bartender.
Mom wanted fish and chips, so I googled and found this place. She really liked her fish and chips and she's picky. I was pleased to find that they also had gluten-free options labeled on the menu. My husband would have preferred more vegetarian options. He only saw one vegetarian entree but several sides. We will return to try some more of their food. Service was great. All servers were very attentive and nice. It felt very welcoming. We came on a Friday night, which was very loud and more of a bar atmosphere than restaurant. Good to know for future visits. I wouldn't mind coming here for my birthday. I hope weekday dining will be different.

Honestly this used to be a place I’d recommend because I was impressed with how good the food was and the tiki theme was well done, but the last couple times I’ve been here it seems the quality has gone way down. And considering you can’t really get out of here for less than $40 a person (drink + food) it’s really disappointing. Service was good but that was about it. Everything needed salt, the drinks were super strong but not in a good way, and their happy hour menu prices were—at least on fries and aloha dippers, exactly the same as on the regular menu. I didn’t check everything since not all HH items are on the regular menu, but isn’t the whole point of happy hour to offer some lower cost items to entice people to come in during less busy times? Anyway I’m bummed. Burbank needs more good food and bars and this place is really family friendly, but something happened that has affected the quality and I hope they can turn the ship back around (no pun intended). I’m rooting for you, I promise.
Food was really average and overpriced for what you received. Drinks were the same. Server was great but too heavy on the up sell and the bus boy was overing which made my guest uncomfortable. Decorations were way overdone but I get what they were trying for. I thought the table tent with house rules was hilarious. 90 minute limit to sitting at a table but then asking for our patience for a long wait time cause they have a small kitchen. When does the 90 minutes start? According to the receptionist, as soon as you sit down so you'd better eat fast.
Nice spot for drinks. Really cool vibe and quick service the day I was there. Friendly waiters. I think I'll still come back some time despite the rating I gave it. Just -2 stars as the burger was small/thin. It was good, but just too small for me. Didn't compare to the picture up front for the happy hour smash burger. Maybe whoever posted that got the pictures mixed up.
*DOUBLE CHARGED* This is a very cool tiki bar that has a fairly decent happy hour (what I went for). The decor is on point, the drinks are delish, food is great & nearly all the staff is super friendly. I’d actually give it 5 stars except for one caveat and it was significant .. I was double charged by over $170 on my debit card and the only way to rectify it was to drive BACK to the restaurant the next day (I don’t live in the same city). Once I realized, I immediately went to call but there is *NO* phone number anywhere and the only way to contact them is via an email portal on their site. Seeing as they had charged my debit card over $300 ($150 and then the overcharge $174) .. I had no choice but to drive there as this is quite a large amount that I needed back asap... I spoke w the manager/co-owner Frank, and only after I had “proven” the error (he couldn’t figure it out on his end), he refunded it & said to expect it back in my acct in 3/4 biz days (it was a Saturday). I reiterated how much this was a problem for me bc it was the wkend and he basically just said ‘oops, yeah .. sorry, nothing else we can do.’ .. there wasn’t much sincerity behind it, in fact it almost felt as if I’d inconvenienced him, not the other way around.. like c’mon, you’re holding $174 of mine until sometime next week and it’s your mistake which my only choice was to drive back here, the very least he could’ve done as a kind gesture was to offer a free drink or appetizer the next time. I guess they have enough business they just don’t care if I ever come back or not.
I guess there were some good and there were some bad at this place. Love the decorations the drink that I did get were good. They have a happy hour and they have a happy hour punch, but apparently they needed to make new syrup for the punch, though during the whole happy hour, they won’t give the punch we asked if there was an alternative drink and they said no. The syrup never got ready during the happy hour time. Also there’s tots listed on the happy hour menu to me. Happy hour indicates there will be a discount. There was no discount they were the same price as the other tots. We really did enjoy the atmosphere. It was relatively easy parking. They do apparently have an hour and a half rule! The only food we tried with the brussels sprouts and they were OK.
The entrance has speakeasy vibes. Unfortunately, the food and drinks didn't live up to the ambiance. The Thai Noodle Salad should be removed from their menu immediately, it was inedible. The fish tacos were decent but needed bigger tortillas. The drinks were average, very alcoholly. Perhaps we just ordered the wrong items. Others were enjoying themselves. After leaving here, we got food elsewhere. Not ideal after spending a Benjamin Franklin.
