Roof top outdoor pool and spa amazing experience. The Crescent is such a grand old building. Lovely stay for our anniversary

The hotel and spa facilities were absolutely stunning. Our room (408)was beautiful , it was like our own apartment. And the spa was very well maintained and very clean. And all the staff were more than helpful. A glass of fizz on arrival was a nice touch. The only thing we think let the experience down was the breakfast. Which was such a shame as we were so looking forward to it. In our opinion it wasn’t worth £25 each. My husband had the full English breakfast, he said the bacon and sausages were delicious, but the black pudding didn’t taste of anything. I had the eggs Benedict, the poached eggs were spot on, the ham was cold, as was the muffin, which didn’t seem to be toasted to me. Overall though it’s a beautiful hotel to stay at, and the spa facilities were fabulous! I would recommend it to our family and friends. We would definitely stay again, just maybe order a different breakfast? I hope you take this as positive feedback, as I think feedback of any kind is helpful.

A truly wonderful stay. Staff were polite and very attentive. The spa facilities were clean and tidy. The thermal heated pools were lovely. Definitely worth a visit. Hand written birthday card and macaroon for my wife was a wonderful touch.

We had the most incredible experience at Buxton Crescent from the customer service to the attention to detail we could not have asked for more. We were staying for my daughter’s 21st and it was perfect from beginning to end. The hotel staff were fantastic and the spa was amazing. We had everything we wanted, a great room, so well appointed, a fantastic meal and a truly impressive breakfast! Thank you so much for a memorable stay. We can’t wait to come back soon.

I booked a 1 night stay with full use of the Spa facilities & Swedish back massage for my partner & me. This was a birthday surprise spa break for the other half, & both spa & hotel exceeded my expectations. The hotel went above & beyond by playing a birthday video on the tv in the room, happy birthday greeting decorated plate with a small biscuit & a signed birthday card wishing him a happy birthday & an enjoyable stay. That was such a nice touch, thank you so much for making it extra special. The building inside & out is absolutely stunning, & the food is to die for. The Spa also was very relaxing and we had a great massage. Staff very attentive & friendly. Highly recommend & we will definitely return. Many Thanks.

We had a great stay. Room excellent, clean and comfortable. Plenty of tea, coffee etc and all items were refreshed daily. The staff we interacted with were all polite and professional and we found it so nice that all the staff, even if they were in the middle of something, would take the time to say good morning if we were passing. We only ate breakfast at the hotel but good selection to choose from each day. Only downside is parking. You can have valet parking, payable to the hotel or you have to park at meters in the long stay car parks situated about a 5 - 10 minute walk from the hotel

Got married on 04/10/2025. Clear and prompt communication. Transparent with pricings. Everything ran on time. All the staff were professional and warm in mannerisms. Received loads of compliments on the choice of venue. Great places to photograph - inside and outside. Would recommend to any friends and family in the future :)

Met a friend here, beautiful ensuite twin bed room. Lovely lounge areas, good bar. Restaurant breakfast was ample and served hot, also plenty of cold choices. The spa areas are subterranean, so many different rooms to choose, stunning areas, 4 pools in total, one of which is an indoor/outdoor with seating and bubbles, lovely and warm with a great view. Would highly recommend 👌 A *

We had a lovely overnight stay in Buxton. The room was great, bed extremely comfortable and a good breakfast. I really loved the pool that we could actually swim outdoors. The best thing about our whole experience was the quality of staff, friendly helpful and efficient.

Me and my wife had our wedding there on 31st October 2025, all the staff were amazing and made the day perfect. The venue itself is absolutely stunning, not just the Assembly Rooms where we had the wedding but the entire hotel. I would like to personally thank Nicole, Cat, and Alastair who were incredible. They are a credit to the hotel and business. Thank you to the entire team there that made our day one we will never forget.

We visited as part of my wife's 50th Birthday celebrations. The experience from start to finish is exceptional with amazing facilities. The staff both in the spa itself, reception, and restaurant are all fantastic and couldn't do enough for you. Ellie-May in the restaurant stood out with exceptional service and made our afternoon tea a wonderful experience. I had an Indian head massage with Sandra who made me feel very comfortable as it was my first time with such an experience. She followed up with further advice on a hand written card and provided me with some samples of the oil products used in the massage. Highly recommended! Thank you!

We went in grey day, gloomy weather, post xmass pre new year... We loved it... Architecture, small shops, amazing old chemist, crescent, etc etc... imagine nice sunny warm day!!! We will return! Lovely lovely town.

Comfortable room, dog friendly, spa wonderful when weather isn't so good. Great location. A lovely hotel for celebrating a special occasion. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent (expensive but to be expected in a hotel) Charge for dog is quite high compared to some accommodation but lovely that we could bring him down to outside the restaurant area for breakfast. The air conditioning in our room (220) was very noisy and we didn't realise we could control it in the room so didn't sleep well on first night. Felt the birthday macaron in the room for my husband could have included one for each of us.

Excellent stay well worth the expense. Our room was immaculate. The heated outdoor pool in the wind and rain amazing, great choice within the spa complex. Will definitely be booking again. X

Had a great time for a special birthday treat. Food and staff at the hotel was amazing, we ate in the evening and for breakfast. We spent a few hours in the spa and nowhere felt too busy even though the hotel was full. Will definitely be coming back

This is the nicest spa hotel I have ever stayed at in England. Staff were all so efficient and friendly. The spa itself is the right temperature, airy, light, clean and welcoming with great facilities. The hotel is just a short stroll from central Buxton.

The Buxton Crescent Hotel delivers exactly the kind of experience you hope for from a proper spa break, in a beautifully restored historic setting. The crescent itself is stunning from the outside, and inside the hotel balances period character with a modern, high‑end finish – shared spaces feel elegant and well looked after. On arrival, staff were able to offer a more competitive promotional rate than I’d seen online, which allowed me to upgrade my room, and the room then felt every bit like a genuine four‑ or five‑star product, with comfortable furnishings, a thoughtful layout and a bathroom that actually feels like a feature of the room rather than a missed opportunity.👌🏿 The spa facilities are outstanding and easily one of the best parts of the stay. There are multiple pools, including thermal and relaxation options plus the rooftop pool, and even without booking any treatments you can happily spend hours moving between the different areas and properly unwinding. The thermal area is particularly good, with a bio‑thermal sauna and aroma steam room alongside the pools, and a wide range of treatments available if you want to take things up a level. Even if you “only” use the pools and thermal facilities, the spa on its own feels exceptional. Dining at 1789 Restaurant was also a strong point. The room is stylish without being stuffy, and the food is well executed, with dishes that feel thought‑through and in keeping with the overall standard of the hotel. Service throughout – from reception, to spa, to restaurant – was consistently warm, professional and attentive, and the team come across as a real asset to the Champneys brand. There is no dedicated car park, but there is plenty of paid on‑street parking close by, free on‑street options within a few minutes’ walk, and the hotel also offers secure overnight valet parking for a fee if you prefer to leave the car with them. The hotel, restaurant and spa could each stand alone as good experiences in their own right, but taken together they make an exceptional package and a destination stay. Will absolutely visit again!

Stayed overnight with my partner for an anniversary celebration. The building is stunning, located right in the centre of Buxton. Our double room was immaculate and very comfortable and spacious. The pools, spas and saunas are fabulous. Breakfast was delicious, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money too.

On arrival, warmly welcomed and was checked in early. Chose the valet parking which was great, car brought round early next day but no pressure to depart until I was ready. Room was luxurious and spacious and a lovely gesture for my mum who's birthday we were celebrating. Spa visit was great, used rooftop pool and thermal areas with ease. Evening meal in main restaurant was lovely and the serving staff were very attentive and professional. Breakfast in the morning was lovely, lots of food choices, even for special diets from pastries, cheese, cereal, fruit and then a choice of full breakfast or speciality eggs. We finished our stay with an afternoon tea and this was absolutely beautifully presented and didn't disappoint. Can't wait to visit again

Absolutely fantastic, I felt thoroughly spoilt. Our room was huge and very comfortable too , a proper wardrobe to hang out clothes up . The spa area was just outside our room. The rooftop pool was like a warm bath with intermittent jets and enough space to swim too . The lower pools and steam rooms were delightful. Breakfast was out of this world, buffet choice and cooked breakfast all available. We didn't dine in the hotel but the menu looked good . We will definitely be visiting again.

Loved it. Brilliant value. Includes a good gym and one of the better spa's going. Really good finish to rooms and the dining, seating areas. Only minor negative was the evening meal in the restaurant had zero vibe, but it was a Sunday evening. Valet parking at the front for £30 a night, but you can park on streets for free a little walk away.

Recently visited for an overnight stay. We had the best time, and it really felt like luxury ( which we are not use too!! ). The reception staff, concierge staff, and spa staff where very friendly , and the little touches in the room for our anniversary where lovely. The room was stunning, super big bed, great bathroom, fancy toiletries, nice big towels, and lots of room in the bedroom, only one little thing would be the pillows where too soft for us making it uncomfortable at times, would be good to have 1 of each maybe ( soft and firm ). The decor is lovely all around the hotel, and it was easy to find free street parking, and you can drop your bags off in the car and then park up, and can leave your bags there the day of check out also, whilst you explore Buxton ( great location ). The spa was amazing, lots of different options, loved the rooftop pool and the relaxing pool, it was not too busy when we went, but on a weekend and with people visiting the spa for the day, can see that it may get crowded. Robes and flip flops provided in the room, and lots of fresh towels dotted around the spa. The breakfast was ok, the toast machine took ages, and it still didn’t toast.. and the fresh juice drinks didn’t get refilled. All in all we had the best time, and we’ve even booked ahead for next year, as soon as we got home. This really is the type of hotel where you don’t want to spend anytime out of the hotel, which you don’t have too as there’s plenty to do really!

Our stay at Buxton Crescent was wonderful from start to finish. My friend and I received a complimentary upgrade to a junior suite - very much appreciated to make our break away from our respective kids much more relaxing. The staff at check-in were brilliant - we had a great chat and were all laughing about our plans for the night and how excited we were about the room upgrade. The room was splendid and had multiple seating areas and the beautiful large bathroom with roll top bath I've come to know and love from this hotel. We spent a few hours in the spa in the evening and again in the morning. Both times, even when it was a little busier, we were able to do all that we wanted to do - the different heated pools were my favourite experience by far. The beds were extremely comfortable and we experienced little noise from the surrounding area at bedtime - we both had a very pleasant sleep. Breakfast was nice and I appreciated how ordering was very simple. Unfortunately we had to leave in a bit of a hurry as my husband (who had kindly booked the trip as a gift for us) was in a cycling accident on the morning of out departure. The lady at reception when we checked out couldn't have been more helpful and kind when I told her what had happened.

Really enjoyed our stay. The whole experience was great from start to finish. The only thing i would mention would be to request low volume relaxation music. Otherwise marvellous and weve already booked again.

We were very impressed with the hotel. Great location, nice new decor & very clean. The staff were helpful & friendly. The food was excellent both at breakfast & dinner. A great wine selection and variety on the children's menu, not just the standard junk food. The outdoor heated pool is very nice, our 3 yr old absolutely loved it. We will definitely be back!

What a lovely stay! It was lovely to have access to the spa for the nights we spent at this lovely hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was centrally located for Peak District sights. The only note was that our room was on an offset floor and did not have direct access to the lift. We initially declined help with our luggage and really regretted it due to the narrow halls and stairs. Thankfully, the help was offered again at checkout and we accepted gratefully. The location of the room did make it nice and quiet. There could be more counter space in the bathroom for organizing our toiletries, but the renovated/refitting was well appointed otherwise.

Lovely stay in this beautiful hotel. Check in was easy - (complimentary glass of prosecco always helps) reception staff were very helpful. Room was beautiful and spotlessly clean with views of the front of the crescent and park beyond. Spa was amazing and so relaxing followed by a comprehensive full english breakfast. Looking forward to our next stay.

We recently celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary with a stay at The Crescent in Buxton — my first visit to the town in many years — and it didn’t disappoint. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt special. We were warmly welcomed by the concierge, who helpfully advised us on parking, and the front-of-house staff were equally friendly and efficient, taking care of everything we needed for our short break. The spa was excellent and provided exactly the relaxation we both needed after a challenging year of teaching. It really was the perfect place to unwind, and The Crescent delivered in every respect. Our evening meal was beautifully presented and delicious — on the pricier side, perhaps, but the service was impeccable and made it feel worth the splurge. A lovely touch awaited us in the room too, with a “Happy Anniversary” message and a couple of thoughtful treats to mark the occasion. All in all, a highly recommended stay — elegant, relaxing, and made special by genuinely attentive service.

Stunning hotel with the best spa I've been to. Rooms are a little old, but this adds to the charm. Service was excellent, breakfast was delicious, and only wish I stayed a few more days!

Had a wonderful Wellness Break 2-night stay. Our room was beautiful, very comfortable & pristinely clean. The food was outstanding, the breakfast buffet, hot food menu & spa cafe a delight; good vegan options available. The service and all the staff were helpful and accommodating. The large spa the best thing of it all. The facilities are kept very clean to a high standard, all focused around providing a calm, relaxing experience. The roof-top pool with outdoor jacuzzi were stunning in the sunshine. A 2-night stay was just right to be able to enjoy all the facilities. As a fitness bunny the gym and the yoga studio were the cherry on top.

Fabulous Hotel We hadn't booked anywhere when we arrived in Buxton. We had a list of hotels from the tourist information and we definitely made the right choice. Amy was on reception when we arrived, she wa extremely helpful throughout our stay. The room was clean and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. The toiletries and bath towels are lovely. The spa facilities are great with a heated rooftop pool. We used the spa facilities each day, with a swim before breakfast. Great choice at breakfast, help yourself to cereal, fruit, etc or order a cooked breakfast. The building itself has so much character and is well kept. We had no problem parking on the road close to the hotel. Overall we had a great 2 night stay.

Beautiful building and very well renovated on the inside from the reception, hallways, bar and rooms. The Spa is excellent and very large, the out door pool on the roof is anice touch. Massage rooms and are well equipped with heated tables.

Hello, We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The interior exuded charm and a historical ambiance. My room featured high ceilings and elegant chandeliers, creating a refined atmosphere. The decor was tasteful and well-maintained, reflecting a high standard of quality. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and provided quality bedding. However, we encountered a minor issue with the window panels, which were excessively thin and allowed significant external noise to disturb our sleep. The service was commendable, and the cleanliness was impeccable. The rooftop swimming pool and variety of saunas were a welcome addition. Unfortunately, the restaurant fell short of expectations. The evening meal we experienced was overpriced for the quality of the food. Our allowance of £110 was just enough to cover two courses, with careful selection. We had ti buy additional extras separately, Sides such as chips or sweet potatoes were priced at £7, while the main meal, which was a standard chicken breast, would then average above £40. The dessert cost £15, and any remaining money in our allowance was not refunded. The menu was limited, offering few options, and the prices were excessive. This may explain why the menu and prices are not advertised online. Beverages were not included in our allowance. The restaurant lacked atmosphere and was so quiet that it was uncomfortable to converse. The breakfast was equally disappointing. The black pudding was extremely dry and hard, resembling a biscuit. The bacon felt pre-cooked and excessively fatty. The beans were served in a small metal ramekin containing only a spoonful. The cheese was dry and left out to air, resembling plastic especially the pre-sliced cheese. Premier Inn offers a superior breakfast at a significantly lower cost. We would still love to visit the hotel and spa. However, we would refrain from using the restaurant in the future. Sincerely, Scott Brown and Antonia Brown

A beautiful hotel with a gorgeous spa/thermal rooms. We stayed for 2 nights and spent most of our second day enjoying the gym and spa facilities. We do, however, consider that the management of the restaurant could be improved. During breakfast we had to ask for, and wait quite a long time for condiments. Used crockery and glasses were not routinely removed from our table. Restaurant staff need to be better trained in customer service to justify the 5* rating.

Generally a very pleasant experience.... The Spa facilities are very good, the room was very well appointed, the quality of the breakfast was excellent and the location was fantastic. I would state that it is at the high end of the budget but you do receive generally good service with some of the small touches added (dog hamper when bringing a pet) a real treat. I would stay here again and my partner enjoyed her birthday weekend.

The spa facilities are great! And mostly the service was good too. But the fact we pay so much and when we ask for water bottles for the room they charge £1 a bottle was crazy! Also the breakfast on a whole was great .....again they charged if you ordered 2 plates but I think this was to prevent wastage! The hotel itself partially seemed old. The room wasn't as clean as I'd expect. Also they had very different rooms and we got 2 rooms and got very different rooms. The area is perfect! Lots of places to eat. No night life. Everyone goes to sleep early.

Lovely hotel, restaurant, staff & spa. My only criticism is that the room was way too warm. The air-conditioning didn't make any significant difference so it was too hot to sleep properly.

Went for a spa break for the night. Stayed in the cheaper attic room which was small but fine. Air con and decent shower. The bed was a double so bare this in mind. I found it quite firm and uncomfortable but this is personal preference I realise. The spa was good. The outdoor pool was lovely and you can be in there as long and as often as you like. I found it odd you can't take drinks in. Maybe that's my issue again! Breakfast was the only point we interacted with staff. I wouldn't have been happy had I paid 25 each for it. Took 30 mins to get a coffee when we walked in. The breakfast itself was decent but small. 15 beans in a thimble. 1 egg and 1 sausage. Meh. Was good stuff tho but needed more. Location is fantastic. The building itself is too. Overall, not sure I'd go again. Nothing that other places don't do better. Parking seemed best on "the slopes" having dropped off.

Lovely hotel, comfy bed and nice room, however, we experienced a few issues during our stay. Hairs in the shower, unsafe shelf over the toilet, soap dispenser unclean, stained towel, uncomfortable flip flops for the spa. I asked if I could have some of the white slippers but was informed by spa staff that they didn’t have any. I have pins in my toes so the design of the flip flop with the toe piece caused me agony. I will bring my own footwear for the spa if I visit again. We were provided with complimentary prosecco at dinner for the inconvenience, which was appreciated. We ordered a starter and a main for dinner, although we were aware of the £55 allowance per person that was part of the package we booked. In fairness, the food was not bad. Steak was good quality, however, it only came with a tomato and mushroom, anything else was extra. I asked for peppermint tea at breakfast and was given what appeared to be English tea. When I raised this, the waitress said the person that made the tea had used specific tea and said it was some type of mint tea. I told her I drank peppermint tea everyday and I was sure it wasn’t peppermint. The waitress did then say she wasn’t convinced it was peppermint tea and found me a peppermint tea bag. I had to ask for another cup as the one I had was dirty. Another waitress changed it with no apology. The breakfast was good overall but I did feel like the service could be improved. On the whole the stay was pleasant and near to local amenities. The hotel just needs to pay more attention to cleanliness in rooms and customer service in the restaurant.

Lovely spa with loads of variety of steam rooms, saunas and swimming pools. Quiet room, helpful staff and nice breakfast. Just one gripe... pillows on the beds are awful.. so flat I found it difficult to sleep until I had five of them stacked up. Double beds are also a bit small. Ps. I heard the hotel has been taken over by a rival as of 5/12/2025.

My Main Vegetarian Meal was Poor Quality, I ordered Sweet Potato and Lentle Shepherds Pie, I was really looking forward to our evening meal in the 5* restaurant to end our Wonderful Spa Break. What a let down for a Quality Hotel. Photo of my meal below. To be fair My Daughter realy enjoyed her meal, the Lamb was Amazing.

The stay was fine, and if it had been advertised as a 4 star hotel I would have been content. However it was advertised as 5 - which it does not achieve and this left us disapointed with the stay. The room was okay, and we had a nice view over the park, but small aspects were missing or poorly considered. There were no pictures on the wall (this was a theme throughout the hotel that made it feel more like an average B&B), no hooks to hang up coats, there were two chairs but they were in seperate parts of the room so we had to lug them around to sit together. The dressing table mirror was a cheap plastic thing that looked like it'd been added as an afterthought. There were dead flies in the blinds when we rolled them down, the blinds didn't fit snugly so light poured through in the morning. The soap and shampoo dispensers in the shower and by the sink were dirty and caked with old soap. The staff were plesant and doing their best, but again, it was not a 5 star service. No one offered to help with our bags - which I would expect for 5 star. Drinks were left on tables in the bar as there was only one person on serving for the restaurant and bar. We ordered an IPA and got it in the wrong type of glass - you wouldn't serve red wine in a flute, the principal is the same for beer. Pages were missing from one of the menus. The food was fine, and nicely presented. The spa was plesant - as long as you're fully mobile as there are lots of stairs. The location in Buxton is lovely and the building is impressive, however if you're after a 5 star service then this is not the right choice.

The facilities were on the whole good and staff were friendly. However, some staff were inexperienced or lacked the training necessary to deliver the level of guest experience expected. In particular, staff did not always pay enough attention and so did not notice when guests needed assistance. Food in the Spa was average at best and took a very long time to be delivered. Glass wear in the restaurant was thick and not of the fine quality necessary to fully enjoy the wine on offer. The TV in the room was not straightforward to operate. There was no shower cap available in the room despite the provision of a rainfall shower, which made this item an obviously foreseeable requirement. Overall, there was not the attention to detail expected given the overall cost and this affected our perception of value for money.

L
Laura Arland

The hotel building is absolutely gorgeous, and the rooms are beautifully designed and well-equipped, including both a shower and a bathtub. Access to the spa is available for an additional fee — it's a nice facility, but it closes at 8 PM. So, if you arrive late or have evening plans, it’s hardly worth paying for. Breakfast was a major disappointment. Although it officially starts at 7 AM, food isn’t fully uncovered and service doesn’t really begin until much later. I had only 30 minutes, and not only did I miss a proper meal, but I couldn’t even get a cup of coffee — the staff explained the coffee machine takes half an hour to heat up. This really needs improvement.

I found that whilst this hotel has the most impressive appearance from the outside, there were several elements of the stay that were quite disappointing and not expected from a 5* hotel. 1) we arrived 1 hour before check in. In your email/website it says if you arrive early, we can spend some time using the hotel facilities. Whilst I appreciate the spa was not an option, we were told very flippantly we cannot use the facilities. We dropped our bags and left. We weren’t even advised to spend some time in the hotel bar etc which I’d have expected. This would have been an easy sell to us after a long journey! 2) there was a bank holiday event going on in the town and this made access to the hotel extremely difficult and confusing. The hotel did not clearly signpost to its guests what to do and where to park. It seemed entirely disorganised. 3) the rooms were lovely. However our bathroom door did not close (room 111) which is very awkward! The room lacked any mirrors in the entrance way and although this is not a big issue at all, it was one of many elements that demonstrated the guest experience does not feel well thought out. I would not mention this but it was part of a general theme of our stay. 4) the spa was extremely crowded. This entirely defeats the purpose of a relaxing trip for a very high price. There was thick green mould in the indoor roof top pool by the windows. 5) the restaurant was so disappointing. Odd choice of music playing, void of any atmosphere. Hardly any staff for a large restaurant. Food was so bland and really overpriced for what was offered. Breakfast time we were greeted by staff without a smile or ‘good morning’. 6) hotel guests do not have access to a locker in the spa which is so inconvenient. This makes no sense to me at all and again shows that the management have not fully considered the guest experience from start to finish. I know these may all seem minor issues but for a hotel of this grandeur / price, there were disappointments at every turn, just not quite the ‘5 star’ experience I would have expected for this price. Overall, this hotel was disappointing and definitely not worth the premium price. More attention to detail and improved customer service is essential when selling an experience like this. There is so much untapped potential in this hotel but as it stands, I would not be recommending this to others.

I absolutely love this hotel it has the best spa facilities and is a truly fabulous place. However we recently went for my 40th birthday having been a number of times before. Prior to arrival we noted it had received 5 star status and this had significantly increased the price of a room making it a lot more expensive. We had hoped though that this would mean that it would be an even better experience than we had had previously. Unfortunately we were disappointed that it appeared to have gone downhill. One of our party had an issue with their fridge in the room and another with a smell in the bathroom. The bathrobes were tatty with holes and rips which although a small thing takes away from luxury 5 star experience. The little touches we had had previously were not there and it didn’t feel like the excellent service and hospitality we had previously received was there either. Breakfast was a big disappointment. It took ages to get our hot food order taken, I think they had forgotten us and we had to ask for someone to come to take it. The food when it came was not as good as previously with a tiny amount of hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict and royale and muffins were not toasted and were therefore soggy. We asked for extra sauce but when this finally came it was a tiny pot for 2 people and we had pretty much already finished our meal. All in all we still had a nice time and I can not fault the spa facilities but due to the increase in price and the reduction in quality and service we will be looking elsewhere for a luxury break next time.

I booked a table online for a post Christmas special lunch with family in the restaurant via the website. On arrival at reception we were told they only serve afternoon tea but had a menu in the bar if required. Nothing on my email confirmation booking said afternoon tea only to alert my attention. When I re checked their website I discovered further down the information page it does clarify afternoon tea only at lunchtime so it was my mistake. I am surprised though, that a 5 star hotel in a holiday town of Buxton does not have their restaurant open. Disappointed we left and had lunch elsewhere. I am sharing to make others aware.

Great location, booked 3 rooms 1 room no working air con or fridge 1 room mouldy shower 1 room the bathroom smelt of sewage and made the guest sick whenever they went to the toilet/brushed teeth. Breakfast was slow, service was slow, food was cold when served. At £340 for an attic room I was highly disappointed, what was once a great hotel has let the standards slip and hugely increased the price with a very rude receptionist when we tried to sort it out.

My husband and I booked the spa day. Unfortunately we had to leave at midday due to a family member suddenly taking a turn for the worse and we wanted to see her before she passed. I have asked if we could come back another afternoon and received no response. Not great empathy or customer experience

This was the last nights stay from a holiday over a number of days. We saved this one as last as we had high hopes for this hotel. We were let down on every front. Our room had a number of issues, fire alarm going off on the evening of our arrival due to a faulty hairdryer - it did not sound in our room and as such we were unaware till 'Franchesca' knocked on our door panicking; I am sure that there will be a record of this event in your Health and Safety records. This was compounded by the fact that in the morning it went off again, loudly, we enquired at reception, and were told 'we should have read the notice in the reception on arrival!' REALLY, would it have been difficult to advise us when we checked in?? Our room had a pungent smell in the bathroom which at times became unbearable. We advised the receptionist and were told that it was 'unusual' and she would let housekeeping/maintenance know. No apology or explanation was afforded to us. Indeed, we discovered later that day that the hotel had been closed down due to drainage issues only very recently, so we were deliberately mis lead by this member of staff! Breakfast was poor at best, the muffin on our Eggs Benedict was dry and over toasted and inedible. Coffee was weak and tasteless. The spa was very nice and the only real reason we booked this hotel, however, it still did not represent good value for money. In short, this was a very poor show for a hotel of this caliber and what made it worse was the reception staff who were either rude or indifferent, with the exception of Francesca, who was pleasant and efficient. The one with the dark straight hair in a 'pony tail' was just out and out rude! POOR SHOW FOR A 5* HOTEL
