had an absolutely wonderful experience at Sekkoya in Canterbury. The service was incredibly warm and attentive from the moment I walked in. The food genuinely surprised me — every dish was full of flavour, beautifully prepared, and simply delicious. Even the tea tasted different than anywhere else, with such a unique and refined flavour. The place itself is truly charming. It’s spotless, beautifully designed, and the interior creates a calm, elegant atmosphere that makes the whole visit feel special. You can really see how much attention and care went into the décor and overall presentation. I highly recommend Sekkoya to anyone looking for exceptional food, outstanding service, and a beautifully crafted space. A real gem in Canterbury.
Very enjoyable experience, nice setting and brilliant service. Saeed our server was excellent, and gave exceptional service. The Christmas drinks menu was also really enjoyable.
Visited Canterbury for a night and went here on a recommendation from a couple we met. Staff was lovely, ambiance was very relaxing and chic and the food was top notch (veg samosa, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, naans and rice). Would definitely recco to anyone really a cute spot for a date!
Came here on Sunday small plates were amazing, our server Justin was very friendly and give great recommendations. Thankyou for a lovely evening will definitely be back ❤️
Absolutely delicious!! We had some Samosa Chaat, and I got a butter chicken. The place is gorgeous as well! I would highly recommend
The food was amazing especially the ambience of the restaurant was top notch and the service was awesome. Wish I could eat more. Just ended up with starters. Lovely day for me at this place. 👌
The best chicken biryani I have ever tasted. The lamb curry was delicious as well. The mango lassi was out of this world, delicious pistachio nuts nestled on top. The icing on the cake was the service, Saeed, Who served us. He Had a lovely personality that Shone through. He was very attentive, help ed us choose our menu. He even brought the dog a bowl of water. and I promise if we come back to Canterbury, we are definitely coming back to this little Gem!! thank you so much to the staff for making it so lovely and in a lovely spot outside with the lovely warm weather 😊
Went here for the first time on Saturday evening and had a delicious selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. The service was brilliant - friendly and fast - and the flavours were stunning. Looking forward to going back.
Excellent date night experience. My Wife and I went and enjoyed ourselves here. The atmosphere and the decor is lovely and the food is amazing. We especially liked the cocktails (probably the best cocktails I’ve had this year and in my top 5 ever - very tasty and unique). Delicious bread options, Samosa chaat, potatoes but my favorite was the daal (very genuine tasting Indian food) this was the best thing I had all night. Will be back for more of this and the to taste the curries! Service was very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu. Thanks!
The best Indian food in Canterbury. I recently had the pleasure of dining at this incredible Indian restaurant, and it was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment we walked in, the warm hospitality and cozy ambiance set the perfect tone for the evening. The food was absolutely phenomenal — every dish was bursting with authentic flavor and perfectly balanced spices. We tried the Meat Thali with butter chicken, lamb curry, butter naan, and many more side dishes — each one better than the last. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the portions were generous. Service was prompt, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. Our server took time to explain the dishes and even recommended a few we wouldn’t have thought to try — and they ended up being our favorites like the Thumbs Up cola. If you’re looking for a place that delivers both traditional Indian flavors and a welcoming atmosphere, this is it. I can’t wait to return and try more from the menu. Highly recommend!
Best Indian food I have had for a very long time. Very nice atmosphere and service and also good value for money. Highly recommend this restaurant. Shame I don't live near Canterbury as this would be my go to for authentic Indian food.
Beautiful food, staff were amazing and attentive, lovely atmosphere and wonderful cocktails! Our server Justin absolutely made our visit and was so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, can highly recommend.
we had a great experience and amazing food at Sekkoya this evening. It was a little quieter as it was a Sunday however the service was excellent! The gentleman in the suit was a lovely and gave us some recommendations for the food. It was my birthday this evening and I had a brownie and sparkler brought to me which was a lovely touch! We will definitely be back! Thanks from Lillie and Jack!
I recently dined here with a group of four and was thoroughly impressed. The menu offered a fine balance of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, catering to a variety of tastes. The small plates were generously portioned and I found that ordering just two or three was enough to make a satisfying main meal. I would recommend this approach for indecisive diners, as it will help to keep FOMO at bay! I particularly enjoyed the Chicken 65 and Samosa Chaat, both bursting with flavour. The Masala Fries were flavoursome but had a slightly soggy/chewy texture, so they could have been crispier. If you're a fan of hot and cold dessert combos like me, then you should definitely try the Gulaab Jamun with a scoop of ice cream and crushed pistachios. To top off the meal, the Masala Chai - served in a glass tumbler was divine and the accompanying Parle G biscuits - a nostalgic and delightful touch. The music and decor created a slick and vibey atmosphere to dine. The staff, including Justin and the rest of his colleagues who served us that evening were incredibly warm and welcoming, adding to a positive experience at Sekkoya. All in all, a fantastic dining experience and I’ll definitely recommend it.
Absolutely amazing food, I came from London to visit my cousin and he told us about the food here. Wow I wish this restaurant was in London too. For our main we had butter chicken and it was delicious, so much flavour and creamy. The rice was so fluffy and tasted amazing. The restaurant is beautiful I would definitely recommend visiting.
Such a warm welcome by staff. The venue is clean and luxurious. The Staff were very friendly and had good knowledge of the menu. Wide range of Cocktails and all were made fresh. Food was very tasteful and clean. Defiantly worth every penny. Service was great and staff checked on us every now and then which was very pleasant. Towards the evening the restaurant slowly starts to turn into a night life bar atmosphere as the DJ starts to get involved which was a great experience. I highly recommend visiting Sekkoya. I will be back!
My wife and I recently visited this restaurant for dinner, eager to experience its new, more central location. She had been keen to take me there, and it did not disappoint. We ordered Chicken 65, dahi samosa, butter chicken, garlic naan, and mango lassi—each dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a warm, inviting ambiance with a seating arrangement that comfortably accommodates various group sizes, whether for an intimate dinner for two or a lively gathering with friends. The staff was very courteous, adding to the overall experience. The general manager, in particular, took the time to chat with us, ensuring that we had a pleasant evening. We highly recommend this place and will happily return for another visit!
I had an absolutely fantastic dining experience at this pan Asian restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome and attentive service. I want to express my sincere gratitude to our waiter, Dee from India, who went above and beyond to ensure our meal was exceptional. The portion sizes were generous, and the quality of the food was outstanding. I couldn't have asked for a more perfectly cooked steak, and the cheesecake was a delightful way to end our meal. The management of the restaurant was top-notch, and the interior decor created a lovely ambiance. It was evident that they paid attention to every detail to make the dining experience memorable. Parking was a breeze, and even though we traveled from London to visit this restaurant, it was well worth the journey. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to indulge in delicious pan Asian cuisine served with outstanding service. Dee and the entire staff made our visit truly memorable, and we can't wait to return. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!
Great food, we had butter chicken and chicken malai - both were good! Service was so slow though.
We ordered the butter bread, tandoori chicken and Shaku's butter chicken. All of them are small portions but simply a burst of flavours, each of them taste very delicious. Friendly staff, they point out allergy warnings perfectly and come and ask often if everything is like you wish. Only the Airconditioning and music is on a level for a full restaurant and at the time we there it was just half filled. Nice place to come back.
A glamorous, super friendly restaurant located in the trendy Canterbury Riverside is the perfect place to enjoy gourmet pan Asian cuisine. I went there with a friend during Easter holiday and we were well looked after by their super attentive team headed by their manager Dee, who made our dining experience a pleasant & memorable one. They genuinely make sure you are happy, make friendly little chat & throw a quick humour here & there but still respect your privacy with your party. Such a service is unfortunately rare to find in Canterbury. And talking about the food, OMG, it’s beautifully executed both in their style and flavour. And the best thing is, with their happy hours drinks offer & midweek early dining experience, our tummies were fully satisfied without breaking our wallet. Will I go there again? I am planning my next visit already 😊
I had a starter, a salad, a main, a dessert - rice pudding and a drink with a jug of tap water. Great menu selection, lots of gluten free. Delicious. Chill atmosphere, light music very chill and relaxing, attentive service, good prices. Was not too noisy and good spacing between tables. I found the cocktail nice, yet a little sweet for my liking.
Comfy place with authentic Indian food that threw me back to some cosy home feels. Lovely service (Saeed), good portions, and a chill place to be. Just wish the food was a tiny bit hotter but the spice combination's still leagues better than anything else around! Ordering in next time :D
This was a very delightful experience! My partner (Pakistani) and I moved in to Canterbury from London and have been on a hunt for good curries. We were super happy that we finally found Sekkoya as their food hit the spot! Beautiful atmosphere, dim lighting that I love, very friendly and kind staff, and tasty food, what else do you need really? Definitely coming back to try more of their small plate dishes. We had samosa chaat, gobi manchurian, butter chicken and lamb curry. All of it was deliciously flavourful. 10 yums/10 P.S. Saeed went above and beyond! Thank you.
The food and thr atmosphere was good and truly indian flavours .highly recommend this place
Really nice place. Great ambience and service. Reasonably priced. They add 10% onto all bills by default which I'm not a fan of (would rather it be added to prices but just my preference) Food delicious and very friendly staff
The most delicious meal and the service was incredible! Kim was such a lovely waitress <3 Would definitely recommend! Made us feel so welcome
Sekkoya is a true gem in Canterbury. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with a relaxing and beautiful ambiance. It was the perfect setting for a delicious meal. But what truly made it special was our Rimple. She was incredibly kind, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our dinner. The food was fantastic, and Rimple's wonderful service made the whole experience even better. Besides, I tried the laughing leopard alcohol-free drink. It was really delicious. Highly recommend!
Been waiting to visit Sekoya for ages, I took my mum with me to try them out. We went and tried the lunch time menu. This place didn't disappoint. The moment you walk in its a really nice vibe, the staff are really friendly too. The food we tried: Amritsari fish Kachumber Salad Chicken Dum Biryani The food is flavoursome. I will definitely return to try the evening menu. The decor is really cool too 5 stars to whomever put this place together. I liked the drinks menu too, a journey through India, visiting different regions of India with drinks inspired by locations. I also loved the the animals hidden in plain sight. Thank you Sekkoya for a pleasurable dinning experience.
The food was exceptional, with the mango lassi standing out as a particular highlight. The service was equally impressive. Justin, who looked after our table, was attentive, patient, and ensured everything was just right throughout our visit. A truly enjoyable dining experience.
It was our first time visiting Sekkoya. We hadn’t booked but they managed to fit us in (just… it’s very popular so it’s def worth booking). The food was absolutely amazing, the staff were polite and helpful and the whole experience was second to none. We will definitely be visiting again.
We visiting last Saturday and despite being so disorganised and failing to book the friendly general manager fitted us in. What a wonderful addition to Canterbury this restaurant is. The service was excellent and the food was of a very high standard. Despite being very busy we were served quickly and enjoyed a wonderful pre-theatre supper. Really looking forward to our next visit. Thanks again!
Delicious food and friendly, attentive service! I particularly like the peshwari naan which had pistachio and cardamom, which I’ve never had anywhere else. Good masala chai too, not overly sweet, and served with Parle G biscuits so you know this place is the real deal!
We were both very pleasantly surprised to find a very high quality Indian restaurant here in Canterbury. Not only do they serve exceptional food full of flavour and with a beautiful aroma evoking my own experience of Indian cuisine in India but the service is amazing! Definitely recommend this place for any hungry visitor to Canterbury!
We had a lovely time catching up over dinner at Sekkyoa. The staff were friendly and attentive - especially Justin! The food was lovely and service was quick - we are excited to try their bottomless brunch!
From the moment we entered, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting, perfect for a night out or a special occasion. The authentic flavours in every dish were outstanding. They were beautifully spiced, aromatic and tasted yum. It’s clear that traditional recipes and genuine care go into the cooking here, resulting in a dining experience that truly stands out. The staff were exceptional, and a special mention to Mr. Diwakar Dube, who was warm, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome, adding to the overall charm and comfort of our visit. The service was prompt yet unobtrusive, and every detail felt thoughtfully arranged. Highly recommended and it’s a place I’ll eagerly return to.
A great food experience full of flavour. Would recommend the Chicken Tikka & fish masala. The black daal and broccoli side dishes were also excellent. The dining room is quite dramatic with some very intetesting interior design.
Visited Sekkoya with the family for the first time for lunch and it was a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was warm and elegant, with soft lighting that made the space feel inviting. Our server Saeed & Kim was friendly, attentive, and gave great recommendations. The Manager Dee even went to our table and was on his duty to do his excellent customer service and was also serving some of our orders too. The menu is also very well explained what you can get from your food.Prices were reasonable for the quality. I highly recommend Sekkoya for anyone looking for a cozy, delicious Indian dining experience. We are from London and coming to Canterbury and had food from Sekkoya was the Cherry on top of our day. We will definitely come back to try more food from their menu. All the Staff in Sekkoya are very friendly and always had a smile on their faces even the day is busy for them. I do not really do reviews but Sekkoya deserve to one from me.
You have to try! I came here with my wife. It was my birthday and I’m very happy I spent it here. So first things first the architecture of the building is really nice. It’s got a really good wooden framework really good paintings it really sparks out modern India which I thought it was very very nice given how old Canterbury city; it has a good paradoxical theme to the environment. We were greeted by the general manager at the moment we walked in. Yes we had to wait about five minutes or so, but we were greeted nonetheless. Drinks were served in a very timely manner and the starters were really good. It was so good we ordered twice. We had a A nice main meal which was a nice lamb biryani and then a paneer curry, which both of them were extremely extremely nice. The Iranian waiter was very good and he also made really really good cocktails for us as well would definitely recommend it. Restaurant was great. Quality was great. We will definitely come with our family and a larger group so that more people can enjoy their food. Great food great architecture definitely would come again.
Stepped into a beautiful atmosphere at this hidden gem of a restaurant. The food was cooked and presented at a high quality and we felt relaxed and unrushed as we enjoyed the experience of dining here. So comfortable and warm, a wonderful surprise. Thank you to Saeed for your service and warm welcome!
Popped in for quick take away. Wow what an amazing service and friendly staff. Also the food is so tasty. Plenty of food and reasonable price. Highly recommended for anyone looking for Indian. 🇮🇳
It was a good ambience but a bit crowded as I decided to go on valentine’s day. Even if it’s a bit on the expensive side, food did really taste good. Quantity was a bit little for the money, but taste was not sacrificed. Overall a good experience.
We had an excellent evening at Sekkoya on Boxing Day. The restaurant is very stylishly decorated with huge wooden light fittings, comfortable chairs and ample space on the tables. The wooden wall art also helps the acoustics which meant we could hear clearly even as the restaurant became busier. Seasonal cocktails were well balanced and very moreish! The food was excellent - perfectly balanced spices, succulent Butter Chicken and light, fluffy pilau rice. The Railway Lamb Curry was particularly good, the sauce rich and with great depth of flavour. Good to see meat cooked on the bone! Gulab jamun and kheer we're both of a good standard. Service was charming, courteous and mostly efficient (thank you, Justin). A few dishes came our way which we hadn't order but these errors were swiftly rectified and I'm sure these minor hiccoughs were only teething troubles in their new location. Well done to the team and we look forward to visiting again when we're next in Canterbury.
Well, I had high hopes from Sekkoya. I had ordered there food a couple of times on Delivroo and was expecting something quite nice when I went in to dine. The reason why I have given 3/5 to overall experience is because the food was just average. This is something I noticed while I ordered at home as well i.e. the taste and the quality changes every time. Hygiene standards are maintained but the taste of the food is varied which is just not done. We had panipori as startes and the. Jumped on to chicken 65 and main course - chicken dum biryani, Dal makhani and garlic bread. It was roller coaster of a taste explosion 💥 i.e. sometimes the food was just flavourful but bland a few dishes were just spices but no flavours. This inconsistent food experience was quite demotivating and made us not to order more. I would not recommend Sekkoya as your first go to place but if you want a change maybe then you might try it as you might fall on the good cooking day of the chef.
We waited 20 minutes to be served drinks and a further 15 minutes for anyone to take our order, despite diners arriving after us being served (and food delivered) while we were waiting. The Lamb Biryani was nice, but despite being told that the food would arrive when it was ready, the Butter Chicken was slightly cold. The garlic naan tasted mostly of burnt garlic and wasn't as light/fluffy as I expect naan to be. The black daal was quite nice. The restaurant itself is a lovely place, with comfortable chairs and a nice environment. I wouldn't rush back, but, assuming the service issues were a one off issue of a Thursday evening being busier than expected and them being under-staffed (the dining room was less than half full), I might be tempted back by the small plates.
Awesome venue! I was really impressed with the sophisticated contemporary design. Most people were drinking, rather than eating which was a surprise. The music was a bit clubby. I feel it should be more mellow for the ambiance when eating dinner. The service was a bit poor. The waitress kept forgetting when I’d ordered and I had to remind her on each occasion. Overall, the place has a lot of potential but I think it’s still trying to establish its offering.
It's nicely decorated and staff ok though waiting at the far end for 5 minutes with not even anyone coming to acknowledge us to say there would be a wait is not great (we had booked and it was half full) Took ages to get order once seated (15 mins) with no.drink etc...by the time we were attended to we just ordered drinks and food all together. Food ok though the poppadoms are weird...way too bubbly..more like giant prawn crackers Probably would not go again
This is a review of the Sukkoya’s restaurant in St Peter’s Street, Canterbury. Beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere let down by the very poor service for which I blame the manager who was in charge on Saturday night. The staff were lovely, they were keen to please but they have not been trained properly and no one seemed to be in charge. We were a large table of 8. I had pre-ordered our food and paid a deposit of £100. We were originally going to be a table of 10. Two people had to cancel on the day and they went into the restaurant, explained, apologised and cancelled their food order. I had ordered 10 small plates for the table to share as starters. Only 5 were served and we had to wait ages for them. The best part of a hour. They were brought out one at a time with long gaps in between. It was painful. Before they had brought out all the starters they tried to serve the mains. We said no. I think the mains were left to stand on the side because they were only warm when we finally got them. The also tried to serve the mains again but before clearing all the dirty dishes. They then tried to serve two of the mains that had been cancelled earlier in the day (the same mains appeared on our bill as did a starter that we did not have). It should have been clear to the manager that our table needed a little more attention and that things were not running smoothly. At least one member of staff should have had responsibility for our table. The manager did his best to stay out of the way rather take charge. We had another issue with the food that was totally my fault and the restaurant did really well to rectify it. There were two mains that I forgot to order and they sorted it out quickly. The food was OK. Nice enough but nothing special. To be honest it took so long for the food to be served that I wasn’t really hungry when I got it as I had filled up on wine.
Walked in and ordered a takeaway (first time visit) Food was ok, nothing special, the most annoying thing was to find on the receipt when I got home we had been charged a “Discretionary Service” charge. I am all for paying service charges when eating out and service is good, but feel that the waitress should have either removed it automatically as there was no service, unless handing over a paper takeaway bag warrants one. Certainly should have ask me before I presented my card. Very poor show! Would not go back out of principle
We went for Valentine’s Day dinner and unfortunately it was very different from what we were expecting. I had visited the restaurant just two weeks earlier with friends and the food was amazing, which is why we were so excited to return for Valentine’s Day. Sadly, the service felt extremely rushed. Before we had even ordered drinks, the first course was already being brought over, and the entire five-course meal was completed in around 45 minutes. It didn’t feel like a relaxed or special Valentine’s experience at all. Unfortunately, the main course was the biggest issue for us. We ordered the coconut prawn curry, which was overwhelmingly salty and genuinely unpleasant to eat. On top of that, the wrong desserts were brought to our table and had to be sent back. Unfortunately, we won’t be coming back.
