Our server was extremely friendly and did such a thorough job explaining to us the specials of the day! The truffle chicken pasta was creamy, and was topped off with plenty of freshly shaved Parmesan cheese. I would’ve liked it to be a touch more salted, but that was my personal preference. My sister had ordered the special veal of the day, and she agreed that hers could’ve been pre salted. But overall we had a great experience and would love to return once we’re in the area.
Not sure if this is a love letter but this may be my favorite restaurant of all time. It’s definitely my favorite place in Cape May. We’ve been coming here for years and make it a point to have at least one meal here each time. I’ve never ever had a bad meal here. The bread is baked fresh and served hot! Not warm but right out of the oven hot. I usually get the mussels as an app. They are spicy but tender and served with more bread to soak up the fabulous sauce. Last night we also had the fried Mozzarella balls. The mains were Baked Cavatappi and Italian Sausage, Garganelli & Pinot and the nightly special of linguine and clams. All three were amazing. The Garganelli & Pinot is hands down the best. I’ve gotten this the last 5-6 times I’ve eaten there and had a hard time not getting it. My wife had that and it was perfect as always and I got a few forkfuls to satisfy my craving. Tonight I went for a change and got the linguine. It was a decision I would not regret. The pasta literally melted in my mouth. You know when you expect to get 5-6 clams and a scattering of crab - this was NOT that. It was loaded with crab meat and little necks. I did sample the Cavatappi and it was great. A much sweeter red sauce then the mussels or the fried mozzarella, but paired perfectly with the sausage. The S’mores cake was good but probably not on par with the peanut butter bomb from last year. Please bring that back. Looking forward to keeping the tradition alive and coming back next year!
This place was awesome. My service was great as well! Had to try the brick oven pizza and was not disappointed. Got to try an eggplant dish which was probably the best eggplant I’ve ever tasted. It was fried perfectly. The pork chop came with these pillow like gnocchi that ruled. Lastly we got dessert which was a cheesecake and a peanut butter ball… very rich and delicious
Absolutely wonderful experience here. The patio is a perfect place to enjoy a beautiful night with amazing food. The Vongole pizza was definitely a highlight of the evening, as was that octopus. However, everything was fantastic. Love the complimentary focaccia and dipping oil, too.
Food was delicious and care was taken in how it was presented. The atmosphere was fun everyone was having a good time. Our server Kaya was thoughtful and friendly. The owner/ manager saw us on our way out and kindly asked how we enjoyed ourselves. Great restaurant!
The service, staff and the food are always exceptional at Panico's! Menu options are unique and the selections numerous to chose from.... something for everyone. I wish I lived closer to enjoy more often but it is always on my list to visit whenever in Cape May. Not to miss... and a BYOB! Doesn't get any better than that! 🤩
Service 5/5 stars we had Jeanette and Maureen Octopus- Rating 5/5 chargrilled then sautéed, simple olive oil, parsley, lemon Pork Shank Osso Bucco - Rating 5/5 oven roasted, marinara, rosemary, carrots, celery, tomato, parpadelle. I am not a big pork eater this was to die for. Salad - Rating 3/5 It was missing something. Desserts - I’m not big on desserts but I came for my Moms birthday it was very good. I feel like I can’t properly rate. My Mom loved them.
Panico's Bistro in West Cape May is an excellent place for dinner or even a small party. The food is fresh and is full of flavor. The wood fire pizza is a must try. Tonight we tried a special pizza with arugula and pancetta along with sauce and fresh mozzarella. The flavor was excellent the pancetta and arugula combination is so good together. We also had a margherita pizza and plain all very good. Now for dinner we had halibut with a sherry cream sauce over basil rice. The halibut was cooked to perfection glistening in the middle and the cream sherry sauce was the perfect compliment. The pork shank was so moist the meat fell off the bone, done the true Italian way. We also had the eggplant done thinly sliced baked to perfection with a sweet balsamic red sauce so yummy!!. The 5 cheese chicken was cheese and had a lit of sauce. Our waitress Kylie was the best she had suggested a dish they made special for my neice which was a chicken alfredo sauce she had fettuccine but they would have gave her any kind of pasta. Its BYOB so don't forget to bring your wine or beer. Now we didn't have any dessert due to it was my sister's birthday and we had a cake at home however I have had the dessert in the past and if you go just be sure to leave room for dessert and coffee there just as wonderful as the food. The service was great, we had a large party of 9 and Kylie couldn't have served us any better anything anyone needed she was right on it. They also have a team of servers ti bring food out and they also keep your tableclean at all times. Its such a nice place. It was an old church so the windows are long like church windows which makes it beautiful to look out while dining at night or e en at sunset. It does however get a little echo when it is full due to high ceiling but overall just a real nice atmospher to have dinner. If your visiting or live in Cape May County be sure to check out Panicos in West Cape May you won't be disappointed.
Both the food and service was stellar at this place. Not overpriced and very friendly service. Also conveniently made a reservation using OpenTable (few places in Cape May accept reservations, so this was an added plus!).
Best itaiian I've had in Cape May, wow this place was delicious! The pork chop with ricotta gnocchi was out of this world and I am still dreaming about it. Very cool atmosphere aided by the airy church setting that you dine in. Our waiter was very good, knew the dishes, was funny and offered timely service. The whole experience notched the visit up to be one of the better dining experiences I've had in Cape May over 3 years of summer vacations. Would happily return! Update: 4+ years later with kids in tow this place remains the #1 spot in Cape May. The pork chop and ricotta stuffed gnocchi are out of the fricking world - still! Rarely do you return tk a spot with a favorite dish in mind and it lives up to the memory, but it did. Kids menu as well, the servers were awesome.
Make a reservation ahead of time . We did and were glad we did this time. The crowds descend on this old church building turned quintessential Italian bistro like a WNBA game in Indiana .The menuis great , the garlic in the air is wafting throughout upon arrival. The brick oven fire and overall atmosphere scream “family dinner”. Share everything ! You will want to taste it all, I promise. Appetizers are a good size , so an appetizer and salad would be a filling meal for sure . The complimentary bread is hands down the best I have ever had , anywhere at anytime- never change this ,pretty please. Likely some iteration of their light crispy pizza dough it arrived oven fresh with a well seasoned EVOO . You will be tempted to just eat the bread that’s how good it is . It is BYOB so keep that in mind . We were seated right away just after the 5 pm opening as we had made a 5:15 reservation . We were greeted immediately by a gracious well trained hostess. The entire restaurant was full with a wait by 6 PM, a testament to the summer crowd or just the overall experience at Panico’s, likely the latter , as it’s probably busy year-round. Our server Riley introduced herself and recited the specials by memory, and kindly offered corking service for our wines . Top notch Professional service was evident right from the start. Any menu questions were answered right away without hesitation, the hallmark of a well trained seasoned server and great training . We ordered The Gnocchi appetizer, fried calamari, and Mozzerella Fritto for the table . Of course we were devouring the heavenly pillows of brick oven bread too! It was the Gnocchi for the win but all were delicious . Calamari was tender and fresh, mozzerella crispy and melted perfectly. For Dinner we ordered Chicken Parmigiana , Cavatappi , And 4 pizzas. The pizzas are available in 10” or 14 “ and they are all equally amazing. Fresh ingredients all around and that crust! South Jersey giving New Haven Connecticut pizza a run for their money here! Well certainly NY city pizza for sure. We selected the Marinara , marinara with pepperoni, the Pizza Bianco and the Margarita pie in various sizes to make sure we had leftovers. Every dish we had was amazing and as described. Service was impeccable and efficient. Dinner for six well under $300 . We cant wait to go back again . Thank God they are not closer to home because I might gain quite a few pounds if they were. Kudos Panicos! The world needs more Panicos Bistros.
This place is a gem. Our experience was a delight from start to finish. It started off with a phone call. The young lady was super helpful and patient. She informed us that they were accepting walk-ins as there wasn't a wait at the moment but perhaps a little later there would be. Sure enough, we had a 10-15 minute wait upon arrival but it only seemed to get busier as the night went on. They have a cool patio set up out front to wait while you are seated. If you BYOB, they will pop your cork at check-in and set you up with glasses to enjoy outside while you wait. Our server was super friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive. We were having trouble deciding on our meals and she was not once fazed, instead she was very patient and helpful. We actually changed our order after we had initially placed it and she took care of it without a hitch. The food was absolutely delicious. Definitely our best meal in Cape May. We had the Chicken Trofie, Crispy Spicy Salmon and Margherita Pizza. My mouth is watering just typing it out. Everything was wonderful. Definitely a must visit. Reservations are strongly recommended as this place was bustling and for good reason. Bring a bottle of your favorite drink as well. I didn't even get to mention the wonderful job they did converting an old church into a gem of a restaurant. 👍👍👍👍👍
Tried Panico’s for the first time while visiting Cape May for our first wedding anniversary. Wow! I wish we found this place sooner. We were lucky enough to make a same-day reservation online and got seated right on time. The food was excellent as was the service from our waitress, Maureen. We topped the night off with coffee/espresso and a pizza to go. Can’t wait to come back!
For apps we had a salad from the specials list and the lemon clams. Both were fantastic. I would drink that sauce from the clam dish. My fiance DID drink the sauce like a soup. My fiance had a crab special pasta which was good. I had the char grilled pork chop with the gnocchi and it was absolutely phenomenal. Could not recommend it enough. Dwayne was our waiter and he is the man. One thing I’d say is to sit downstairs or outside. The main floor is a little loud and echoey. But everything was great. Dessert and espresso drinks were also fantastic. Easily deserving of 5 stars. Plus it’s a BYOB. Highly recommend.
Had dinner tonight, dinner was excellent. Our server was excellent, I believe her name was Samantha. Gnocchi appetizer was spot on. My wife had the Snapper which she enjoyed. I had their pizza which was very good. Desert we took home, have not had yet.
My first time here and we loved it 😄 Read some of the reviews. Mostly good. Some bad... but took a chance and was pleasantly surprised! Have been coming to Cape May every year for over 20 years and this is our first time trying this place. We will definitely be back ‼️
Unfortunately among the worst service we have received for the amount payed. The ambiance is fantastic, the hostesses are so sweet. The bread was delicious and my dinner was great. My husbands dinner (the Pinot pasta?) was incredibly mediocre. However our server only checked on us once. My water was empty. Didn't check on us after we got our meal and forgot our sodas. We will not be returning. I won't name the server in case she was having a bad day.
I’ve been going to Panicos for years but last week was not good at all. The penne pasta tasted like it was reheated a million times so it was like eating paste. The sauce was so acidic I felt sick after the meal. The chicken parm burnt to death and my parents had veal that tasted like pork, also burned! We had a late reservation and the servers couldn’t wait for us to leave. I’ve been bragging to people about this place for years….thumbs down Panicos! I sent them an email and have not received a reply. Needless to say it was my husband’s birthday and not a cheap dinner.
The food was not good unfortunately, the pasta I had the sauce tasted sour like it was old, the pizza was bland and the sauce on the pizza very acidic. The dessert they brought out was absolutely old. I took a bite of the since and it tasted like sour old milk. The dessert was def old. The only good thing was our server and the bread and dipping oil. Would not recommend
We went for Valentines night 4ppl ordered 3 apps salad was bad octopus was ok but our rice balls were frozen inside that was disgusting they must buy them frozen.. Meals were terrible my chicken parm and Gnocchi was the worse I ever had I had 1 bite and couldn't eat any more the Sunday dinner was also disgusting was thrown all out as an Italian this place doesn't care about quality especially on Valentines day . We would rate it a zero on food....our 2nd time there and will never return
