The food and service here were outstanding. There is a tasting menu option, but we opted for a la carte based on our time available. The sea bass is worth the hype, it was the best dish we tried and worth the trip there. The interior must have been redone and it looks much nicer now than some of the older images.

Had a wonderful experience dining here the food absolutely lived up to its reputation as part of the Michelin selected restaurant list. The appetizers and main course were both superb, full of rich, layered flavours that really impressed. The dessert we ordered, however, didn’t quite match the standard of the rest of the meal it was good, but not as memorable. The staff were genuinely warm and attentive, and the ambience inside is elegant and inviting perfect for a fine dining experience. The restaurant is located in an area that isn’t particularly exciting and being on the first floor makes the entrance a bit unconventional, but once you’re in, the atmosphere makes up for it. Overall, this place delivers an excellent fine dining experience with Indian cuisine – something that’s still quite rare to find at this level. Definitely worth a visit.

This was a great stop for dinner. It is on a fairly busy shopping street and you might not see it if you aren’t looking for it. Was medium busy when we were there at 6pm for dinner. Host and waiter were great and food was absolutely delicious. A little expensive but okay as a splurge. Would definitely recommend.

We had an amazing dining experience at Purple Poppadom, Cardiff – truly deserving of its Michelin Star. The food was outstanding, with every dish full of flavor and beautifully presented. The service was warm and attentive, making the evening extra special. A must-visit in Cardiff for anyone who loves exceptional food and fine dining. Highly recommended!

One of the best, most authentic Indian culinary experience I have had. The flavours were amazing in every single dish I tried. This restaurant is one of the many reasons why I absolutely love Indian cuisine. The service was on point and the waiters were very friendly. I highly recommend a trip to this place to order the tandoori lamb dish, it was out of this world.

We had an absolutely delightful Sunday Roast at one of the best restaurants in Cardiff. The food was simply spot on – amuse bouche was amazing, the chicken was perfectly cooked, tender, and packed with flavour. The cauliflower cheese was particularly delicious – creamy, rich, and comforting, just as it should be. The dessert, a classic bread and butter pudding, was beautifully balanced – not too sweet, with just the right texture and a lovely finish to the meal. The staff were genuinely friendly, welcoming, attentive, and made us feel right at home. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxing Sunday afternoon. Overall, it was a lush experience from start to finish. We’ll definitely be back!

We went here to celebrate a new job for my husband. As it was a special occasion we had the Chefs tasting menu with matching wines. First ever visit and we will definately be back! As I dont eat meat the chef was great at adapting the menu for me, each course was beautifully presented and tasted great. Staff were lovely and the restaurant had a great atmosphere. 100% recommend.

During a recent visit to Cardiff, I had the pleasure of dining at the Purple Poppadom. It was a memorable dining experience for my family to have together and I’m glad we did it together. You can see the entrees we got in the pictures, but I will focus in on the main course as that was the standout by far. We got the chef’s signature dish, the Tiffin Seabass. I’m a sucker for a signature dish - and I can see why this one is one. The subtleties in the flavours and the way it combines together was very well thought out. The skin was crispy on the seabass, the curry leaf infused mash was something I wish I could make and the dish just worked. I love getting a Biriyani and my daughter felt like some chicken so we got that and the waiter suggested we pair it with the Dal Tadka. The Dal Tadka was almost the highlight of the whole meal so definitely get it, just well balanced and yummy and great to mop up with the top of the Biriyani and Naan. I said almost the highlight because there was more - the Lamb Roganjosh might be the best one I’ve ever had, I shared the meat evenly with everyone, but kept putting the sauce on more rice and eating it with Naan. Like most the dishes, the balance of the spices is a skill on show. Probably didn’t need dessert but the rose crème brûlée was calling out to me, so we shared some. I’ve never had a pink one before but the sugar cracked like it should and the flavours were well thought out, like all the other dishes. We left full and happy and stepped out into the gentle rain of the evening - all with different favourite things we’d eaten and grateful for the experience. The chef’s know what they are doing here and the wait staff were polite, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Definitely get the dal.

So, this was a gourmet culinary treat to the tastebuds! I had visited this gem without expectations and could confirm I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of dining in. Very attentive services with explanations of what was on our plates and how best to savour them, whether scooped with a spoon for a painstaking and seductive experience or devoured whole for an explosion of varied flavours and sensations. So enjoyable, we left happy and satisfied. Thanks PP.

Me and my boyfriend booked here for our anniversary. The food was amazing, would 100% recommend the scallops as the sauce was the best thing I've tasted. The staff were very polite and even gave us complementary shots at the end of our meal. Its a beautiful restaurant and we enjoy every part of it!

Amazing food & excellent & friendly service. One of the best if not the best Indian restaurants in Cardiff hands down!

A must visit for lovers of Indian cuisine! The flavour of the sheek kebab starter was deeply intense and my wife said she would gleefully eat the the scallops as her last meal. The lamb in the saag was very tender and delivered a rich irony flavour. The smell accompanying saffron rice was intoxicating and the peshwari naan was crisp and sweet. The chef selection of deserts was to die for; particularly the crackly then cloudlike rose crème brulé. Finally, surrounding all this culinary magic, the service was snappy and engaging.

One of Cardiff’s best indian restaurants, the food was really tasty and well presented. We were a large party and everyone enjoyed thier meals. Extensive menu with plenty of veggie options. The new contemporary interior brings a nice ambience to the space.

What an experience, the food was 10 out of 10 and the service was 10 out of 10! Wow, I can’t wait to come back to Cardiff now!

We brought meat eaters to this very tasty place for veggies and vegans, they loved it too. Classy and welcoming atmosphere. Toilets very clean and appropriate for the standard of food. Banging food. Appropriate takeaway materials that were recyclable. Better biodegradable materials needed.

Nice Indian Restaurant with great service set in an ambient atmosphere. The menu is small but unique and not your run of the mill Indian Cuisine. The menu changes seasonaly.

Justifiably billed as one of best Indian restaurants in the UK. You’ll want to book online over the weekend and holidays. Delightful high quality flavors. The Bombay Chat is so good I had it as both a starter and dessert! The garlic naan aroma graces the dining room and the Peshwari naan is excellent too. The vegetarian Thali is good, though I always come away wishing I’d ordered something more bold//perhaps a few starters instead. The masala sliced chai rounds off a delightful evening. Service is quick and discrete. Highly recommend.

Dining at an Indian curry house in Cardiff was a delightful experience. The lamb curry was a flavorful masterpiece, rich and aromatic. The pairing of local ale and South American wine added a unique twist to the meal. The ambiance was warm and inviting, enhancing the overall enjoyment. I would confidently rate it a perfect 5 out of 5. The attentive service and the fusion of flavors made it an exceptional culinary journey

I live in London, but was in Cardiff last night, and decided to try this place out. It blew my mind! The food was not only beautifully presented (see the Tiffin Seabass) but also amazingly delicious. I had a starter called Pidi with Tharavu - a duck curry with steamed rice dumplings cooked with coconut milk and intriguing spices (my photo does not do it justice.).The food is not cheap, but I thought it exceptional. I'll be definitely going back there, next time I'm in Cardiff.

The Chicken trio starter and the mini vegetable filled pastry (mini samosa) is just amazing. Excellent hospitality and some new selection of dishes (like Chocomosa dessert). Definitely, a go to place for indian food whenever you are in Cardiff :)

This place is amazing! One of THE best Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to. I had the vegetarian platter which was gorgeous. The food itself can be a little pricey but it’s well worth it. The food was delicious and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. The vegetarian platter comes with a selection of curry/curried vegetables, rice and a naan bread. The staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Definitely book in advance though as it can get busy.

Fantastic food & service. The food here is a cut above the standard Indian fare with generous portions and tasty, unique dishes. The mint & coriander sorbet served with my chicken dish was new to me and delicious. The restaurant is spotless, the service faultless. Prices are fair. We had 1 starter (Onion Palak Pakoda big enough to share) 2 mains (Vegetarian Platter, Nawabi Chicken), poppadoms, naan, pilau rice, 3 Kingfisher beer a bottle of sparkling water. The bill, including a discretionary service charge was £76. We will definitely be eating here again.

Dined here on a Wednesday, table for 2. Incredible service, made to feel completely welcome and looked after. The food that followed was incredible and delicious and the range of drinks was also impressive. We will be back!!

My wife and I have been to this restaurant several times over the past few years, as well as using their take away service. Every occasion, without fail, we've enjoyed delicious high quality food at reasonable prices. Most recently we went for lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant was quiet with only one other table occupied. I had the Weekend Taster meal: 3 courses, with the first course being 3 small individual helpings of different dishes. The second course was 5 small dishes including one plain rice and 4 small naan. Dessert was a pink creme brulee. My wife had Chicken Connoisseur to start with Saag Gosht and Pilav rice (check the menu on the website for details). I finished off with a particularly good black coffee. Total cost, including service was £74.03 which we thought was outstanding value. Not the traditional Sunday lunch but very, very good. This restaurant has to one of the very best Indian restaurants in the Cardiff area; if not the best.

Great food and lovely staff. The starter was very small (2 scallops). 3 scallops would be a better portion. 2 seems a bit tight for £13. The starter was very nice though. The main meals were all lovely, so we're the basket of assorted breads and rice's we had. Well worth a visit.

December 30, 2025 This was our first visit. Celebrated my birthday, last night. Absolutely lovely. The food was outstanding, the staff were friendly, and couldn't do enough for us, including presenting my birthday cake, ( which we had brought) with lighted candles, and singing 'happy birthday'. Will definitely be returning. Thank you Purple Poppadom.

We went on Boxing Day evening for the first time. It will definitely not be the last. The food was absolutely superb from start to finish. 4 of us ordered a different starter each ( after fresh poppadoms with great spice accompaniments) and all were superb. Followed by excellent and varied mains plus dessert and 4 spoons. Really excellent food. What's more the service was spot on, warm , welcoming, attentive but not over fussy. Can't wait to return.

This is without doubt the best place to dine. The taster menu was a wonderful experience, amazing taste sensation every course. Beautifully presented. Spoke with Sid the chef..top man..incredible attention to detail with his flavours and plate delivery. The service was most attentive and so friendly and polite. First class. The decor is so fresh and attractive and 6 of us celebrating a birthday were sat on a round table, so much easier for chatting and we were thoroughly looked after by all staff. A must try restaurant. You won't be disappointed. Big thanks to all concerned. No complaints at all from the six of us.

The tasting menu is fantastic! I'm vegetarian and my husband isn't and both options were incredible! Each course left me struggling to decide which was my favourite. Although Indian restaurants often don't seem to offer desert the pudding course didn't disappoint. It was a beautiful rose creme brulee with a little pastry triangle with a chocolate filling and a sugared banana thing. The service was very attentive without making us feel pushed or rushed and the restaurant was busy but fairly large so we weren't squished in and we could talk at a comfortable volume with no problem. Would recommend to everyone!

So, a number of awards, a reduced unusual but very interesting menu and prices well above average - we weren't sure what to expect. The chutneys were the first sign suggesting we were in for something good. We had the Kozhi Curry which was very good with a range of spices coming through a coconut base sauce with a little bit of a kick. The Lamb Shank dish is one to definitely try. However, was it good value for money ? You'll have to decide this for yourself.

Easy to book online. Decent and accommodating service. Definitely more expensive than most Indian restaurants. Indian food is usually served family style but this one is one dish per person - which was completely unexpected. In my opinion, that falls expensive and also monotonous. Their thali packages are a good idea. Food was wonderful, I don’t suggest ordering cocktails - too light and very little flavor. All the little things add up - bottled water, baskets of fried papads, large pours of wine, so just be mindful. They could handle a large group!

The atmosphere and food were great. Staff were a little eager taking away dishes and glasses. It is just my view, but you would have a similarly good meal at Mowgli's, but for less cost. Nothing bad to say really, all very good, but there are more reasonable alternatives without compromising on the flavour / quality of the food .

I treated a friend for his birthday to the chef's signature 7 course tasting dishes. The food was expertly crafted and well presented with sublime flavours. The only fault was that all the dishes bar one were very small. This meant my friend and I were still hungry after trying the best selection on offer.

We got recommended to come here to try "high quality" food. The atmosphere was really lovely and staff friendly however they seem to want to rush you for orders. We ordered food however coming from an Asian background myself the food was very unimpressive and bland. There are so many other places on city road I would go to for an Indian. I just think the palate is not suitable for those who enjoy tasty food. Very underwhelming. Nice people but food not to standards I am used to. Price was £130 for two, with 2 drinks each.

Daylight Robbery Disguised as Fine Dining – Avoid at All Costs I rarely have a bad meal, mainly because I research every restaurant religiously before visiting (in Tripadvisor we trust). But my god – The Purple Poppadom slipped the net, and what a mistake that was. The menu was the first warning sign. None of the classic Indian dishes you’d expect – no Jalfrezi, no Bhuna. We ordered poppadoms to start, which arrived as a basket of broken shards with three token chutneys. No yoghurt, no onions – laughable for a restaurant trading on “fine dining” credentials. The mains were even worse. My lamb rogan josh was just lumps of meat dumped into thin gravy, and my partner’s chicken dish was so poor it had to be taken off the bill. When I raised the fact that my £18.95 lamb dish had just four pieces of meat, the waiter smugly corrected me: “There are five.” Oh, well in that case – what a bargain! Portions across the board were poor: the rice came in the tiniest bowl imaginable, and while the naan was decent, it hardly rescued the meal. Then came the insult: a bill of £67 (with a £25 meal removed) for two underwhelming mains, four broken poppadoms, two beer and two soft drinks. Outrageous. The last award this place won was five years ago, and it shows – the quality has collapsed since. And the service? When we raised our (very reasonable) concerns, the waiter found it all too stressful and sloped off into the kitchen for a vape. Absolutely disgusting. The Purple Poppadom is living on a faded reputation it no longer deserves. Overpriced, under-portioned and underwhelming. Quite possibly the worst Indian I’ve ever had – and I will never return.

Had a takecaway of soft shell crab and a prawn biriani. It was so awful I cannot say, well I can actually, my cats wouldn't eat it. So so bad. Will never mention this place again as it makes me feel nauseous

We visited on a Monday night as a group of ten to celebrate a friend’s 82nd birthday. I had recommended this restaurant because I’d eaten here before and always considered it a fine-dining Indian experience. Unfortunately, this visit was nothing like what I remembered. From the start, the staff seemed disinterested and almost irritated to serve us. I need to emphasise that our group was polite, calm, and respectful. Most of us don’t drink alcohol at all, and those who did had one glass of wine or one beer — so there was absolutely no behaviour that could justify being rushed or made to feel unwelcome. The biggest issue came when, while we were still eating our mains, we were asked if we wanted dessert because they wanted to close the kitchen early. I explained that we were still eating and that desserts should be offered after the main course, not during it. Moments later, instead of offering dessert or coffee, they simply placed the bill on the table and told us they were closing early. This was the most unprofessional service I’ve ever experienced. The night was supposed to be a special celebration, yet I ended up feeling embarrassed in front of my guests. I even took them all out for another dinner the following week just to make up for how poorly this evening went. To the restaurant: you didn’t just lose a group of ten diners — you’ve lost all of our families as well, because none of us will be returning after this. And honestly, if you planned to close early, why accept and confirm an 8pm reservation made two weeks in advance? It’s unacceptable to make your customers feel like an inconvenience. A real shame, as this used to be a place I admired and recommended

D
David Lewis

Disappointed. Started with my pet hate, poppadoms crushed into small shards to disguise tiny portion. Dips were tiny and average aswell. However, Chicken connoisseur starter was absolutely delicious. Mains were biggest disappointment with my beef brisket just a tiny portion of beef cubes in a bland gravy. Wife had murgh nakhani which was tiny portion of chicken cubes in what tasted like Heinz tomato soup. Rose crème bulee desert was nice. Service was good but at over £60 a head (1 glass wine only drink) expected much more won’t be returning.

C
Christopher Wiltshire

Very disappointing experience. Partner had found a big lump of cling film in her drink. No real apology and still charged for the drink. Waited around an hour for mains, again no real apology and on top of this a £13 service charge added on the bill. Overall a poor experience, not acceptable for the price paid, this cost around 3x higher than most other places. I had been here a few years ago, it’s no where near the same level as before in both food and customer service.
