Absolutely fantastic. Great place to stop in for a quick bite. Food is delicious, service is courteous and the cooks are fast, good, and consistent. Everything I have ordered so far has been delicious. Huge fan of their California burrito. Their salsa from the salsa bar is great, they have a wonderful extra-hot salsa that you wouldn't typically get at a place like this. And it's always a good sign when there are a lot of Spanish speaking Mexican customers at a Mexican restaurant, just like this one. 😊

They have some of the best Mexican food in town. They have seating inside and outside. The bathrooms are clean. They have plenty of parking. The restaurant is small so I take my food to go. Today I had Caldo De Pollo (Chicken soup). On other days I order three roll tacos with guacamole only on top or chicken taco. You can't go wrong with any food you order. Food is always fresh. Sometimes, if the restaurant is busy, I walk to Von's market and pick up some dessert. Other times my order is ready in 5 minutes. The average time is from 5 to 12 minutes.

Excellent authentic South of the Border flavor. The Machaca Burrito is a mouth watering breakfast item and they know how to make a good one,(eggs, shredded beef, onions, bell peppers and cheese). I order mine without cheese. It's gigantic and holds you until lunch time for sure!

From Texas visiting family. Viejo was on their favorite places to eat. I had the California Burrito and I ate all of it. Definitely a Texas sized burrito, but made in California. I wasn't disappointed at all. Loved it.

We wanted some good Mexican food after Legoland and found this hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant. The food was delicious and hot. The cashier was very nice and welcoming. My kids loved their food which is a plus for me. I had the carne asada nachos. The chips were nice and crispy, plenty of toppings, and generous on the meat. The horchata was awesome. Will definitely come back next time I'm in Oceanside.

Quick take out service (5 minutes) on a Tues at 7:30pm. Excellent crispy beef tacos, really good. Crunchy, rich, and savory. Spicy salsas from the self-serve bar are tasty with a lot of zing. Carne asada burrito weighed in at 22oz! Nice. Enchiladas are just fantastic - very large and stuffed with shredded beef, green bell pepper, tomato, onion, and jalapeno. Wow.

Wonderful customer service and the food is delicious. My husband had a carne asada burrito that was very large and the meat was so lean, tender and tasty. I had a chicken tostada in which the chicken had the best flavor! You know how sometimes you get Mexican food and there is no flavor added to the meat? Not here!!!

This place is real good, been going here for years, call in my order special instructions to the order and always on point! Gracias and thank you to the staff and owner!!

My friend & coworker turned me on to this mexican shop. Bottom line is I can't say how anything else is on the menu because we never get past their fish tacos. I've tried plenty other fish tacos & most are quite good. These I put in the top 5 if not 3 I've had. These are really big & really good & always consistent. Even from their other locations. Wonderful customer service and the food is delicious. My husband had a carne asada burrito that was very large and the meat was so lean, tender and tasty. Cumulative of only two visits so have to adjust to that. Very good i.e. big size burritos. First tride shrimp, tasted very good and flavorful. Yesterday tried carne asada and was just cold, I think it affects the taste overall. Had all the usual things in it, just didn't taste good. They were fairly busy so I decided not to complain... They do have a good selection of salsa bar and peppers and pickled carrots. Will give them another shot. If 2 out of 3 is meh, will move on. Otherwise will update.

I haven’t try all the menu, but the California burritos are good, specially accompanied with the green salsa. The only bad thing is that they charging a fee for a soda refill and it’s a little pricey.

Love this place! The food is great! Good size portions. Can't go wrong with their Super Nachos or any of their burritos. There is usually a line, but it is worth it.

Great little place, especially for take out. Their burritos are really good with lots of choices and are huge, can only eat a half of one at a sitting. Not just huge but good quality as well.

So this is actually a very good mexican food choice. I've never ordered anything that I didn't like. I tend to get the veggie burrito or the bean burrito or beef tacos with guacamole, which are all very good.

This is a go to stop for a hearty Mexican breakfast. I stop by to eat burrito at least once a week and very few times I have received a bad burrito and I’ve been coming here for 5 years. Their consistency is really good and always without fail. I will recommend to order your burritos with less potato because they seem to stuff it as if it was a potato burrito.

My wife and daughter's love there chicken soup when sick, it's like grandma makes. Always busy, great food. Popular with high school kids!! Unisex bathroom in kitchen sucks. But at least they offer one.

My wife and I just moved to carlsbad and are looking for our 'hole in the wall' Mexican food joint. We tried Mexico Viejo tonight and I was very disappointed. The food was reasonably priced but when I got my cheese enchilada combo, the enchiladas were cold. Actually, they had never been heated! The cheddar cheese inside was not even melted! (Picture included)... I ate the meal but I will not be back. Quality control Mexico Viejo, quality control...

I am a regular at this place. Stop by once or twice a week. The food I was served today will cause me to never go back again. The fish burrito was a pile of burned fish served on a burned tortillas. The old guy who was working this evening 04/07/18 should be ASHAMED of himself for serving this garbage. Only a poor excuse for a cook and human being would do something like this. What a way to appreciate your regulars. This sloppiness and your lousy excuse for a cook will eventually catch up with you. What a shame!!!!

Really, really bad. Ordered a California burrito and it felt like they just took it out of the refrigerator. It was so cold that none of the cheese melted, but saying that doesn't give you the idea of how cold it was. I was so hungry that I tried to eat it anyway, but it tasted like dirty lettuce (no lettuce on it). I can count on one hand how many times I've had Mexican food I didn't want to eat in my thirty years in Southern California, but this was truly brutal.

We ordered a Carne asada quesadilla but instead it was a Carne Asada with no cheese!. We told the unfriendly cashier that we wanted more cheese than Carne asada and she gave us fresh cheese on a cup! I told her quesadilla means melted cheese! She said if you want more cheese it will be extra! I said so just give us a plain quesadilla and money back because we don't want the Carne asada. She said I'm asking my manager she walked some steps back and came back the manager must be invisible because there was no one there! And on top of that they don't forget to ask for the TIP on your bill in advance. It was my birthday unpleasant time! I will not return to this place EVER!!!

This place used to be good back in the day not sure what happened. Meat is always cold and dry. And they over load it on everything else but the meat. And if you order sour cream make sure you order it on the side because you won't see it or taste it if you don't. And save your drink till the end because they started charging a dollar or 2 now for a refill.

Terrible food and customer service. This is not Mexican food. This is left over food. Unsalted and staled steak. Woman at the register was careless. Kitchen guy intentionally messed up with my order. Or at least it seemed that way. I will never come back. Wasted $19

I’ve read such good reviews about this place that I have to think this was a kitchen accident; but there’s no way to get a refund for 2 cheese enchiladas as DoorDashed is not responding to chat.

The food was great, unfortunately the service was not welcoming. The lady taking our order seemed like she didn't enjoy her job or was upset and you could feel the negative energy. I went to go pour hot sauce on my roll tacos and she told me I couldn't do that. I had to use the containers. I try to save them some money so they wouldn't have to spend money on them but apparently they don't care. That also put more negativity on the environment. I won't be bringing my family back here again which is very unfortunate because the food was good.
