Lovely diner with friendly staff and great typical american breakfast options. I had the chicken fried steak and my sister tried the Eggs benedict. We loved both! The portions are large and delicious. The highlight for me was the cute toy train track with an electric toy train near the ceiling that runs all around the restaurant! Definitely kid friendly and entertaining.

I was reminiscing about Ruby's Diner, one of my favorite dining locations at the Oceanside Pier. They had closed many years ago and the building recently burnt down. But after doing a search online, I realize that they had a location in Carlsbad. This is my review of Ruby's Diner in the Carlsbad outlet mall. I am very happy that this Ruby's Diner is only 15 minutes away from downtown Oceanside. Although I don't come to this mall frequently, I may start returning more often thanks to my experience eating here. Ruby's Diner is known as a Classic American Diner that is well known for their burgers, fries & milkshakes. They're also famous for their vintage 50's & 60's themed decor & music. Their interior is very spacious and accommodate groups and families easy. You can also choose to sit outside on the patio as well. The vintage theme has various paraphernalia and decorations from the 60s era. They also have a functioning train set that runs a track on the ceiling above. The kids love it! I think the only CON I found for their atmosphere was in regards to their men's restroom being too small and only having 1 stall & 1 urinal. Their service is always courteous, fast & friendly and I love their uniforms. Although their menu is based on an American diner theme, there are many other options to help diversify one's dining choices. For breakfast, you can find items like eggs Benedict, omelettes, avocado toast, breakfast burritos, biscuits & gravy, chicken fried steak, waffles, pancakes, French toast, and of course, a typical American breakfast with eggs and bacon. Their lunch and dinner menu is just as extensive. Their portions are very fair considering the price, and overall, I love the customization options for customers who want to create their own flavor experiences by mixing & matching ingredients. My most recent experience was with a Cobb burger, Cajun Fries and a Salted Caramel Milkshake. I loved the variance from salty bacon, to juicy burger, to seasoned crispy fries & the sweet sips of heaven! Anytime I want a true vintage dining experience, I come to Ruby's Diner in Carlsbad to send me down memory lane. I recommend!

We had breakfast here before heading to Legoland for the day. The portions are big. We were able to skip lunch for the day, even with all the walking we did. The staff were attentive and the service was fast. The food was delicious. They gave my kid a cool paper car to assemble too!

After checking out all the cool classic cars at Windmill Food parking lot, I had a hankering for a bacon cheeseburger at a diner...Rubio's came to mind and was close by. Ordered the bacon cheeseburger with fries and diet coke. I was grateful they had more cheese options than Swiss and American cheese. Additionally, they had cheddar and muenster, both very good alternatives to my "Sammich". 😁 I chose muenster! Bacon was thick and cooked crispy the way I like it. Fries were interesting..in a good way. Something was different about it, but I could not put my finger on it..(that's an idiom, 😁). Actually I could eat it with my fingers...hehe.., but not to know why it was different (idiom, i said that already, huh?). Service was quick and cheerful, even though it was busy. I do recommend coming here. If there was anything I would change about my meal, it would be my drink (diet coke) in a plastic drinking cup. I have a pet peeve about reusable plastic drinking cups on the edges...any deformity, chips, dents freak me out a bit....I likened it to a small child that drank out of it and chewed on the lid...shutter....( Of course, it could be a nervous adult, too).. This is why i rub my finger along the edge... Okay, okay, back to my safe place....just kidding. I do prefer to drink my soda out of a glass. I reckon y'all know why now. Hm Enjoy, come on by... Oh yes, about the plastic drinking cup...if you start doing what i do now... sorry about that. 😉😊

Stopped here today for breakfast and my friend wanted to have lunch. I got the pancakes with scrambled eggs and potatoes, it was pretty good. My friend got an Impossible burger and subbed the fries with onion rings which she said was very good. She also got crispy green beans which it tried and were good. The one thing that bothered me the most was that when she went to put her green beans on a plate the bottom of the container has red cabbage stuffed in the bottom to make it look like it was filled with the green beans. These 2 meals with the tip came to $71.00!!! Restaurants are getting crazy with their prices. 😠

Nice American diner. Nothing too special, you get your regular diner specials. The best thing I ordered was the tots with chili for sharing. This location has the Tesla charging station too. Good place to eat while going through interstate five.

It’s been years since I had Rubys I brought my fiancee in hopes she would love the burgers and shakes. I’m very disappointed. The bun fell apart the patty tasted weird. If you’re a really big fan of burgers don’t come here. The boss should be getting better quality of beef and buns. The staff WAS AMAZING THEY DID WHAT THEY COULD BUT THE FOOD WAS AWFUL. I will never come back. I don’t think I’ll recommend people here either. ): Thank you for feeding us. We do appreciate that.

I'm a huge fan of American diners and restaurants with a solid breakfast menu. The food was good and came out swiftly. The coffee was rather gross with a bitter/sour flavor to it. Refills on coffee/service were non-existent for most of our visit, but the staff was friendly otherwise.

I miss the original rubys where they had the original food the original fit fries. Everything was so much better before all the closures and the business takeovers… Went there yesterday and I got sick from the food. I don’t think it was cooked enough or maybe it was old, but I’m really let down. I’ve always been a Ruby’s fan and this will be the last time I go. I’m just so shocked that it’s not the same. I wish they go back to the original food,, their original fries so sad. 😞

Salutations everyone! Received business card from Jesus at the Carlsbad diner location. Bit of a customer satisfaction issue with the high hopes of enjoying the atmosphere and obviously really great food, this experience has heavily dented our experience to the point we have zero desire trying again and have no expectations of what would bring us back. It left a scar mark being that we just started our Marathon journey as a family and had such exciting vibes to add a new restaurant that was a childhood experience to our family tradition and go to place for future. Sadly to say not the case. Myself and my kids just ran our very first marathon and I did pay the extra to be not only a companion runner but to also participate. We received 3 bibs, however coming in proud with our medals and bibs... Jesus was only going to honor 2 of the 3 bibs free kids meal....I myself wanted to just order something from the kids menu and use the bibs redemption. This was refused,  multiple attempts just being as kind as possible and asking. Its just me and my kids and I can't say anything kind in return about how I was addressed and treated despite showing how frustrating I became and how hungry we are. Please note that the kids menu itself does not say only for 12 years and under. So this is where it also continues to get frustrating. I happily and proudly would have ordered from the kids menu to honor the bib redemption. I was not asking for any subs or money off difference on regular plate meal. So sad, not only did I not get to eat.... but we will not be coming back nor able to promote good business. Regardless of the 12 and under,  should still be honoring those who do pay and participate and show good faith of being supportive in the community. Had very high hopes and wanting to return, in writing this email the negative impact effects everyone! Including the poor staff to encounter the awkwardness and not being tipped for good services. Hope you find better practices in customer service and honoring what you put out if you want to increase loyalty and more inviting to families to experience the diner. It's more than just the free kids bib deal, its the whole vibe that got set, the atmosphere left a negative impact and just a real distasteful experience that would be hard to re-do for being marked a 1st time experience. Lastly, for the "free meal" even more unfortunately, my kids were still hungry after 2 pancakes and 1 piece of bacon. They both had an honest opinion that they get more better food and love the waitresses at the other places we dine at because they are nicer to thier Mommy. (Me) however they did love the trains, airplane and the little free folding car. Which was a great thing that we wished we could look forward to again. We will not be returning. I truly hope no other families get tainted with this experience and know that they will not honor anything or speak with kindness in redemption and or make any amends of an apology or offer. Best luck to the reviewers and families
