So GOOD! Definitely get something from their specials rather than something standard. I got the special Oaxacan tamales wrapped in banana in leaves with mole chicken inside. So delicious!
The food is easily the best Mexican food in Carpinteria. I’ve lived here my whole life and this is such a great place to get reasonably priced and authentic Mexican food, especially from the Oaxaca region. It is family owned. I know the restaurant usually doesn’t look very busy but don’t be fooled.. the food is great. I recommend trying the Monte Alban dish with seafood. It’s delicious and you can’t get it anywhere else. The wife of the family also makes a great flan. Other recommendations: Chile relleno enchiladas, pollo estofado with mole, wet burrito with red sauce, and their pico de Gallo is the best.
This is by far one of the best Mexican Restaurants I have tried in the 805 (From San Miguel to Oxnard). The restaurant is a little old fashion but the food is incredible. We tried a little bit of everything (enchiladas, carne asada, tamales, rice, beans, jamaica water and flan). Everything taster great was we were pleasantly surprised that the cleanliness and attention from the staff. We are visiting Carpinteria for a short getaway and will definitely come back again just to eat here again.
I just ate there and I was so impressed with their burritos I like to travel up and down California eating food and this spot is definitely a place I will be eating at more often. The service was outstanding it was more than I could ask for check it out
7 of us had dinner ......all orders were delicious. Not overlying cheesy or oily....real Mexican food.
First time eating here & is amazing.. the spot to be if you want Mexican food.
Best margaritas and chilaquiles in a loooong time

Just had lunch here. Great service and tasty burritos! The kids couldn't get enough of their chips and salsa and the kids meals were adult size portions. Loved the Carne Asada and Carnitas burritos and both the enchilada sauce and the green sauce were so good. Prices are also reasonable for the portions!
Excellent! We loved the chips and salsa, the Carne Sada tacos, and the nachos supreme. Went back a little later same day.
Since the remodel they have really stepped up their game. The food is great and Victor is the most attentive server ever. The fish tacos are the best.
Delicious authentic Mexican food. Shrimp tacos were excellent. Two great choices of salsas. Warm yummy tortillas. No alcohol

Lovely family-owned business with delicious food and two patios. I make sure to eat here any time I'm in town! Totally love anything they do with fish and shrimp.
The food was pretty good and the waiter was nice. It took a little while, but we weren't in a hurry, so it was fine.

got a super burrito and LOVED IT. This burrito isn't the biggest burrito in the world, but it packs a big punch! The flavor in the super burrito was amazing, I'll definitely be back. Minus one star for charging for salsa, then only packing half of the small container with actual salsa......
Great service and outside seating. The Chile verde burrito was great, but the grilled fish tacos (sea bass) were just ok. The fish had very little flavor and no seasoning to speak of. They do have some great specials too. Prices are not bad.

We came here today as we were very hungry and this was the first place we came up on. We walked in and no one greeted us but there were people in the restaurant so we just seated ourselves. We ordered our drinks a few minutes after we sat down. The gentleman brought us chips and salsa. The chips tasted stale and the salsa was pretty bland. My husband got his beer before I got my diet coke. I didn't get my drink until almost 10 minutes later. We were able to order maybe 10 minutes after that. My husband got a burrito and I got enchiladas. His burrito was bland as well. My tortilla and cheese for the enchilada was good but the red sauce was a bit thick and bland as well. There was no spice to it at all. It was sweet too which was weird. The rice was mushy but the beans were great, I wish the whole meal was like that. The gentleman assisting us I believe was the owner. He did not come to check on us. He seemed to be more involved with the soccer game and looking at his phone. The service was subpar to say the least. The lady working there was nice though.

Unfortunately, we had a horrible experience here. The halibut tacos were not halibut, and the rice and beans came cold on a cold plate. I asked if they were indeed halibut, and the waitress said it was fish "like" halibut. My husband I I swear it was catfish :( As hungry as we were, we could not eat them. I do not recommend this place.
Never eating here. My food had tiny worms when I complaint he got upset. I checked their operating permits and this place has no current license to operate. Expired a year ago. You cannot have a napkin or use the restroom if you are not buying anything. Just bad people. Next door was great and further down they have great service with eating bar, in or outside eating area and the people are so nice and respectful.
I feel terrible leaving bad reviews, but if I can save just one person from eating here, it's worth it. I cannot understand the 5 star reviews for this restaurant. I didn't know that food, especially Mexican food, could have so little flavor. They didn't bring us chips and salsa until we asked, the water tasted like it was out of the tap and served in poorly washed glasses. Everything we ate needed salt, nachos were soggy and cold. Service was extremely slow. This place is a dive, so I expected some excellent food, but was sorely disappointed. 😭
Well for $16.95 Mole Chicken, it should at the very least be hot thoroughly. Chicken was warm outside and COLD inside. Sauce so-so. Chili Releno slightly above room temperature ware. Now that I'm reading their reviews, I'm seeing a lot of comments with similar experience as our's. Seems like one of those hit and miss places. Bummed.
Was walking by with my family. Daughter had a runny nose so I went in to ask if I can have a napkin. Was told no since I wasn’t a customer. They told me to go to Rori’s, who was more than happy to give me a $0.002 napkin. Wouldn’t give this place my patronage if it were the only restaurant open in town.
