I first visited Thai Station with a friend almost two years ago, indulging in the Thai Street Basil Sauce lunch special and the train car seating area. A 2nd visit was way overdue for me, but I finally made that visit yesterday evening on 3/2! I ordered the Crab Cheese Egg Rolls and the Thai Mama Ramen Soup. My oh my, both items were delicious! The Thai Mama Ramen Soup is particularly memorable; my taste buds lived for the lime flavor and recalls it vividly. The broth was so satisfying to sip, and the texture of the shellfish was on point! The waitress was very hospitable, offering to provide menu recommendations and even hyped up the dinner items I ultimately chose. It was really hard to determine what to order, because so many dishes looked SO GOOD! But I let my taste buds lead the way, and they led me to the Thai Mama Ramen Soup. I'd certainly order it again, although during my future visits I plan to try their other dishes, such as their Pad See Ew, Ba Mee Noodle Soup, House Duck Noodle Soup, and of course, their Pad Thai. See how I got carried away right then? That’s a testament to how special Thai Station is, and I’ll be making my 3rd visit within a couple of months.
We went near Christmas and it was magical. The location is stunning. The staff was RUNNING accommodating everyone. They were so busy and the staff did such a good job of handling everything. We waited a little longer than you normally would but it didn’t matter, because everything was so good. One of our favorite spots.
I drive 1.3 hr to try this restaurant because don’t have Thai restaurant near me. I’m very surprise that taste very authentic, yummy and good service. Will come back again.
My family and I came for dinner at 7 p.m. on a Saturday night. The wait was only about 25 minutes and well worth it. The Thai tea was perfectly sweet, and likely of the best Thai teas I've ever had. My 5-year-old ordered the chicken nuggets and loved them; I snagged one of her fries, and they were hot, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. My husband ordered the Massaman curry and it was absolutely delicious. I had the Thai Spaghettis, which was incredibly flavorful, think drunken noodles, but with spaghetti instead of flat noodles. The food took a little while to come out, but that’s to be expected when the place is packed. Honestly, the only downside of the entire experience was the short straw in a giant schooner-sized glass. It felt like the straw and the cup had never actually met before - kinda awkward😅 Overall, we had a great experience and can’t wait to come back!
Delicious Thai place with a stunning train themed ambiance. We went here on a Friday night, the wait was for 45 minutes which was almost the closing time. But they still accommodated us. The price is very reasonable and the taste of the food is amazing. The service was excellent, the waitress patiently listened to all our requests and made sure they were heard. Would definitely recommend this place
Interesting, fun, whimsical and delicious are how I would describe Thai station. Come for the food, but enjoy the scenery as well. It’s beautifully laid out for you to immerse yourself in the experience. The food is also great along with the service. Just be mindful of the restaurants split closing times for service. The staff was polite and attentive.
This place was extremely cozy and can’t forget to mention you can eat inside one of two trains. Ordered the Thai fried chicken as an app and the crunch was sooo good. The entree was a chicken panang curry with jasmine rice. The spicy was perfect not too spicy. Absolutely loved this place and the food. We will definitely be back.
This uniquely decorated restaurant is delightful. We enjoyed a quick trip for dinner and everything was delicious. The service was quick, respectful, and mindful. Our food was served fresh, everything was very tasty, and prices were reasonable. We had a wonderful experience and will eat here again. This is located in a cute shopping area where you could explore a bit and would make a fun place to bring out of town guests or for a date night.
Just go! The food is so good. I love how the flavors surprise you—like lime and coconut milk in the soup, or a root veggie you don’t usually see outside Thai dishes. Portions are big (I got two dinners out of mine!), everything tastes fresh and crisp, and the prices are super reasonable. Plus, tons of choices if you’re vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free.
A popular Thai restaurant with unique decorations at Carborro. There's a refurbished train coach compartment at one side of the restaurant. There's a good selection of Thai cuisine. Service is friendly and attentive. The Thai green curry and papaya salad are delicious. It can be quite crowded during dinner time. Dine in and also order online are available.
This place is awesome! I can’t believe my partner and I have never tried it despite living in the area for a long time. The atmosphere/interior is the most unique I’ve seen in NC. The food is also great at a reasonable price especially for lunch! Servers were incredibly nice and attentive. The restaurant is also near a lot of other cool things to do when you’re done eating. We are definitely coming back soon 👌🏻
Just had my best Thai lunch experience ever, and definitely one of the best lunches I've had in the Triangle NC area. Highly-recommended if you enjoy spicy Thai curry. It was my 2nd time going to Thai Station but my first time during lunch hours. The place clearly looks like a "Station" as it used to be a train station back in the day. As soon as I entered, I was delighted to see the restaurant's main dining area with beautiful basket lights and lush plants by the ceiling, giving the ambiance an exotic and adventurous vibe. Pretty much as if a train just took us to Thailand. From this area, Thai Station splits into two "train" dining areas of equal size; I was taken to a table on the left side, and handed the restaurant's well-crafted menu with clear photos of various Thai dishes, appetizers, and desserts. And they have a great deal for their Lunch specials, which come with a complimentary item, which for this day, is a small salad with some kind of peanut ginger dressing. I ordered the Panang Curry Lunch special with beef (Medium-spiced) and a glass of iced Thai tea. You can choose other proteins like chicken or shrimp for your curry and the price differences are not much. The complimentary salad and the Thai tea were served fast by the gentle server named Tanat C. The salad tasted fresh and the peanut ginger dressing is so good at just the right amount as an appetizer. It also came with Shrimp chips on a tiny metal basket, and the crispiness of it goes well with the salad. The Thai tea is served in a tall, slender glass, just the fine amount. It tasted delicious, creamy and sweet - a great balance of refreshing Thai tea, condensed milk, and ice. It took about 8 minutes for the Panang Curry to reach my table, so it was quite fast. There are 3 levels of spiciness you can get, and I chose the middle Medium one. First of all, the presentation of this red curry lunch is just appetizing: the curry is served in a cup with just the right amount for an affordable price (around $11.50) and beside it is a fine amount of Jasmine white rice. The sauce of the curry was spiced perfectly, just how I want 3eit. I could taste the rich coconut milk and the authentic Panang flavor. There were red, green, and yellow bell peppers and peas with a good amount of beef. Whether you taste the curry sauce by itself or put it over the rice, the whole meal with the lime leaf on the side is just satisfyingly delicious. The server Tanat C. was a gentleman, refilled my water when I needed it, and I saw him serving the other customers professionally. The two female customers beside me also enjoyed the curry they ordered. I went here with my girl for dinner before, and we tried the Masaman (yellow) curry. It was also authentic and delicious. Both dinner and lunch experiences were good, but I think I enjoyed the lunch one a bit more perhaps because their specials are such a great deal. We also tried the chicken stays skewers, and they're not a bad appetizer, which comes with 4 pieces for $8. As I devoured the remaining curry sauce, I could hear there's an actual train moving outside the window! I thought trains stopped going here in downtown Carrboro, but that added to the wonderful lunch experience inside, living up to its "Thai Station" name. They have other Thai dishes I haven't tried like their soups, stir-fried noodles, friend rice, House's Specials, and mostly-ice cream desserts, but the Thai curry is always a must-order for me. Thai Station's authentic Thai flavors, astonishing ambiance, affordable yet satisfying lunch specials and friendly customer service make this restaurant one of the best reasons to visit downtown Carrboro.
thai station has a very cute atmosphere. its well maintained and the food was also great. we sat in one of the trains and the seats and decor are beautiful since its holiday season. it can be a bit loud in the train seating because its a smaller space with lots of people. the lunch menu pricing is very very worth it! food can be a bit on the sweet side. overall i would visit again and the staff and food is a 10/10
We love Thai station. When my parents came to visit we had to take them to this charming train cars turned restaurant. It can be a bit of a squeeze if you have a large group, but the food has been worth it every time. Zesty, hearty, and unique. I don’t eat much Thai food, but our server is from Thailand and confirmed it is authentic. Decorated well!
Cute idea, cute decor, good food. Dumplings were yummy. Fresh rolls were crisp and fresh and came with two dipping sauces. One was zesty and citrusy which I loved! Tom Yum was good, tho I wish they had asked me for spice level, I would have wanted more heat. Shared a bunch of dishes and they were good, but nothing really wowed me. Worth a visit though, especially if you're in the area.
3.5 really We ordered 3 dishes of which we liked the green curry But the other dish was too salty One dish wasn't our favorite but not bad Seating is unique inside old trains but are limited . We got outside seating Understaffed so service is a little slow and expect a wait for your table A lot of authentic dishes and options that you don't often find Lunch options available for smaller portions till 2 pm
A friend and I tried this popular Thai spot on a day trip to Raleigh. From the moment we entered the door we were blown away by the customer service, atmosphere and food of course! We loved dining inside the train and taking in all the lovely decor. I loved the food so much, I drove back a week later (2.5 hours) to have the same dish but unfortunately they didn’t have the jumbo shrimp for the Bird’s Nest. No matter! Perfect reason to come back again and again! Best Thai food I’ve had in the Carolinas. I would highly recommend.
Wow. This place is unique. The restaurant is made out of several train cars. As for the food I found it to be about average compared to other Thai restaurants I’ve tried. The heat was weaker than other Thai restaurants so go a little higher than you would normally. Definitely give this place a try.
I came here for dinner, the place looked amazing, there was a 40 min wait but we decided to wait since they were short staffed. After seating us, we did not get our food for another hour. When served, my food was room temperature. The food was not the best Thai food I've had in NC, but it wasn't the worst. My khao soi was good, I had ordered it to be medium hot but it was sweet for my taste. Don't order the drunken noodles here, there are more bell peppers than meat, and there's close to no sauce in it. After our meal was complete, we waited another 10-15 minutes for them to get to our check. On top of that, my friend had ordered some noodle soup, and the take out box they gave for it was flat. I understand that they were short staffed and the server was kind and nice, but this was the longest time I have waited for my food, and then it was not even good or hot enough. Also, there weren't many people in the restaurant so idk what caused this much delay. Highly disappointed, I wouldn't recommend this place. The only positive I have to say is that the ambience was nice.
Cute place, great ambiance. We went on a Saturday night, the wait was 10 minutes. Service was on point in that when we got his attention he was fast to respond to our requests but things that were missing was simple things, like asking for napkins. I'm not understanding why they weren't brought to the table automatically. Very considerate when taking the order making sure no one had food allergies which I can appreciate. The food... that's where everything went downhill. Bland... as in not even salt bland. The satay was simply unseasoned chicken on a stick, you couldn't even taste the satay flavoring. The pad tai... totally tasteless. My friend ordered the fried rice, also bland. We didn't eat 1/4 of our dish it was so bad. It's just sad that the closest decent thai place is on Winston-Salem which is a bit far but always worth it.
