Doug's Place is a beloved breakfast spot known for large portions and friendly service. Customers rave about the omelettes, especially with potatoes and onions. It's a nostalgic place for many, reminiscent of childhood family brunches. Some found the bacon cold or omelettes not as ordered.

1st visit here to try a different breakfast spot. Really good choice and enjoyed the French toast, eggs and bacon! Friendly staff. Definitely returning.
Easy to relax here with great service and no pressure. The food is great especially the country potatoes but you have to get the onions on them! And the linguica omelet is awesome too. Bring your appetite because the portions are slightly large. Great place.
2nd time we came to try their Big Wally. Me and my husband could not finish it because the serving is humongous. Server was very attentive and keeps checking if we want more coffee. It’s packed on the weekend but we don’t mind waiting. Will definitely come back again to try other meals on the menu.
Great bang for you buck brunch in this area. You won't leave hungry. We had a few of the omelets (the seafood omelet was so good) and they were fantastic. We were also able to substitute fruit for our potatoes with no upcharge! The servers were on top of everything and seemed to really appreciate our business.
Nice brunch place. Lots of food options. loved hash brown. Hot chocolate good too. French toast presentation was good and it was tasting good too. Go early it gets busy no reservations as far as i know. You need to stand in line to get the table. Service was fast got a big table for 6 people.
The first stop after a flight is always food for me. Doug’s Place was definitely the place to be. Their specialty is Omelettes but my preference was Corned Beef Hash, eggs, hash browns and rye toast. Everything including the French Toast and Turkey Bacon were all Delish! The prices are amazing for the quality and food portions. The plates are definitely shareable. The crowd was diverse, the location was great, the service was good and most importantly the food was awesome!
There is nothing more nostalgic that having Sunday brunch with the family. Doug’s place reminded me of my childhood, a place where my mom and dad would takes us for some delicious American breakfast. Doug’s place is definitely one of the best breakfast spots in Castro Valley. The Chicken fried Steak (aka country fried steak) will always be my favorite American breakfast. BUT I highly recommend you tried their famous Chocha French Toast - it’s delicious! If you’re not a fan of breakfast, then you ought to get some of their Doug's Club Sandwich with some mixed fruits. It was my first time having a club sandwich with alfalfa sprouts, it was delicious and not greasy at all. YUM!
My new favorite breakfast spot in the CV area. Very clean inside and they also have about 5-6 tables outside. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive. I ordered the Chantum which is an omelette made with Bacon, Mushrooms, Tomatoes & American cheese, served with potatoes and sourdough bread. My new favorite omelette! It was so tasty and filling. I don't usually order potatoes but these were great. I stopped by at 8:30am on a Saturday morning and it was packed so you might want to get here early. You'll love this place!
One of my all time favorite places to eat. Me and my grandma used to eat there every week. So when I was back in town I had to take my kids to try it. Great food Big portions good vibes and great staff. This is not a gourmet place so disregard some of the lower ratings complaining about the food not being fancy. If you have never eaten here I highly recommend getting trying Doug’s.
Doug’s Place is the quintessential breakfast spot for Castro Valley locals and travelers alike. A morning person’s dream destination smothered in caramelized onions! My experience spans more than three decades of frequent breakfasts making Doug’s a tradition for me, my family and friends. Good food, great nostalgic atmosphere.
Generous breakfast portions, potatoes with optional onions very good( I would add bell peppers). Chicken Fried Steak decent, not the best, but not the worst. Did not receive the cheese we requested for an omelet. Wait staff very friendly and attentive.
The food we order was ok, French toast was mostly covered up by the amount of powdered sugar they put on it, the scrambled eggs that came with it was eh, but the bacon was COLD and RUBBERY, it looks like we got some bacon that was sitting out for awhile. The Hayward Omelet was good, the potatoes that came with it seemed that they were under a heat lamp for awhile, they were kinda dry and barley warm. Wife barley ate her plate halfway. The place is kinda old school with old pictures on the wall, mostly seniors in there when I was there overall the place is chill with a quite vibe, Service was great and food came out with 5-8 minute when we ordered. Maybe I'll try pancakes next time if I go again.
My cornbread hash was good, came with bread and eggs. I didn't see the waffle/pancake menu or else I would have gotten that instead. My bf ordered a burger, Doug's burger or something, and he ordered curly fries. His plate came with a tiny school looking patty and onion rings. When we asked for the fries, they forgot to mention curly fries were sold out (at 10am). They did ask if he wanted regular fries so they brought those out. Very basic, non seasoned skinny fries. I'd maybe come back for pancakes or French toast...maybe we ordered the wrong things.
Doug's place is a little hole in the wall in a busy shopping plaza in Castro Valley. I tried to call ahead and make a reservation for a group of 4 for a Sunday morning but was told they only take reservations for large groups. They said that there is usually not more than a 5 minute wait. Which was not true, we had to wait 20 minutes. Once we were seated, my chair and my side of the table were covered in syrup from the previous people sitting there. I had to go get some damp paper towels from the bathroom and clean it myself (after it had gotten all over my arms and legs). The waitress was quick to take our orders but it took over 30 minutes to receive our food which is absurd. By that point, between the wait for the table and ordering etc., we had been there for over an hour and still had gotten no food. The food was decent. Okay waffle and I got a side of curly fries which I really enjoyed. A table next to us had actually received their food, took a couple bites, and left because they thought the food was disgusting. The entire restaurant is loud and busy with zero ambiance or decor so don't come here expecting a relaxing meal. Overall, I won't come back here. There's so many brunch places in the bay so don't waste your money here.
Doug's Place in Castro Valley........ You clearly didn't understand the assignment!!!! So I decided to go out for breakfast. My order was chicken fried steak with eggs over easy, county potatoes with light onions and wheat toast. This was quite possibly the worst breakfast ever. The cook acquiesced and covered the "county potatoes" with extra onions. After attempting to pick out the onions, I sent the potatoes back. What returned was the sorriest plate of country potatoes known to man. The server returned with some deep-fried "oversized" plain potatoes. #NeverEatingatDougsplaceAgain
