We checked it out for a bachelor party dinner because we were looking for something different. We ordered the smoked antelope leg with sides and Frontier did not disappoint. The food was delicious and the drinks were amazing. Most of us said we like to go back to try other items on the menu.
First time here. So great! Service was wonderful, food and dranks was amazing. I definitely will be back!
10/10 experience. The staff was friendly and accommodating to our large group of 25 guys, and the food came out incredible. We ordered the XL pig roast with additional sides, and that was way more food than expected. The presentation of the pig is awesome. It comes with three of their own bbq sauces that each are unique and tasty. The honey mustard based bbq sauce was my favorite of the three. The sides are massive as well. The Mac n cheese is so dense and cheesy. I think one would’ve been enough to feed us but we ordered three of them. Overall this was a fantastic experience. Thank you to the staff and the ownership. You guys made our trip to Chicago that much better.
Great food. Fresh and nice quality. Flavors were balanced and it was not too salty. Service was good as well. Took my mother for her 64th birthday. They don't do anything extra or special unless you pay for it. The restaurant has an Indian Jones theme going on. I guess to go with the name Frontier. Got the smoked carrot salad, mushroom fritters, Asian vegetables, and cedar plank salmon. We shared a glass of white wine. The price was not that bad for me and my mother. Glad I checked it out.
Fun experience! We got a pig roast for a birthday party in the upstairs area. It was cool to see! The area is cozy with fun decor. Very enjoyable. Also, the cocktails are very tasty here.
Great atmosphere, fantastic flavors, and excellent service for large groups. Came with a large party and got the whole animal service. Was a fun experience to have it carved table side. Definitely worth your time to go, especially if you book ahead for a large 8+ person sized group.
Amazing menu with a ton of different southern options, perfect spot for brunch with a large group. We came on a Saturday for brunch and it wasn't busy at all so the service was super quick. They had great bloody Marys with the perfect amount of spice. For appetizers we would recommend the: -Grilled oysters 5/5 - So nice and garlicy and we usually just do fresh oysters -Mushroom Fritters 5/5 - They were so good and had an amazing spicy sauce For meal: - Lamb Skillet 5/5 - The garlic potatoes on the side were amazing and the lamb was cooked perfectly Drinks: - Bloody Marys were good - Mex-Presso Martini was very, very sweet - Can't go wrong with the old fashioned options! They also do entire gators or pigs, an entire group of 12 had one when we were there and it looked awesome!
Everything was great. We walked in and were seated right away.. the server did a great job. The place was beautiful and very clean. The food was outstanding.
Came in for our yearly Derby watch party and as always Frontier did not disappoint. The Makers Mark promo team was out in full force offering some free swag that includes a rocks glass dipped in their famous red wax right in front of you. This was cool! Aside from that, the service was excellent for it being a busier event day. Kudos to Noah for killing it and taking care of us. The food this time around was awesome. With the menu always changing Chef Jupp and team never disappoints. Now if only I got more of those Elk Sliders. Can't wait to come back as this is one of our favorite, go-to spots since they first opened. I will continue to recommend this place to anyone, out of town or local!!
First time here and won’t be my last. Food is very good, that fried chicken sandwich is awesome and I usually don’t eat thighs. The kale salad is very good as well, full of raisins and cranberries instead of that crasin stuff. The drink menu is very healthy too. Very friendly staff…just a great experience. Gianni was excellent!
Maaaan, This place is phenomenal! Some good friends decided to take me here for my birthday; and let me tell you. They didn't disappoint. They primarily have a bourbon bar, nothing wrong with that ..just had to mention it. First drink I started out with was "Sorel Sling" X 2. Very good... extremely smooth. For the appetizers we ordered the "Beef Brisket Empanadas", "Fried Gator Bites", "Raw Oysters", & "Mushroom Fritters". The empanadas were good, fried gator bites were good as well..but a little salty. It was most of the groups first time trying raw oysters....not bad at all. For the entrees we ended up getting the "Wagyu Ribs ' , " Beef Ribeye" & the "Crab Stuffed Branzino" For the sides we had the "Burnt End Mac & Cheese" & " Summer Corn Friscasse". Those Wagyu Ribs are delicious! Definitely Flinstone portions. Lol The Branzino was nice and fluffy, and Beef Ribeye was cooked to perfection. Corn was good but the star of the show for the sides; was the Burnt End Mac & Cheese. We almost ordered 2 more of those to go! For dessert we had the shareable "Chocolate Layer Cake" which was yummy...but be warned it's chocolatey as heck. A scoop of ice cream would have been welcome to break that up...but all in all a phenomenal dinner, atmosphere, and all around vibe. We will definitely be back whether it's for the sessions they have with guest chefs every month or gather up a group to really try that full gator spread. Frontier....I rocks with ya! Thanks Rissie & Tay for the dope B-Day Gift! ♥️
With a party of 22, I worried service would suffer. Not the case. They crushed it. Water stayed full, the delicious pitchers of drinks were quick, and the food was heavenly. This is that food for the soul right here. The pork butt, the lamb, the Mac and cheese, even the roast vegetables. It was all scrumptious. Kudos to the staff for making it a great night for us, start to finish.
We reserved the second floor for the baby shower of our eldest daughter. We hosted about 45 people to partake for a menu of a whole smoked pig, delicious chicken, and garlic shrimp. The place is amazing: ample, comfortable, and welcoming. The service was top notch including our bar staff, the chef carving the pig, and the service staff. Jen, our coordinator was always willing to help us with the preparations. And Emily, the hostess, made us feel welcome and appreciated. My entire family thoroughly enjoyed the food, the ambiance, and the service. This is a gem of a place in Chicago.
So I brought 11 of my guys here for lunch for my bachelor party and Frontier did not disappoint. The service was incredible from bringing out the boar, live carving next to our table, all the sides, and the cocktails were great. Set the bar high for the rest of the day with my friends.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at a place that redefined what it means to experience southern cuisine, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of celestial. The dishes were a masterful blend of time-honored traditions and elevated culinary flair, each plate exuding an elegant charm that spoke of the heart and soul of the South. From the first bite, the flavors danced across my palate like a symphony, melt-in-your-mouth bourbon-glazed chicken that tasted like it had been slow-cooked by angels themselves. These oysters were the epitome of fresh—like they had been plucked from the ocean just moments before landing on my plate. Each one had that perfect briny snap, with a flavor so crisp and clean it was like tasting the sea itself. No doubt about it, these oysters were as fresh as it gets, leaving me craving another dozen! And the drinks? Pure magic in a glass. Edgar the mixologist had clearly made a pact with the spirits of southern comfort to craft cocktails that were nothing less than divine. My “skrewball peanut butter and espresso martini” was a mesmerizing blend of peanut butter, sweetness, and just the right amount of southern sass. The ambiance, service, and stunning presentation of every dish and drink came together in a way that transported me to a world where hospitality reigns supreme and every flavor tells a story. If you’re in search of a true southern feast fit for royalty (or space travelers seeking a taste of Earth’s finest), this is your next destination. An out-of-this-world experience through and through!
Been staking out this restaurant for some time. Finally was able to carve out a bit of time to experience their brunch. As far as ambience goes, you definitely want to sit outside or the enclosed back porch. These areas allow you to appreciate the full effect of cozy, yet comfy dining. Gyanni, introduced himself and offered me a drink. I knew that I would be dining off the special Labor Day Brunch Menu which included a mimosa or cowboy punch, an entree and a pasty. I chose the pineapple mimosa with shrimp and grits. My bowl was loaded. I received a very generous portion that included sautéed shrimp, stone ground grits with a spicy broth and green onions. Very good. I just had to try the bacon pancakes; cornmeal in the batter, hibiscus syrup, maple glazed pork belly and crackling. Best pancakes l've ever eaten!!
Came here at lunch so they only served food on their brunch menu. I love their outdoor patio space, the vibe was chilled, and the service was spot on!! Food options are limited d/t the menu. But everything we ordered was wonderful! We would definitely like to try out their dinner in the near future!!
First time at Frontier, absolutely loved the outside covered patio. The drinks, food and service were all fantastic for brunch. Their Mac and cheese is hands down our favorite dish of the day. If I had any feedback, the steak could've been cooked at a hotter temp to better render the fat, but otherwise it was great!
Came here for the gator dinner and it was a 10/10 experience! I’ve never had gator before and we got to try gator loin, gator sausage, and a whole gator! Super tender and not chewy. Cooked very well. And just an overall amazing dinner!
We got the whole pig roast and it was amazing. There was so much leftover food. i believe it's meant to feed 15 but we had a party of 17 and still a bunch of leftovers. You can't go wrong with the mac and cheese, but the white barbecue sauce really stole the show. It was so delicious with the pig roast. I would love to come back with another large party to try their other whole animal roasts. Make sure you place reservations in advance!
We started with the cocktail called Swamp Water, it was sweet and minty, and it paired with this charred octopus that muffaletta olives, and romesco sauce. The second cocktail was more tart and was my favorite one of the evening. Now it was time for the gator, which there were two that were gonna be served. the gators were stuffed with chicken, and served buffet style with Caesar salad, Mac & cheese, jambalaya, and skillet veggies. It literally felt like a Thanksgiving Dinner, but at a restaurant. I fixed up a a plate that was loaded with all of the goodies. The Caesar was solid, the Jambalaya had just a tad bit of heat, but you guys have no idea how good that Mac & cheese was. It was so milky, I could’ve had even more if it wasn’t gone. As for the gator, it was smokey and the texture was a combination of chicken and veal in my opinion. I was so happy to finally try smoked gator, but we didn’t stop there. the dessert cocktail was a pumpkin whiskey coffee smash, and a very pronounced flavor of cinnamon. It was with this gooey and warm blood red velvet molten cake.
This is a decent restaurant to eat at. However service was a bit slow getting someone to take our order. The server was still nice and did an decent job helping us. The food was really good, the brussel sprouts were quite delicious. The brisket and grits were cold but the server and management were very apologetic and made everything right. The char grilled oyster were a treat, but the raw oysters were seriously lacking. Attitude goes a long way and the professionalism, and kindness the manager and server exhibited made up for the issues we experienced.
Best experience I had with food in a very long time. Chef Jupiter is an amazing chef and person. The smoke out session had everything you would love in food. Variety of flavors, great presentation, and most important community. You could feel the joy in the room as everyone enjoys the feast that sat in front of them. Every bite was an exploration of the senses that took you on an encredibable journey. I would definitely come here again
This review is for a special event. Frontier hosts a monthly Smokehouse collaboration event. This review is for their event with Chef Zubair of Lilac Tiger and Coach House by WazWan. This is, therefore, a review of the Smokehouse events rather than their standard menu [which I've also tried - its excellent - if you can swing it do a whole animal party and order the wagyu ribs]. The Smokehouse series is a killer deal. It's a Prix Fixe menu with cocktails. Chef Jupiter is amazingly generous with the portions for a multi-course meal. We had essentially a large appetizer plating, two more entrees, and an amazing dessert. Drinks were uneven in delivery timing, but great once we had them. The room is loud, but not painfully so. We could talk at our table without shouting. The stools are flat out uncomfortable, so of you have mobility issues, best to call ahead and see if they can accommodate. Overall a great event. If you see a chance to brag a ticket for a Smokehouse event. Snatch it up.
Have been to two of their special brunch collaborations. If you have never been, I highly recommend it! Two chefs collaborate to bring 4 dishes and some cocktails and everything is always SO good!
What a fun time we had here. Our waitress was wonderful and very helpful in describing the different options on the menu. Food was delicious. Excellent drinks. Would love to have tried all of them. Can't wait to go back!
An extremely strong 4.9 rating!! At the time of my visit, the venison cheesesteak was not available, so ill definitely need to go again. This place is quite unique for game meats. The wild game burger (mix of boar, bison, elk & venison) had that gamey taste but nicely balanced with the sweet diced bacon belly onion jam and tartness of raw red onions. Their fries was excellent too. Wash it down with a pint and your good to go. The bartender was super friendly and attentive!! Looking forward to my next visit.
Welcome to the wild western Frontier. Be forewarned…This is a wild game restaurant with exotic meats. My husband loved the Porterhouse pork chop which looked like it could feed a family of four it was so huge and thick. The bacon apple au Jus was money. He practically licked the plate. It came with duck flavored rice. Again, he almost licked the plate. Sitting on the sidelines watching this debauchery… I ordered the kale apple salad and sipped on an espresso martini. Next time I will be more adventurous with my choice… anything will be fair game.
Loved this place. Very good atmosphere and service. Inside there are a couple of high tables, couches near a fireplace, regular tables and bar, most of it intended to large groups. Lots of TVs showing sport and ok acoustics. We didn't order ahead (so no "whole animal service") and most of us took the burgers. My wife and I ordered the antelope cheesecake, smoked mushrooms, water buffalo burger and the blueberry bread pudding- all we're really good except for the water buffalo who arrived well done 😖.
This was my first time visiting Frontier. We came for the Whole Animal Experience for my nephews birthday. Everything was great! The staff, the atmosphere, and the food were amazing! My nephew selected the🐑. They bring it out and carve it up right in front of you. The meat was so tender and juicy. That Mac & Cheese was absolutely delicious and a crowd fave! We will surely be back.
A table of 5 adults shared the land and sea with dirty rice, burnt ends mac and cheese, fries, 6 oysters, and gator bites. That was plenty of food! Many different tastes for sure! Oh also had the chocolate cake and strawberry banana pudding.
Amazing spot with a cozy, rustic vibe. The menu is adventurous loved the wild game dishes and the smoked carrot salad. Sides are generous and flavorful, and the staff is friendly. Perfect for a fun, memorable meal in Chicago.
I love wild game. Venison is my favorite meat when prepared, and that it was. I order for pickup. Philly venison sandwich and Mac and cheese the Mac & cheese was good as well they forgot to put the meat in it. However they stayed open until I arrived which was 20 minutes after closing time and my food was ready to go.✌️
Stopped by Frontier for brunch with a friend while I was in town. I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, and my friend got the Shrimp & Grits. Both dishes were delicious, and I’d recommend either. The Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich was HUGE and very filling—I just wish it had a bit more heat. Overall, we had a great time catching up. The restaurant was calm and not too loud, the service was excellent, and our server (I wish I remembered his name) was personable and engaging. I’d definitely eat here again.
This place knows how to grill some meat!! The lamb ribs were so flavorful, tender & juicy! They were falling of the bone! The crab cake was so good! I was impressed!
We booked a last-minute brunch reservation at Frontier, and luckily they had plenty of open tables. We each got individual meals, but overall we weren’t too impressed with the food. I had the French toast, which was decent, but if I’d gotten all the toppings, it would’ve been too much for me. The lamb bacon was tasty but overly greasy, so a little less oil would be great. The scrambled eggs were solid but nothing extraordinary. We also tried the bottomless mimosas, and unfortunately, the champagne tasted off. We’ve had André Roger Brut before, and this definitely wasn’t right. Even the pineapple juice tasted watered down. On the bright side, the price point was decent.
Mostly great meal! Everything was good but lamb ribs were almost inedible they were so salty. Otherwise things were delicious.
Funky local spot for an interesting smoked options including whole animal service for a bigger group which was really unique! We also had a casual dinner at the bar one time, unfortunately my stuffed fish was undercooked but the flavors were incredible, they made me a new fish and it was delicious. Definitely recommend this place for a date or group dinner.
Dope set-up here and got a chance to try the Wagyu Ribs they were decent wish they had a little more meat on them but still good 7.9. Normally, I don't do sweets but I got their huge chocolate cake. I couldn't finish it at all, had to get it to go. 8.3. Definitely will hit this spot again the menu is very unique with all its different options. Got another chance to eat here so I tried their chicken sandwich and this sandwich was enormous. But that was about it thou...nothing popped about this sandwich. Flavor-wise kinda mid and dry too... not much in terms of sauce on it either so I asked for ranch to get thru the sandwich. 7.1. Washed things down with their old-fashioned which were excellent no complaints here. I'll try this spot again but may look for recommendations next time. 8.3.
I had the pleasure of connecting with a good friend over a fantastic meal at Frontier. I will start by saying I am not traditionally experimental with my food. However, the unique flavors and blends of food made me excited to return and try some of the other dishes. Furthermore, there is an excellent drink selection and a fantastic staff. Check this place out if you are ever in the area.
Absolutely beautiful. The courtyard is so pretty. The mac and cheese was incredible. I had the beef ribs and they were good but not my favorite ever. Service was good too!
It was very loud when I walked in. Pretty rowdy crowd at the time. Wasn't sure I was in the correct place because it looked more like a bar or tavern than a restaurant. Went upstairs to eat and it was like an oasis! The food was terrific and the service was top notch. We had the alligator this time but would like to try the wild boar next time.
Overall, it was an okay dining experience. The mushroom fritters, wings, and empanada was good. The hummingbird cake was awesome. The octopus was dreadful. The service was below average. The atmosphere is cool though. Overall, the prices are elevated for what you get. Unless I was invited, I would not go back
From the moment you step inside, the decor is absolutely stunning—opulent, inviting, and thoughtfully designed. The aroma wafting through the restaurant is mouth-watering, setting high expectations before the first bite ever arrives. The ambience alone is magnificent and creates an experience that feels special. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the promise of the space. To begin with, the service itself was not the issue. Our waitress was impeccable—friendly, attentive, asked thoughtful questions, and made helpful suggestions. She also explained that dishes would be brought out as they were prepared, which we appreciated, especially since we prefer our food hot. However, that expectation wasn’t met. The crab and shrimp cakes arrived lukewarm, not hot, and it was evident they were not freshly prepared. The texture leaned heavily on filler—more breadcrumbs or binding than actual crab and shrimp. Unfortunately, they were not enjoyable. I ordered the branzino (stuffed bass with crab), and again, the dish arrived not hot and clearly not freshly cooked. The experience was deeply disappointing, to the point that it bordered on unpleasant. We also ordered a side of macaroni and cheese topped with burnt ends. The mac and cheese itself was piping hot and appeared freshly made, which was appreciated. However, the burnt ends on top tasted old and lacked freshness, which took away from the dish. In summary, the ambience and decor were outstanding, and the service was excellent, but the food delivery and freshness fell far short. With such a beautiful setting and strong front-of-house service, it’s unfortunate that the kitchen execution did not match the experience the space promises.
I think for sandwiches, happy hour and drinks, this place is amazing. We had wonderful cocktails and the oysters were great. We love more gamey meat options so we got the trio board to sample a few. There was no distinguishable flavor to anything sadly. The sauces that accompany the board didn’t add anything. The meat was cooked well but needed more than that. Our server was wonderful and the service was great just think it needs a little revamp. I think it’s a great spot just needs some love and to adjust something to entertain the entire pallet.
The menu looked 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 but we unknowingly arrived during brunch.... My sister got the French toast and loved it. My bro in law got the wind and sis they were good. Our friend got something on the menu called pork belly something..... he liked it but was still hungry after. I had the lamb burger it was really good but I didn't love the bbq sauce. We agreed we would come back for dinner to make the final assessment.
Attended a smoke session hosted at Frontier, and while the concept was cool, the execution left much to be desired. The idea of a smoke session intrigued me, but unfortunately, the experience fell short. One major drawback was the temperature of the food – it arrived cold, which was disappointing. The untimely manner in which the items were brought out further impacted the overall enjoyment. The lack of synchronization made it challenging to fully savor each dish. While the idea of a smoke session is innovative, Frontier needs to address the execution to make it a worthwhile and enjoyable experience for patrons.
Not the experience we hoped for, though the manager Aaron did his best to make things right. Another Saturday date night in the city, and unfortunately, this spot didn’t live up to our expectations. The menu is appealing and the venue itself is beautifully designed — but our experience at the bar fell flat. From the moment we sat down, the bartender made us feel like an inconvenience rather than a guest. No greeting, no engagement, and a noticeable attitude that made the entire interaction uncomfortable. The place wasn’t busy, yet it took quite a while for him to check in with us. I asked a couple of simple questions about the whiskey selection, being a fan myself, and his responses were not only unhelpful but delivered with clear disinterest and zero knowledge. Coming from a background in hospitality and customer service myself, I know how important it is to have front-of-house staff — especially bartenders — who are personable and welcoming. My partner shared our concerns with the manager, Aaron , who handled it professionally and respectfully, which we truly appreciated. We’re not ones to write a place off after one bad experience, so we’ll give it another shot. Hopefully, next time lives up to the promise the space and menu suggest.
Frontier seemed to have some interesting wild game on their menu, so we came to explore their brunch on a Saturday, the food selection was alright, but was left very disappointed with the service. Our server, Alina P (according to receipt) was doing the bare minimum to get by. It was also disappointing that gratuity of 20% was already included without giving us much options to adjust for the bad service. We were left unattended at the entrance for a while (even tho the place was far from busy) and weren’t informed of our options for food/drinks while ordering or asked about allergies or restrictions. The food was okay, it was quite salty and there’s a lot of dill in the things we ordered (which we would have preferred to remove if we were asked about allergies/restrictions). The service made us not want to come back.
Went before a show at the UC and the best part was getting street parking right in front. Staff brought the wrong drinks to start with. The empanadas saved the meal as the Wagyu ribs were tepid, grisly and heavy on bone and light on meat. Since we were still hungry, we added in the mushroom appetizer as well and we couldn’t even taste the mushroom. Still not sure there was any in there. Automatically adding in 20% for a tip is garbage as well. Don’t make me take it off.
