Had a great time here for dinner! Everything we got was amazing. Standouts for us were the kerala fried chicken, the chicken curry with appam (definitely order extra!), and the desserts (both the bread pudding and the ice cream bar were excellent, so glad I left room for dessert). The Wednesday special was chaat tater tots with beet ketchup which although not the most adventurous thing on the menu I would definitely get again

Beautiful homie ambiance with delicious authentic kerala food… and there must be quality of the food that we ate so much but yet we were not feeling heavy. The fish in banana leaf was melting in mouth. My least favorite was Biryani… but every thing else was so much flavorful!

I met up here with a friend on a freezing weekday night; the service was very warm and friendly, the drinks were very creative (something I love), and the food was great! The yucca bites and deviled eggs are a must order.

I was really impressed with everything we ate and drank! The mocktails and N/A options were so unique and I’d love to come back and try all of them! The Lunar New Year special was delicious and so was the curry and short rib as well as the mushroom appetizer and yucca bites. The bread pudding was one of the best desserts I’ve had (and it was fun to see that they had Pretty Cool ice cream pops as well). Overall a really fun vibe - the art on the walls was a wonderful touch. This is a great place to come with friends and/or family and share as much as you can! Edited to add it was a great experience the second time I went, too!

My sister recommended this place to us on a whim of wanting to find a good date night spot. I wasn’t sure what to think because this isn’t a region of India I’ve ever tasted. I cannot say enough praises. The atmosphere is so laid back and the music was at a volume where you could actually hear the other person. This place is a no tipping restaurant, so you place orders on your phone, but the staff was still caring and so kind. AND THE FOOD. WOW. So incredibly flavorful and nothing like any other Indian food I’ve had. I’m so ecstatic for the owners of Thattu, they’ve truly opened a gem in Chicago and I wish them nothing but success. Also get the bread pudding and thank me later!! We are so going back very soon!

Hands down some of the best food & best Indian food I’ve ever had. Kothu parotta with beef - 10/10, Chorum Kariyum (fish) - 8.5/10, egg aapam - 9/10, curd rice & potato fry - 8/10, elanchi (jackfruit dessert) - 10/10.

Chef Maria and her husband are the kindest and most generous couple serving some great South Indian flavors. Must try is the chicken wings

Went to Thattu for wife’s birthday and was among the best dinner experiences we’ve had in 2024. Everything we had was superb. We started with the beet puff and the fried chicken bites - chicken was really good with just the right amount of kick. We shared entrees: the pork chop, short ribs and porottas, kadala curry (black chickpeas with coconut gravy), and chicken ghee roast. Dinners were Accompanied with rice, appam (similar to a crepe), and a flaky flatbread that came with the short ribs. The flatbread was worth the visit by itself. Service was great! Ambiance nice. Great experience.

I had the pleasure of dining at Thattu, and it was an absolute delight! We went for dinner and were immediately impressed by the cozy, welcoming ambiance. The restaurant offers a warm, modern take on Kerala’s traditional charm, making it the perfect spot for a casual yet flavorful experience. For appetizers, we tried the Mushroom Mezhukkupurrati and Kappa Bonds. Both were outstanding! The Mushroom Mezhukkupurrati was perfectly spiced, with a rich depth of flavor. The Kappa Bondas were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside—pure comfort food. For the main course, we had the Nadan Kozhi Curry, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was tender and the curry had the right balance of spice and richness, paired beautifully with appams. The service was friendly and attentive, and the staff made sure we had everything we needed. Thattu offers a fantastic blend of authentic Kerala dishes with a contemporary twist, and I can’t wait to return. Highly recommend for anyone looking to explore the flavors of Kerala in Chicago!

I had been wanting to try this place for a long time. Having friends from Kerala, I wanted to experience their food and had heard this was pretty close to authentic. I was delicious. I enjoyed every dish. Plus I found the price point reasonable for the amount of food and experience! $116 with tax for this meal, plus a drink!

I recently visited this restaurant during a work trip. As someone from Kerala living in the US, I was impressed by how well they captured the authentic flavors of my home region. The service and ambiance were excellent, and the food was outstanding. It’s rare to find Malayali cuisine in the US, so I’m thrilled to have found such a great spot. Dishes I would recommend: chorum kariyum, pork chop peralan.

Bottom line: Flavorful, delicious, healthy food. Unexpected, new foods that were expertly prepared. This is a place to come back to. Every expectation I had was blown away with this dinner. The flavors and textures of the food were brilliant. They coursed out our order in the best way possible and really led us through a journey. No frills here, just a staff that really pays attention to what they do and do is spectacularly. I also loved being introduced to a few new foods and new preparations of others. The drinks paired really well and helped to temper the spice forward meal. Big winners were the curry, pork chop, eggplant, and fried plantains. Also, make sure to get the spicy shortbread which comes prepackaged and you can eat it over coffee the next morning. What a delight!

Truly a unique Kerala cuisine in Chicago. The ingredients used set Thattu apart from traditional American-Indian restaurants. The service is different, ordering and paying on your phone, but that did not take away from the attentive service received.

Great breakfast / lunch menu. Out of many items, my favorite were Kothu Porotta (with short ribs!), Madura Appam, Kerala Fried Chicken Bites and ChaaterTots. Can’t forget about their filter coffee! Can’t wait to try their dinner menu.

There's not a single bad thing to say about this place. The food was amazing. The service was great. Their menu, at the time of dining, was 14 items, not including desserts. My party was tempted to order one of everything; however, our eyes were hungrier than our stomachs. We ended up getting 8 of the items which included: Eggplant Theeyal, Mushroom Mezhukkupuratti, Kerala Fried Chicken Bites, Kallumakaya, Chicken Ghee Roast, Meen Pollichathu, Chemmeen & Kappa. For dessert, we ordered the Bread Pudding a la mode and Chakka Rice Cake. For my personal favorites, the Meen Pollichathu and Chemmeen & Kappa. The Chicken Ghee Roast was delicious; however, I don't tend to prefer chicken as my choice of protein for dinner entrees. Unfortunately, since I dined in on a Sunday, they didn't have their Short Rib dish available (Fridays and Saturdays only). If you have not been, I highly recommend going.

Really enjoyed the Black Chickpea Curry and Kerala Fried Chicken Bites! So many reviews mentioned this appetizer and for good reason- they were so flavorful, moist and great amount of heat to the rub. We (group of 3) showed up on a Friday evening about 6:15pm without a reservation. The host (possibly owner?) was very nice and said it would be about 20-30 mins if we wanted to wait by the couch and have a drink. We opted to wait and it was only 10-15 mins. Next time I would make a reservation since the place was packed! Just a head’s up, this isn’t traditional service like most restaurants. You order through your phone through a QR code on the table. You have the option to put in separate orders (per phone and individual) which results in separate checks if that’s what you want, but the food isn’t guaranteed to come out together. We did it that way and this wasn’t a problem since we all shared dishes and small bites. The food was so delicious and flavorful!! I have never tried Indian food so I am not sure if it is authentic or not- I noticed a few pretty condescending reviews about recipe and ingredient authenticity- I would say, expect high impact flavors, spice and flavorful layers in each scrumptious bite! I will definitely go back. Service was prompt and friendly! I also read they get paid a flat hourly rate of $24 an hour since tipping is not an option when you pay with credit card. A great find!!! I recommend it for a date or group of friends on a Friday night.

There is a really good vibe at this place, completely tip-free, quick service, and good food. Fish in banana leaf was the table favorite followed by the coconut ice-cream. The other dishes were great but it's not like I am gonna come back for them. Go in with an easy opinion and you will not be disappointed.

The Kerala-inspired flavors at Thattu were truly remarkable and left us thoroughly impressed. While most dishes were small bites, the portions added up quickly and were surprisingly filling. We especially enjoyed the eggplant theeyal and Kerala fried chicken, both of which were outstanding appetizers. We did find the Meen Pollichathu a bit underwhelming, as the seasoning fell a bit flat and the tilapia didn't absorb as much flavor as we had hoped. Nonetheless, it was an overall fantastic dining experience with plenty of flavorful delights.

9.5/10!! Loved this restaurant, each dish was unique, incredibly flavorful and perfectly balanced. The atmosphere is cute and inviting, and we loved the simple QR code ordering system that streamlined service. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Been wanting to try this Southern Indian spot for a while, and it didn't disappoint! Loved almost everything we ordered, and the flavors were even better than we expected! The restaurant is clean and cozy, and our server was super friendly and knowledgeable, explaining all the dishes really well. What We Tried: Kappa Banda (3/5): Cute fried yucca balls, but not much flavor. Mushroom Mezhukkupuratti (5/5): This was amazing--full of flavor with tons of spices. Kerala Fried Chicken Bites (5/5): Crispy outside, tender inside, and perfectly spiced. Definitely ordering this again! Short Rib & Porottas (4/5): Only available on Friday and Saturday, this was tender and really comforting. Meen Pollichathu (4/5): The fish was buttery with just the right amount of spice. Most of their dishes are "gluten-free", which was a big plus for us! We can't wait to go back and try more of their unique, flavorful Southern Indian dishes. If you're into bold flavors, give this place a shot!

Everything we ate was amazing! Our server gave us great recs for what to order and how much to order. Thattu is a tipless restaurant but it seems you can leave cash if you'd like. They have the menu QR codes on the table and you make and run a Toast Tab on your phone to order. Everything was pretty spicy as expected so I recommend the yogurt dipping sauce side.

I don’t even know where to start with this review, but my friend and I had Thattu on our list to try as soon as they opened. We finally made it in today and wow. Everything was incredibly delicious and beautiful. I loved the artwork and the overall vision the owners’ have for the place. I can’t decide my favorites, but we essentially ordered the whole menu and nothing disappointed.

I've experienced and eaten a lot of Indian food but this is the only place I've ever seen that serves Kerala cuisine and it's fantastic. We had the Chili Paneer Puff, the Fried Chicken bites, Theeyal Salad, Kadala Curry, Meen Pollichathu, Beef Fry & Porottas and an Appam. All were excellent with the most unique item the Appam, it was slightly sweet and so light and fluffy and paired well with the curry, and then my favorite being the Meen Pollichathu or the Beef Fry & Porottas. Both of those were unlike anything I'd have before with the Beef Fry being a cross between Beef Rendang and Cumin Beef while the fish was moist and paired with the tomato and coconut perfectly. The atmosphere was very laid back and casual and felt almost like you were eating in your grandma's kitchen. Perfect for a date night or going out with a group of friends. I would go back here anytime and would recommend to all especially if you've had more traditional Indian cuisine that you find in Chicago as this is very different from all of them.

One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. They get extra points for adding modern twists to southern Indian classics. The food is excellent quality and totally worth the price. Reservations are recorded and arrive a bit early to find parking. The Kadala Curry with Appam is delicious. I liked all their appetizers as well. Ordering is easy with the QR code. Definitely a must-go if you are in Chicago.

Thattu is easily one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. The food is vibrant, soulful, and incredibly fresh — you can taste the care in every dish. The Theeyal Salad deserves a special shout-out. It’s genuinely one of a kind: the deep, roasted coconut-tamarind flavors of theeyal paired with crisp, bright greens in a way that feels both inventive and comforting. I’ve never had a salad like this anywhere. But choosing a favorite dish is impossible because the kappa bonda was just as outstanding — warm, delicate, perfectly seasoned, and the kind of thing you instantly crave again. It’s a very close tie between the bonda and the salad! Another detail I loved: everything is made fresh in-house, down to the beet ketchup, which was so good it deserves its own fan club. And to top it all off, the chef was so kind — she surprised us with her masala biscuits on the house !!! Such a thoughtful gesture that made the experience feel even more special. Warm service, thoughtful food, and a menu full of surprises. Thattu is a gem — can’t wait to come back.

Very cosy restaurant with delicious food and attentive staff. Definitely reminds you of Kerala with home styled portions and a rotating seasonal menu. Kerala fried chicken and masala deviled eggs were delicious. Appams are delicious, large in size and the Malabar biryani, shrimp and fish entrees are must have. Forbidden payasam is unique, not too sweet, and a great way to finish off the meal.

Great food. We started with the kerala fried chicken bites which was crunchy and flavourful. Then we ordered beef fry & porottas and meen pollichathu along with a couple of beers. Although both dishes were tasty, we enjoyed the beef and porotta more. We finished the night off with a filter coffee and the masala biscuit!

The food at Thattu is stunning and impressive! Standout dishes for us were actually two small plates/sides: the Kerala Fried Chicken Bites and Potato Poriyal. Both were absolutely full of wonderful flavors and textures clearly inspired by more traditional offerings. Just FYI this place is still semi self-service but you are now expected to tip. We heard it was tough to keep servers around with the old model of all-in pricing. There was enough staff to help us out when we had questions, but you place your order on your phone. The food was so delicious, we didn’t mind this model.

We had a wonderful experience at Thattu! The food was absolutely relishing—seasoned with just the right level of spices so you could truly taste and enjoy each flavor. We tried their non-alcoholic drinks, and they were spot on, refreshing, flavorful, and not overloaded with sugar. And last but definitely not least, the bread pudding was the most delicious I’ve ever had. The environment was simple, elegant, and welcoming. Overall, a beautiful blend of authentic taste and a comfortable dining atmosphere. Highly recommend!

This place deserves a long review. The vibe is homely and cozy. The servers are extremely nice, know everything about the dishes and make the whole experience a worth while. The decor is very personal showcasing the chef’s clicks from Kerala. Best dishes were fried chicken and the mushrooms. The chicken kurma could be more spicy but it was flavourful. Please come in if you haven’t yet

Thattu has introduced me to one of my new favorite cuisines. Every dish, dessert, and drink I’ve had left me wanting more. Highlights for me have been the variety of seafood dishes and the beef fry. I am excited to try new dishes as they rotate through the seasons. The atmosphere also feels warm and welcoming. At first it seems overly casual, but the staff are very helpful and the dining room has big bright windows. You can feel comfortable eating there family style or solo. Highly recommend for those wanting to try the fresh, bright flavors of Kerala!

We walked in for dinner on a week day and were seated immediately. While the food was good, it did not accurately reflect the spiciness that is associated with Kerelan cuisine. The Kerala fried chicken bites were fried well: crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Already delicious on their own, they were even better when paired with the cumin-forward yogurt sauce and vibrant pickles. The highlight of the meal was hands down the Keralan pork chop: tender, juicy, and seared to a beautiful crisp with bold, well-developed flavors throughout. The meen pollichathu was coated in a rich, aromatic masala paste and steamed to a pleasant softness, though it could have used a touch more salt. We also got a side of appam that could only be ordered with a staff. This was disappointing as it arrived cold, lacked the tang of properly fermented batter, tasted bland with only faint coconut notes, and had an uneven texture with half thin and the other overly thick.

I have heard from friends that this restaurant is famous representing southern Indian food. And it is hard to book an appointment. When I got the appointment slot, I am so excited to try. We ordered the mushroom appetizer( which is the highlight of the whole experience), ribs( only two chunks of meat and extremely salty, I like flavoring food but even for me I can barely eat it alone), the fish ( I was looking for more flavor so a little disappointed about that). Overall, I like the environment and the setup of the restaurant and found the no tip setup interesting. But the food is not as good as I have hoped for.

Finding authentic South Indian cuisine in Chicago is a challenge. Thattu is a welcome addition to the Indian food scene, offering a delightful diversity of flavors. We started with the Mushroom & Kerala Fried Chicken as an appetizer and the Fish (Meen Pollichathu) and Pork Chop for our entrees. The Fish was a standout dish, while the Mushroom was a pleasant surprise. However, there’s room for improvement in some of the other dishes. They offer table service, but you order through a QR code. The menu prices are all-inclusive, which sounds unusual but feels fair. There’s no service charge, and they don’t accept tips!

I am super excited to write this review. I'm giving it 4 stars because of very minute details but overall, I think this has been added to my regular places to go for sure. None of us have had any experience with Keralan food so this was a first but nothing to compare it to. The fried chicken. HANDS DOWN, some of the BEST fried chicken I've had. Mildly spiced, crispy to just the right amount on the outside to give it a light crunch but JUICY on the inside. The flavor and texture was AMAAAAAAAZING. I joked to my wife telling her, watch out, I might be out for an affair with this chick LOL The egg curry was heavenly. Lightly spiced so the flavors were really coming out. The appam that came with it was so delicate yet so flavorful. We ended up ordering this dish twice, we liked it so much. We got 1 parippu vada. The 3 out of the 4 people loved it. I liked the flavor but I felt the exterior could be about 10% less crispy but that's 1 against 4. The chaater tots were probably the least liked. It felt like regular tater tots with hardly any masala on it and the beet dip didn't do it. There is a LOT of potential for this side but it's not there yet in my opinion. We also ordered a vegetarian thali. While we knew the chick peas curry would be made of tamarind, we didn't expect it to be this tart. (The sour/tart flavor is probably the only flavor profile I have a tough time with so for me, this was an absolute no no). 2 of the 4 people usually like tart things but this was tart for their liking too. The egg appam. WOW. The kaapi.. Again, nothing not to look about it. Now the experience. This was a little different/modern experience for the process and I thought it was SO COOL. With the exception to the staff bringing out the food and clearing the table, for the most part everything else is self service. You get your own water (Indian style in steel glasses.....I LOVED IT), get your own silverware, etc. You PLACE YOUR OWN order by scanning the QR code at the table specific to your table. Super easy way to just split the bills....each person can scan their own code and place their own order. No fuss. And check this. THEY DO NOT ACCEPT TIPS. I thought this was an absolutely BRILLIANT idea. It works. While the place was about a half full, I think there were only 2 people who were actually bringing the food out so this method definitely does bring the efficiency into place. While I have mixed feelings about the fact that there is no person taking the actual order (no way to really ask questions per se, know more about the restaurant, etc.....no human interaction), I think the new system works. I just have to get used to it (and honestly am glad to). The menu needs work. There was a little inconsistencies in the printed menu we got vs what they had online where we had to order. Menu consistency is important. I think Thattu is a well thought out concept for a casual dining experience that while with inflation having taken place does have slightly higher prices than I am used to (I'm talking 3 to 5 years ago prices), I will happily come again for various reasons: - While there is no formal order taking, the staff did come to greet us, help us since this was the first time, answered questions, gave suggestions, etc. - The no tipping policy. Guys, I'm in no way a cheap stake but am human. I've seen $10 things go up to $20 and then places add a 3 to 5% charge on top of that with tiny print saying things like 'this pays for the health insurance needs for staff', etc. which is just BS in my opinion and then ask you to pay a tip (now a days 18% start is standard and some shameless joints go as high as 35%).....I'm a bit tired. Plus Thattu just removed the fact that I have to 'think' of how much to tip. - No sneaky way of coming up with the machine to take your card and then ask for a tip (which by the way some places doing that calculate the tip for the whole bill! INCLUDING the tax) Lastly, I wish I was able to 'rent' 2 more stomachs as I wanted to try so much more.

Solid spot for some nice Kerala based food. The menu has some authentic items from the coastal state although the taste of the food is kinda Americanized. The alcohol selection is amazing. The decor is excellent and has a native touch. Service was outstanding for a busy weekend brunch. Highly recommend the ada payasam.

Great food! The flavors are really good and as close to authentic as one could find in the city. There is a limited menu which is probably different during lunch and dinner. We had lunch and ordered quite a few things just because we were excited and wanted to try as many dishes. The portion sizes are however smaller but the quality and presentation makes up for it! The cocktails are also really good!

I finally made an online reservation at Thattu for dinner after hearing about it for so long, and surprisingly we were able to get a table for the same night. The restaurant is located on Fletcher Avenue and when we walked in we were seated pretty fast. I had imagined the place to be a little bigger, but even though it was small it felt cozy, comfortable, and nicely put together. The decor immediately stood out because of all the South Indian inspired artwork and touches that made the space feel warm and authentic. It reminded me of the kind of homely charm you find in Kerala style eateries, and it set a really nice tone for the evening. We started the meal with a set of appetizers that included kappa bonda, chilli paneer puffs, masala deviled eggs and kallumakaya. The masala deviled eggs were the highlight among the starters with a great balance of flavor and spice. The chilli paneer puffs and kappa bonda were both good and enjoyable. The kallumakaya, which are mussels, had a very strong seafood taste. My wife liked it more than I did because I am not a huge fan of that deep ocean flavor, so for me it was not as appealing. For drinks we went with the kokum sharbat and the ginger cooler. Both were non alcoholic but extremely refreshing. The kokum sharbat in particular was spectacular with a bright, tangy taste that immediately stood out. It felt like the perfect drink to go with the meal. We originally wanted to order the Malabar Bone In Goat Biryani but unfortunately it was already sold out by the time we ordered. So I ended up getting the Malabar Chicken Biryani and my wife ordered the Chemmeen and Kappa. Presentation wise the Chemmeen and Kappa looked beautiful and vibrant, but the combination did not work well for her taste. On the other hand the chicken biryani turned out to be the best biryani I have had in a very long time. The flavors were deep and rich and every grain of rice had absorbed the spices perfectly. It tasted like something you would get in a traditional Kerala home. For dessert we ordered the Forbidden Payasam and the Naadan Falooda. The falooda was truly amazing, one of the best I have had. It paired surprisingly well with the payasam and together they made for a great ending to the meal. Finally I have to mention the service because the staff was incredibly warm, friendly and knowledgeable. They explained the dishes in detail and even though we are from South India ourselves there were ingredients and combinations they talked about that we had not heard of. Their passion for the food really showed in how they talked about it. Overall Thattu turned out to be a really good experience with great food, great service and a homely, authentic vibe. I definitely plan to go back again, hopefully next time to try their sadhya if they have it available.

My friends and I have been meaning to try Thattu for ages! The food was really good! Unfortunately the service was disappointing. Thattu brands itself as an upscale place but you have to order off a QR code, and you don’t have an assigned server. There are servers milling around in case you do need something, but they weren’t knowledgeable about the menu. I specifically asked if we should order family-style and share or each order our own entree. The server told us most people order family style, but the portion sizes were SMALL, not suitable for sharing, so none of us felt like we ordered enough to eat. We would have ordered more if she had recommended 1 entree per person. Another example is that we ordered the deviled eggs and it only came with 3 eggs and we were a party of 4. If we had had a server taking our order we would have been made aware of this and either ordered an extra or asked for 1 additional egg, but you can’t ask a QR code for menu modifications. For me, service is a huge part of what I’m paying for when eating out at a nicer restaurant, and I wish they would change their model, hire 1 more server per shift, and run it like a restaurant instead of a counter-serve. I did tip at the end, but what was I tipping for? Not service.

Thattu is a nice add to modern South Indian restaurants in Chicagoland. There is a couple of vegetarian options in the menu- puff, bonda and mushroom options. We had the cudala curry with appam which was also tasty. All orders had to be placed through an app and there’s no options for tips although the staff was super friendly. Overall I wish there was more options on the menu for vegetarians but it was a great one time experience

Food was ok. There was a lot of warmth and heat in the dishes and not so much what I would consider flavor. The Kerala fried chicken bites were pretty good and definitely the standout. The kappa bonda fried yucca balls were OK—not a lot of flavor but the onion tamarind on top helped. Kadala curry and the chettinad pepper chicken were both decent, but again, warm spices over flavor here too. Also be aware it feels more “fast casual” since they don’t really have a traditional wait staff. You don’t really talk with a server ever. All food and drink is ordered through a QR code online and when you are done you pay the bill online and just leave the restaurant. For a place with unique cuisine for the area and is slightly more upscale, I would prefer sitting down and actually having a waiter to interact with more. But others may not mind. It’s too “in and out” for me.

Having grown up in a Kerala household and eating homemade food from many Kerala households, I had high hopes for Thattu. However the flavors didn’t come through for the standard dishes I tried. I went for an early lunch on the weekend. I tried the Chicken Ghee Roast with an appam. Appam is supposed to have a noticeable fermented taste but this one didn’t. Also the Chicken Ghee Roast turned out to be small pieces of chicken (maybe chicken breast) in a tangy gravy. This wasn’t what I was expecting from the name - I thought it would be seasoned chicken, perhaps on the bone, nicely roasted and then stewed in a deep onion or coconut milk based gravy. Instead the gravy tasted like it was yogurt based, which is not any Kerala chicken curry I’ve ever tasted. The flavors were off - the appam had no tang and the chicken curry did. I also ordered the dosa stack that’s available at brunch. This too was disappointing. The dosa were thick - more like an uttapam without the usual toppings - and unevenly cooked. The tomato chutney tasted like only stewed tomato with no seasoning. The sambar was the texture of daal but with the lentils not cooked enough. There were no chunks of vegetables that are usually present in a good sambar. Overall there were no deep flavors developed in either of the dishes, nor the complementary flavors from accompanying items that Kerala cuisine does so well. It’s possible that the dinner menu is better executed than the brunch/lunch menu but this visit isn’t motivating me to try again.

It was actually pretty disappointing... One of the most traditional food in kerala is Beef Fry and Parota, which in their menu describe in a similar fashion. The beef fry tasted good and a little close to being authentic but the texture was way off. This was a little saucy/pastey/wet and had smaller pieces than what you would notice in an authentic one. The Parota was god awful. It did not have flaver and more than anything it was so dry!! Never had a parotta so bad. The Espresso Martini though, was one of the best ones I had, great taste!

M
Maria Simpson

The flavors are there but all of our food came out cold. It was not very busy, we were there at 5 PM on a Saturday, and there were tons of empty tables so we were confused as to how everything was cold. Service was fine, they use toast to order, so you don’t order with a server, but a server does walk you through the menu when you sit down.

Honest Review: Is the food good? Yes, it’s delicious. How big is the portion size? Enough for 1 person with a small appetite, not really family sharing friendly. Would I come here again? Ehhhh idk, there are better places out there for the price you pay for the food. For example, I went to a Korean gastropub the other day with like 25 people and paid like 400 for everything and the portions were huge and delicious. I paid 200 here for 4 people and it was good and the portions were decent. Food presentation is alright, you think the price you pay the food would be one of a kind but it seems pretty straight forward. Like the TatorTots you order, it has a ring and a cool name, you figured “oh they probably did something cool with the tatortots, let’s try it” come to find out it’s regular tatortots with just a different seasoning and the price is the same as a subway sandwich. Good Things about it: The Old Fashion was pretty interesting, love the drink options there. The food there like I said is delicious but questionable in a majority of things. Overall: If you want to try this restaurant, I recommend this place, the chef is really talented and creative but it’s pricey. If you had money to spend then yes give it a try, if you are really hungry and are expecting a large meal, make sure you order twice of every dish. Their payment system is very friendly when it comes to splitting the bill.

Mediocre experience with bare-minimum ambience. The food is overpriced and failed to meet the hype built up by reviews and the staff. They promise a unique, nostalgic take on Indian cuisine but do not deliver. The food looked good visually, but the taste fell flat with completely imbalanced flavors.

I went to Thattu for their New Year’s Eve Sadya, really hoping for a warm, traditional Kerala experience—especially since it was priced at a premium and paid for in advance. Some of the items were decent in taste, but unfortunately the service overshadowed everything else. With four of us at the table, items were either missed or significantly delayed, which meant we had to keep asking for almost everything, without ever being told what the full menu was. The rice, central to any Sadya and meant to be enjoyed with every dish was undercooked. Overall, the service felt inattentive and impersonal, giving the impression that once everything was prepaid, there was little incentive to be attentive or generous with what was served. For a New Year’s Sadya, better service, care, and hospitality would have made all the difference.

Very Disappointed – Not Real Kerala Food We drove a long way after hearing about Thattu, expecting real Kerala food. But it was a huge letdown. We ordered Malabar beef and porotta and Malabar chicken biryani. The beef fry was the worst we’ve ever had—dry, tasteless, and we couldn’t eat even one piece. The biryani had no flavor and felt more like fried rice. Later, we were shocked to hear the chef is Korean. Nothing against that, but how can someone cook authentic Kerala food without knowing the cuisine? The only Kerala things we saw were the Malayalam name and a few decorations. To the owner: Please learn what real Kerala food is. Don’t mislead people with Kerala names and decor if the food doesn’t match. Think about hiring someone who actually knows the cuisine. Not worth the price or the drive.

South Indians especially from Tamil Nadu or Karnataka or Andhra should never visit this place as it is definitely not curated for our taste buds. We had appam with chicken kurma - and the appam was super thick, I almost felt like eating a deep dish pizza. Next the short rib and parotta was very disappointing. Parotta was frozen and not freshly made. Short ribs was super oily and salty , no human should consume this much salt and oil. The only good thing about this place was the bonda appetizer and it was good. We felt like we paid an exorbitant price for this food.

My experience at Thattu was, without a doubt, one of the worst I've ever had at a restaurant. While the evening started with a glimmer of hope, it ended in utter disrespect. We had a member in our party with severe nut and chickpea allergies. Understanding the limitations, we brought a separate meal for them and asked the staff if it would be okay for them to eat with us. To our pleasant surprise, they kindly agreed. Unfortunately, this gesture was completely undermined by what happened next. Let's talk about the food. For the price, the quality was mediocre at best, and the portion sizes were abysmal. The flavors were so bland and uninspired that we found ourselves trying to salvage a dish by pairing it with a couple of tortilla chips from our friend's allergy-safe meal. This simple act prompted a man, who we believe was the owner and had been drinking at the front, to storm over to our table. He began yelling at us in an incredibly disrespectful and aggressive manner for sharing a few chips. To be publicly berated and taunted after spending over $200 for a party of six was shocking and humiliating. We felt singled out, and we can only speculate why the owner felt he could treat us with such contempt. Regardless of the reason, no paying customer should ever be subjected to such behavior. This wasn't just bad service; it was a display of utter disrespect. Save your money and your dignity, and dine elsewhere.
