We had a great pregame meal for the Blackhawks tonight! Kristina M. Took great care of us in a very busy setting and the food was amazing!

Very cool vibe. Loved all the dogs in there. Great service! Back for brunch! biscuits and gravy were fantastic! She did not skimp on the bottomless mimosas. Right there with the next one every time. Also, should mention the great TV set up for football/sports.

We came here for Sunday brunch, the food is DELICIOUS! The chicken pot pie and the barrel club are two must try!! Service is great, attentive and quick. The bartenders are insanely quick. Staff are all so attentive and bubbly.

Went Saturday morning for brunch and it was nice. Coffee based drinks were stronger than I thought. Also got the Paloma and it was delicious. Ate the salmon and kimchi on the summer menu and it was also great. Kimchi has a great spice heat to it without being too lingering and salmon glaze was perfect. The mussels were the star of the show. So good. Only wish I had more bread to eat with the sauce. Can’t wait to come back and try more things on the menu

My hubby and I were here for the weekend getaway from Dallas and flew in Friday and found this place. Food and service was so good to our liking and ended up going there 2 days in a row but a total of 3 times. Madeline served our table Friday when we had lunch and dinner there. We sat on the patio on 2 of our visits. Very nice at night. Will definitely return on our next trip to Chicago.

I came here with a group of 9 for brunch on Sunday. We had a reservation, and they sat us and took drink orders right away. The atmosphere of the bar and dining area is a good balance of cozy, modern, and laid-back. Really good vibes here overall. The food and drinks were fantastic. Everyone was very happy with their orders. I had the chilaquiles w/ chorizo which I absolutely loved. The homemade tortilla chips were incredible and I can honestly say this may be the best chilaquiles I've had. My first drink was a "cold fashion", a brunch-style old fashion with cold brew liquor. It made for a nice first drink of the day after having coffee. What really compelled me to write this review right away was the service. From making a reservation all the way through the end of our visit, the service was top notch. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they all seem to work together very well. Drinks and food were quick and made perfectly every time. Our server Gloria R was phenomenal. She was very friendly and expertly took care of our group of 9 with ease. Gloria R was a great help deciding what to order, as my brother and I wanted to order the entire menu. She used a combo of chef's recommendations, her experience, and our preferences to guide us which I always appreciate. We will definitely be coming back here soon and cannot recommend this place enough! Sitting there watching burgers get delivered had me ready to order one even after I ate. We will be returning for that asap!

Don't get me wrong, I definitely miss beer bistro. But the place has great food and great service!

We had the best experience at Black Barrel Tavern- West Loop. Upon arrival with a party of 8 (we did not make a reservation) we were seated almost immediately- the restaurant was very busy so this was a welcome surprise! Once seated at our table (4 adults, 4 kids) the staff immediately (and unprompted) brought water, apple juice boxes for the kids, fruit and bread to the table. The food was delicious and although the wait for our food didn’t seem long, the wait staff apologized many times and even gave us a discount. We appreciated this but felt it was not necessary because it wasn’t long at all AND we didn’t even have to say anything - they just appreciated our patience. Overall amazing experience, delicious food and great atmosphere! Highly recommend!!!

Excellent hospitality and atmosphere Everything on the menu is delicious. Wait, servers were very consistent on checking on tables. Must visit this place as it is now on my first choice to go eat and have drinks!

Excellent drinks, quick service decent prices. All the house drinks are good, best imop is the RYE 'N REYNOLDS. Fresh take on old fashioned. Love the decor including the belt driven fans.

What a fun & lively place! We popped in for lunch and sat at the bar. We had the tuna tacos & kale salad with grilled chicken. Both were SO tasty & had great presentation. The bread and cinnamon/sugar butter were SO delicious too. Linda at the bar took great care of us.

Great West Loop Tavern. Running review: Had the tasty tuna again, family enjoyed a burger and tacos. Food never disappoints. Sometimes the music is too loud, competing with the crowd noise and acoustics to talk comfortably with those at the table. Of course outside seating would have been my choice if available. Jose held its opening together during the pandemic and still going strong! Had the Tuna and Red Velvet cake, would have preferred the cake with out the sauce dribbles… People & animal friendly, good tap beer selection, menu variety. Different seating areas in & outside, small bar area downstairs. Accessible rest area.

Delicious brunch! Really good service! I came here for a solo brunch after church. I spent $40 and it was well spent. I ordered the traditional French toast with just strawberries, a single scrambled egg, breakfast potatoes and sausage. They didn’t have any mocktails or curated non-alcoholic beverages, but the bar made me a strawberry lemonade and added tonic water and it was tasty! The service was good, I was able to come right in and get seated. The server was attentive and answered all my questions. Here’s what I loved: the French toast were really good without syrup. They didn’t need syrup they were that tasty. The breakfast potatoes and the eggs were cooked to perfection. The sausage wasn’t my favorite. The sausage have kind of a tough exterior and soft inside. I wasn’t used to that and didn’t like that very much. I’d definitely come back in the future and recommend this restaurant. Their patio was great. I sat outside on a 75 degree day. It was perfect!! The ambiance is pretty casual inside, but still nice and clean. A great place for brunch in the west loop!

The service was super fast and the food was good! Love any restaurant that gives you bread! They have lots of specials along with a large regular menu. Lots of meat and seafood but there are a couple vegetarian options!

The food and service at black Barrel was fantastic! We are so glad we happened across this Tavern. The Buratta was the only way to get this meal started. Everything from Filet sliders to the grilled cheese was flavorful. It was a great dining experience for the last night of our trip to Chicago.

5-8-24 Excellent! Stopped here for lunch and it was a great decision! The food is top notch! Service was great! Atmosphere is awesome! Prices are very fair for the quality! Parking can be a challenge but it is what it is... You know where you're at.

Fantastic food and service! Emma (our server) was delightful, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and just genuinely nice! We shared the burata appetizer, had a couple of glasses of wine, and shared the prime rib sandwich with Brussels! Everything was yummy! We will definitely go back!

Great service and surprisingly accommodating for groups with kids. The food was well-portioned and flavorful.

The food and staff were really great. The best part was the mashed potatoes, and the worse part was my boyfriend eating half of my cheesecake. Definitely a great place with a really nice atmosphere. Lots of televisions, high and low tables, and seatings for small groups as well as a date. As for the drinks, unfortunately I'm not a drinker, but there was quite a large selection to choose from - so there's no worries.

Food was delicious. Burger was excellent. Juicy and fresh. The grilled salmon had a very nice smoky flavour and it was very fresh.

Great food, service, and cozy atmosphere. Will be back next time. The classic burger was great, and the pickles were sweet, which I like.

Do I have a bone to pick with these guys! I asked them for the ‘second’ best burger in Chicago, but every single time I order it, they give me the Best one in the entire city! It is the BEST DAMN BURGER I HAVE EVER HAD. The quality of ingredients they use, it speaks volumes! 5/5. The service is impeccable, better, warmer and more courteous after each visit! It feels like a second home, a true neighborhood gem, and the drinks, OMG the drinks! This is starting to sound like a paid promotion but I promise you it’s not 😂 Definitely check out “Black Barrel Tavern” if you’re visiting Chicago or are in the neighborhood! Cheers!

Went twice in one day. Drinks were good. Food was also good. Had the poutine and it was delicious . The burrata was also good. I drank the house margarita with tajin rim. My husband had a Basil Hayden old fashioned and he like that as well.

We had delicious drinks and desserts here. I got pistachio gelato, it was creamy and good quality gelato. I like the cozy, clean, chill atmosphere.. Our waitress was good, she was fast, attentive, and friendly. We will come back to try other food.

I don’t write a ton of restaurant reviews but when it’s this good pics and a review are needed. Came here last minute after plans fell through and it was so good!! The pricing is relatively cheap and what you’d expect at a bar. The food- phenomenal! Didn’t just taste like bar food. I have the chicken sandwich and my boyfriend had the prime rib sandwich. We both loved what we ordered. I’m very picky when it comes to chicken sandwiches and this has to be in my list of top three I’ve had in Chicago. I also love coleslaw and the coleslaw was very rich and creamy. The fries were also great as they weren’t salty and just right. My boyfriend said he really like the prime rib sandwich also. I’d absolutely recommend this place in a heartbeat and will be back

First experience at Black Barrel Tavern after an amazing time at EDC Beyond Wonderland 🐰. Thank you Ashlee and Adam 👏 for taking us to this great Chicago spot! The drinks were delicious, strong (I remember a comment about the espresso martini was so strong, a great wake me up!), and the atmosphere was relaxed with a great selection of food items on their menu. The manager and staff of the Black Barrel Tavern were so friendly, welcoming, while also providing great customer service. The Black Barrel Tavern an incredible place to wind down, chill, and take in the refreshing brisk wind of Chicago. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The food never missed here! Tons of great options always. The chilaquiles and omelette were incredible. Would definitely come back and could not highly recommend this spot enough.

Great selection of casual American food, including burgers, pastas, meats, salads, and more! The service was great and both outdoor/indoor seating. The black barrel burger was delicious and juicy. Ahi tuna club sandwich was a unique blend of turmeric and cumin seasonings. Overall would highly recommend for a casual, quick meal!

Came for the Thursday $20 rib special and it was so good and such a good deal. Also came specifically to watch the Dodger game and the owner came by with such a warm welcome. We also got the pretzel, and it's a simple pretzel but it was so delicious - served warm with a cheese and mustard dip. I love that they allow dogs here. The vibe was great and was poppin on a Thursday night.

We love this place and make it a point to eat here whenever we visit Chicago. The food is amazing, and the service is top notch. Very dog friendly which we love. We have ordered up and down the menu and have not had a bad dish. My favorite is the Nashville chicken.

From the moment we walked in this place, You could tell these people put love in their food. The bathrooms were super clean , and the wait staff were really friendly; Some of the best Homemade French Fries I’ve ever had… you could really notice that they were made from scratch! The House Burger was amazing! My girlfriend is vegetarian, and she Really loved her plant based burger as well. Highly recommend this place.

Black Barrel Tavern is a true staple in the West Loop for classic bar food done right. The menu has all the favorites—generous portions, great flavor, and the kind of comfort food you can always count on. What really sets this place apart is the ownership. George, the owner, is extremely personable and makes you feel welcome every time you walk in. The atmosphere is friendly, laid-back, and even pet-friendly, which makes it one of the most inviting neighborhood spots around. A perfect place to enjoy good food, great service, and a genuine community vibe

The service was amazing. Drinks came quick, appetizers were quick with the entrees coming basically as soon as we finished our appetizers. Wait staff were super friendly and it was clear that they were all able to help and rely on each other to keep thing running smoothly.

We love this place. We order take out from here and still try to go dine in as much as we can. The Brunch menu is fantastic. We had the biscuits and gravy and it has to be the best in the West Loop. They are super kid friendly and provide fruits at the table, menus for coloring, fun take home cups, and kid-friendly meal options. Salads are fresh and delicious as well!

Solid brunch with many options. The breakfast tacos and burrito weren’t that extraordinary but I enjoyed our meal overall. Corn tortillas weren’t fresh, it could’ve used more seasoning overall, but I liked the guacamole. I liked the atmosphere especially, but was annoyed that the servers kept trying to take away our food and plates prematurely. I think if I were to come back I’d get the lunch food over the breakfast food, it looks more appetizing.

No complaints here! We came in for a late lunch and the food was great!! Had the tacos and southwest egg-rolls as an app. The tacos are amazing!! I had the steak with a side of green beans which were both great… cooked perfectly and the green beans had great flavor. I can see why they are known for their burger …. GREAT BURGER!!! Cocktails were good!! Will definitely go again when back in the area!!

Really lovely spot! Their outdoor seating area was quaint and comfortable. Very dog friendly, lots of people with their dogs and it looks like the restaurant even provides dog bowls for their four legged patrons. The staff was super friendly and the service was shockingly fast. We were seated and the hostess explained that they just got a big rush of people so we expected to have to wait a long time for food but the food came out very quickly and was all delicious. They did bring out bread for the table at the same time that our food came, although I think the bread was supposed to come sooner. The bread came with some pink butter that I assume was maybe strawberry butter except the flavor wasn’t very noticeable other than just being sweeter than normal butter. The biggest disappointment was the crispy brussel sprouts that were not crispy at all, not even the bacon bits were crispy, and the whole thing was absolutely drenched in oil (or maybe it was bacon fat?) to the point where the bottom quarter inch of the dish was just a puddle of grease. The lettuce for the salad also tasted un-washed which was off putting. Other than that, the food was delicious and the staff was super friendly so I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Lively vibes. Almost every table was full. Decent space and friendly staff, we just popped in for a quick bite. I didn't like the sauce that came my crab cakes. I got the Midwest Crab Cakes - they were good, but different. BBT is worth checking out. there were kids there, so I'd say BBT is family friendly. I'd say better for date night, meetings, brunch, lunch, dinner or even a drink or two. Will absolutely 💯 be adding this to my city faves list.

Host was amazing, server was delightful, drinks were tasty, the old guy that just threw the bread at us was unpleasant, poutine was cold and filet mignon sliders dry and bland. Nice space and reasonably priced.

Popped in here with my brunch crew after being turned away by the MAD place down the street. Was the last day of Restaurant Week and caught their RW Brunch, which was a very generous deal: fat hot cinnamon roll, two pancake/waffle plates, and two entrees for 24$. These cinnamon rolls put all cinnamon rolls to shame - perfectly hot, oozing with icing and drizzled with caramel. The waffles were good too, and the skillets can definitely fill you up for the rest of the day. Black Barrel's food is worth a visit, just be patient with their front of house (and maybe have your waitress repeat your orders back to you). They're usually pretty good about fixing a mistake.

The atmosphere is very laid back. The food was very good. I have posted the pictures of what we ate. Everyone was happy and full when we left.

My partner and I came here to watch the Pacers vs. OKC game. The windows and doors were open, and it was uncomfortably warm. We tried to find a breezy spot but ended up at the bar for the best TV view. The bartender was friendly and checked on us throughout. We ordered a margarita and the inaudible chatter cocktail, both were just okay. We got grilled wings with buffalo sauce as an appetizer. They were hot and fresh, but the wait was long, especially since the place wasn’t crowded. For entrees, we had the classic Cuban and the huge grilled cheese with fries. The grilled cheese had a nice mix of cheeses, but the bread was kind of plain. The Cuban was on the dry side and just ok overall. Decent bar if you're looking to watch a game and grab a bite.

Well first off the menu did not reflect current offerings. Second, all of our orders were wrong and waitress seemed indifferent to it - including two orders with allergy items. Third a discount was offered after correct items were brought out but it was the local discount so go figure as we were there with a local… also still my order was not right. I upgraded to a different side that was incomplete (Brussels spouts with bacon actually had no bacon). All in all the local we were with said she will not be returning.

This place could easily receive 4 stars or better from me if the waitress/ service was more responsive or at least check up on their table from time to time. I suggest that you have your order ready or pay as soon as you get your bill. Otherwise, you maybe waiting for a while. Everything else is fantastic.

J
Jacek Waliszewski

What the food lacks in flavor and quality, is made up with butter and cost. Ordered the black linguine - 4 shrimp, 4 fork fulls of pasta, about four cups of buttery white sauce - couldnt see the pasta, and had to shake the shrimp dry. Think Olive garden.

T
Trenton Thomas

The place was lovely. Drinks, amazing. Service, phenomenal. The bill, definitely a surprise for what we got. The menu items are accurate but even then it was a surprise. we ordered one serving of egg rolls and wanted the 3 flavors and was told we could but got 3 servings of egg rolls. Any drinks off the menu were overpriced. I absolutely loved coming here and probably will return but definitely will be more prepared with my wallet and expect double the price of what I’m seeing.

G
Gabby Rosen

General manager was extremely rude. We had a reservation for 7 pm for 6 people at 6:55 he walks up to our table since only 2 guest had arrived and asked “when is the rest of your party coming?” And we responded “5-10 mins” and he huffed back “I need this part of your table” and rolled his eyes and walked away. My friend later got wings which had feathers on them and he again was dismissive and just rude. As we left he said “bye feathers” so staff should be aware of who is running your business

S
Stephanie Guest

We dined with dogs. One licked the floor near my feet as I ate. Ewww. We even witnessed a really, really big, hairy dog walk right into the kitchen. What a disappointment. Our waitress was great-wasn’t her fault. The food was delicious, too, but it all just felt so unsanitary.

N

Manager or boss who ever he was was VERY RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL he did not want to fix my food for take it off my tab and told me “he know what he serves deal with it “ who treats there customers that has never been to this city or restaurant before
