Best ramen in Mexico City I had. We had won ton and Vietnamese soups, both were very tasty and delivered on the promised flavour, which was deep and with just the perfect amount of saltiness. The noodles are home made and it adds to the deliciousness. Bear in mind that Mexico City is 2200m above sea level and at this altitude it’s very difficult to achieve that depth of flavour ramen stock is famous for, as water boils at 95’C. Yet somehow they manage it. We had a lovely time, drinks were nice, for dessert we had kakigori - a shaved ice dessert - refreshing and cleansing after the soup. Friendly and attentive staff The only negative was that they don’t have a baby changing area, but I guess family meals are not their target.
Came for the ramen, stayed for the sushi. This place is two places in one. Rokai Ramen-Ya is the ramen place and Rokai is the sushi place. You can order from both. I did not expect much from this restaurant. Initially, I thought it was on the pricier side for CDMX after looking at the menu. However, the sushi quality justifies the cost. I ordered saba mackeral, chutoro, and toro nigiris. Also, I had the spicy tuna maki and the kaisen maki. Everything was delicious. Rice was well-cooked and seasoned. Fish was fresh. Toro melted in mouth. Definitely worth checking out. I’m getting the omakase next time.
They have really really good Japanese omakase here. The appetizer was bit added Mexican essence, but the sushi were like genuine Japanese taste(at least, in my - Japanese- point of view). Service, quality, cleanliness(especially in the bathroom!!) and the foods, all the stuff were worth to pay it.
The welcome and the service was good like often in Mexico. Some dishes are interesting and delicate and some unfortunately are a bit under what you would expect from this kinda place. The rice of the sushi nigiri was a deception but the Toro Espagnol was good. I’m usually not a big fan of desserts but the one I had was subtle and tasty.
The flavor and attention to detail was on par to Japan. They have great bouncy noodles, the soup has great deep flavor, they use tare unlike other ramen places in the are. The meat was great on both the to katsu ramen as well as the dandan mapo. The meat was tender and the far was soft, in tact still and full of flavor. We also ordered the karaage and you can taste the ginger they marinaded it in! That was inpressive. The price was a bit high but worth it.
Really good quality and authentic Japanese food, prepared with fresh ingredients. The menu is also very extensive and includes various starters, ramen, sashimi, sushi, other main dishes and desert. The only remarks I have is that (1) the futomaki rolls were very loosely rolled and therefore very difficult to eat (almost falling apart) and (2) wasabi was not served, so I had to ask for it. But overall a great place and I plan to visit it again during my stay in Mexico City.
If you're looking for real Japanese Ramen, this is the right place to be in, not Mexican styled Ramen, or Chinese / Korean styled Ramen. Seafood is very fresh, tempuras are neat and not greasy. Beware a lot of customers, so booking in advance required. 10/04/2022: tried the omakase set, advised by restaurant, upon receiving the bill i was surprised by the $1,800 price tag, considering the set was composed of one small entry dish, a fish filet, 9 nigiris, a miso soup, and a macha tiramisu. For the limited variety of fishes served, price was way too high! I would personally not recommend any of these menu, only a la carte.
Used to be best Sushi restaurant in Mexico, now it is merely good and significantly over priced. Service is mediocre despite an overabundance if waiters. Try some of their newer restaurants for better value-for-money. If you do go, make sure to have a reservation, try sitting at the sushi bar for a better experience.
Ramen was tasty but salty. Soft shell crab maki was good. A bit overpriced. Further, service was super slow, the waiter kind of pushed me to order really fast and then it took almost an hour to have my ramen and then another hour for the maki. The venue is small and cozy. Parking is available. I do not know if I will come back as service is terrible.
The red miso broth is very imbalanced. Usually, Japanese ramen—whether shoyu, miso, or shio—has a layered broth made from pork, chicken, and seafood, but this one is dominated by a strong red miso flavor and feels overly salty. The chashu is quite tough, and the nori becomes soggy in the soup when the ramen was served. The counter at the chef’s station is very high—makes me wonder if it’s comfortable for properly preparing fish. I would suggest gaining more experience, perhaps by visiting some ramen shops in Japan first, before opening your own restaurant.
