An incredible hidden gem in an area that is usually residential. Everything was great, the service, the food, the ambience and the FLOOR! We took so many pictures everywhere in the restaurant. The top part is a nice bar to chill and listen to music, the middle part sells amazing artisan ice cream and many Mexican souvenirs. They even have a luxury store. The kitchen is open so you can see the chefs cooking the food you're about to enjoy. Overall, a great experience!
Tetetlán doesn’t try to impress you—it just does. The architecture alone could make your meal feel like a cultural awakening, but then the food shows up and casually steals the spotlight. Everything tastes intentional, earthy, and just smug enough to remind you that yes, this is Mexico City and yes, you should’ve come hungrier. It’s the kind of place that makes you linger, judge other restaurants silently afterward, and wonder why your everyday meals even try.
We visited last night and loved the experience. Our waiter Luis took excellent care of us and meeting the manager Jordan was a treat. He told us about the library and introduced us to Josue who showed us the art. I was very happy to see prints of Pedro Ramirez Vazquez’s work on the 1968 olympics. We loved our experiences here. Bravo!
This was tied for our favorite restaurant experience in Mexico. First, the food was delicious. Everything was delicious but the Governor Tacos were so good we called the waiter back to ask for more. The Watermelon margarita was as tasty as it was beautiful. Second, the ambiance was amazing. It was like dining in a cave that had been decorated cool artsy types.
How I discovered this spot is a testament to how Google Maps can work if you are prepared to explore it and click things unthinkingly. Nestled in a super swanky part of town, this shop, library, co-working space, and café offers an exceptionally unique experience in an area most tourists don't explore. While planning a visit to the UNAM Botanical Garden, we wanted to get an early start, but still wanted a hearty breakfast before spending the morning hiking and birdwatching. As I explored the area, I tapped into this café, and I am so glad I did. The space is clearly a repurposed space that now affords the library and café super-tall ceilings, glass skylights, and views of the ancient stones beneath the floor. There is nothing about this space that isn't a creative way to showcase yet another dynamic side of the endeavor. We came early as it's open every day at 7 am, and started with a German coffee experience that looks like half science experiment and half art class. My wife needed pancakes, and I tried their salmon toast. The pancakes were tall and fluffy, served with fruit and a caramel sauce. My salmon was more cured than "smoked" and came with a caper tapenade. The bread was delicious, and I enjoyed trying different salsas on my breakfast. There was so much to try on the menu, so we will have to come back. Some of the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked amazing, so I did have a little food envy. Once breakfast was over, we decided to explore the rest of the space by doing a little bit of gift shopping upstairs and checking out the massive record collection, which included a host of famous international artists, as well as records we pressed for the Mexican market. Many even have different album covers entirely. So cool. This fantastic destination is about 30 minutes outside of town from where we were staying in Roma, so I recommend planning to tour this part of CDMX if you are going to start your morning here. We loved it and plan on coming back the next time we are in town.
Ohh em gee! The food and service were superb. Eduardo was an incredible server. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. He went above and beyond to make our visit feel truly special. I highly recommend this place for a unique experience and outstanding food. We will definitely be coming back, all thanks to Eduardo’s exceptional service.
I was extremely pleased with our visit at Tetelán!! The atmosphere is beautiful. When you walk in, you are greeted with a gift shop and a record store above to the left. The portion sizes are pretty large as well. I got the chapulín taco and I do not regret it. Staff was very friendly and attentive. I will definitely come back here when visiting again.
The place was absolutely stunning. Designed by the famous architect Barragán, the building showcased a brilliant mix of wood, brick, stone, and metal, all used in such a thoughtful way. Upstairs, there was a beautiful library filled with fascinating books, and the restaurant itself was an unforgettable experience. By accident, we ended up ordering a pizza with crickets from misunderstanding Spanish, and the waiters surprised us even more by offering free ants to try along with a mezcal shots. I joked with them that insect food wasn’t really my thing, but it turned into such a fun and unique experience. Beyond that, I loved the other dishes — baby corn, squid ink noodles, a variety of salsas with chips, and some amazing cocktails.
Right of the bat - the ambience is excellent and the service is great! It is some sort of a mix of many things - not only is it a restaurant, it has a few shops inside it as well and a yoga studio and health center. The menu is varied and interesting. There is a lot of hippie/yoga based health drinks. The ginger shot was great. It is very tastefully decorated too. It has a huge indoor seating area. An upstairs area where I saw people working on their laptops. The floor is glass so you can see the underlying volcanic structure. The selection of mezcals was good as well.
We were astonished with the design and atmosphere of the restaurant! We went there for lunch and were seated right away. The price was average to high. The food in my opinion was Mexican and Italian with some pasta menu section. There were shops inside the facility as well. My friends got some art prints from there. They said they were rare finds. The food taste was average for me.
This restaurant is probably one of the best restaurants we had in Mexico. The space is amazing with very interesting architectures. The food was very good. We really enjoyed our time there. After lunch, we had some pastries and coffee in the cafe. We went upstairs to just chill. I recommend to anyone to come and discover the space. It's really something unique and amazing. The food was very good.
One of the most beautiful restaurants you will ever see. There is also several shops where you can purchase locally made art and handicrafts including clothes there's also a boxing gym and yoga studio on the top floor. The entire floor of the downstairs is glass which exposes beautiful lava rocks the lighting and ambience with the plants and vines inside or out of this world .
This is my third time going to Tetetlan. We always make sure to make it a trip when we go to CDMX San Jerónimo. We went for dinner and the food was good, not great like other places I’ve been to but still good. The salsas were not bad but they could be more flavorful. Tlayudas were delicious. We ordered the plátano macho with molé, the mole was very spicy but the combination was delicious. The huitlacoche with 4 different sauces. For our entree we got the molcajete with cactus, arrachera and shrimp, very skimpy on the shrimp, it only came with three and way too much cheese. Blue corn tortillas were delicious. We also got the vegan horchata, very good and not too sweet and the charcoal activated water with a hint of lime juice, that was my favorite. We love the dessert push cart, its a beautiful sight! We got the chocolate crepe cake and it was very good. The vibes are always great, the atmosphere is always beautiful, the music selection always top notch. Book selection also top notch, this place is so beautiful. Very well thought out place, the decor, the shop with mexican artisan’s pottery, jewelry, clothing etc, just cant be beat. Looking forward to going back!
The aesthetic design of the place is simply astonishing. The decoration, the ambiance and the overall vibe of the place is truly stunning. The service could have been better, but it wasn’t terrible. Physical aspect: There are different levels to the place. There is a gift shop when you come in. On the same floor there is a yoga studio and another shop where you can buy clothes and other cute goodies. Vinyl discs with classics are also displayed on that floor. Then the downstairs area is divided into different sections. There is this library, feels like you’re in an indie movie the entire time. The floor is clear so you can see the volcanic area. My favorite part of the restaurant was definitely the architecture. Now the food: we ordered 3 types of tacos which were decent but not the best ones we’ve had. Especially for the price. They don’t sell them by orders of three, they sell them individually. Each one is about $4USD From all the tacos we ordered, the only one I actually liked was the steak one. I believe I must’ve read the menu wrong, but there was an al pastor pineapple taco that was only made of pineapple, it did not have any meat or pork, which was disappointing because I am all about my protein. It also lacked flavor. I liked that they were purple. That was aesthetic. I also ordered the chilaquiles which were my favorite. You can build your own chilaquiles and add whichever topping you desire. This was a great idea and the taste was delicious! I loved the spices that they give you! We also ordered a couple of beverages. We got coffee (5/5), ginger shots with beets (5/5) and orange and carrot juices (5/5). I was curious about the blue corn horchata so I ordered it as well and it tasted a bit raw, or improperly mixed. I don’t know how to describe it but it wasn’t a huge fan. It was disappointing because I was very excited to try it. Overall, this is a beautiful place and if you are nearby, definitely check them out. Good is ok, but I probably shouldn’t have ordered tacos. There is a national park nearby and other activities that you can do. Keep in mind you need to ask for permission before going in. Make sure you ask the staff and they can guide you.
The restaurant is one of the most unique spaces I have had the pleasure to dine at. The food was beautiful displayed however, disappointing and taste, but if I were in Mexico City again, I would definitely go back because it's just so unique. They have a beautiful gift shop and you're surrounded by a library of books and records while you dine it's really quite amazing. Next door is La Casa Pedregal, a home designed by Luis Barragán, one of Mexico’s most famous architects. Visits are allowed, but only by appointment and worth visiting!
The environment and atmosphere of this restaurant is so stunning it almost gets 5 stars based on that alone. The glass floor, the lava rock walls, and the bookstore-like atmosphere are almost unmatched. The food and service were 4 stars - there were times where it was hard to get our servers attention. We also had a slight hiccup with some dishes coming out dirty that the staff quickly fixed for us. I also love the seasonal menu offerings they had that could really bring this to a 5 star rating. If people ask, I'd recommend trying it.
This restaurant is truly an amazing place, blending the charm of an old building with contemporary and modern touches. The unique design creates a space that feels both historic and fresh. The menu offers a wide range of options, all made with purely organic ingredients that deliver fresh and tasty flavors. The restaurant spans three floors, each offering a different ambiance and seating experience. In addition to the delicious food, they also have an interesting selection of drinks, from fresh juices to various coffees—both of which were excellent. Beyond the dining areas, there are a couple of boutiques, a yoga studio, and a cozy book reading section, making it much more than just a place to eat. It’s a wonderful spot to relax, explore, and enjoy a great meal in a beautifully designed setting.
When we arrived, the power was out, but no one informed us until after we were already seated trying to order something. We chose this restaurant specifically for the atmosphere, and with little to no lighting, we could barely see anything. Despite this, we decided to stay. Service was extremely poor and inattentive. We had to get up three to four times just to get someone’s attention or ask for assistance. Salsas were brought to the table, but no chips ever followed. The food took an exceptionally long time to arrive. When my meal finally came, the tortillas were clearly stale—so hard that I couldn’t even cut through them and the food itself was cold (possibly due to the power outage). I mentioned the tortillas to the server, who stated if they were “off “ it would taste bitter but offered to let me order something else, but after waiting over an hour for the food, I declined. My meal was comped, which I appreciated. It then took another 20 minutes just to receive the cheque. The waiter never once checked on our table. Because of the lack of service, we left a very small tip. We left feeling frustrated and disappointed. Save your money.
