Shalimar in Clifton Park is highly praised for its delicious Indian cuisine, especially the lunch buffet, and attentive service. Customers rave about the flavorful chicken and goat curries, naan, and spiced iced tea. A few mention inconsistent quality or early closing times.

Hard to do better than the Friday Night Buffet for $15. Flavors and selection of dishes top-notch. They were struggling to keep the nan, but that is to be expected. Would return!
I recently gave this place a try with my friend. We were extremely happy with our decision to try it out. The staff was completely attentive and the food was fantastic! The prices are very reasonable and I will be coming back for sure!
Was curious about their tandoori salmon, as I had never seen it on a menu before- it had amazing subtle flavor and was cooked to perfection. Even our 3 year old loved it. Will be getting it again!
The buffet is high quality delicious food! Very great service with a friendly greeting when you come in. They ask and bring you your drink of choice and are sure to keep it refilled as you like. Great choices of biryani, curry chicken, spicy channa, various veggies, and chicken. Excellent quality, service, value, and friendly family place. Highly recommend!
I'm not a huge Indian food eater, but I do enjoy having it every once in a while. I have tried many places, but this is the best. Their buffet is well priced and they keep bringing out hot fresh food. the sauces are home made and the wait staff is super friendly. I recommend to anyone who likes Indian food.
I have been going to Shalimar in Clifton Park for many years. The food is consistently the best of all restaurants that feature cuisine from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The curry sauce is consistently the best. The management and staff are always exceeding kind, efficient and professional. The kitchen is well organized, so you will never wait for an unreasonable amount of time for in-house dining or pickup. The prices have always been reasonable. Remember this is authentic, hand-made food, not cheap, fast food, so respect the traditions they preserve.
LOVE THIS PLACE! Been coming for 5 years and it the best Indian food in the area. We brought our friend from India she said it was very authentic. I love the lunch buffet so much it rotates and has lots of quality options and great price! I go out with coworkers for lunch and it’s ver expedient service. I also love coming for dinner and taking my time for multiple courses. Definitely go here you will not be disappointed!
Always delicious. Their buffet is to die for, when they offer it, and so affordable. A do not miss meal.
Wow. Great prices, food was buffet style. Phenomenal desserts. Staff was incredibly attentive. Definitely worth it. Best Indian rice dessert I've ever had
I have never tired Indian food before and I was recommended to try a few different items from my boyfriend who’s stepfather was Indian. So I found this place and I walked in pretty confused and unsure of where to even start. The gentleman who helped me was just the sweetest! He took the time to listen to me and help find the perfect dish form me! He even treated my to a mango lassi while I waited! It was a wonderful atmosphere while some other dinners were even telling me how many times they have come here! I came home and boy did I enjoy my food or what!!! I even was nice enough to share! I will definitely be going back!! Thank you so much for showing me such kindness!! Your food was so good and I cannot wait to try something different next time!!! Thank you again!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. such a nostalgic place for me, I have been going here since I was a kid for their lunch buffets. Even now that I go to college everytime I go here during my school breaks they remember what drink i always order with my food. one of my favorite comfort restaurants in CP
They have a $14 dinner buffet, and that includes a drink! It is worth the $14, the food was quite delicious. For what you are paying, they have a good selection to choose from as well. The staff are very attentive and quickly fill drinks and remove dirty dishes. It’s totally a hidden gem as more than half of the tables were empty on a Friday evening.
This is the second time my fiance and I have been in the past 2 weeks. Both times the food was amazing!! The buffet is open for lunch & dinner and is very affordable. The staff is very kind & attentive. They take the cleanliness and COVID precautions very seriously. They also have take-out options. Highly recommend!!
We get take out from this restaurant almost once a week. The food is delicious! They will customize the spice level to your liking. Great staff!
Shalimar is the best Indian food I have found in the upstate NY area. They have a buffet that has a great selection, and even better tasting food. I have been able to feed my picky daughter food from there consistently, and she loves it every time we go. Their spicy chicken, palak paneer and aloo Gobi are all amazing. If you have not tried it, get their spiced iced tea, as it goes great with the food they offer. Their naan is delicious as well. The staff there are amazing, and they make sure you feel welcome and attended to. Everyone I have seen come in seems to have a personal connection with the staff which makes it feel more like a homestyle restaurant. I have coworkers who travel from across the country, and I always suggest this place or take them there for a great meal.
Fantastic lunch buffet if you need a little spice to get through the day. Good selection of dishes. Great value for the price. Highly recommended.
This was my first time eating here and I was thoroughly impressed. The food was fresh and delicious, with lots of options. The lunch buffet is just enough food so you can try a little bit of everything. The service was on point as well. Being new to the area we are always looking for places to try, so we will return for sure!
Great food, great value! My first visit was on Friday evening, arriving a few minutes after five. We had the buffet, a great value at $11.99 with many choices. Service was excellent, with the owner checking in on everyone. The only downside is that we felt slightly rushed. There was a line waiting for tables when we left. But overall, I can't give Shalimar anything less than five stars.
The best Indian restaurant ever, I’ve been to this Shalimar and the ones in Delmar and Albany and they have the best Indian food. Always top notch and am in love with the chicken tikka masala and vegetable samosas. You also can’t beat the prices, they have a lunch buffet and weekend dinner buffet for only $12 per person
Every time I order here my meal is freshly cooked. The chef is unbelievably talented. My 1st time eating this food and each time I come back it’s better than the 1st time. I also ordered 20 minutes before closing and the chef took his time preparing the food and was NOT rushed. Ty Shalimar!!!!
Had dinner here for the first time and loved the food! The service was great and the owners are very friendly. I will be dining here again for the buffet!
Delicious food and great customer service! I ordered the chili chicken and my husband ordered a lamb dish. We were both very happy. Additionally, they were very kind to my kids who were being rowdy.
They remember you and your drinks never are empty. Always top notch service and quality food.
Great food and great people. We’ve been regulars for well over 10 years and quality stays consistent.
I like a little bit more spice in my Indian food, but these guys are always kind. Prices are fair and drink is included in the buffet!
We are addicted to the chicken pallak and chickpea pallak and the lassi drinks are terrific. We love your restaurant!!!
Excellent, food is hot and fresh with many choices. Please try
A couple years ago I went for the buffet, it was good. Last night I had a fierce craving for authentic Indian food and wasn’t disappointed. I ordered three entrees and some naan bread. It fed our family of 6 and we had leftovers. The food was so tasty, sauces were amazing. As far as a place to go on a nice date, the place has a so-so atmosphere. I wish I could redecorate it for them to match what the food tastes like. I feel like it had fluorescent lighting and minimal decor. You definitely go to this place for the food rather than for the environment.
We have been coming here for years. The food is always delicious. They offer great service, nice music and casual atmosphere. Buffet always had lots of good options. They are very accommodating- our family tends to customize our dishes and it is never a problem.
The food is fantastic, especially their naan, and the service is great and speedy. Their buffet is a great bargain, likely the cheapest in the area for the high quality of food they provide. My family and I will be coming again very soon!
Recently ate here. The food was amazing!! Very authentic. Great flavors. The moment you walk through the front door the aromas of the various spices fill the room with a welcoming atmosphere.
Every time I’ve been here, it’s been amazing! The food is great, and was my introduction to Indian food. I highly recommend coming here during the buffet hours, as it’s a great way to try everything for really cheap. Please come here, it’s so good! 🙏🙏
A+ for food! Amazing fresh flavors and lots of items to choose from. Staff was helpful and extremely friendly.
We've been coming to this buffet when visiting family for the last 10 years. It's a good value budget with nice choices. We've also been ordering take out more lately and the chicken vindaloo is always decent, the chicken biriyani is very tasty and the tandoori chicken is great. The appetizer sampler is super good value!
I have been to many of the Indian Restaurants across the capital region over the years from Delmar to Lake George and by far the one I look forward to going to the most is the Shalimar in Clifton Park. I visit Shalimar mostly for their lunch buffets and always experience a clean and friendly environment. I have always found the food hot and fresh even when I have arrived close to the end of their lunch hours. My favorite item on the buffet is by far the Chili Chicken, it is an item I have never seen anywhere else and it is something you need to make sure you try it is a perfect combination of flavors and just the right amount of spice. It is only available every other day so we try to keep track of when it is available. Even when I arrive on a day without it, it will still be a great lunch as I enjoy everything on the buffet. They also sometimes have Palak Paneer on the buffet which is another rare item for a buffet that I am always excited to eat. Overall I highly recommend this place and absolutely do not go through life without having have tried the Chili Chicken it is a bucket list food item.
Me and my son had dinner tonight at Shalimar in Clifton Park. We usually always order take out from here and the food never disappoints and always has consistently good quality food. We extra drive from Latham to Clifton Park, because the Clifton Park location is the best in our opinion. The staff is also super friendly and also very kids friendly.
I can't say enough great things about the food and service here. The owner and staff are always warm and friendly, and the food is the best Indian I have found, consistently delicious and always freshly made. This is our family "go to" for our favorite Indian dishes.
Blown away by the food and experience! The food was great but what really made the place stand out was the service of the employees being very attentive, answering questions, and filling glasses, etc. The Mango lassi was good and tasted like Mango lassi, not blended frozen mango chunks 🤯 They didn't even put ice in it to water it down 🎉 massive appreciation and five stars. Their fried onion potato clusters (sorry I forgot the name) were so so tasty and the yogurt dipping sauce was delicious. All of this at a great price. I am very happy to have stopped by, definitely worth a try!
Read all these great reviews on Google about the buffet and had to try it myself. It was AMAZING! So affordable (lunch buffet: $11.99/person, dinner buffet $14.50/person). Everything tasted so delicious, freshly made and replaced as food was running out. Buffet includes the drink. Service was great! They were very friendly, helpful and on top of everything. We'll definitely be going there again. One of our faves now for sure
Every single time I enter the Clifton park Shalimar my experience feels brand new and it's exhilarating. Food is always hot and fresh, the na an is is crispy and warm and the tandoori chicken is to die for. This is a must try if you're anywhere in the area!
Everything about this was restaurant was amazing!!! It smelled amazing when we walked in and we were immediately greeted. We were given ice water automatically along with our juices and the man made sure to keep our waters full. Neither of us had had Indian or Pakistani food before so when he brought it out, he told us the best ways to eat it. The food was out of this world!! And such large portions! Plus the pricing was amazing. We will definitely be going back!
Probably some of the best valued food you can get in the Capital Region. $16 (+tip) for an unlimited dinner buffet?? Yes please! A little unrelated, but this is a perfect place to go for a meal if you’re bulking for the gym. Lots of options for protein. Thanks Shalimar!!!
This is a great deal for an Indian food! The food is delicious! The servers are very attentive and helpful. We will be coming back here a lot more often!
Favorite restaurant in Clifton Park for years and that will never change. Anything you get is amazing with impeccable service. Extra treat if you come in for the lunch buffet. Try everything!
absolute buss the daal 10/10 I never thought I could like chickpeas more than I already did, but that was a lie. if there was a way to shrink this restaurant and put it in my pocket and bring it with me wherever I went so that I could have their food constantly all the time at a very reasonable price, I would
My husband and I go here ONCE A WEEK! We love the food, the kind service and lovely atmosphere! The sweetest team of people you’ll ever meet! If you’re looking for an easy way to try a bunch of different, delicious Indian food, go here!!! So tasty! My husband is celiac and egg free, he can eat here with EASE! He has never been gluten-ed as we refer to it here. Just the best!!
This was our first visit for a pre~birthday dinner. The Samosa Chaat was wonderful. I had the Chicken Tikki Masala and it was delicious and creamy. The butter Naan was great and authentic. We were there at the very start of the dinner timeframe, so dine-in was quiet and efficient. Our total tab was more than reasonable. We will be coming back to try more menu items.
Very clean inviting dining room. Food was hot and fresh. Will definitely be back.
Shalimar Buffet is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Pakistani-Indian cuisine. The buffet offers a wide variety of flavorful dishes, all rich in traditional spices and prepared with care. What truly sets it apart is how gluten-free friendly it is. Many items are naturally gluten-free and the staff is knowledgeable and happy to assist with dietary needs. With delicious food, a warm ambiance, and attentive service, Shalimar is a top choice for gluten-free South Asian dining.
I can’t say enough good things about the Clifton Park Shalimar! We go to their lunch buffet several times a month. We’re always greeted with a smile and our plates are taken away promptly. No matter when you get there the buffet food is hot and delicious. Finally, the cost is a steal! Go, you won’t regret it!!
My husband & I went to Shalimar for the first time tonight and as soon as we walked in, I knew it was going to be delicious just from the smell, and it was better than I imagined. The staff was so friendly & welcoming and excitedly suggested we try the dessert which was also great. We were starving and the buffet was a quick & tasty option, being refreshed often as we sat. We will definitely be back!
Delicious food that never disappoints, the restaurant is always clean and tidy and the service is unmatched.
Hello, this was my first time coming to this location tonight for takeout and I ordered 1 butter chicken at level 7 spice and 1 veggie curry at level 7 spice. Had a pleasant conversation with the people inside and I mentioned it was my first time at this location. And as I’m eating the food, it was very delicious, I had to put my food down and come write this review, because of how amazing this meal was. The veggie samosa are 10/10.
I come here all the time, one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I love that they offer dinner buffet on the weekends. The staff are always kind and keep up with plates during dinner buffet really well, same with the drink refills. I often get take out and that's always good too!! Sometimes when I have a sore throat I ask them to add extra heat and they do not disappoint!!! The atmosphere is very cozy, I love it here!!!
My wife and I are in the area only a few times a year to visit family, but we always make a point of eating here every time.
such a nice people, great service and excellent food toooo good. loved itt❤️❤️
The biryani is fire. Highly recommended. Picked up the food, but from what I saw. the vibe is nice for dining in.
Freaking awesome!! Quick service awesome people nicest waiter ever!! The food was so good my plate was DESTROYED. If you want some of the best food of your life GO HERE!!
The gentlemen that host and wait on you are friendly and prompt. I ordered the hot spice tea and chicken samosa to start, both were perfect. My main meal was the Punjabi Lamb Korma and Garlic Naan and it came with portion of Basmati rice. For dessert I got the fried Swiss cheese balls *try them!* Every item was cooked to my liking. The staff are kind and happy to serve you with a smile, and wrapped my leftover naan up in foil for me while I boxed the rest of my leftovers. Pleasant experience, kind people, easy parking, and good food with affordable prices.
So if you are familiar with and enjoy the multitude of Indian Buffets in the USA, this is the place to be!! A small storefront nestled in between pizza joints and supermarkets, the place is less than 2 min from the i87 highway, making it PERFECT for a quick pit stop. Or if you want an easy meal for the family or friends this is also great for folks who are either curious about Indian cuisine or are well versed in Vindaloo The staff are very attentative and welcoming, they keep all the food hot and topped off, and the buffet is spotless and very well presented. While they may be a smaller buffet, they rotate out the dishes on their dinner buffet so you can come back and try something new. Everything they make is amazing! From the Aloo Paneer Tikki to the Chicken Tandoori to the Masala and the spicy onion chutney, they have the staples down pat and done RIGHT! Many types of Vegetarian, chicken, and fish dishes were available in curry sauces as well as a spicy chicken chili with peppers and onions. There was plenty of light fluffy Naan and two types of basmati rice to soak up the flavors. And the best part? $16 per person for buffet. Can't be beat.
We love going here for lunch! The food is consistently good, our server is always friendly. If we lived closer we would definitely visit more often!
The food was delicious. They kept up with refilling buffet quickly. There aren't many tables, but there seemed to be at least 1 empty table. The staff/owner were extremely friendly.
I have eaten here twice. First time was the buffet- amazing amazing everything was so fresh. Second time was take out! Loved that it was ready as soon as I walked in. Great food!
Came to the Clifton Park Location today for lunch, first time coming in. Everything was excellent! Ordered the Chicken Dal, Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, Spiced Iced Tea (highly recommend) and tried all three chutney options. Everything was extremely tasty. The staff were very attentive and polite. At the end of the meal, the owner came out and spoke with us; very down to earth gentleman who truly cares about his customers. We will definitely be back!
I’m glad I stopped in, I was traveling and found this place to fill up on an all you can eat buffet. The food was very warm, fresh, and cooked well! I highly recommend mixing the sauces with the food you eat! They mix well and enhance the flavors! Especially with the biryani. The restaurant is also nut friendly, for people with allergies. The biryani does have coconut in it. Other than that all the food I was shown didn’t have nuts. The deserts were my favorite definitely worth a try! I’d recommend going to this restaurant if you have time.
I stopped in to order a take out butter chicken meal with naan, not realizing it was outside of their hours. They made it right then for me and offered me a drink while I waited. I realized after it was between their hours. They were so kind! The food was delicious, too. Would totally recommend.
Buttered up by the butter chicken. I'm not the biggest fan of Indian cuisine, which stems from my lack of tolerance for spice. But I felt exploratory this week, and so I picked Shalimar to buy my cheat day dinner from. Going with an order of the Mixed Appetizers, Chicken Tikka Makhani, and Cheese Naan. Total came to a little over $25 before tip, a very reasonable price for the quantity of food I received. The staff was very pleasant, and ordering over the phone did not prove to be too difficult. But how was the quality? Well when I arrived home I found the takeout was packed very well, everything kept warm in tinfoil, tightly sealed containers, and not a single bit of leakage. Impressive. The mixed appetizer, which consists of vegetable samosa, pakora and pappadum, was a good way to start. I didn't end up finishing everything though, because I needed room for that chicken tikka makhani, or Indian Butter Chicken. Poured over rice it was a great curry, delicious in every sense of the word. It was rich and creamy, the chicken was thick and meaty, the flavors were almost addictive. By the end I was stuffed and foisted the remaining naan and appetizers off on my old man who throughly enjoyed them, as he is a big fan of Indian foods. This was an excellent meal for a great price, highly recommended!
We love Shalimar! We do usually do the Friday night buffet when we drive up to Vermont. It always delicious and we can be in an out in 20 minutes. Quicker than a drive thru and so much healthier. Stopping by on a Thursday is an extra treat as we get to order off the menu. Just as good and still very fast service.
I'm literally obsessed with this place! I get their lunch buffet atleast once a month. Can't beat $12 for a delicious lunch. If I lived closer I'd be there weekly. Absolutely delicious! No frills type of place, but the food is legit and the service is great. There's certainly a reason it's always busy! 👌
This place is crazy good! Pricing is awesome, service is great, and the food is wonderful. The first photo is (was) of the Samosa Chaat....but we finished it before I remembered to take the pic! Second photo is the Chicken Vindaloo and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Each was enough that we took half home for dinner the next night. We live up in Glens Falls and make a trip down to Clifton Park/Half Moon every few months; will make sure we time it around the buffet so we can taste a few more items. Highly recommended.
Superior service! I think we have been checked in on 8 times (or more) for drinks and refills. Staff is very customer friendly. Food is phenomenal, different rices and to top it with many different variations of flavored chicken and goat, Curry’s, eggplant, spinach with cheeses (FAVORITE) peta bread, peta bread with Cheese inside (FAVORITE) and some fun dessert choices! 10 out of 10 highly recommend!!
Respectfully, the food wasn't that great. It wasnt bad. It looked like it would be flavorful but it was not. It wasn't authentic Indian food but they are good at reading where they are located. So it makes sense why it wasnt flavorful and reaching its full Indian food potential. The locals like it. However, it isn't savory like Indian food really is. I paid for 2 adults, a buffet and spent 45 dollars in total which included a tip.
Went here for dinner during the week. Ordered vegetarian dishes. Bhigan Bhorta was one of the best I've had. Every dish had a unique flavor. Absolutely no complaints on the taste. Place is small, but doesn't feel cramped. Two gentleman were manning the place. One was very nice and courteous. The other was a bit serious. Overall, one of the better Indian meals I've had. Will certainly come back.
Great local Indian Spot. The lunch buffet is under $11 and a bargain compared to other local spots. Food was not stale and fresh. The naan seemed to always run out though. There's not enough supply during rush hour at lunch. Chicken Tandoori could be a little more spicier though, seems like it's just red chicken. I've been to other places and it's always jammed full of flavor and spice.
We've been there twice while passing through to the Adirondacks. Nice place, great vegan fare. Attentive staff. The buffet is also quite good. They stay open in the early afternoon, when other Indian restaurants typically close (the buffet is closed at that time, which is understandable).
Yummy food. Buffet style. Nice selection but empty trays as we were there late on the lunch hour. Cold fried options too. Mix of Indian and Pakistani cuisines so really nice for this gal who prefers Pakistani and Afghan selections. Wish the restaurant had more light. Literally felt like a whole in the wall.
I went here about 8 years ago and it was amazing and I haven't been back since I had a little one and I wasn't sure how he would like this kind of food. So we decided to try it out tonight for dinner buffet. The staff was very kind and they were very attentive. We were a little early for the buffet so they gave us drinks and let us wait. There's salad was very fresh and had a bunch of different dressings you could put on top. They had a chickpea salad that was good, two different types of rice, one plain one vegetable. You have to excuse me cuz I don't know the names of a lot of the things we ate which I was thankful they had descriptions of what everything was at the buffet bar. There was a round fried item but it was a little strange it had a potato inside and the potato wasn't even really cooked all the way through so we didn't really like that, and then they had one with shredded potato that was way better. The naan bread was the best thing on the bar it was very hot and fresh and soft, my son really like that. I really like the chicken marsala and also a spicy chicken. My husband has the goat but he said it was full of Bones which was kind of not appealing to him having to pick them out. They had two different types of deserts, one was a donut that was marinated in a coconut almond sauce, and another one was like a carrot porridge which I did not try. You get what you get for the price that you paid I think it was between 12 and $13 for dinner. I wish there was a little bit more selection. Food was hot and fresh
This is spot on if you are looking for very good Indian cuisine at a very reasonable cost. It is a simple restaurant with an extensive menu. I don't eat here nearly as often as I should. The food has never disappointed. The appetizer sampler is great for 2 to get the flavor of what's to come. The Punjabi lamb korma had just a hint of heat - the right amount to impart flavor. I particularly enjoy the kheer (rice pudding). It is sweet and just perfectly flavored.
Decent, cheap restaurant with 99 percent Non-indian customers. Most of the customers are americans and food has been changed to suit their spice needs . All curries were made of cream, with almost no spice in them..If you are a Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi, do remember to notify them first to make your food spicy and not creamy..explain spice levels separately.. their level 5 was 0.5 for us.. They have Buffet options too...
UPDATE: Used to have a full 5 star review, but between closing early and the max bright lights, I just had to adjust. I say it time and time again. If you want to close early, then adjust your operating hours!! Closing earlier than those times is basically wasting the time of your customers for your own personal gain to save on labor costs at the expense of your customers' time. Too many times, it showed up 1 hour or 45 minutes before closing, and they already were wrapping up bc it was "slow." Sorry, but I just showed up 45 minutes before close with 5 people and were sent packing. Unacceptable adjust your hours of operation, simple. Also, they need to dim the lights again, ghe full bright feel more like a cafeteria than a dining experience. B- ORIGINAL REVIEW: Awesome food, great prices! Fantastic staff and ALWAYS fresh!!! ! Highly recommend 👌 They have a great buffet, which my family loves. The prices are great and the food is authentic and delicious. Great for kids too, my son loves it and enjoys the experience. He stays away from the spicy food but loves the Chicken Tikka Masala. I prefer a Vindaloo or a spicy curry. If you ask, they will make it extra spicy for you! The dinner menu is always a favorite if you want something more unique. They do a great job of keeping the customer happy and relaxed. Very attentive and overall an experience you can't beat if you are looking for Indian food in the area! I don't do so much to go food, but I see a lot of customers getting take out while I am there, so I would assume the takeout is also great. To top it off, the owner is a great guy, and you can tell he really cares about the day to day operations of the business. He is almost always there to greet you and make you feel welcome. A+++
I think it deserves 3 - 4 stars for food quality and 0 star for customer service. There was one from the staff that was VERY RUDE. He seems like he doesn’t care at all about his customers. They charged half buffet price for my 2 year old daughter and we asked about the age just to know the policy he said “from 1-3 yrs half price and from 3-5 full price!!”. We said okay and gave him the CC to pay. He came back with one peace of chicken and saying this peace is $1-2 and the drink is $1.5 and kept saying things like we don’t make money. If you eat 3-4 pieces with a drink that’s what you pay for and all this kind of RUDE stuff. It was my first time here and DEFINITELY the last visit. Food is not bad but not fresh and it is not authentic desi food from spice level to heavy cream in all plates. Pakura was very oily and it seems like they re-heated it and it’s not fresh. If you don’t like spicy food then it might be good for you. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THEIR RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE.
I went here for the dinner buffet. The food was decent but it was not particularly special and it lacked spice or heat. I'm giving it a 2/5 because one of the wait staff was extremely rude when he came over to take our drink order. I'm not sure what the issue was but he rolled his eyes at us when we also ordered paratha and actually refused to bring it to us. We had to ask a different person for it and they were happy to put in the order when we asked them.
Not great. I got takeout with my parents and fiancé and my food was very bland. My mom and I got the chicken tikka masala and it tasted like creamy water. It’s like they forgot to add any spices. Chicken quality is on point with other places, but the flavor just wasn’t there. Not sure what audience they’re catering to, but it’s clearly one that doesn’t have a palate for authentic flavors. Naan and rice were good though.
Biryani was excellent. Vindaloo was inedible. Asked for extra spicy, had zero heat and was saturated with an unfathomable amount of grease. The grease that is all over the bag, table and my phone. Went right in the trash. Never again, which is a shame because I used to love this place.
Very very bad and distgusted a Cockroach was on my table under the holder for the salt and pepper when my food came out it decided to come out. And the way the waiter just grabbed it and took it away didnt ask anything if I was ok or wanted to keep eating the food he just didnt care I had ask the other waiters and then I got a full refund thank god never ever again!!!!!
First time. The food was delicious, until I discovered rodent hair, or what appeared to be, throughout the dish. I phoned the restaurant to let them know. I did not want to tarnish their reputation by posting a bad review. They did not care . The gentleman just kept confirming that it was delicious, asked if I needed to order food now. Just in case there was a language barrier, I asked if he understood what I was saying “there was rodent hair in my food, like mouse hair”, he again asked if he could place an order for me.
I came here in 2019 back then. This place was so awesome, and the food was great. We came back in 2024 the food was the worst ever. No taste, cold food they basically add color to food. There is no real spice and flavor. The owner just kept walking back and forth and looking at people to see how much they were eating. I believe that back in 2019, this place must have been under different management because what the current management served will make you throw up. Gulab jamun are basically out of the can and warmed up. Good luck eating that ridiculously sweet gulab jamun. We basically left this place in 15 min, but the owner got the idea that yes, we know about real indian and pakistani food, and he looked pissed. Sorry, but your food is the worst ever I have tried.
Did buffet.. terrible food and service. All containers were empty… they are cheap for a reason 🤮😷🤧🤐🥴
Absolutely worst indian food ive ever had and ive been to many, many places. The garlic naan and rice was fine but the chicken tikka masala wasnt good. It had no flavor at all. I also got the dal makhani, and i have to say, this one just left me confused. Ive ordered this from many places and it was never made like it was here. It really was gross. Both dishes tasted like a way too creamy tomato soup. Maybe its a regional thing, i dont know. I could only eat the naan and rice, i threw the rest out. They also didnt add any utensils with the takeout. Save your money and try a different place.
Shalimar used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but this is the second time their buffet had little to no food available. I tried to order chili chicken—staff gave me the menu, but even after getting home, I was still waiting for it. The staff lacked proper communication, and the owner wasn’t there. I feel that if the owner had been present, the experience might have been better. Overall, it was disappointing.the owner is really nice and when ever he there food is always great
I got this for takeout. I used to go to the Shalimar in Albany and it was my go to. Not sure if they sold but the food was tasteless. It tasted like yogurt and nothing else. Too bad as they used to be good. Probably different owners. They can’t be Indian or Pakistani as this food had no flavor. Order at your own risk
For the sake of your health and wellness, spend your money elsewhere. I have gotten the takeout buffet from here a few times, but a recent experience made me regret patronizing this place! I ordered a vegetarian rice 🍚 dish for takeout and found a large piece of chicken 🐔 in it. I called the restaurant and between the two people they transfered me back and forth, they asked me multiple times what my name and order was despite having all my information as it was an online order. Then they hung up on me as I restated my complaint. Rude and dismissive behavior!! I called back and after I repeated the issue, they had the audacity to ask me to bring the food back! This begs the question, were they planning to serve it to other patrons, which of course would be a serious health code violation?! Of course, that was not something feasible. There was no apology and they kept saying they weren't the owners and unable to refund me which makes no sense for a petty transaction of $13. At this point, I mentioned I would have no choice but to leave a 1 star review as it was unacceptable and the guy said they were busy and had to close the place. I support small businesses but you've left me no choice. You've lost a customer and future business from those who read the review. Spend your money elsewhere. 🙏🏾
