Shan Shan Low is a well-regarded Chinese restaurant known for large portions and fast service. Customers consistently praise the salt & pepper pork chops, wonton soup, and mandarin chicken. Some note a decline in quality post-COVID and occasional temperature issues with takeout.

Nice place to sit down or get take out. The staff are very friendly and the food is always perfect. This is my favorite for Chinese food! I love that they have vegetarian potstickers, I haven’t found that anywhere else. I like their vegetarian chow mein and veggie egg rolls as well.
My husband and I wanted a whole Peking duck but couldn't find one around Pleasant Hill. Thought of going to Chinatown to buy one for our New Year's eve dinner but decided to call first and found this awesome place. William who answered the call was very professional and took my order. Then I called back to add more dishes: walnut prawns and Chinese broccoli. He was still very nice. The food was scrumptious...and the duck was like never before in other restaurants...so abundant that we have it again today 1.1.21 and still some left for tomorrow So much meat. Yay!!! Yum, Yum,... Thank you!!! Happy New Year!!! We are returning for sure!!!
Best Chinese restaurant in Concord! I have been coming here for years, and now my husband loves it too! service is fast and the food is delicious!! Highly recommend!
We had a group of ten and everyone in our group enjoyed the food. The food was fresh and delicious. The service was phenomenal. Definitely will come back.
Their food is excellent. Been coming here for over thirty years. The food has not changed in its amazing flavor and quality. Not a fancy place. So if that's your thing, this is probably not the place for you, But if you want good food, really recommend. Jackie is an amazing server!
My first time visiting. I came for lunch. They had a lovely selection of dishes, as well as wine and beer. I had green beans, my friend had cashew chicken. The dishes were served family style. Lunch came with soup and egg rolls. Everything was delicious. I'll be back to try some other dishes.
Great food! I ordered a veggie chow mein, hot and sour soup, sweet and sour fish fillet, and kung pao chicken. I highly recommend any of those. I will definitely come again and bring friends!
I found Shan Shan Low while looking for local places that prepare Peking Duck. Their version is good, but the skin wasn't as crisp as I would have liked. However there are lots of fantastic choices that they do have. Their chili oil has a great depth of flavor, which makes the Mapo Tofu one of my favorites. I also greatly enjoy most of their seafood offerings and the few pork dishes they make are all great. The Mongolian Beef is also quite good. If you happen to be in the area around lunch time, their specials are an excellent deal as well.
Indulge in a delightful dining experience with fresh, piping-hot food that's bursting with flavor! The service is exceptional, with friendly staff who go above and beyond to make your meal memorable.
My fam and I love this restaurant. Whenever we are in the concord area and craving some Chinese food this our go to place. The food and service are always top notch. Never disappoints and highly recommend
We went right after lunch, there was no wait. Tea was served directly upon seating, as well as iced water. I ordered chow fun with prawns which was amazing! The noodles were thick and chewy, not too greasy, and the server guy worked quickly with the kitchen to push my family’s orders out.
Food is very good. Service is generally quick and polite. The decor is is a bit aged, but not in bad shape. The dining room rarely seems busy, but I think they do a lot of business in take out (seems like there is always one or more people picking up an order). Good food, good prices, a nice place
The best Chinese food I've ever tasted. Decor is nice, prices are reasonable, they do a thriving take-out business. The peak of the experience is the service, which is unrivaled and dishes leave the kitchen rapidly. Everything they serve is high quality, my favorite is the General Tso's , but their chef's special, the Salt & Pepper Fish, is also outstanding. Note that the food is a little greasy, but in my book that's not a bad thing.
Great food, great prices and the best customer service around. Got there right at opening and got some free egg rolls & hot and sour soup. The server provided attentive service and even cracked a couple jokes. I left full and happy 😊
Food was so good. Service was good as well. Very satisfied. Relaxing place to eat it’s not loud you can hear the water fountains they have and it looks nice inside. My son said he gives it 5 starts.
Great tasting very favorable and great service
This place was amazing, easily one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve been at. The service was superb. The staff was super nice, and we got our food in about 5 minutes, which was one of the fastest serving times I’ve ever had. Every single dish we tried tasted great, and there was nearly no leftovers. I would recommend this place to anyone.
I recently dined at Shan Shan Low restaurant and had a fantastic experience! The Chinese food was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. We ordered egg fried rice, vegetable chow mein, Mongolian beef, and chicken with tofu, all of which were savory and delicious. While the restaurant has an older appearance, it is quite spacious and comfortable. The staff was nice and friendly, making our visit even more enjoyable. There’s plenty of parking available, and the location is great! I highly recommend Shan Shan Low and look forward to returning with friends and family.
Went into a seemingly modest establishment, looking for lunch. Was fully blown away by the quality of the food. Being it was my first time there, I hadn't given much thought into how it was gonna be. Believe me, there's nothing better than finding good food at a good price. The place had a calming feel to it as well.
Been coming here for 17 years. This place and food has not changed (in a good way). I always get the salt & pepper pork chops and they are always excellent. Service is quick.
We were at 99 ranch and their prepared food section was closed early so we looked around for something close by and settled on this restaurant. It was about 7pm on a Saturday and we were seated right away (part of 2). The portions are huge and the food is delicious. They give you some tea and water when you first sit down. My bf got the dinner for one (egg roll, won ton soup, rice and your choice of main, he chose general tsao). I got the vegetable chow mein and salt/pepper wings. The wings were so crunchy and the chow mein was so fresh! We had more than enough to take home and have 3 more servings. It came out to $59 plus tax. Highly recommend it!!
Great place always recommend one of my go too restaurants great service.foods always amazing

Shan Shan Low Restaurant is one of those rare places that quietly wins you over from the very first bite. Tucked away like a hidden treasure, this Chinese eatery manages to combine traditional flavors, generous portions, and warm hospitality in a way that keeps you thinking about your next visit long before you’ve even finished your meal. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a comforting blend of sizzling aromas—garlic hitting a hot wok, freshly steamed dumplings, and fragrant spices drifting through the air. The restaurant has a familiar, inviting ambiance: not overly fancy, but clean, cozy, and clearly run by people who pour heart and soul into their food. The Menu & The Food Shan Shan Low has a menu that hits all the classics but also offers dishes you don’t always find at standard Chinese restaurants. The variety is impressive, and the execution is even better. Their crispy orange chicken is a standout—perfectly fried without being greasy, with a glaze that’s sweet, tangy, and just citrusy enough to brighten every bite. The beef chow fun is rich, smoky, and packed with that perfect wok-char flavor that’s hard to find unless the chefs really know what they’re doing. The noodles are silky, the beef tender, and the vegetables crisp. If you’re a dim sum lover, their pork dumplings and shrimp shumai are absolute must-tries. They’re delicately wrapped, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The hot and sour soup has the ideal balance—spicy enough to warm you up, sour enough to make you crave another spoonful, and full of mushrooms, tofu, and bamboo shoots instead of being a thin broth like you get at lesser places. The house fried rice deserves a review of its own. Every grain is perfectly separated, never mushy, and generously loaded with fresh vegetables, egg, and your choice of protein. Their Kung Pao chicken packs just the right kick, with crunchy peanuts and vegetables that maintain their snap. If seafood is your thing, the salt and pepper shrimp is addictive—lightly battered, seasoned beautifully, and cooked so well that the shells practically melt away. The fish fillet with black bean sauce is another gem: savory, aromatic, and cooked to a tender flakiness. Service & Atmosphere One thing that sets Shan Shan Low apart is the service. The staff is attentive without being overbearing. They’re quick with refills, happy to make recommendations, and incredibly accommodating if you have dietary preferences or questions about the dishes. There’s a sense of genuine hospitality here—like they’re proud of what they serve and want you to enjoy every part of your meal. The atmosphere is relaxed, family-friendly, and welcoming. Whether you’re dropping in for a casual lunch, ordering takeout, or sitting down for a big family dinner, you always feel comfortable and taken care of. Value Portions are large enough to share (or enjoy as delicious leftovers later), but prices are more than reasonable. Quality-wise, you’re getting food that tastes homemade but executed with professional skill—fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and consistent cooking. Overall Shan Shan Low Restaurant is one of those places that reminds you why you love Chinese cuisine. It’s flavorful, generous, comforting, and thoughtfully prepared. Every dish feels like it has its own story, and you can tell the chefs cook with intention rather than just following recipes. Whether you’re in the mood for a simple bowl of noodles, a hearty family-style dinner, or a feast of multiple courses, this place does not disappoint. It’s the kind of restaurant you visit once and then immediately add to your regular rotation. If you haven’t been to Shan Shan Low yet, treat yourself. Come hungry, bring friends or family if you can, and prepare to leave full, happy, and with a new favorite spot for Chinese food. If you want, I can also adjust the review to be funnier, more formal, shorter, or tailored for Yelp, Google, or social media.
Man, I can't believe I have not ordered food / dined in from this place since moving to the East Bay 6 years ago. I ordered several orders to-go and brought them back home. We were amazed of how good their food is. I will be ordering from this place from now on. 👍🏽
We've loved Shan Shan Low forever. The honey wanut shrimp had amazingly succulent prawns, a delicate yet crunchy coating, and light and delicious glaze.
I tried the veggie chow mean and mandarin chicken, both were delicious! Great service, food cane out hot and fresh. Would recommend this place.

I order the mongolian beef, sweet and sour pork, and thin noodle chicken chow mein. It's a pretty good place considering how many chinese restaurants I have experienced here and abroad that are less than mediocre. It's getting quite expensive though. Take out service is ready within 15 minutes of ordering.
Very accommodating. My 5YO grandson is very particular with hia Chinese food. They allowed us to bring in McDonald's for him.
We do both to go and dine in , Food is always good , hot n made with fresh ingredients . Veggies are cooked perfect in every dish Service is quick if you need it to be. lots of food for the money
We ordered General Tsao Chicken (house specialty), Mongolian Beef, Chicken Chow Mein, and Dumplings. Personally, I’m not big on breaded or fried meat, so I wasn’t especially fond of the General Tsao or Mongolian Beef. My boyfriend thought the Mongolian Beef was good and had a nice spicy hot kick to it. I enjoyed the Chicken Chow Mein, the chicken was juicy and fresh, overall good flavor. The dumplings were good, but I think those are better to eat when dining in, versus to-go.
First timer here at this restaurant, but definitely no stranger to Chinese cuisine or dining experience. Service is fast and friendly, and more attentive than other similar restaurants. Menu is pretty standard. Flavors generally vary between restaurants, obviously, this one having a more southern Chinese flare. We had potstickers (not my favorite - thin skin and a bit soggy), chicken chao mein (tasty), Mongolian beef (excessively salty), and curry chicken (tasty). The soup and spring rolls at the beginning were good. Crispy spring rolls with a sweet/sour dipping sauce. Price is about standard as well.
This is based solely on the medium sized hot and sour soup. Not the best I've had but pretty decent. Lots of bamboo shoots, and tofu that make it filling. Definitely could have used more meat. The soup base is warm from what I believe is heavy use of black pepper. I love black pepper so I enjoy this flavor. Consistency of the soup is good. Would for sure get again
03/09/22 @5 PM It is quite a restaurant. Plenty of indoor sitting low lightning, would pass for a date setting. Seems most of their orders are online to go. So inside is pretty free. Make sure you tell them you are dine in so they can seat you asap. They offer hot tea when you sit. Ordered the plum wine which is known for being sweet. [Kinsen] Side rice is plain so you know nothing is added. A plus for me. Although it did taste not as fresh. Grain seems to be jasmine. For app i Ordered some Boiled Meat Dumplings Pretty good very hot [temp] even better with soy sauce. For the main i ordered the Hot Braised Beef Stewed - came in a nice bowl still bubbling from how hot it is. Flavour was good a bit on the saltier side but you can taste hints of different spices, meat was a mix of lean and fatty pieces, with the side of rice this was a good dish. It is on the mild side. Both app and main dish had stronger taste of ginger and garlic i enjoyed it. Server was nice not bothering while eating. They do only give you one napkin to start so dont be messy? They offer 1 more if you ask. Overall decent experience.
I enjoyed my meal here. The food was delicious. The waiter was professional and attentive. I liked that they provided fork in case one didnt know how to use the chopsticks. Overall good experience
Ambiance is typical of a Chinese restaurant. I did like that their menu included other dishes from different regions. I was pleased that their spicy dishes were actually spicy!! Server was friendly and hospitable, checked in with us and refilled our drinks. The bathroom was clean!! 😊

My son and I went for an early Xmas dinner, and this place was actually pretty good. It's your stereotypical established Chinese restaurant. The portions were good, and the food tasted pretty good. We had 3 different entrees including noodles (long life and all that). All three did not disappoint. The "good", the food and service. The "bad", the restaurant needs a reno. I think the last time they did anything was probably back in the 90s when they opened this place. So, if you just happened to be in Concord, and need a decent Chinese restaurant, check out this place. You won't disappointed. It's authentic and affordable.

$60 after tip for five items. Overall, not mind blowing or disappointed. Would probably give it a 3.5-4 if it was about $10 less in total. Chow fun - Very bland Mixed veggies (mushroom/bok Choi) - tasty, little pricey for what it is. Broccoli beef - about as standard and acceptable as you can imagine Dan Dan noodles - Spicy, pretty decent. Not too much meat. Mandarin Fried Chicken - Probably the best out of the meal. Tasty and crispy. They are smart enough to send it out in a to-go box with a hole in the top to release the steam and reduce some of the sogginess effect.

I decided to choose this restaurant due to its positive ratings so I was excited to try this place out. But unfortunately when I came home from my to go order (a 10 min drive) , my hot and sour soup was like warm as well as my entrees that I had ordered. Also, I feel like there was a certain seasoning that was missing in all items. They just tasted pretty bland.

The pork chow mein was okay and they did not make my Mandarin fried chicken not spicy like I asked. potstickers super small and not cooked correctly. Definitely will not get them ever again. Really disappointed considering what they charge for these potstickers did not even fill up half a box with six Absolutely the smallest potstickers that I've ever gotten anywhere lazily wrapped with hardly any filling just super underwhelming

Whenever I decide to try a new Chinese restaurant, I test them by ordering the most basic items that they have. If these items tasted good, then it meant that the rest of the menu should be decent as well. I went with the Orange chicken and chow mein, and they were both mediocre at best. These places should easily be able to surpass Panda Express, but the panda won this one, by a landslide. I would honestly say that China Palace in Walnut Creek is significantly better than this place, and that is just based off the Orange chicken.

I've been coming to shan shan low for the better part of 15 years. Before covid was the last time I had eaten here Service for a pick up order was super prompt and courteous. But my food was, not good. I saw this regretfully but the quality dropped off massively. After a 5 min drive home My pot stickers melted in the box and some of the mest wasn't fully cooked. Half of the general chicken order wasn't breaded. The Mongolian beef was soggy which is weird cause it's also a stir fry dish.
I’m sorry I didn’t order a side of disrespect with my potato salad
Twice now I've gotten reheated food. Even though I specifically asked for cooked to order.. Because it has happened before needed to make more money. It's not hard to tell when they're reheating food because it's not as hot and it's not as tender. I'm thinking about calling the Board of Health on them serving reused food. And I really like this restaurant other than this giant problem and I have been going here for a very long time it just burns me up. I came home 5 minutes later and my food was already cold which means it wasn't cooked it was reheated badly even badly. I thought maybe I had reviewed them before or something. But know this is the first time. I won't be going back here ever again. Shame cuz I really did like this restaurant
