Great place to unwind after a workday, specially for happy hour. Chill vibe, friendly staff, able to talk, enjoying a nice night out.
Walked by this place a thousand times and so glad I stepped in last month. Great, warm service, great happy hour deals and the pasta and salads were delicious. The waiter and bartenders were very accommodating and the bar scene is filled with regulars - all a good sign.
We love this place! We always sit at the bar where the fantastic server helps ensure that everything about our meal is perfect, delicious and fun. From happy hour Montepulciano to pizza to calzone to broccoli arab - we feast and drink and laugh. Tonight we even got special Amaro de capo. Salud! And thank you! We will return!
Tried the San matteo burger to go and it was tasty! The caramelised onions add more depth of flavour to balance the beef flavour. Note that they use a different type of bun though. The wedges were good too. Would personally have liked more cheese in the burger. Would come again to check out the pizza
You really get that true Italian vibe here, warm, friendly service and, most of all, authentic flavors. Everything we tried was honestly delicious. I loved that the menu has both classic Italian dishes and Italian-American favorites, and they were all done really well. Ciro (the owner) also came by to say hello and chat for a bit, super nice and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Definitely recommended. We’ll 100% be back!
Went to visit our son in NYC and do all the tourist stuff, tree, Bryant Park, etc and figured he would know of a good place to grab a bite. Well he sure did! We went back up to near his apartment on the upper east side where he made a reservation at San Matteo. Atmosphere was great, hostess was very accommodating as we arrived 15 minutes early to catch some of the Eagles football game at the bar, waitress was personable, sweet and quick to answer questions. I ended up ordering the San Matteo burger, yea at an Italian restaurant i ordered a burger but my son said it was well worth it. He was right! Besides, I stole a taste of the Chicken Parm from my daughter and it too was equally delicious. The apps were equally as good. In the end, all 6 of us had a great experience. Definitely a place we will go to on our next visit with my son.
Service was quick! Pizza was deeeelicious! Arrinicini was a bit too big and I find the larger size makes it too easy to be dry However, the MEATBALLS? I could do 2 orders of that. Plus the sauce was soooo tasty. If I had to go again, definitely to try more of the pizzas and get the meatballs. Especially because you can save the meatballs and sauce for pasta that you can make at home!
Incredible experience! The white pizza with buffalo mozzarella, ricotta cheese, jalapeños, bruschetta, and hot honey sauce was absolutely delicious & perfectly balanced flavors with just the right kick. Sat at the bar, and Otman, the bartender, was phenomenal and super knowledgeable. Excellent service and atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Finding a restaurant in NYC that can accommodate a group of 12 and is reasonably priced can be a challenge, but San Matteo was the perfect spot for our birthday dinner. The service was exceptional—attentive, friendly, and welcoming. We were seated upstairs, where the atmosphere was relaxed, avoiding the typical moodiness you get at other restaurants. We tried both the pasta and pizza specials of the night, and they were outstanding—flavorful, fresh, and of high quality. I highly recommend San Matteo for anyone looking for great food and a comfortable, inviting setting.
Always a 5 start experience here at the bar or seated in the restaurant, alone, on a date or with a group. We celebrated a ladies night reunion here, and had exceptional, attentive service to make sure we left on time for our show. It was early so we enjoyed a spot to the right of the restaurant enjoying plenty of windows. Lots of space, a welcoming and rustic atmosphere. There is a broad menu of cocktails, legit Italian pizza and food, esp with the specials! It was very hard to choose! For 6 people, we enjoyed 4 pizzas, a pasta, a couple of salads. We also had the brussel sprouts (decent, but we didn't realize they were roasted!). Food was served hot the waitstaff is fast with requests. Make a reservation, enjoy the authentic Italian pizza! We'll be back!!
Amazing pizza crust and friendly staffs! Definitely go back here and try other pizza choices the have! Prices are not cheap but not very unfair! Tiramisu and coffee were decent but not exceptional! The only point to improve is the sanity of the restroom as they only have one restroom and it wasn’t clean when I dined over there!
Simply amazing amazing food. The pizzas are the best high quality “fancy style” pizzas in NYC! The crust is nice and crunchy and has little burned tips just amazing. They have a wide selection of delicious apps and drink/wine selections. The staff are friendly attentive and super amazing. I ended up ordering delivery a week later! Highly recommended.
We looked a lot for a great pizza 🍕 place and found San Matteo. The place is amazing 😍 and would recommend to reserve a table ahead of your visit. The quality of ingredients is amazing. The appetizer with the ham, buffalo, tomatoes and Rucola was insane and already enough. We had one extra pizza 🍕. It was great but we had better ones I have to say but still high level of quality! Definitely a place to visit.
Nice quaint little spot. Food was great! Service was fantastic! Our server, Dexter ( I really hope that’s correct ) was not only polite and pleasant, but extremely personable, witty, and charismatic. Not overbearing or pushy by any means. A++ service! Pizza was nice and light, ingredients were fresh! Our Arugula Salad was also very tasty and very fresh. I also enjoyed the spices on the calamari very much. Overall great experience and another part of what made our New York trip with our first born son a very memorable one! Many thanks!
The start of our meal here wasn’t great because we had a reservation but the restaurant overbooked by a ton. Waited a full half hour to be seated for our reservation, which was disappointing but the hostess was working hard to make things work for everyone! The food was incredible, we had the Ravioli (so good), the margarita pizza, and the Burrata & Prosciutto. The absolute best part of our experience here though was our sweet and fun waitress, Carmella! She was amazing!!
Good brick oven Neapolitan style pizzas. I tried their white pizza special with sausage, ricotta, mozzarella and hot honey which was good as well as the classic margherita pizza. The porcini tagliatelle pasta was creamy and tasty as well. The servers were decent. There wasn't enough seating by the window so we had to sit on the high tops.
We stopped here during our road trip hoping for authentic Italian food. The food itself was genuinely good and tasted authentic, but unfortunately the overall experience was disappointing. The prices felt incredibly high for what was offered, and the service really affected the vibe. We felt unwelcome from the start—there was a passive-aggressive tone, and staff repeatedly hovered and checked over our shoulders. What made it more uncomfortable was noticing that an Italian family seated behind us received noticeably warmer and more attentive service, while our experience felt rushed and cold. Good food alone couldn’t make up for the lack of hospitality. If service had matched the quality of the food, this could have been a great stop.
Sad I have to do this. I love a Neapolitan-style pizza, and it was my go-to pizzeria, although I have to say I would usually order a take out. Last night I’ve ordered their porcini&truffle pizza, and I received a pizza with maybe 1 porcini overall. The thin slices of that poor one mushroom were spread over pizza, so I had maybe 4-5 slices of porcini on the WHOLE pizza. Totally not worth the money. Big disappointment for me, because I used to order at least twice a month from them.
