That was some authentic Kerala food! So soulful! They even have chakkapuzhukku (boiled jackfruit with spices and coconut) 🤤 with fish curry. My husband ordered fish meals. Both were scrumptious! We’re definitely coming back again! Thanks to the owners too! They’ve done a wonderful job in representing Kerala food in LA! ❤️
This restaurant offers all the familiar favorites you’d expect from an Indian menu in the West -- but what truly sets it apart is its commitment to authentic preparation. Every dish feels like a faithful rendition of its regional roots. You’ll find the same Thalassery biriyani or mutton roast you’d taste in Kannur or Calicut, right here in Culver City. It’s remarkable that a restaurant this specialized has earned such widespread recognition, including multiple Michelin honors. We’ll definitely be back soon!
The first thing that impresses you is the cleanliness of the space and tables. The place was properly ventilated as well. The butter chicken tasted meaty like a “rendang” dish from south east asia, the extra time the coconut milk took to reduce and caramelise shows that a lot of patience had been put into it. The plating and plates are really simple and clean which gives a spiritual feeling to the dining experience. Maybe thats how the owner intended, to enable a more intentional and mindful eating experience. Lastly when I told my server the chai tea was abit hot and he took the liberty to pour the tea from one cup to another to cool it down which created a foam on top and made it tastier. Would want to try a local kerala dish there the next time.
Mayura Restaurant is simply outstanding! The food here is super duper good – every dish is bursting with authentic flavors and cooked to perfection. What makes the experience even more special is the excellent hospitality. The owners are extremely communicative, attentive, and genuinely careful about making sure every guest feels welcomed and satisfied. The restaurant itself is very clean, tidy, and has a pleasant atmosphere that makes dining here comfortable and enjoyable. Altogether, it’s the perfect spot if you want amazing Indian food paired with warm service and a neat setting. Highly recommended – Mayura Restaurant is a true gem!
We absolutely love Mayura! The staff is always so genuinely friendly and welcoming, and you can really feel that it’s a family-owned business that takes pride in what they do. The food is simply exquisite — the flavors are truly like a party in your mouth. Every dish is beautifully prepared and full of depth and richness. I especially love the butter chicken and the masala dosa, but honestly, everything we’ve tried has been consistently amazing. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic, flavorful Indian food and warm hospitality!
Have been here many times on my own or with friends and family and the food is always amazing! Went this year for onam sadhya and it was 👍🏽👍🏽. The whole family and then some were there serving and ensuring guests were seated and enjoying the feast. Fabulous food as always and never disappointed to visit here.
Excellent South Indian restaurant!! The flavors and dishes were delicious! We ordered fish thali, chili onion tomato uttapam and Malabar goat coconut roast. We found out about this restaurant from our friends who are from Kerala and they catered food from here for their wedding. Very diverse crowd of customers as well. Will definitely be coming back!
I’ve come to this restaurant several times over the past 20+ years, and each time I find the food gets better. When you look around in the restaurant, you see the patrons from different countries and ethnicities enjoying the delicious meals offered at Mayura. Being originally from Kerala, it is a pleasure to have and experience this wonderful, unique cuisine in SoCal.
People often ask me for my favorite Indian restaurants in LA and for a long time I didn't have a response other than to drive out to Artesia. So I dug back into some online research and decided to try Mayura based on the photo of the Thali I saw. My father is Indian and I grew up deeply in Indian culture and cuisine. I've also spent 3-4 years of my life traveling India and visiting family. I know what's good and authentic. Let me tell you, this restaurant is the closest you'll get to real Indian food in all of LA. They are from Kerala so I recommend you take the trip to south India on their menu and stay away from the americanized dishes you've been fed at most Indian restaurants. Even better I highly encourage you to order one of their three Thalis. You'll get a little bit of everything. Also order porotta as your bread choice. Don't order the sweet lassi, get the savory drink chaas, spiced buttermilk. I ordered the fish curry Thali and let me tell you it's the real deal. I live here now...
My colleagues chose this place, in part because of the high ratings. I think they earned it through: * Authentic Kerala dishes much like how it is in India, according to one colleague * Memorable strong, bold flavours * Very enjoyable Pakora, Samosas and my delightful Mango dhal curry with Shrimp * Equally impressive Dosa, Lamb Tikka Masala and Biryani * A huge menu that has something for everyone * Fast, friendly service and kitchen turnover * Generous portions for the price point * A relaxed atmosphere that lets diners focus on the food and conversations It's truly all rounded in all the factors that make a good restaurant. The place quickly filled up soon after we arrived, a testament to its popularity. I hope many diners continue to support this local gem.
We came to Mayura that was recommended by a friend, who had said that it was as close to Indian food outside of India. Luckily her recommendation had come right when my daughter had asked for chicken tikka masala for her birthday dinner. Parking is a bit tough. The food and service was impeccable. I have been looking for a restaurant that serves goat or lamb korma and this place hit the spot. I can’t wait to bring more friends here.
The tall handsome man was very friendly and recommended some great dishes. The sweet lady at the counter got us seated quickly and her chill vibes rubbed off on us through the entirety of our dining visit. The tikka? Amazing. The naan? Top notch. The mango lassi? Dont even get me started.. we will be back very soon for the atmosphere, the food, and the beautiful people that work here
We ordered thalaserry Mutton Biriyani, Kappa& Fish Curry, Mysore Masala Dosa. The best indian food we had in LA. They keep the authentic taste of each food just like how we get from its orgin. Their filter coffee was incredible. Lovely owners, very attentive people in service. Just like home :)
🌟 Review: Super Food Indian Restaurant A soul-satisfying feast! The Indian Thali was absolutely delightful — a vibrant spread that felt like a celebration. Don’t miss the Fish Curry and Chicken Curry, both rich in flavor and cooked to perfection. But the real showstopper? The Coconut Chicken Roast — tender, aromatic, and bursting with coastal spice. Pair it with the Kerala Parotta, which is soft, flaky, and beautifully layered. It’s a match made in culinary heaven. This place doesn’t just serve food — it serves motherly love on a plate, with generous portions and heartfelt hospitality. One of the best restaurants for anyone craving authentic Indian comfort with a touch of home.
Absolutely the most authentic and tasty Indian food I've ever had! Everything had so much flavor and the portions were large for the price. Wish I could have tried everything on the menu ❤️ Fish curry (salmon) was creamy and falling apart tender, sauce was out of this world. Appam was crispy and on point. Myself and my friends all loved our food. Highly recommend this place. Dec 2025 UPDATE Service rating changed from 5 star to 1 Food rating changed from 5 star to 3 My friends and I were very excited to revisit this place. It had been 10 months since we were last here. We left extremely disappointed. Service was horrible. We had no water at the table for 15+ minutes. No napkins or dishes or utensils. We had to ask and beg for these things. Service rarely checked in on us. Place was very reserved about how many napkins they gave. When we asked for more napkins, the guy gave us serious attitude as if our request was beyond unreasonable. The appam was not crispy or cooked as well as last time. And the fishy curry was so hot (spicy) that my friend and I struggled to make it through our meals. The menu showed no chili pepper logo next to the fish curry, so the spice should have been mild. Not sure why it was burning hot, my friend and I were sweating and in tears after a few bites. We had ordered the exact same dish last time, and it was NOT that spicy. Owner seemed irritated during checkout, as if us paying for our individual meals was too much of an ordeal for them. We all left zero tip, and we won't be coming back.
Could not get enough of the chicken tiki masala, the meat was cooked to perfect tenderness and the service was on point! Felt like a family business with everyone checking in on you and dropping food. Just a big heads up, the Indian chai is traditional and not sweet so don’t come in expecting a latte.
Amazing South Indian food. Tried the red fish curry with porotta and appam, blew us away with the depth of flavor and quality. Mango lassi was deliciously slurpable, light, yet heavier on the yogurt with a light whipped texture, perfect for spicy food pairing. Good chai. Amazing chicken biryani. Ras malai is delectable, sweet, refreshing. Service is stellar, and the woman owner goes around to each table to check in with guests, a wonderful moment to connect with the one who makes this all happen. Coming again!
What a true treat and gem. If you're looking for your default dishes and some exciting treats from the southern regions of India, you've come to the right place. It's touted as the best Indian in LA and I surely agree! The Kerala fish dishes are fantastic and leave you yearning for more, especially with all the hotness that opens up your appetite. The fried chicken and biryani's were also delectable.
This restaurant ! So good ! Be it the people, be it the food, be it the location, everything about this place is amazing. The food reminded me of warm and comforting South Indian food. We had lots of food including traditional Kerala meals, Salmon red fish curry, classic Malabar Porotta and Beef fry, the fish fry, the Malabar Mutton Biriyani and tea. Each and every item tasted so good. The staff and owners all were so loving and friendly. The restaurant ambience is cool as well with photos of many celebrities who visited the restaurant, the innumerable awards they won and its neat and tidy. If you want to find the best Kerala food/India food, this is a must must visit.
I read the reviews & I was weary to try this place, but OMG, it was absolutely delicious. And the service was unmatched! On a Saturday when it's super busy, they were attentive to each of the customers and always came to check on us. Even the owners walk around to make sure you're good! Sujit our server was great! We are vegetarian and for 4 of us, we ordered veg samosa, medhu vada, podi idli, spinach dosa, mysore dosa, and the tomato onion green chili uttapam. I rarely would say this but every single item was BEYOND delicious! The sambhar and chutneys were also amazing! The only thing I would skip is the spinach dosa! Medhu Vada - 15/10!!! Podi Idli - 15/10!!! Mysore Dosa - 15/10!!! Uttapam - 10/10! Veg Samosa - 10/10! Spinach Dosa - 5/10
10/10 Quality in food, service, and atmosphere! We were seated right away for a late lunch on a Saturday. While it was busy and bustling we were consistently checked on throughout our meal by multiple staff, even the owner! She ended up being the one to take our order as well as closing our check, she was such a pleasure! Come here with respect and kindness and you will be met with the same. The food was delicious, we ordered a variety of dishes (came here hungry, definitely suggest you do the same!) the prices are very reasonable for the quality and size you get. What we had can easily be shared for 2-4 people, spent around $80 total (not including tip). Since it is Culver City, prepare to wait for parking or drive a few laps around to wait for a spot to open along the street or in the small plaza, the patience is worth it!
Food was very tasty. We are living in USA for five years. This is a very subtle and flavorful Indian restaurant food we have tried so far. Parotta was very soft. Curry was very balanced. My kid loved the ghee roast. The sambar was kerala style but we liked it. The owner family is very hospitable and kind in treating us. I highly recommend this restaurant.
This is the very first Kerala restaurant I dined at in the US and it did not disappoint. The Chicken 65 was on point, tasted just like back home! The Parotta was very soft and flaky as well. I was craving some authentic Kerala Biriyani and ordered Thalassery chicken biriyani. The aroma was great although I felt it was a bit different from the biriyani I have eaten from the OG Thalassery itself. But it still tasted great and was packed with flavour. The food, in general, felt very gentle on our stomach which was great especially since we were travelling! Wish I could try more dishes, but unfortunately I don’t live in CA! The service was great and the ambience is top- notch. Really enjoyed dining at Mayura and would highly recommend it!!!
Coming from Sweden, where authentic South Indian food options are limited, Mayura was an absolute treat! I ordered the lamb curry and parotta, while my family went with the vegetarian thali — every dish was bursting with flavor and perfectly spiced. The food arrived quickly, and we didn’t even notice the wait as we admired the wall full of celebrity photos 😊. The ambience adds to the charm, and the hospitality is warm and welcoming. A complete 5-star experience…delicious food, great service, and a true taste of South India right here in Los Angeles!
One of the best Indian restaurants in Culver City, so it's a must go if you are in the area. Food is spicy, so watch for kids. Mango lassi was really good.
Great place. It is difficult to find parking, but it’s gonna be worth it. Also, the owner was great. I believe she’s in her late 60s but she came to our table and asked if we needed anything (simple things matter).
Good place to have delicious south Indian food. Tried Kerala parata with lamb korma, lamb biriyani, fish dish in banana leaf and tandoori chicken. All of the dishes was delicious. Though it is a little expensive, worth the money. Must try if you're in LA
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely loved the food at Mayura Indian Restaurant! Everything was next-level delicious 🤤🔥 The dosas were perfectly crispy, light, and packed with flavor, served with amazing chutneys and sambar. The clay pot biryani was insanely good — rich aroma, perfect spice balance, and full of authentic South Indian taste. Portions were generous, presentation was beautiful, and every bite felt fresh and satisfying. Hands down one of the best South Indian food spots in LA. On top of the incredible food, the staff was extremely kind, attentive, and welcoming. Service was quick, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. 💯 Must-visit if you love real, authentic Indian food! 🇮🇳✨
Excellent Indian restaurant with rich, authentic flavors and a welcoming atmosphere. The dishes were perfectly spiced, aromatic, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. Portions were generous, and the menu offered a great variety of options. Friendly, attentive service made the experience even better. A wonderful spot for a flavorful, satisfying meal.
The food, ambiance and hospitality here are exceptional. Tonight we dined in and enjoyed the delicious samosa chaat, butter chicken, lamb tikka masala and garlic naan. Everything was perfect. If you’re craving Indian food, Mayura is it!
To start, the food was wonderful! I have never tasted such a sweet and enjoyable dahi vada, and the flavors of the egg curry were perfectly balanced. The kulcha parathas remained soft and warm our whole visit. The samosas had a flavorful, mushy filling that paired perfectly with the rich chutneys. Even the mango juice was perfect! Other than food, the service was great and they had very good customer service. Our waitress was efficient and helped us a lot in choosing our order. The owner’s themselves were in the restaurant and asked us how the food was. They had such bright smiles and were clearly experienced and professional. The atmosphere was of a classic Indian restaurant, making it feel homely and fresh. Overall, I am not surprised this restaurant has Michelin stars
So amazing! The food is always incredible. The butter masala dosa was a must. Aloo Gobi is a staple, plenty of vegetarian options with so much flavor. If you’re looking for a comfortable, cozy and flavorful meal, this is it!!
Absolutely LOVED this place! We got the Fish Curry with Appam, Raita, and vegetable soup - everything was SO delicious and I’m excited to come back and try more! Our server was so sweet as well, she recognized by scrubs and asked which unit o worked on. Then after our dinner she gave us a complimentary Mango Lassi on the house! Thank you Mayura, seem you again soon!

This place is worth a visit. The Keralian taste of the food was just wow. I feel this restaurant is successful as the owners Padmini and Aniyan everyday personally takes interest in day to day running of this restaurant.

Food and service is good but there is inadequate lighting inside and the tables are shaky. They put a pile of plates and silverware on your table and expect that you set the table for yourself. They also have a refridgerator in the dining room next to the table. But maybe these are all signs of a good Indian reataurant?
What I loved most about Mayura was the feeling that it was a real family business. It was spotlessly clean and everyone was very kind and welcoming. It was my first time trying Southern Indian cuisine so I let my dining partner do the ordering, though I insisted on at least getting some butter chicken, which I know is not a regional specialty. Idly- these were very different and interesting but the flavor profile didn’t work for me and the dipping sauces were also too spicy for me, though I need things to be VERY mild. Onion Uthappam - this reminded me somewhat of a scallion pancake and I enjoyed it. Aloo Palak - this warm, savory spinach dish was very good Butter chicken - yum, but a tiny bit too spicy for my taste Porotta - this multi-layered bread was the highlight for me! Absolutely delicious!! Appam - This spongy bread was fine but I wouldn’t choose it again Chapathi - this wheat bread was very good
One of the best Indian places we have tried so far, glad to stop by on our road trip. The best part is the owner coming themselves not only for the order but also double checking on the food, taste etc. Would definitely recommend.
We ordered Gobi Manchurian and Veg Fried Rice. The food tasted good, though the Gobi Manchurian was not crispy. We also felt the portion size was small for the price, making it seem a bit expensive. That said, the restaurant ambience was good and pleasant. Overall, a decent experience, but pricing and portion size could be improved.
The food here was.. just fine. The dining area is equally unremarkable. The parotta (paratha) tasted stale, more like a frozen one reheated and served lukewarm. I genuinely don't understand how this place held a Michelin star up until 2023 (why is a tire company rating restaurants anyway?) The staff were courteous enough. Being served room temperature water was unusual, although ice was available upon request. What did make me slightly uncomfortable was how some servers held the plates with their thumbs almost inside the dish instead of holding it from the bottom. The biggest issue, however, was hygiene. Two servers had noticeable body odor, and every time they walked past our table, they left a cloud of strong BO. It's so disappointing to see stereotypes playing out in real life.

WARNING - The rating is a scam! We decided to try Mayura after seeing 11,000+ reviews and a 4.9 rating on Google, but unfortunately our experience was very disappointing. We ordered Medu Vada, Gobi Manchurian, Mysore Sada Dosa, and Mysore Masala Dosa. • Medu Vada: extremely oily, it tasted like it had been fried twice. The oiliness overpowered everything else. • Gobi Manchurian: again very oily, to the point where squeezing it released visible oil. The usual Manchurian flavor was completely lost. • Mysore Sada Dosa: arrived cold and was overly spicy, without the typical Mysore dosa flavor. • Mysore Masala Dosa: this arrived 20 minutes after the Sada dosa. The dosa itself was soggy rather than crispy, although the potato masala filling was decent. The Mysore chutney tasted more like spicy podi rather than an actual Mysore chutney. Both the coconut and tomato chutneys seemed watered down, and the coconut chutney was very salty. Service also wasn’t great, it was difficult to get attention from staff, and despite the restaurant being busy, the wait felt long considering the quality of what we were served. With the extremely high rating online, we expected an excellent experience, but sadly the food quality and consistency really missed the mark for us. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT!
We had high expectations from this place but it was a huge let down. Summary: Very high wait time, poor service, difficult parking, average food. This place is extremely popular ( reason we were there) but they are not equipped to meet the high demand. We had to wait 45 minutes to get a table, all the while we could see empty tables inside. Same person managing the counter, payments and assigning tables. It was pure CHAOS. We had to wait 45 minutes to get our food. We had to remind the servers, the manager ( although she was apologetic nonetheless it was poor service), nearly everyone for our food. We had ordered special thali and appam and curry. The food was authentic, tasted good but nothing out of ordinary or nothing that cannot be cooked at home. The pricing is bit too high considering the overall experience. No wonder they lost the Michelin recommendation. Hope they improve the management.
