*Nostalgic sigh* I grew up with Johnnie's. Once or twice a month, my mom would take me here for a sandwich, and it's a place I always revisit whenever I'm in town. I order the exact same thing every time: hot Pastrami sandwich (nothing added), side of fries, side of coleslaw. Perfection. I don't think I've even tried any of their other offerings. Don't need to: the hot Pastrami is enough. The vibe is a classic LA diner complete with vintage jukeboxes and checkered tablecloths, but not in that cheesy or forced "Johnny Rockets" kind of way. Johnnie's has kept its charm exactly the same for the 30 years I've known it. My only complaint would be the cost in recent years, but I blame California for this. Johnnie's is an absolute must if you want to experience the best hot Pastrami in town.
Love this old school spot. Since 1952! All the servers and cooks are friendly and their pastrami hits. Going to try the chili dogs and. The steak sandwich next time!
Excellent across the board..... from the minute you step into the nicely set-up outdoor patio. You are greeted by friendly smiles & atmosphere. I grew up in Culver City & Johnnie's Pastrami is the 1st dining spot I highlight to everyone/anyone. On this occasion I took my wife & promised her the best pastrami sandwich she's ever had. Mission accomplished, she said dining area both inside/out were extremely clean & our server Carla provided us with exceptional customer service. The cooks are friendly & everyone is so welcoming. The food portions are plentiful & selection is great. If you haven't tried Johnnie's pastrami YOU ARE MISSING OUT! I promise you, you will be more than satisfied & you will share your experience with others!
Hot pastrami sandwich...with mustard & pickles! They have those little yellow(hot) chillies too. It was D'lish😋 The atmosphere was perfect for eat there or grab n go..it is a very small space & the employees are very pleasant. Quick service & Pie too(sorry I didn'tnotice flavors)! I didn't have room for pie because they put over a pound of pastrami in those sandwiches(I think 🤭), but Price was worth the sandwich!
I grabbed a Pastrami. Even after a 30-minute drive home, it was all still super tasty and fresh. The service is fast, but sometimes they get really swamped. You can order online or by phone, and they started taking cards about 4 years ago, so no more cash-only. The patio and inside seating have this cool, old-school cozy vibe. No fancy stuff, just awesome food in a comfy spot, and those fire pits are a nice touch when you're eating outside. Next time, I'm gonna eat there and soak up the atmosphere with my delicious meal.
We did a take out for a pastrami sandwich and my friend asked the store to keep the ingredients separate so that it doesn’t get soggy. After I placed 4” thick of meat on 8” long bread, there was still same amount off meat left (in the container) that I didn’t have space on the bread lol. They also provide a container of meat juice to add more moisture to the meat if desired. Result…… one super awesome pastrami sandwich! Hahahaha……
This pastrami place has been around since 1952. Walking in feels like you are time traveling into the past. The jukebox machine actually still works! One other thing you’ll notice is that there is a very kind, family atmosphere among the staff here. The pastrami I had today was something I have not tried before. The pastrami is boiled in an au ju sauce. This made the pastrami very juicy! It is so good! The 1/2 sandwich was $13, it was stacked to the brim and was such a great value for money. They do have outdoor seating with a fire pit in middle. Seems like a nice place to hang out next time. I like that they also have ample parking at the back.
I love this place!!! I'm on a trip to Southern California and had to make an early morning stop at an LA camera store. So, of course, I missed breakfast and was starving by 11:30. All at once I see a sign for Johnnie's - French Dip Pastrami sandwich. I know it's not going to be Katz's pastrami but I need to eat. WHAT A FIND I sat at the counter next to the slices of pie. I had my sandwich in under 2 minutes and was full of goodness 5 minutes later.
It can‘t get more American, loved the vibe, the people & enjoyed every bit/e!
Went to Johnnie’s Pastrami in Culver City after watching an online review about top pastrami spots. I got there just before the lunch rush and ordered the hot pastrami plate (piled high with juicy meat) along with fries and coleslaw. My tip: ask for the spicy mustard, it adds a perfect kick. I had a Coke too, and yes, they’ve got crushed ice, my favorite. Glad I beat the crowd, because it’s a small place with big charm. The mini jukeboxes on the tables (2 songs for a quarter) really complete the old-school diner vibe. Definitely worth a visit if you love classic spots and great pastrami. Stop by if you are in the area!
Loved the place gave a vintage feeling . The servers were super friendly and attentive . We got the world famous pastrami and it was worth every penny . Would definitely recommend . The meat is premium quality .
Everything we order was delicious. We love coming here. They are always very friendly
Easily the best pastrami sandwich I’ve had in LA so far. Really cool retro vibe. Edit- better than The Hat? Eh, on par with it. Both are incredible!
Wow this place is amazing! The portions are ridiculous. I could not finish my meal. The pastrami was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted before so delicious. I love to sit outside by the fire pit, even though it doesn’t work, but it’s still a nice little atmosphere. Highly recommended will definitely be a frequent and returning customer
The Pastrami is delicious and definitely deserves the hype it gets. The chilli is very delicious. And if you love pickles make sure to them on the side. You won't regret it.
Best crunchy taco in LA don’t @me! I have been eating at Tito’s since I was a little girl. I still remember their commercial jingle by heart. The quality has never changed, and it hits the nostalgia button every time. Don’t fear if there is a line it always goes quickly. But stay close to the counter so you can hear your number being called. Literally anything is good, but my order is typically 2 tacos with cheese, a bean and cheese burrito, and a small guacamole. Def their guacamole as they don’t make it like the other places, it’s more of a creamy sauce, still it’s delicious! Will always have a soft spot for my favorite crunchy taco in LA.
This place was fire, was craving some tacos and they had a Birria plate for 10$ tacos were great consome was awesome for the cold weather. Only complaint is I’m not a huge fan of their salsa but the tacos made up for it. It is a food truck and online it kinda makes it seem like it’s a restaurant but good nonetheless.
Tito’s tacos is definitely one of those love it or hate it spots, but if you’re a crunch taco fan like me, it’s a must. The shells are super crispy, packed either way that old school seasoned meat, lettuce, and cheese. Some people say it’s overrated or too basic, but honestly not every taco has to be gourmet or authentic. The best part is you get free chips and salas with every purchase. They keep the portions generous. The salsa is nice and restaurant style. Chips always crunch and warm. The line moves much faster than you’d expect. If you’re craving a classic crunchy no frills tacos this is that spot!
Tito’s Tacos is hands down one of the best taco spots I’ve ever visited! The food is bursting with authentic Mexican flavor every bite tastes fresh and perfectly seasoned. The crunchy tacos are legendary, and the salsa has just the right kick. The portions are generous, and the prices are fair for the quality. The staff were warm, friendly, and quick with service even during the lunch rush. The restaurant was spotless, with a fun and inviting atmosphere. I also loved the handmade tortillasthey make all the difference! Everything tasted homemade and full of love. Tito’s Tacos deserves every one of its five stars
This time I picked up a Pastrami and Chili Fries and split it with my wife. After the 20 min drive home, everything was still delicious and fresh. The service is quick, but sometimes they are slammed busy. They have online ordering and phone ordering, about 4 years ago they started accepting cards, no more cash only. The patio and inside seating is an old school cozy eatery. No frills, just great food in a cozy atmosphere, the fire pits add that special touch while dining al fresco. Next time, I’ll eat there and enjoy the atmosphere with the tasty meal
We stopped by on a whim, and loved the look of it, so we went in. According to their menu, they are famous for their pastrami sandwiches and their chili. They do not have any gluten-free options other than a grilled chicken salad, unless you choose to have the pastrami by itself- which I have done before at another restaurant .Which is what I chose and my husband chose a pastrami sandwich. The server Anna was very helpful. She let me know some of the options that I had and was able to help us find a specific thing that we were looking for. As far as food goes, i was surprised that they didn't have provolone to go on their pastrami.Their options were swiss , american and cheddar. We have eaten at another place called The Hat for their pastrami and I would have to say that their pastrami was better, and also came with provolone cheese. However, what I did like about Johnnies pastrami though was that it was not fatty or overly stringy and the texture was good. My hubby said the same, nice flavor, and their bread was very good although a bit soft because of the aujus that they pour over. We also ordered the Boysenberry pie for hubby and vanilla ice cream for me. They were OK. I would recommend going at least once for the atmosphere and service. Maybe try the chili too, I hear they're famous for it!
My go-to for over 40+ years. My order hasn't changed over the years. I order a dbl dipped pastrami with Swiss cheese, onion rings and a coke or two. The hot mustard/ketchup combo with the large onion rings...ooowee Oh, I also love their pickles. Sometimes I'll purchase the quart for home. If you like NY Deli style pastrami, this is not the place for you, tho...
If you’re looking for “authentic” tacos from any Latin region- these ain’t it. That dont mean they ain’t damn delicious. These are an Americanized version of tacos - and the kind plenty of people grew up eating. That don’t mean they aren’t old school - Tito’s has been making them this way since before you were born (1959). Everything is local. Tortillas made especially for them - and these are some thicc ones. The crunch on the shells is serious and takes more than a “nibble” approach (this ain’t no Taco Bell shell)! The beef is slow cooked and tender. They come with lettuce (cheese or no) and salsa. It’s all processed daily, locally, so is the very definition of fresh. Can you get salsas with more depth (and heat)? Yes. Do they have both red and green? Yes. Are either worth arm wrestling over the last of as you plow thru the last of the (also thicc) tortilla chips - yep. (This won’t have to happen if you there - they’ll refill your salsas 😋) Just go. Try them and they might not be your thing - but that won’t be because they’re not tasty and fresh.
Pretty Solid Tacos. Definitely not the norm for LA tacos but thats what makes them unique. Greasy little crispy tacos filled with cold yellow cheese and iceberg lettuce doesn’t sound appealing on paper but man YOU NEED TO TASTE THESE! Definitely enjoyed them, probably a little more expensive than I thought, around $5.50 but they come with chips and salsa so that balances out the price a lot. Almost wish they served them alla carte cause I dont really want a pound of chips after eating 3 of these. Would definitely check out if you’re in the area, not sure if i would travel 20 miles like I did though.
It’s a decent place with good salsa and fresh tortilla chips. But the tortilla chips had an after taste as if it were deep fried in lard so I could not eat it. And the taco can have cheese when you pay an extra $1.30, and the meat was good enough. It was $5.95 with cheese added. Only hard shell tacos. It’s a simple menu for a Taco with or without cheese. Without cheese is $4.65. They also have other menu item, but they’re known for their tacos so you can try it. Free parking. Indoor and outdoor seating. Plus you get free chips and salsa per order so if you buy 2 tacos you get one (1) free order of chips and salsa with it. I got 2 tacos with cheese so $1.30 extra for each taco and free chips and salsa with the order so total cost $12.
I just wish the Servers would wash their hands after their CIGARETTE SMOKE BREAKS! It's actually SO disgusting and sad and a lack of integrity. The servers just return back to the floor like it's nothing, after smoking 🚬 🚬 a fresh cigarette PER LAW: Yes, absolutely; California food safety laws (California Retail Food Code) mandate that food handlers, including servers, must wash their hands immediately after using tobacco (smoking, chewing), eating, drinking, coughing, sneezing, or touching their hair/face, before returning to food prep or service to prevent contamination. Key Handwashing Triggers for Servers in CA: After Smoking/Tobacco Use: This is explicitly required by law. AND I also wish the cooks would wear gloves as he prepares the sandwiches.😞I saw a guy transfer the cheese from the pan with his bare hands.
3 stars is generous. Johnnie's staff isn't exactly welcoming. Granted, it was New Year's Eve and I am sure staff wanted to go home. The sandwich is not worth the price of $19.95 but the fries and onion rings are good. Service was quick. This is a "no frills" type of establishment. It's the kind of place you're supposed to frequent, because they assumed I knew what I wanted and seemed surprised when I told them it was my first time there. I got scolded a few times by the staff for not knowing what comes on the sandwich. Doubtful I would return but I'd recommend coming during the day and avoiding holidays.
The food here is delicious, though it might be a bit overrated. The portions are hefty, so you won’t leave hungry! The lines can get pretty long, so it’s smart to come when you're not starving. I’m all about that red sauce—it's so much better than the green jalapeño sauce. The enchiladas? They have a unique flavor that leans more toward tamale mole, but they’re absolutely delightful! Just keep in mind that the prices are on the higher side, but the experience is some what worth it!
Heard a lot about this place, so I thought I'd give it a shot since I was in the area. There are mixed reviews on it, so I had no idea what to expect. Bought 4 tacos for $4.65 each (no cheese), which comes with chips and salsa. Overall it was ok. Nothing bad and nothing to write home about. The meat was good, but could use a bit more flavor. The type of salsa that's provided is proper for tacos dorados, but could use a little kick. Chips could use a sprinkle of salt. Would I go back? Probably not, but it was worth the 1 time experience.
Service was fast but unfortunately they forgot to give us the salsa it comes included with your order. That was some experience I went to ask for my salsa and they couldn't believe me so they requested I take my box back . So I did and one worker checked it and she was like oh ok .Then she calls another coworker over and she couldn't believe it either I mean the box is not big and I didn't have a lot. But for some reason she had to touch and moved around the chips to make sure I wasn't hiding it or something. I don't know but that was something for sure. Ok so we ordered 2 burritos one all red meat with cheese no beans second burrito red meat with beans and cheese and 3 beef tacos. I appreciate the quantity for sure, loved the flour tortilla. Red meat was good but I would rather have that in a tamal it reminded me of my mother in laws tamale's but not in a burrito not my taste. As for the salsa not for me no flavor just no and tacos to dry I also appreciate the quantity but no not what we expected. I'll go again but to try the tamal they actually sell and just bean and cheese burritos because the beans are delicious as well as the four tortilla.
$6 for a hard shell taco with meat lettuce and cheese 🤡. This place is a joke and doesn't deserve your attention or money. Skip it and get yourself a proper street taco. This place has zero flavor. The only thing keeping this place alive is nostalgia and greed. Bland meat and bland salsa that was mostly water. This place is highway robbery. I hope it doesn't last much longer.
It seemed like a good spot because it was busy, but with all honesty. This place has the worst tacos I've ever had. These are not tacos. I asked one employee about the meat, and they said that the prep takes place somewhere else. With that being said, the food is absolutely disgusting. My enchiladas were just yellow cheese and hard tortilla.. If you love tacos and authentic Mexican food. This is not the place you're looking for.
Do you like food? Do you have functioning taste buds? Well then this place is not for you. Tito's tacos an iconic establishment serves worst fried crispy tacos in the whole area. $5.80 gets you a fried tortilla, with canned stew beef with some weird aftertaste and a some lettuce. Don't forget $1.20 gets you .25 cents worth of cheese on top. The salsa tastes like tomato paste, and the rice tastes like saw dust. The beans are ok, but are ultra processed if your into that sort of things. Please do yourself a favor and go some where else where $7 can get you a smorgasbord. The workers at mean, the line moves fast. The ambiance, well there isn't one.

Tito's Tacos: A Crispy, Culver City Classic That Endures

Tito's Tacos: Culver City's Crunchy, Nostalgic Classic
If you’ve lived in or around Culver City for any length of time, you’ve undoubtedly heard whispers, or perhaps full-blown declarations, about Tito's Tacos. This isn’t your abuela’s authentic regional Mexican spot, and that’s precisely why it holds such a special place in so many hearts. Since 1959, Tito's has been serving up what many Angelenos grew up on: a deliciously Americanized take on the taco, and it's a tradition that spans generations. The star of the show here is, without a doubt, th
