I visited Terry Black’s (Fort Worth) today for the first time. Amazing staff, they cater to their patrons and it’s a lovely thing. I sampled a few things… meats- pork ribs, beef rib, regular sausage and brisket. Sides- cream corn, green beans, mac n cheese. I wanted to try their margarita but it wasn’t available, next time I will. My honest opinion- sides were AMAZING, all of them that l listed above; beef rib- superb: pork ribs- I don’t like sweet bbq so I am not a fan but I am sure others will like it; brisket- had a peppery taste and I loved it, could’ve been more tender BUT the flavor made up for it. Overall anything this place may be lacking is compensated by the staff. EVERYONE was pleasant and helpful, such a joy to have these encounters! Oh! Before I forget, the cornbread is WONDERFUL, I don’t normally like cornbread but this here will make you reconsider. Terry Black- Fort Worth, thank you for a very positive and enjoyable experience. I will return.
It was our first time at Terry Black's, will definitely will go back here again. The ribs were standing out: full of flavor, fall off the bone, best one I’ve ever had. The beef brisket was good too; flavorful and tender. Ms. Helen and the staffs were moving smoothly in fast paced even though place was busy and packed with people. Atmosphere was great too, my friends had a great time!
We rented the back room for a special event and Oh my goodness was it special! The staff could not be more warm than accommodating throughout the event as well as having the space to walk around with an open bar just added to the experience. The star of the show is obviously the barbecue on the sides. We were blown away by hell tasty and delicious everything was. The unspoken hero was the smoked turkey, but the ribs, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and of course, the brisket were incredible. The sides matched up very well from the cornbread, mac & cheese, beans, and one of my favorites. The bread pudding were all delicious. This is the third location I’ve enjoyed and they all might be slightly different but consistently execute at a very high level. I can’t wait to get back to Dallas to enjoy more, Terry Black‘s barbecue!
Terry Black’s Barbecue in Deep Ellum is easily one of my favorite spots for great barbecue in Dallas. The service is always friendly, quick, and welcoming. It’s more of a grab-and-go setup where you order at the counter and watch the fresh meats being chopped and served right in front of you, which is part of the experience. This time I ordered the family pack to go, and it was an insane amount of food- absolutely worth it and enough leftovers to last days. The brisket was juicy, the sausage was cooked perfectly, and the chopped meat was spot on. Shoutout to Dayana, who was super kind and even threw in a hat, which was an awesome surprise. There’s often a line, but that’s a good sign-and it’s always worth the wait. Plenty of seating both inside and outside, and the BBQ sauces are a must-try. Overall, an easy recommendation and a place I’ll always stop at whenever I’m in town. Wish I could come here more often!
I had an absolutely fantastic dinner at Terry Black’s Barbecue in Dallas — a true Texas-style experience. The location is authentic and genuine, perfectly reflecting the real Texas BBQ atmosphere. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the passion and tradition behind this place. The meat was simply outstanding — incredibly tender, flavorful, and literally melting in my mouth. Every bite was pure enjoyment. The salads were also excellent, fresh, and surprisingly delicious, making the meal perfectly balanced. I can’t personally judge the prices since I was a guest, but it’s clear that this is not a cheap place. That said, the quality of the meat is extremely high and absolutely justifies the cost. Without a doubt, this is an experience I will never forget. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to taste real Texas barbecue at its finest.
20/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Terry Black’s Barbecue absolutely lives up to the hype. The meat literally fell off the bone. The beef ribs were the best overall — insanely tender and packed with flavor — followed by the pork ribs, and then the brisket (which was still incredible). The service was amazing. Every employee we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. There’s also so much seating, which makes the whole experience comfortable even when it’s busy. Hands down some of the best BBQ in Dallas. We’ll definitely be back!
This is an establishment. If you are visiting you have to come. Everytime I come to Dallas I make it a priority to come here. The hospitality, vibe, and most importantly food is excellent. I have been here 5 times now, and this is my second night in a row while in town. They noticed me and gave me a free hat and Mexican coke! That is southern hospitality. Some noteworthy items are the Mac and cheese, I am very picky with it but theirs is not too soft, tangy but creamy, and has a silky texture. Their green beans and coleslaw are very good too. Baked beans are very meat heavy and flavorful. Lastly, their black pepper sausage is the best I’ve ever had. Get that with LEAN brisket and some pork ribs and your set. Oliver
Was in Dallas for a work trip and couldn't resist stopping by Terry Black's Barbecue. Had a brisket sandwich, Mac n cheese, jalapeño cheddar sausage and it was fantastic. Definitely recommend stopping by and grabbing a tray, you really can't go wrong with any of the menu items. Beer selection was surprisingly good and they also offer wine. 10/10 would eat here again!
This was my second time at Terry Black's, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I visited with my family, and everything was excellent. The brisket was the standout for me—exceptionally tender, packed with flavor, and easily some of the best I've ever had. The beef ribs were just as impressive: perfectly seasoned, incredibly juicy, and truly next level. Despite being a bit busy, the staff kept everything moving smoothly, and the restaurant has that classic Texas BBQ atmosphere. Great food, great service, and a wonderful time with family. We'll definitely be back!
Oh man. Not much needs to be said. It lived up to the hype. Actually exceeded it for me. This bbq was some of the best I’ve had in Texas and honestly in my whole life. Our favorites were the beef ribs and sausage. But the brisket and pork ribs do not disappoint. Definitely stop by if you are nearby and hungry! The service was great! The food is a bit pricey, but worth it!!
This was my first time at Terry Black's, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I came with my family. The brisket was the standout for me: super tender, full of flavor, and honestly some of the best I've had. The pork ribs were on another level too, crazy good, perfectly seasoned, and fall off the bone. The staff kept things moving smoothly even though it was a little busy, and the whole place has that classic. Great food, great atmosphere, and a great time with family. We'll definitely be back next year.
I’m driving from Georgia to California and went out of my way to find the best local cuisine—this is it. I’ve been to many "top-tier" BBQ joints, but Terry Black’s is officially the best I’ve ever had. The brisket and ribs are incredible and genuinely made my long cross-country drive happier. If you’re nearby, it is 100% worth the stop for the best meal of your trip.
Best part of coming to Texas is BBQ. First time coming to Terry Black's and it did not disappoint. We had brisket, ribs, and staff gave us a little taste of beef ribs, and turkey as well. We also got green beans, Mexican rice, coleslaw, and Mac and cheese. Side were AMAZING, meats were great as well. Sweet sauce was our favorite to add on. Finished it all off with banana pudding. Will be coming back again before we leave town.
I went here on a recommendation and they did not steer me wrong. You know you're in the right place when there's about 150 customers there at lunchtime on a Wednesday. I had the chopped brisket sandwich with potato salad and it was delicious. The pitmaster stopped by my table and invited me back to see how they cook all those delicious meats. Great atmosphere, great food and friendly staff. Highly recommend!
Terry Black’s BBQ is hands-down one of the best BBQ spots in Dallas. The brisket was perfectly smoked, juicy, and full of flavor, and the ribs were tender and seasoned just right. The sides were just as good—especially the mac and cheese. Even with a long line, service was fast and friendly. If you’re in Dallas and want authentic Texas BBQ, this place is a must-visit! ⸻ If you want it even shorter or more casual, I can tweak it in seconds.
Came around lunchtime on a Sunday and there were no lines, which was a pleasant surprise. The weather was beautiful, so we chose to sit outside on the patio. We ordered the meal for six, which comes with about 3 lbs of meat and five sides. Everything was delicious. The brisket we received had a bit more fat than expected, but it was still very flavorful and tender. It may have just been the particular cut we got, so that likely doesn’t apply to every piece. Overall, everyone really enjoyed their meal. Great food, generous portions, and a lovely patio setting. We’ll definitely be back!
This place is just fantastic! We’ve heard a lot about Texas BBQ, and it definitely lived up to the hype. It’s a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. We tried both the brisket and chopped beef, and they were amazing—highly recommend both. We also had Mexican rice and mac ‘n cheese as sides. The mac ‘n cheese was good, but the rice was great. The ambiance is lively. As first-timers, we were a little unsure, but the staff was respectful and helpful. We’ll definitely be back to try more!
Absolutely delicious!! So much so that we came back again the very next day. Beef rib, pork rib, sausage, and mac and cheese were amazing! Personally wasn’t wow’d by the creamed corn or corn muffin. All staff were incredibly kind, helpful, and personable. Food was not cheap, but certainly worth it.
Well that was delicious! First time there. Every staff member I encountered was amazing as it was a little confusing with everything being a la carte and all the different stations. But they guided me through. Had the brisket, cream corn, and cornbread. Everything is ordered by the pound. The guys behind the line threw me an extra piece of meat since it was my first time there. Highly recommend. I was full but I kept eating it was so good. Place is huge inside. Plenty of seating . Outdoor seating as well. Just might have to go back before I leave town in a couple of days.
Absolutely amazing experience! Terry’s Black Bar B cue lives up to the hype — the barbecue is flavorful, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with care. Every bite was delicious, and the quality is consistent from start to finish. The atmosphere is welcoming and efficient, making it a great spot whether you’re a first-timer or a regular. It deserves special recognition as well. The service from Jenny, Diana, and Lore was outstanding — warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly. They made the experience even better with their professionalism and positive attitude, making us feel truly welcomed and well taken care of. Between the incredible food and exceptional service, this is a place I would highly recommend and will definitely return to. Well done to the entire team!
First time here, everything was amazing. We had Mexican rice, potato salad, cornbread, ribs, brisket and sausage. I was not fond of the potato salad seems like it was missing something like relish. Overall it was extremely tasty and delicious. I had some of my BF peach cobbler as well it was good.
What a place to have my first Texas BBQ experience! Everything was fantastic and it was even made better by Amy at the bar with her top-tier service. The BBQ itself was so tasty (we got the family pack!) that any sauce is not needed. Pair them with the delicious sides they have and some banana pudding for dessert and you have an unforgettable Texas BBQ experience! It was one of the highlights of our trip, especially the brisket and Mexican rice! We will definitely be coming back on our next visit to Dallas!!!
Quick trip to Dallas, we stopped by for some delicious bbq! We didnt think they would be Pet friendly, but the staff were very welcoming of our 2 frenchies! Food is well worth the price and experience! We sat on the rooftop! Sunny with a beautiful breeze! Hoping they open a Houston location!!
Really fun place. We were served by Ashley and Lalo who were quick and pleasant. I had the brisket sandwich, which was amazing. The mac and cheese was really good but super rich. Potatoe salad was one of the best I've ever had. Headed over to the bar and was served by Madison. She was awesome and makes great drinks. I don't know what they pay her but it's not enough considering she served the entire bar by herself. Definitely recommend.
Absolutely,by far the very best barbecue i have ever had in my entire life. From the service to the experience of being able to walk into the pit was all amazing. Chris and his team were super awesome!!! The beef rib is to die for, the sausage truly amazing. The pork ribs so tender and juicy the turkey juicy flavorful. The rice remarkableThe banana pudding omg omg.So good, I didn't even have to use barbecue sauce. You don't even need bbq sauce!!! This is a must for Anyone that loves real bbq. Eric, Ismael, outstanding 👏
The best bbq I had! As an international Executive Chef…. It says allot!! Terry Black's BBQ: Worth the Hype (and the Price Tag $287 for 2 adults and 2 kiddos) In the fierce landscape of Central Texas barbecue, Terry Black’s stands as a monumental, smoke-scented beacon. It’s not just a restaurant; it’s an experience, complete with the industrial-chic ambiance, the loud chatter of happy customers, and the mandatory view of gigantic Moberg smokers churning out post-oak perfection. This is where tradition meets commercial success, and the result, while pricey, often borders on the sublime. The line moves fast, allowing hungry patrons to build their dream tray piece by piece. Forget the brisket for a moment—though their consistently moist, perfectly barked slices are certainly top-tier—the true star, the dish that elicits near-religious praise and triggers spirited debate online, is the Beef Rib. This colossal "dino rib," seasoned simply with a legendary pepper-forward rub, is intensely smoky, overwhelmingly rich, and so fatty it melts like savory butter. It’s an order that requires a serious wallet and an even more serious appetite, but biting into that dark, crispy crust yields flavor that justifies the hype (and the $50+ price tag it often commands). As one fervent fan noted, "I’d rather eat that beef rib than prime rib from any high-end steakhouse." What truly separates Terry Black’s from many Texas institutions, however, are the sides, (very salty sides!) While traditionalists might scoff, the sides here are essential. The Mac and Cheese is gooey, cheesy comfort, baked beans were surprisingly good. It’s the unsung hero that even the most devout meat-and-only-meat purists find themselves raving about. Tge lines were long and moved very fast, plenty of service stations and staff, they give too much food, and jacking the price by doing so! Terry Black's is not cheap. A full meal with the famous beef rib can easily run over $70 per person. However, the consistent quality, the lack of an absurdly long wait time compared to other top-tier joints, and the availability of their best meats later in the day are huge factors in their favor. It’s the BBQ spot you can rely on, and for many, that reliability—and that unforgettable beef rib—makes it worth every single dollar. Terry Black’s is a destination that delivers a five-star experience, provided you come prepared to pay for premium quality. Take half of what the servers will offer, I promise it will be more than enough! We had 5lb of meat left, 2 lb of beans and 3lb of Mac and cheese left, since we flew the next day, we threw out all of it, about $150!!!! No parking was available, super hard to find parking in the area.
This was my second visit to Terry Black’s Barbecue on Main Street in Dallas, and it reminded me exactly why I’ve been eager to return for nearly two years. Even as you’re driving along Main Street, the aroma of perfectly smoked meats sets the stage for an exceptional barbecue experience. The beef ribs are still the true standout—rich, tender, and packed with deep, smoky flavor. The brisket is equally impressive, with a flawless bark and a melt-in-your-mouth texture. And the sides hold their own; the potato salad is easily one of the best I’ve ever tasted. If you’re anywhere near this part of Dallas, Terry Black’s is a must-visit and continues to set the standard for great Texas barbecue.
Visited on 11/04/2025 around 11:30. We made it right before the lunch rush. I’m writing this review right after as it was just too good to wait. We got a half rack of pork ribs, half pound of brisket, and one classic sausage. It almost instantly felt like we didn’t have enough meat on our plate. The instant tenderness and savory-ness of the food blew my girlfriend and myself away. The three sauces offered were a sweet, spicy, and original, and the spicy by far was the best. It had a nice, tangy flavor with heat. The Mexican rice and green beans were standout sides, and the cornbread was a nice sweet treat along with the banana pudding and peach cobbler. The only thing that missed was the mac and cheese, but that’s up to personal preference and me liking baked mac more. Overall, highly recommend. Great for a first time Dallas visitor like myself.
Is the price ridiculously expensive? Yes. But for the best barbecue I’ve ever had, I’ll happily pay it again. I didn’t know it was possible to make Brisket taste like this & to be so tender. It’s like cheating, it doesn’t feel possible. I haven’t stopped thinking about this food in the week since I got home from Dallas! Food was perfect. The service was surprisingly helpful and kind. Loved sitting on the roof with a great view of some Dallas skyscrapers. Even our son loved it- he would cry when we tried to take the rib bone from him!
Definitely Great BBQ. Staff were friendly and service was top notch. They always seem crowded but it’s completely understandable as they have amazing bbq. Their prices are on point especially considering how great everything tastes. Their Mac n cheese is always great. The brats are always cooked perfectly and packed full of flavor. Ribs are fall off the bone. Overall it’s amazing bbq so if you love bbq you have to try them at least once.
We ordered the Brisket, Pork Ribs, Turkey, Jalapeño Cheese House Made Sausage, Mac + Cheese, and Cream Corn. The pork ribs were the best I've had; meat falls right off the bone, seasoned perfectly, and requires zero sauce. The turkey is moist and delicious and the brisket is beautifully smoked. Both great options. The sausage is decent, but the weakest entry of the meats we had. The cream corn was addicting and I couldn't get enough. The mac was solid, and I'm not typical a mac fan. Every employee we interacted with were friendly and helpful. When we arrived, one of the pit crew invited to give us a tour of the shop and walked us through the process. It was an awesome highlight of our visit. The layout of the whole restaurant is very open and relaxed, and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I understand Texas BBQ has its own ranking, but Terry Black's is a worthy competitor and an excellent dining establishment. I'd absolutely eat here again.
I thought I’d had good barbecue throughout the years, but I was so wrong. Terry Black’s Barbecue blew me away. The beef rib was unlike any bbq meat I’ve had, it was so juicy, flavorful, and tender. One rib (ours was 1.3lbs) was plenty for two of us to share. Then the pork ribs rub was insanely good. And then the brisket with the sweet sauce, still thinking about it. And finally the turkey with the sweet sauce, amazing. The two sides we tried were also super good and my other half who is usually very picky about mac n cheese loved it. For dessert we shared banana pudding and the peach cobbler. Banana pudding was the star for dessert but still enjoyed the peach cobbler. Everything we got including tip was $135. As others have mentioned, it is pricey for barbecue but completely worth it. Overall, it’s a good (well bad) thing there isn’t a location by us or we’d be there all the time.
This was hands down the best barbecue I’ve ever had. The star of the show is the beef rib absolutely insane, flavorful, juicy, tender, and it literally melts in your mouth. Pure perfection. The brisket is outstanding deeply smoked, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor. The Texas sausage is also a highlight: juicy, smoky, and full of taste. The sides are classic but made with real care: generous portions, well-seasoned, and the perfect complement to the meats. The service was excellent – everyone was super friendly, patient, and welcoming. The atmosphere is just as good as the food: spacious, comfortable, well-ventilated, with great décor that matches the authentic Texas barbecue vibe. We went on a Thursday around 2:30pm and there was no line, plenty of tables available, and the whole experience felt relaxed and enjoyable. Overall, everything was simply perfect – food, service, and ambiance. Highly recommended and a must-stop spot in Dallas! 🔥🍖
Terry Black’s is one of the most popular places in Dallas and Austin for BBQ. We booked the pit master experience at Terry Black’s in Dallas which includes a tour of the smoking pits with a brief history of the business, drinks, and of course a sample of each item they have to offer including a variety of meats, sides, and desserts. The experience was pretty cool though I’m not sure it’s worth the $300 I paid ($150/person). The food was good but if I’m being honest I think I preferred Franklin’s in Austin more. The brisket here was dry and cold when we got it and a lot of the food was way over seasoned. Service was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the BBQ. The only reason I booked the experience was because I wanted to ensure that we would be able to try it while we were in town and they don’t take reservations. I remember my visit to Franklin’s in Austin there was an extremely long line and they did have a propensity to run out of things. With Terry Black’s I had assumed it would be the same and so the experience was a way to ensure we’d get a table and be able to try all the different food selections. In truth it was unnecessary. While they were busy, they did a great job of moving the line along. On top of that, after having taken the tour and speaking with the GM, who was our guide, they like to make sure they always have enough so as never to run out before closing time. All that to say that reservations are definitely not needed here and you’d be safe to just show up and wait in line. The prep and customer service is definitely where Terry Black’s shines some of the other well known BBQ establishments we’ve tried. Overall a great experience but I probably wouldn’t book the tour for the price. Just go in and enjoy the BBQ. You don’t need a special tour to see the pits as they are right off the patio seating. Atmosphere: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 4/5 Overall Value: 4/5 Total: 4.25/5 Price: $$$ (only because we booked the tour) $: $0 - $50 per person $$: $50 - $100 per person $$$: $100 - $200 per person $$$$: $200 - $500 per person $$$$$: $500+ per person
The best thing about eating here was the ambience. The service was good. The food while good was nothing I would have gone out of my way for. The beef ribs and original sausage were really good. The brisket was okay. The pork rib was very salty. The portions were also very generous, but not worth the price.
I was served very dry brisket, so I was disappointed by that as it looked so juicy and delicious online. Bummed about that considering the price. But The ribs and cornbread were great. Overall pretty good. People who sat down next to me later on had much better looking brisket. So perhaps I got an older one or a one off dry one. Staff were very nice.
