What a charming restaurant! The chef/owner and wife put so much love into this place. The food was phenomenal. They thanked every single person that walked in for supporting them. Best crawfish étouffée I’ve tried in DFW. Will definitely be coming back. Also shoutout for having HALAL meat ! Do not expect anything fancy or modern. Expect delicious, authentic food served by the warmest souls.
Absolutely delicious! We wanted to experience this place ourselves as a recommendation from SamsPOV. Everything was extremely fresh and flavorful. We’ve had gumbo at many different restaurants and homemade by friends but this one has got to be the most flavorful and filling one we’ve ever tried. The owners are very kind and sweet people. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to try their delicious food! Thank you and we can’t wait to go back.
The boiled crawfish was absolutely delicious 😋. The crawfish was very fresh and cooked to perfection. The meat was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The seafood gumbo was also outstanding—loaded with ingredients and packed with plenty of fresh seafood in every bite. The New Orleans–style coffee had a rich, aromatic flavor, and the freshly made sweet beignets were soft, fluffy, and incredibly delicious 🤤.
I went to Swamp Cafe in Dallas last night for Fat Tuesday dinner. It’s definitely a Mom & Pop strip mall restaurant but I could feel the warmth, friendliness and family spirit when I stepped inside. The food was worth the wait. The hush puppies were so delicious that I could not stop gobbling them up! So crisp on the outside and warm and chewy on the inside. The only thing that could’ve made them better was just a hint of jalapeño… And the catfish and the shrimp were perfect crispy on the outside and completely fresh non-fishy, honestly the perfect combination. And the french fries were the tastiest tater tubes ever! I saw people eating pans of crawfish. They even had a soft crab sandwich and of course, all the gumbo’s but I’m not a gumbo person so… but I will be going back!
Best gumbo I’ve had in Dallas! All of the food was amazing we got the jambalaya, gumbo and it even came with a huge free order of crawfish! Definitely recommend if you like authentic Cajun food.
I absolutely LOVE this gem restaurant. It’s so hard to find authentic cajun food made right in Texas but they do it exactly like I find back home in New Orleans because they are New Orleans natives. I got the shrimp po’boy and when I say the first bite brought a tear to my eye with how perfect it was, that is no exaggeration. It took me right back to New Orleans with the flavors, the amount of food I got, the homemade roumalade sauce and the fries, those were divine! They were perfectly made with a delicious seasoning and I finished nearly every bite. The beignets were light, fluffy and deliciously warm, brought me right back to New Orleans again and if you leave with no powdered sugar on ya, you didn’t eat em right! The owner was so kind and gracious and even shared a slice of king cake with me because I mentioned how much I miss being home and its Mardi Gras season. Their menu is simple and delicious and you get a lot of food so bring a big appetite! Highly recommend coming in and support small business with charm, amazing dishes and that New Orleans hospitality!
Hands down some of the best Louisiana-style gumbo I’ve had. Deep, rich roux, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor tastes. Warm spice, generous portions, and real Southern comfort in every bite. Also their Beignets were delicious! Friendly service and a laid-back vibe make it even better. Definitely coming back.
When I tell you I am so happy I came here today!!! I’m from Louisiana and by this place being in the heart of Dallas I felt like I was in New Orleans. The vibe of the place was calm and relaxing. But the star of this experience was the Shrimp poboy I ordered….. omgggggg. It was so good. And the owner over stuffed it. It tasted amazing and was PERFECTLY seasoned. 10/10 recommend!! I’m definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu next time!
Heartwarming Halal Cajun Gem – Chef David is the Real Deal! Walked in around 3:30 p.m. on a Sunday and instantly felt the warmth of this family-run spot. There were already two other customers ordering fried fish and shrimp—they got a massive to-go platter and were so genuinely thankful and excited. They got served super quickly, and you could tell they were thrilled with the food. I ordered the gumbo and a soft shell crab po’ boy (for “homeboy” back home). It came out in just 10–15 minutes—fresh, hot, and perfectly cooked. Chef David even upgraded my gumbo to the seafood version (with extra crab and fish on top) without charging extra—he didn’t have to, but he did it anyway. I tipped him nicely either way because the hospitality is next-level. On the way out, those two customers were raving, saying “Oh yeah, we’ll be back!” and looked really pleased. Then Chef David handed out free slices of king cake to everyone (such a generous touch—perfectly timed for Mardi Gras vibes!). Two more curious groups walked in around 3:50 and 4 p.m., and he greeted them with the same classic, welcoming energy. This is a humble strip-mall shop—don’t come expecting fine dining polish. There’s a lived-in feel with the printer out, random books, etc., but that’s part of the charm. It’s a one-man (plus family) show run by Chef David, who’s pouring his heart into authentic NOLA-style Cajun (halal too!), and you can feel it in every bite and interaction. If you’re in the Addison/Far North Dallas area and want real comfort food with genuine hospitality, come here. You want this man to succeed in living the American dream—supporting small spots like Swamp Cafe makes a real difference. I’ll definitely be back whenever I’m around. Highly recommend! Thanks, Chef David—keep doing what you do!
Talk about stepping away from Dallas and into a small corner of New Orleans. The smell of Cajun home cooking hits you right when you walk in the door. They have great specials right now for crawdad season. I recommend getting one of the specials. The po'boys are stuffed and filling. We had the seafood gumbo which was delicious and packed with all the goodness. The jambalaya was delicious and they put a unique twist on it by wok frying the rice. Come check out this little slice of Nola . Don't forget to order those beignets!
I saw SamsPOV’s video and had to try this place. I don’t eat seafood or pork so it was quite exciting to see chicken gumbo and chicken jambalaya with beef sausage available! The chicken breast in both dishes was tender. The gumbo soup was flavorful. The portion size is appropriate for the price and leftovers can be easily packed to go home. The owners are incredibly friendly and nice. I highly recommend giving them a try. You won’t be disappointed.
Swamp Cafe did not disappoint. The food was really good all around, but the hush puppies were the standout, perfectly cooked and easily some of the best I’ve had. Everything came out hot and flavorful, and you can tell they take pride in what they serve. I would definitely come back and recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.
Incredibly delicious food. Chef David puts a lot of care into making the food, along with using high quality ingredients. Everything we tried was excellent, but the gumbo was the standout. Probably the best we’ve had in the Dallas area.
This is the best Louisiana Cuisine that I’ve had outside (and maybe inside) the state of Louisiana! My wife and I are both from Louisiana and it exceeded our expectations. She had the shrimp poboy and I had the red beans and rice. If you are looking for great Louisiana food that doesn’t need anything added seasoning wise, pass up the box Louisiana restaurants in town and come here. You won’t be sorry!
Family owned restaurant serving incredible food with generous portions. I tried their fried shrimp Poboy, Bourbon Fried Chicken, and hush puppies! Food was made fresh to order.
I grew up in the new orleans area and I am telling you this place is the spot in all of Texas. I am not sure why this place does not have people lined up. It is the best fried shrimp I have had outside of louisiana. He knows the history and culture of louisiana. We got to meet him and his wife. Wonderful people. We were there yesterday and going back tomorrow. If you want good real louisiana food this is the spot hands down. All the other places are okay but this one is the spot. Like my grandma said trust fat guy on restaurant you can take it to the bank and if skinny person tell you good burn it down. You can trust this big boy. I will always speak the truth.
This place was absolutely delicious! The food had a nice spice to it and the atmosphere was so friendly from the staff and owners. Made you feel at home like you had a home cooked Cajun meal. Highly recommend anyone to stop by and try.
Delicious and huge portions! Got the shrimp po boy and beignets - the po boy was so flavorful!! Very casual atmosphere, will definitely come back to try more of the menu.
Tried this for the first time and everything was amazing! The shrimp poboy sandwich was something I’m going to be craving all the time. Also the hush puppies were so flavorful. A place I will need to try all of the menu items.
I’ve been looking for great gumbo since 2018 in DFW and this is it. Literally everything was 10/10. Best food I’ve had in a while. The owners are very nice and welcoming. The atmosphere feels like you’re eating in their home. Will definitely be back.
Saw this place online and decided to try it for date night. The owners were so welcoming and the atmosphere was very chill. The food was INCREDIBLE, my bf got the Catfish Poboy and they had Cafe Au Lait with Beignets. Definitely come here if your looking to support small business and wanting to try a true Dallas hidden gem!
This is my first visit to Swamp Cafe. The food was beyond excellent. It was freshly made from scratch, and it came to our table piping hot. The seafood gumbo and the 9th Ward Combo were great. The owners are incredibly nice and attentive; the service was top notch. I will be coming back to try other menu options. Let’s support our local businesses!!!
First time here. We had the Seafood Combo that came with fried catfish, shrimp and fries, the Seafood Gumbo, and beignets. All the food was hot and fresh! The owners are very nice. I also liked that they had nice jazzy music playing. We enjoyed it!
20/10 flavorful in every bite! Everything from the Bourbon Fried Chicken, to 9th Ward Seafood Combo, to the Shrimp PoBoy, and the Seafood Gumbo. Arrived with my family of 6 and everyone left happy and full. The girls favorite part was the beignets of course. Chef and staff were extremely nice and welcoming. Can’t wait to come back again.
Absolutely loved my visit to Swamp Cafe. The Cajun flavors were spot on! The gumbo and beignets were especially delicious and really brought that New Orleans vibe right here in Texas. The food was fresh, well seasoned, and generously portioned, and the service was warm and friendly. It’s a cozy, casual spot perfect for lunch or dinner. Highly recommend this gem to anyone craving authentic Cajun style eats!
If you are looking for the best Cajun food at Swamp Cafe, this is it! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming—perfect for a casual lunch or a family dinner. We started with the boudin balls, which were perfectly crispy, but the real star of the show was the seafood gumbo. You can tell everything is made from scratch with authentic spices. If you’re a fan of New Orleans style cuisine, their shrimp po'boys and beignets are a must-try. The service was fast and friendly, making it one of my favorite local restaurants to visit. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Swamp Cafe offers some of the most flavorful soul food in the area. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic bayou flavors!
My goodness! Just reviewing my photos alone made my mouth water all over again! CHEF DAVID is a wizard in the kitchen. The boudain balls were crisp on the outside and packed with flavor on the inside. The shrimp and crawfish etouffee and the gumbo were packed with plenty of protein and a rue that was too die for with the perfect spice level! The jambalaya was a heaping mound of rice, proteins, and spice as well! And the beignets were warm and fluffy. The perfect ending to dinner. Add to this experience is CHEF DAVID. He brings an infectious laugh, friendliness that is so welcoming, and over 28 years of culinary experience from New Orleans where he lived prior to Texas. If you've got a craving for Cajun, let Chef David works some culinary magic for you! HALAL prepared.
We stopped by because Mom wanted etouffee & we saw the ratings here. WAS. NOT. DISAPPOINTED! Food was great. Chef David went above & beyond to accommodate Mom. She had the shrimp/crawfish etouffee, I had the chicken gumbo, & wife had jambalaya. The boudin balls & beignets were perfect. Portions were sizable and TASTY. We were heart broken to learn he is considering closing after just finding it. We definitely will be back. He reminds us of our most favorite restaurant owner & love supporting businesses like that.
Chef David makes this place amazing in every way! From service to personally tailored flavor and spice levels, the energy is immaculate. The gumbo was badass, and the po boys that came out were beautiful and tasty. We’re coming back this weekend for more. Crawfish is reserve only on weekends, so call ahead and work it out.
10/10! When we walked in, immediately greeted by Chef David and he generously shared some of his homemade buns filled with beef and chives. An absolutely delectable preamble to our equally fantastic dinner and a delightful surprise. We ordered shrimp and catfish po-boys, jambalaya and a side of hush puppies. The po boys were both incredible, especially with the tartar sauce, but the real star was the jambalaya. A truly amazing roux that was cooked to perfection and it was full of flavor. If you haven’t been, this is a perfect place to try! And if you’ve been here before, come in back, it’s just as good as you remember.
Absolutely unforgettable experience! The conversation was warm, the company was amazing, and CHEF DAVID—thank you from the bottom of my heart! Truly one of the most meaningful and memorable human connections I’ve had in a long time. Now let’s talk about the food: HOT, FLAVORFUL, and packed with that bold Cajun soul! You can really taste the quality seafood in the gumbo—it’s rich, authentic, and deeply satisfying. And the beignets? Hot, fresh, and homemade. Pure perfection. If you haven’t been yet, you’re seriously missing out. Do yourself a favor and stop by. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended!
I was delighted to discover this hidden gem in Dallas! Swamp Cafe serves up some seriously delicious halal cuisine that hits all the right notes. The service was outstanding – our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, making great recommendations throughout our meal. The food was exceptional, with generous portions and vibrant flavors. Everything tasted fresh and was beautifully presented. Their spice game is on point, and you can tell they take pride in maintaining halal standards while not compromising on Definitely worth 4.5 stars, and I'll be back to try more of their menu. A must-visit for anyone looking for excellent halal options in Dallas.
