6/18/2025 - I've been wanting to go to Velvet Taco for a while. We went after seeing The Lion King the Musical at Music Hall in Fair Park. The food and the service was great. We had several items. I ordered the "Say What?!" Combo. I did chips and quac, Mexi-Cal Shrimp taco and the Quesa burrito duo. We also had the Mexi-Cal bowl, rotisserie chicken bowl, a rotisserie chicken taco and Korean fried rice. We also ordered a few 'Kick A*s Margaritas. Great experience I will certainly go again. Hopefully one will open near me.

I finally found a vegan and vegetarian friendly taco shop that creates a unique blend of flavors even without adding meat or fish to the mix! The cauliflower taco was to die for, and the hot tofu one was equally as delicious!! We also paired the meal with chips and the incredible elote and white queso dip!! The elite was so amazing that it reminded me of the one I used to eat in Cuernavaca! The only dish I didn’t try was the Red velvet cake but, fear not, I will be back for more very soon!

Outstanding service! The tacos were so delicious and full of meat. The flavor and tenderness was amazing. I'm super impressed with the fast-food chain. We really enjoyed a quick bite here. The staff was very helpful and kind. Easy parking in the lot with ample spaces available.

This spot was a last minute munchies spot, mom was in the hospital and the kitchen was closed...thank goodness for velvet tacos and the fresh tacos for that late night grub!!!

The only reason I’m giving Velvet Tacos 4 out of 5 is that some tacos were a bit on the messy side, making them a tad challenging to eat.Overall, it’s a fantastic place to enjoy innovative tacos in a lively setting. FIRST TIME HERE and I LOVED the tacos! Nice and fresh! My food was done fast and all staff were great and recommended me to the “fan favorites” although I wish the lobby seating area tables were wiped down and clean. I had to throw away things from the last customers. I’ll be back for more!

I really enjoyed the tacos! The flavors were fresh, and the ingredients tasted high quality. The tortillas were soft and warm, and the fillings were well-seasoned without being too spicy. The portion size was satisfying, and everything was served quickly. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that the salsa could’ve had a bit more kick, but overall it was a great experience. I’d definitely come back for more! 🌮

I recently visited on a whim, upon entering the atmosphere was pretty great and I got hit with a pleasant smell! Once at the counter, I was helped by an Alex. Overall his tone made me feel welcome and warm, not many places with much friendly staff anymore.. so this was a huge plus! Ordered two chicken n waffle tacos, as well as a piece of red velvet! Cake was sweet and absolutely delicious, the tacos were savory and to DIEE for!! I'll definitely be coming back..

First time here. Love the food and the vibe. Service was great. Food came out at a decent time considering. Loved the outside seating. Was nice and clean with no bugs! Only negative is that my husband had to go back twice to get things missing from our order. The first time was his queso & chips. After we ate, left and made it down the street I remembered they never gave us our red velvet cake we paid for. So we had to turn around and come back. Other than that, everything was good and we will be back.

Nice Velvet Taco near Dallas downtown area. Easy to spot from street. Good customer service and seating indoor or outdoor. Nice for eating with family, friends, dates or solo. Has a nice variety of tacos to choose from. Their guacamole cheese dip is pretty good. Nice for eating quick bite during midnight hours. Enjoy!

I visited Velvet Taco on Dallas Parkway the night before, and the service was excellent. The tacos were a standard size, and the person at the counter made the experience truly memorable. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to try another location in McKinney the next day. Unfortunately, the experience there was disappointing. The cashier’s lack of enthusiasm made us feel like we were an inconvenience, as if we had arrived at the last minute and forced them to stay late. When the food arrived, we noticed that two of the tacos were the same as what we had ordered the previous night, but the portion sizes were noticeably smaller. It was surprising to see such a difference in serving size from the same company. On top of that, the service was poor, and the place was very dirty. However, the outdoor seating area and the opportunity to people-watch on the street were enjoyable. Despite this, we've decided not to visit Velvet Taco again. I've attached a photo of the same dish ordered at two different locations for you to compare.

Ordered 24 tacos off the catering menu for my staffs for lunch today and the tacos were already cold when I picked them up. I ordered three different types and only the picnic chicken tacos had enough sauce. The other tacos lacked enough sauce making the tacos dry and hard to eat. Spent good money to treat my employees but I'm not sure if they were worth the money. The taste were just okay due to the tacos being cold and not having enough sauce resulting in dry tacos.

Someone has to work on inventory. Three out of the last four times that I’ve been there. The menu has been limited due to items not being available. Today it was the WTF Cordon Bleu taco. I’ve been coming to Velvet Taco for a long time once a week for years, we call it Velvet Taco Friday. We used to order about 7 tacos and 2 sides and the main reason I loved coming here was one taco, the picnic chicken (3.5) and they took it off the menu but they put it back in their secret menu and now it is gone from there too. Besides that, when I realize the picnic chicken wasn’t available, I didn’t order anything but my friend ordered one taco. During ordering, the parson behind the counter gave me attitude for asking about the picnic chicken and that one taco we ordered took about 15 minutes to be done and didn’t even hear the name being called despite paying attention so we could get out of there. People that ordered after us got their food before us. Once we got the taco we realize they wrote the name wrong on the order which I don’t know how you go from Lex to Clots. Overall, I won’t be coming here ever again.

I normally don’t write negative reviews — in fact, I’ve been a huge Velvet Taco fan ever since I lived in Houston, and when I moved to Dallas and discovered this McKinney Ave location I was excited to keep coming back. Unfortunately, my latest experience (10/21/25) left me feeling let down. I work nearby in the State Thomas neighborhood, and I typically order online and pick up at the window. Yesterday I decided to visit in-person because their online ordering system was glitching, and I wanted to take advantage of the Tuesday special. I walked in at 4:48 pm — the restaurant was not busy (only a few tables occupied, plenty of staff visible behind the counter/kitchen) — yet no one greeted me or came to the counter to take my order for nearly a full minute. When someone finally did come, their tone was flat and it felt very transactional, with no sense of welcome or acknowledgement. I told them I wanted 5 × #3 Spicy Tikka Chicken tacos, and that I’d pay $11 in cash and the rest on my credit card. My order number was #96, and the staff name on the receipt was “Carmen C.” (not sure if that person handled the payment). They appeared unsure how to process the partial payment, and had to call someone else (possibly a manager) for help. They took my cash, ran the card, and then I waited around 5 minutes for the food. When my name was called on the intercom, the person behind the counter turned their back and walked away rather than handing it off properly or offering “thank you, have a nice day.” I drove home and opened the bag — only 4 tacos were inside (I ordered five). I called the store to report the issue; the person on the phone gave no apology, emitted a sigh when I told my story, and didn’t tell me they were going to place me on hold. After about 15 seconds of silence I heard background music and realised I was on hold. After about 1 minute someone picked up and said I could either get a credit or refund, or come back to pick up the missing taco. I opted for a refund for convenience. They put me back on hold to process it. I waited almost 20 minutes. During that time my boyfriend called from his phone and they told him “oh it’s already processed.” If it was “already processed,” then why was I on hold for 20 minutes — and why did no one call me back or update me on status or apologize for the delay? To top it off: today when I logged into my bank I saw a charge for the full amount of the order — while they also took my cash in-store. What the heck is going on here? Look: I believe in Velvet Taco’s concept, I love the menu, and overall I’ve had good experiences in the past. But this location’s customer service is inconsistent, and yesterday’s experience was poor — from lack of greeting, to clumsy payment processing, to missing food, to almost no apology and lack of communication afterward. If you’re going to ask for loyalty, you have to deliver reliable service. I’m disappointed, and I hope this feedback helps them fix what’s going wrong.
