Great place. The inside is dark and kind of dingy. So eat outside where the atmosphere is wonderful providing the weather cooperates. The food is great. Despite the large crowd, the service was exceptional. Our server was there on top of keeping our drinks refilled. While not set up while we were there, they have music too. A bit out in the middle of nowhere but well worth the drive.
It was a nice place, you can tell they put in a lot of effort to really fix the place up from what it used to be so many years ago. The food was okay, there wasn't anything that really stood out to me to make me go back. The chips are good, the mushroom gravy was flavorful. The greenbeans with garlic butter were nice. The menu itself is pretty classic southern/American/Mexican. It was a hot afternoon, but they have plenty of misters outside to keep you cool. Overall, really good. Kind of pricey though.
I've been here many times so I'm surprised I haven't made a post yet, but this place is a 20 out 10. Anthony is absolutely amazing, from his presence, banter and attention and he deserves more recognition than what I could possibly give. The food is always on point and there has never been a bad meal, sure there has been occasional mix up, but its always been corrected quickly. By far this is one of my favorite hide aways that I will always make the drive out for. Keep doing what your doing and never change.
Don't let the name fooll you...this is a top notch restaurant with great food, beer, and vibe. Kayla (hope I spelled that right), our waitress, was great! Very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable...she made great recommendations and knew the menu, food & beer, very well. My wife and I truly enjoyed having dinner here. It was a chilly evening, we ate out on the patio where they had heaters and blankets. One of the best place we visited on our trip through the hill country.
My wife and I try to visit Hays City every time we stay in Wimberley, it had been two years and it still doesn’t disappoint. Our server, Daniel, was simply great…very welcoming, threw in some well played puns, answered our questions, and just simply talked to us person-to-person, not just strictly as our server throughout…even more welcoming. Thank you very much for your company that day, Daniel, keep doing what you’re doing! The food was delicious as usual, we ordered the biscuit and gravy (go ahead, try it if you haven’t already). I had the blackened chicken breasts, and they know how to do “blackened” right, as some other places we visited had some bland blackening styles. My wife ordered a Belgian waffle, and she loved it, very light, fluffy and airy…hit the spot for her. The cocktails were tip-top…I tried both their Margarita (Wimberley KNOWS how to make the best margaritas in Texas), and their aged Tequila Old Fashioned (and WOW…so smooth, I babysat that bad boy for a good while to enjoy it). Their patio area is awesome, with the large trees, plenty of bench seating…just a great outdoor dining spot.
This was my 1st time to eat here. Obviously it's a very popular place, but i feel like I just found a hidden gem. The queso was fantastic and the chopped sirloin was possibly the best I've ever had and The mushroom gravy was perfect! I was with a group of almost 30 people and the wait staff handled it very well and everyone loved their food. There were a couple of mistakes, but you have to expect that with large groups. The restaurant was packed on a Thursday night, which is a great sign, but it also made it so loud it was hard to have a conversation with those across the table. Overall, it was a great experience!
Had a fantastic experience here! It was our first time here and our server went above and beyond to welcome us and take care of us during our visit. The food was really good and hit the spot and the drink selection is pretty expansive. There's a lot of space here between the dining room, the outdoor patio, and the ice house. Certainly worth a stop if you are in the area.
A friend of mine invited me here tonight, 9/14. I’m a vegetarian, I went in not having very high expectations. In all I got the black bean burger, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, we shared onion rings and cheesy bread. I gotta say all of it was fantastic. I was ultra impressed. I was not expecting much. The onion rings were some of the best I’ve ever had, they do the breading so well. I haven’t had an old-fashioned that good in a long time. Service was great too, employees were super friendly & welcoming.
I went with friends on the weekend at about 4. There wasn't any wait to get in. It was hot outside, but they had fans and misters going. The server was attentive without being overbearing and was quick to get anything we requested. I got the fish tacos. They were excellent! I got the Chipotle aoli on the side because it had a bit of a bite to it. The hays hurricane was also good and definitely had a kick to it. They have live music later in the evening and I was sad to have missed it. I would definitely go back!
Quite possibly the best food in Texas. The buffalo smoked wings are the best I've ever had, bathed in a blend of traditional hot sauce, basil, and other unique ingredients. Also, their wood fire pizzas are amazing. If you’re ever within 50 miles of Driftwood, Texas, this is worth the drive. Ask for to be seated in Am B's section. She's an amazing waitress, friendly, on point, and knowledgeable.
The first time I came here I got their Philly cheesesteak and it was delicious! The second time I ordered the same thing cause it was just too good😅 . Now this time I wanted to try their chicken tenders and omg they were amazing! Their jalapeño gravy is out of this world and they have one of the best fries I’ve tasted. Their Cole slaw is also very good. Everything here is good! You cannot go wrong with anything actually 😅. Anyways one of my favorite places when I come visit family, hopefully one day I get to move down here😜
Be prepared to be amazed upon arrival. This place has it all. Outdoor and indoor seating. Fire pits and plenty of seating for large parties. Food was phenomenal and the waiters stayed on top every request. We had a party 16 and everyone enjoyed the experience. All orders came out correctly and we will back. I can highly recommend this restaurant when you are in the area.
If you're looking for a taste of Texas Hill Country comfort food, Hays City Store in Driftwood is a must-try. Their signature country-fried chicken is a local favorite, and the casual atmosphere makes it a great spot for a relaxed meal with friends or family. The chicken is perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the portions are generous. They also have a wide selection of other dishes on the menu, from burgers and salads to smoked meats and local favorites. The restaurant itself is housed in a converted gas station, and the décor is appropriately rustic. There's a spacious outdoor patio that's perfect for enjoying a meal on a nice day. Overall, Hays City Store is a great option for a delicious and casual dining experience in Driftwood.
Cool spot away from the city. Easy to find. Great atmosphere. Kid friendly. Gluten free options (skip anything fried!). The bacon jam burger was good. The toppings added the flavor. The meat was not flavorful and dense. The fries were super crispy! I will be back, but I will order something other than a burger. Service was great. The music was great but a little loud for lunch.
The whole experience was meh. The food was meh. I think i got a burger and fries. Service meh. The bill- high. Maybe it was an off day. There were a good number of people so folks must like it. For us it was just meh and thats okay.
TLDR: decent food, poor service. After we were seated, we waited for 16 minutes for someone to come take our order and no one came. I had to talk to the hostess at the front for a waiter to come take our order. When we were done with our food we asked our waiter for to-go boxes. We waited for him to come back with the boxes and 15 minutes later there was no sign of him. Someone in my party decided to ask the hostess for boxes and brought them back to our table. We waited another 5 minutes for our host to come back and since he didn’t, we had to get ask the hostess for help getting our check.
