I absolutely adore this Japaneze Habachi Grill Restaurant!!! My brother treated us girls to Mothers Day Dinner and I was so glad he chose here. The food was amazing, and plentiful and the price was reasonable for a group of eight. We made reservations and got there early, thank God they accommodated us and fed us within five minutes of walking through the door!! Will definitely visit with my bf on a later date!!! Its totally romantic!!!
The manager, Jonathan, was excellent. His service was outstanding and truly made my experience enjoyable. He went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Highly recommend!
I really love coming here, especially during lunch. The food is so good, the price is right, and the atmosphere is so relaxing. The servers were attentive and friendly.
From the moment I was shown to my table I got the feeling I was their most important customer even though it was fully occupied. The food is fresh and have good flavors. The experience to grill your own food at the table is of course a plus. But you can't argue with their expertise and how they handle a crowded restaurang. Only downside I feel is the commercial at the table, but I'll guess thats New York... For me its clear, next time I'm in NY, I know exactly where I'll will take my friends. Thank you!
Overall we had an amazing experience there. We were spontaneous and decided to go for Hibachi experience, and very happy we went out to Gyu Kaku. Food was served really fast, and all our picks were good ones, except the calamari. You can skip the calamari and stick with shrimps, if you're up for seafood. Service was good, quick, patient and polite. Note that it might get hot when you are cooking your food, so get yourself comfortable and enjoy! Also would recommend their local draft beers, both of them were great.
Lovely chain of Japanese BBQ. The reservation system and app is pretty clear and rewards are fantastic. In many locations they have an "All you can eat menu" but this location did not seem to have one. The service was above and beyond, the food quality was excellent, atmosphere was intimate. Prices were fair in my opinion, but I wish they were lower.
If you love meat, this is the place for you. Ordered the meat lover combo and we could barely finish it. But shockingly the dish we enjoyed the most wasnt the BBQ but the teriyaki appetizer. It was soo tender and flavorful. After a while all the BBQ meat start to taste the same since the seasoning used is the same for all. (Sweetish) But overall it was a pleasant experience with s'more to top it off.
fun experience LYCHEE MOJITO IS DELICIOUSSSSS 10/10 WOULD RECOMMENDDDD the servers were very attentive despite it being busy and that we had a large group, and also everything was aesthetically pleasing. i like meat well done so i had trouble cooking it enough but a large variety!! they had seafood and also vegetables you could steam, cheese fondue, and even wagyu!! definitely recommend. we also got the matcha crepe cake and mochi ice cream which is delicious!!
It’s always a joy to go to any Gyu-Kaku restaurant. The food is fantastic. You have to try the beef sukiyaki Fried rice. Since the pandemic, they took away the table side condiment sauces. You have to ask for them if you want them. Also, they stopped brushing oil over the grill and the food products will stick instantaneously to the grill.
We love Gyu-Kaku, it's our go to Japanese BBQ restaurant. The selection of meats is amazing and seasoned to perfection. The kids love the experience of grilling their own meats and vegetables. I definitely recommend Gyu-Kaku for their great food, great atmosphere and awesome service.
Amazing Japanese BBQ restaurant in NYC. You have these BBQ grill in each table and cook the meat/fish that you've ordered. It's definitely an add on to the eating and some of of the meats I tried were so juicy and flavorful. If possible, try to go at their happy hour. You can have a good meal for about $15.
Always amazing but sometimes hard to get a table since you can basically sit there all day grilling meats 😁. Fantastic fresh meats with a lot of options for cuts and marinades. The bar has an all day happy hour menu which is crucial, but remember only at the bar. I really like the grilling experience which makes for a fun social activity around your meal. I've always recommended this place for groups and celebrations because the larger the group the better the deal.
Man, so much to say about this place 🥹. Rolled in here sad tired and with a phone battery🪫that was struggling. I came in here and they treated me so well I almost took of my pants. They gave me plenty of Asian beer at a reasonable price, wifi and a place to hang my hat and charge my phone to escape the outside weather for a while. While I charged my phone and recalculated my evening 🌃🛰️📡. They gave me directions to nearby karaoke 🎤 and I left charged up🔋, full of the most delicious 😋🤤 wings. They were Soo good 😊 and feeling ready for anything ☺️ else that would come my way. That day. Check out the art and beauty on display at this place. Bathrooms are impeccable. People working there are kind and won't rip you off if your a polite drunk idiot with many requests. Wings make a great snack, so much flavor in every bite. 🦹🏾♂️🦸🏾♂️came feeling basic left feeling super d dupa😁😅. Got the Arizona hat in there because they represent the people this place represents the people too It's not about greed and profit, it's about prosperity and service. 🐕🐈. It's also about mad fun son. Sing it🤠🎄
Great food and a good menu. I especially like how they have grouped items together depending on your party size so it's easier to order. The preselected items also are discounted vs order individually from the menu. They have a full liquor bar with draft beer as well. I recommend it.
Amazing experience with a high spirit staff every time! You use the grill on your own but the instructions are easy to follow and the meats are delicious. The wide range of appetizers are also fire as well. A general rule: come in with a little appetite and you'll enjoy this JBBQ spot
Came with a big group and we were sat at different booth next to each other to accommodate everyone, personally I really enjoy this sort of setting! The food came out very fast, we got dumplings and soup for appetizers, both were very tasty. Our bbq set came out right in time we finished appetizers, the meats are very high in quality and easy to cook as there's instruction to cook them at all table. It's my first time and I have a very good impression of this restaurant, would recommend making early reservation for big group or to dine during weekend/holiday!
One of the best Japanese BBQ I’ve ever had!! We ordered meat lovers for two and we had plenty! The menus comes with edamame, miso soup, salad, rice, and many many types of delicious meats for two but could feed even three… it’s a generous amount of high quality food! At the end, the menu included two s’mores as well!! Service was impeccable and food delicious!! Absolutely worth it!! 💯 recommended
All five stars because this is literally my hangout spot with my husband. When we stay out in New York, we come here once a week. Amazing Japanese bbq chain, the Toronto one is amazing also. The after marshmallow roasting is so cute!
When I first came in, the long was estimated to be 30 minutes - 1 hour, but they gave us a place to sit and rest and wait. Ten minutes later, they offered a spot for us and soon set us up! They have great lunch specials and a lot of options and variety! The meat seemed fresh and juicy and their fried squid was also very good. They offered some salad and soup and you can upgrade your rice to garlic fried rice (which tastes very good). One thing is, of course, you have to cook your own food so unless you have someone good at that you may end up burning food like me as shown in the pic.
NES was our server and she was amazing! I love this location and I’m always left satisfied with not only the food but the staff. NES was so helpful and had a great personality when serving us, I definitely will be back!
The place is amazing. The staff is nice, the decor and the food at this specific location is the best in my opinion. Will be back soon!
Everything was delicious. Parking was rough. It just makes sense to just use the parking meter. Great experience. I literally ate all my food before taking pictures. We had the Garlic fried rice, Harami steak, spinach, cream corn, fried pork dumplings.I enjoyed the sauce from the cucumber salad so much I got it on the side. Get it. Yum! 🤤 Skirt steak, teriyaki chicken, cucumber salad, Rangoon, marinated shrimp, shrimp. Attentive staff. Clean area. They pride them an is keeping the surface clean. We even got wet maps after our meal. Our tab was $278.00 for 6 ppl. Come during happy hour to get discounted pricing. 10/10
Me and my girlfriend had the most wonderful experience here at Gyu-Kaku. First of all, the meat quality is just absolutely unbelievable, no matter how much you can eat, you’re gonna stuff yourself silly. Second, Tee and Robin were our waiters, and are the most absolutely wonderful, helpful, attentive, and joyful people to be around. Every piece of the experience you’ll have here will be worth every penny.
I stopped by at this location for the second time today and so far both times have been great. I initially came in on Valentine’s Day. I really enjoyed my experience on a busy day so I made another reservation to come back. I seated right away on both occasions. On both occasions, I believe my server was JT who multitasks; bringing out food, cleaning up and taking my order. Despite that, he made a clear effort to be attentive but also friendly. He provided exceptional customer service. Overall, I recommend. I will definitely be coming back as the protein is fresh and appetizers are delicious!
The first time I came, my friends and I had a fantastic experience, and our waiter Robin was excellent and attentive. Thank you, Robin, for your recommendations! We will definitely be back.
Absolutely love this place! I've always wanted to visit, and the service and food were great. Kudos to the hostess, Chrissy, who was so welcoming and answered all the questions I had. Despite the crowd at the front, she responded to all customers well and was able to sit us down in just a few minutes, and later even assisted us with the grill! Our server, Clothea, was also excellent! She helped us decide what dishes to order and gave us great recommendations. The spicy tuna volcano and spicy beef bibimbap were great. I also really enjoyed the Kalbi Chuck Rib. Throughout our meal, both made a point to check on my friends and me to see if everything was going well. Thank you, Clothea and Chrissy, I will be back soon!!
My boyfriend and I came on a Sunday night and soon as we walked in, there were a lot of people waiting, but because we had a reservation, we were able to be seated quickly. They got my girl Chrissy manning the front by herself, but she held it down!! We saw some people being a bit passive aggressive towards her, but she kept her calm and still offered them a smile. Our server, Nam, also offered great service. Since it was our first time, he was patient with walking us through the menu and different options. Thanks to the two of them, we look forward to coming back!
It was our first time here and the service was good. The star of the night was the hostess, Chrissy. From the moment we walked in, she was so enthusiastic and welcoming towards us. She also gave great recommendations including the garlic chicken noodle and prime kalbi, which my girlfriend and I really enjoyed. Chrissy is a gem in this industry!
We ordered for take out a couple 2x1 promos through UBER eats. Beef Sukiyaki Fried Rice Bowl, Fried gyoza, edamame and fried cheese wontons. Great quality and quantity!! The included miso soups and salads were very good. Keep it up!!
Gyu-Kaku is always such a fun and tasty experience! The food is fresh and flavorful — grilling your own meats right at the table makes it even better. The beef short ribs and garlic shrimp are my favorites, and the dipping sauces tie everything together perfectly. The staff are super friendly and helpful, and the vibe is lively without feeling rushed. Perfect spot for dinner with friends or a casual date night! 🔥🥩🍶
I reserved tables for 25 the day before and the process wasnt necessarily difficult. We had a semi private space with 5 tables and nice atmosphere. The service was amazing and the food was quick to arrive. My table of 6 ordered the largest combo and it was fulling and worth it. It came with a variety of meat, appetizers, and soup. We were also able to roast out marshmallows at the end and make smores :) would come here again!
This spot is my all-time favorite for yakiniku! Worth every penny I spent — the quality of the beef is consistently amazing. My favorite part is definitely the beef tongue, tender and full of flavor when grilled just right. The menu has a great variety, and the whole experience of grilling at the table makes it even more enjoyable. Whether it’s a casual dinner or special night out, this place never disappoints. A must-visit if you’re a fan of Japanese BBQ!
The Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ restaurant is an amazing Japanese restaurant that offers guests incredibly delicious Japanese cuisine, and a delightful dining experience where the guests themselves partake in cooking and preparing premium cooked meats over a smoking grill located at their table. In May of 2025, I brought and treated myself and my wife for dinner at the Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ, specifically the branch based in the East Village Manhattan, to celebrate our Happy Eleven Year Relationship Anniversary!!! Both my wife and I were graciously welcomed by the restaurant’s staff and were quickly provided with a very comfortable dining table. Our server, Tan was incredible. She was very kind, welcoming and very attentive. She did a great job on explaining the menu options, addressing our inquiries and perfectly documented our meal orders. Tan also made sure to routinely check on us to see if we were enjoying our meals, and making sure our needs were met. We thank Tan for her superb hospitality and would love for Gyu-Kaku to recognize her outstanding professionalism!!! In addition to the great service, both Kat & I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I ordered the “Meat Lover’s” package for the both of us when dining at Gyu-Kaku. The “Meat Lover’s package is meant for 2 guests and comes with a considerable number of dishes, ranging from starters; salad, miso soup, sushi, chicken karate, and BBQ items; New York steak; Umakara ribeye, toro beef, sirloin steak and an a array of other dishes. In addition you get 2 s’mores for dessert. Both my wife enjoyed steaming our seasoned BBQ items over the grill and found our meal to be very delicious from beginning to end. We found our meat dishes to be perfectly seasoned, very tasty and satisfying, and our grill cooked it perfectly!!! My wife and I thank Gyu-Kaku for helping to celebrate our Happy Relationship Anniversary and recommend for everyone to visit and dine at this wonderful Japanese restaurant!!!
Decided to have my birthday lunch at this place. The vibe and food were great furthermore the staff were very friendly and helpful. They offered to put our cake in the fridge when we were eating which toward the end they also prepared the cake and lit the candles for us. The birthday song part was my favorite haha. Making smores was fun as well, would definitely revisit again.
It’s super delicious. My friends bought me the lunch. We went during the nyc restaurant week. $45 package including all items of appetizers, 1 set of main course, 1 item of vegetables, 1 desserts. Each main course has 3 plates of protein or seafood depending on your choice. 1 bowl of rice. We also ordered a bottle of sake for sharing. The waitress served us was so nice. She was so busy, but her attitude was so good. I have a lot of respect for her. The BBQ place don’t make your clothes smell after eating. They change the grill rack twice for us, very nice. Cannot express enough how content we are about the experience. BTW you could use all your member deals at once.
Excellent family atmosphere. The food was delicious. The service from the staff was attentive and always reaching out in case you needed anything. It's a romantic atmosphere. It was my first time trying Japanese BBQ so I didn't try much variety. For a reasonable price I ended up satisfied. It is ideal to go with children because they have baby chairs, they also have a children's menu. That's really excellent. P.S., I wish I had gone to happy hour where the prices are a little cheaper xD
I enjoyed this place. The customer service was very friendly and informative. Our server was very helpful. Explained the menu to help me pick the right meal. The seating area was comfortable and spacious. As u should already know they bring the raw meat out and u cook it on their grill. The meat is already seasoned and ready to go. Our server gave us very useful tips to help not only speed up the cooking process without burning it. The drinks that they had were also well made. Overall I enjoyed coming here & I'm looking forward to returning at a later date.
Amazing experience in everything. Spacious restaurant with plenty of seating options including a bar. Friendly staff and service was excellent. The waitress nicely explained the menu for me and how things go around the grill. It was my first kind of experience and I enjoyed every bit of it. I ordered the (limited time) Wagyu meal. It's little pricey and it fills. Would recommend the place to invite people over to impress in this unique spot.
Thoroughly enjoy this place, Great for kids, birthdays, anniversaries. And yes I celebrated all of these events at this place. Had the feast with a group of 10 guests and it felt like an all you can eat buffet. Everyone was stuffed. I did my best to take pictures of all the courses offered in the Feast package.
Amazing food! The fried chicken was amazing - totally unexpected. The service was great - the waiters change your grill very frequently - just wish they could speak slower because I sometimes have a hard time understanding. Overall, I’d recommend coming earlier to avoid the line, and also to enjoy the happy hours deals! The drinks come very cheap! Totally recommended!
The girl with the bob at the front is an ANGEL! So sweet and great at her job. So rare to have au ch great customer service these days.

We came here for restaurant week menu. It’s $45 per person with a choice of appetizer, a set of 3 meats, a choice of veggies and a dessert. They also give each person a salad, 2 pieces of beef sushi, a miso soup and a bowl of rice on top of the set. It’s very well worth it. Two of us we couldn’t finish all the food and had to box up the leftover. One thing we were a bit disappointed about was the grill. The fire was not big enough and we can only use a corner of the grill to cook the meat and veggies. We asked our waiter to take a look, and he did make an effort to fix it. But the grill was still not hot enough. And they did not relocate us to a different table, I guess probably due to the amount of people on a Friday night. It took us quite some time to finish the dinner cuz we had to grill little by little. I think it’s only our table that had the bad grill. The table next to us came after us but left earlier than us.
We really enjoy our experiences at Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ. We usually order the dinner packages for the amount of people we have and add on the clay pot garlic fried rice. They give plenty of appetizers in the package as well as s’mores for dessert. The drinks are fun. The Lycee Mojito is tasty!!
Dined in for lunch special 3 meats per person. Meats do not disappoint in flavors and there are the table sauces to enhance flavors as needed (ponzu, sweet soy, and spicy). The lunch special comes with miso soup and a small salad. There are additional add-on if you wanted to. We added a garlic mushroom (for some veggies) and garlic rice. Garlic rice was huge and very good ! Servers were friendly and attentive as our servers exchanged our bbq rack multiple times. Only complaint was that some of the beef dishes were very thin. It was difficult cooking it on the bbq rack without having the meat stick on or breaking off. Total was $55.70 for two people.
For those who look for a different experience and grilling your own food, just come and join the party. Their meat (and cuts) is amazing, great spices and super tender. Once you get there you can chose either a la carte (they have tons of options) or pick some of the Japanese barbecue courses which are based on the amount of people and the options of meats. All of them come with veggies. Drinks not included. Some of them does not include dessert either. The place is crowded so if you’re not in the waiting mood make sure to make reservations beforehand.
I liked it but maybe I'll try another location. The food was good. We got the 90 meal with garlic shrimp noodles. Everything was good. Surprisingly my favorite this was the broccoli which was very well seasoned and the yuzu sake. I recommend that over the cocktails.espciallly for this summer.
The food is fantastic what can I say, it's wagyu! The fried rice is so rich and cooked with beef tallow so there is so much depth of flavor and an umami punch 👊. Even the salad tastes great! With this type of food it's also great to wash it down with a nice cold pitcher of Kirin so be sure to get some beer. Overall a great experience with fantastic food.
Got the Gyu-Kaku Feast for 5 decently athletic dudes and everyone left feeling satisfied. It ran about $70 (after tax and tip), which is a bit on the pricier side door bbq in NYC. The overall quality is decent enough and as mentioned before, the quantity is alright. I can't say that I would highly recommend coming here as there are other BBQ places that you can either get more food (the plethora of AYCE in NYC in general) and the quality isn't as good relative to the pieces (I could've gone to COTE or Baekjeong and paid less for higher quality, while getting similar quantity). But if you can't get a reservation or table at other places, Gyu-Kaku is satisfied.
great food but be prepared to wait nearly 2 hours because people dont want to leave(valid cus its a great spot) and then goodluck finding the hostess for that whole extra hour you waited longer than expected. we were a little confused because there were tons of tables available but i don’t know how it works. 😭 just dont go starving and make sure you have hours to spare basically. if they say its an hour just assume its two. have a drink at the bar so you dont get antsy and impatient (you will) the food and service are great tho! and the drinks are good too.
this place is so so so so good and worth the price! originally my first impression was not that great because the hostess looked irritated when me and my family came in. she spoke passive aggressively as if she was upset we came even though we had a reservation. she then asked if our whole party was here and i said yes and she started walking away. assumingely i thought she was leading us to our table so i followed and she turned around saying "oh, no. you have to wait over there" and i said "oh!" and just turned around. really odd because she didn't say anything after i said yes she just started walking so i was confused why it would've been understood that i shouldn't follow her. but we eventually got seated with no wait time and our server really made up for the bad impression. the entire wait staff that dealt with me and my family tonight were all very sweet and accommodating so despite the beginning i highly recommend this restaurant!

Trendy and exceptional restaurant for Japanese barbecue and other choices including excellent bibimbap, pan-fried dumplings/gyoza, etc. with great (Happy Hour) prices. However, service has been less friendly and has slowed down significantly since our first visit — to the point that staff whether - understaffed or poorly organized - have been ignorant.
Guy-Kaku Japanese BBQ is a fun concept. I got the table of 4 experience that included a lot of food with red meat, chicken, shrimp, and pork along with a lot of yummy appetizers. I gave this place three stars because the air conditioning was broken and it was sweltering hot while cooking near a hot grill. Good food though!
This chain of restaurant has been a staple for me since 2018. It serves my comfort food and is a familiar welcoming place. I am saddened to know that this specific location has depleted in the standard of quality of the food. My last 4 visits have been met with me complaining about the salt/sodium levels in majority of the sides like the Miso Chili wings or the al a cárte Yaku Shabi beef. I usually recommend people to this specific location but I will refrain from doing so unless something changes because the people who I recommend also complains about the salty food. I am a loyal customer with over 250 rewards points etc
Went on a Friday and had a really long wait time. Arrived around 7:30 didn't get seated until almost 10. Server was slow but helpful, however there was a party of about 8 seated next to us that got attended to more often than we did. Nevertheless the food was tasty and the portions were small, around the size of tapas. Would return only if it was less crowded and more attentive service was given.
The food could improve in quality and flavor . Portions are small and often the meat domes with a lot of fat which is the reason for the two star. The service is what saved the over all score Soriya was amazing and very attentive, very kind team member and quite the go getter as she was working on Mother’s Day and had the sweetest attitude along w being very kind to our son. The atmosphere is a bit busy and noisy def a casual dining experience, reservations aren’t enforced but recommended for larger groups I would say any party over 4. They are kid friendly which is nice !
I went with a party of 5. Definitely recommend to make a reservation before hand as this place is very busy. Food is good, but the combo platter doesn’t have as much portion as we needed, had to order extra meat. We ordered sake with a waitress and she didn’t bring us the sake till we finished all the food. A bit disappointed with the service we received. Rating this place 3/5
Sorry but today was not a good day for Gyu-Kaku. Previously i had brillo string in my meal but the icing on the cake was a roach was crawling on my table area. Was able to tell the server and she tried to kill it but only failed . It landed on the seat and crawled away. They tried to help by discounting the check and apologizing. But it sucks cause i do like this place.

This used to be my favorite restaurant for date nights and lunch dates. I haven’t been in a while but they still have all the same servers. On my receipt the name says Chana. She has no personality and barely paid any attention to my Party of 7. At the end I was switched to another server. When asked for my receipt they automatically crossed out the total and added 20% tip. I believe tip is based on service and I didn’t like my service. I wasn’t going to leave no tip at all I was going to do 10% (I usuallly do15-20% tip when service is excellent) I immediately told her that I was not paying the 20% but the 18%. I’m very unsatisfied with the service I received and won’t be coming back. You guys lost a loyal customer of 5+ years.
I’ve been to these restaurants so many times never had any issues it was always great. But This time on Wednesday night I went to this location for the first time we were seated I came with my two daughters and my Sister it was my daughter first time coming and having Japanese BBQ and she loves kimchi however she has allergies so I spoke to our waitress and said I would like to order the kimchi but can you let me know if it is made with Fish sauce because of my daughter allergies she said “Oh so don’t order it . “ because the ingredients is on a box and we throw that away I asked again but can you check to make sure she said “no it’s no use because that box is in the garage”. I just felt like how dismissive it was like you couldn’t even try to help so later as the even went on she never checked in asked us how the food was nothing she never brought the adults water she only brought water to the baby. Additionally the fire was too high it kept burning the meat while the waitress was at the table she watched the flames go high and almost burn my sister and my 3 year old daughter and she said the fire was high but than she came to change the grill and blamed the fire because of the fat .I thought that was interesting because we only was there 10 mins or 15 mins by than and she never said sorry it just wasn’t a good experience overall and she was the Floor Manager. She was Very rude not welcoming at all she never said her name nothing. She talked to us like she was in a rush but there were little to nobody else at the restaurant she talked to us like we didn’t know how to cook beef when really she made the fire to high even though there are kids around. WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD .
this place is getting worse not sure it's been how long, but today the fried chicken came out so dark which used to be golden yellow color, and it was mostly the crispy part really little meat in there. The beef tongue also came out not fresh it was turning dark color and it had a unfresh meaty smell to it.
This review is solely based on the service and cleanliness of the restaurant. \n\nI haven't been here since the fire in 2019. So it's been a few years. Came here for happy hour at 12pm on a Saturda…
When there wasn’t really many people and no line, took about 5min to get seated and waiter didn’t even came until I called them which about close to 10min smh. I came with a kid yet, no one bother to accommodate after more than 5min but you see staff chatting around. Also. I ask the server to serve my kids food but mine came first without any notice about my kids food 🤦🏽♀️.
Service is bad. The blonde woman who served us had a stern face the whole time. Why am I the one trying to be friendly and smile at you when you are the server with a bad attitude. It felt like she was annoyed or not in a good mood which made the dining experience bad. I also had to wave for a different waiter EVERY time because she wasn’t providing any of the services we needed. When I asked for napkins and straws they never came I so had to call for someone else. I don’t understand why there is only one napkin per person when it’s BBQ and very greasy. She turned down our grill when we weren’t done and we had to turn it back up ourselves. She also changed our grill when we were done grilling…(mind you the grill was supposed to be changed earlier because everything was burning and sticking to the old grill). Service was so bad, but still tipped. The woman took the tip and question “this is it?”Mind blown. You should be grateful there was even tip left for you! Because genuinely I was so pissed eating here. Some of the meats and the miso soup are too salty. Won’t EVER revisit for this price, mediocre food, and awful service.
I made reservations, and when I arrived my table was ready — nice and clean, which was a great start. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. My appetizer came out quickly, but I waited about 35 minutes for the rest of my food. The restaurant seemed short-staffed, and it really showed. I arrived around 7:45 p.m. and didn’t leave until almost 10 p.m. because of how slow everything was. Overall, very disappointing service.
COCKROACHES AT THE DINNER TABLE. SO DISAPPOINTED AND DISGUSTED. Went to have dinner at this location, me and my partner regularly go to the 43rd street location. Already the service was not of the best quality we did come in pretty late at 9 and the restaurant closes at 10 but we were being rushed as if we came in 20 minutes before closing. We constantly had to wait around for our waiter to ask for water. Almost at the end of our dinner I noticed a cockroach crawling on the table we were seated at and became immediately concerned and uncomfortable. The manager thought it would be right to give us $10 off after experiencing this and no apology or anything else this entire franchise has now lost us as customers. DO BETTER FOR YOUR GUEST.
Honestly, this was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had at Gyu-Kaku. I understand it’s a self-grill concept, but after they turned on our grill, no one came back to check on us even once. When I was cooking the beef cubes, the fire was way too hot — I actually burned my hand a little. When I called a staff member for help, he just said, “This is already on low heat,” and told me it couldn’t be adjusted smaller. That’s unacceptable. On top of that, the shrimp was clearly not fresh — it was soft and lifeless before cooking, and turned mushy after grilling. The meat didn’t taste fresh either, like it had been sitting in storage for too long. To make things worse, I ended up feeling sick after eating. Very disappointing overall. Poor service, low-quality ingredients, and zero attention to customers. I definitely won’t be coming back.
