Date night at Bas Rouge 🍷 An unforgettable experience from start to finish. Tailor’s dessert cocktails were absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end the evening. Our server Anna was completely on point—warm, attentive, and precise. Philippe’s thoughtfully curated wine selections paired beautifully with each course, elevating the entire experience. And Alex, the manager, was—as always—exceptional, ensuring everything ran seamlessly. Outstanding service, incredible food, and a night that truly felt special. You must try date night here.

First time experience was very nice. I would put this restaurant in line with the charleston in Baltimore as far as quality of food and service. I had the salmon and it was delicious. I don't remember exactly what the first thing we were given was called. It was like a soup with caviar(?). It was phenomenal.

The space is elegant and every detail is beautifully appointed. We were immediately welcomed and the service was consistently impeccable, down to the little stool that was offered for my purse. We had the chef’s tasting with accompanying wines, and it was one of the best meals we have ever had anywhere in the world. Cannot recommend more highly.

An amazing culinary experience! The food was extremely fine, with each dish crafted to perfection. The service was equally impressive, attentive and professional, complementing the excellent cuisine. The environment was warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a truly unforgettable dining experience.

We had a solid great tasting quality meal filled with delicious flavors and good combinations. We loved the French techniques. Great service.

If I could give a 6th star I would. Bas Rouge is an experience you are sure to love and never forget. The menu offers the highest quality ingredients with creative combinations that satisfy the palate with every bite. The staff is very attentive and courteous. They know the menu well and are pleasant to talk with. The ambiance is romantic and cozy particularly in the colder months. They have a very large wine list with selections from around the world. The cocktail we tried was delicious. We did the 4-course (I highly recommend that option) with two appetizers each. The crudo was the best ahi tuna I’ve ever had. Very fresh tuna. The soup before appetizers is delightful. Savor it. The Venison for an entree is shipped New Zealand. If you love game meat, order it. If you love seafood the Scallops are very tender and seared with seasoned butter and white wine. Bread with the meal is all baked in house and there’s several to chose from. All are good. Two I would pick are the cheddar and the pretzel. Dessert is also made in house. We had cashew cake. If you love a rich and velvety cake with hints of vanilla and caramel, this is delicious. The chocolate raspberry tort with vanilla ice creams is outrageously good. They offer us two chocolate macaroons with sea salt and caramel. If they have it, it’s very good. Very much above your average baked goods. They offer after dinner espresso and cocktails as well. They were kind of enough to leave a gift for us after the dinner of a in house baked loaf of bread from The WardRoom and Corn Bread that was baked in house at Bas Rouge. Date night, anniversaries, celebrations would be all the better by coming here. We will be back soon!

Lovely experience last evening for date night dinner. Service was most cordial; everyone was so pleasant; including the diners. First coast oysters were sublime. We love fine dining and do it frequently (and try not to frequent fast food and chains to save money to do so). This was one of our nicest experiences on the East Coast.

This place is tremendous! By far the best service I’ve ever received at a restaurant, and I’ve been to every Michelin starred restaurant in DC and Chicago. The foie gras whipped with cream, layered on a pretzel crust with strawberries on top was mind blowing. The octopus was cooked perfectly where I didn’t even need a knife to cut it, served with potatoes bravas. The duck was like buttahhh, and the herb crust added the perfect balance of crunch and flavor without overtaking the quality of the meat. After the first 3 courses and the amuse bouches between each course, I was stuffed and couldn’t even try to make my way to the dessert course, which I took to go. WOW. So happy I did. Even the next morning, after being stored in the fridge, that is the fluffiest, most delicate blueberry lemon cake I’ve ever tasted. Alex was top notch and goes above and beyond, even when I showed up 9 minutes before opening and asking for a table without a reservation, he made it happen. Him and the other staff member that oversaw me and the other guests worked flawlessly and provided the perfect balance for meal timing, where I was never rushed. They anticipated my every movement so I never once had to ask for something. Amazing! I will definitely be returning, while also trying the other restaurants owned by this restaurateur in Easton.

Everything was amazing! We enjoyed a 3 course meal complimented with champagne & riesling. The first course unfolded with the appetizers— I enjoyed the Lobster Ravioli appetizer & my husband had Warm Vichyssoise Soup (potatoes soup) - both were excellent. Our entrees were perfect. I had Branzino/cauliflower coconut crème (European Sea Bass) - it was moist & flavorful & the coconut cream sauce was an excellent pairing. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the Sirloin Steak w/ béarnaise sauce, very tender and juicy. And his asparagus were cooked just right; a slight crispness with a sweet nutty taste. There was a lovely choice of a warm array of fresh baked artisanal breads and rolls; a treat by themselves. And lastly, the dessert - another 5 star! The decadent cashew cream cake was AAAmazing. It was moist, velvety, filled with gentle layers of cream with tones of vanilla and caramel. This is definitely my favorite. My husband had sorbet & he thought the 2 cookies that were served with the sorbet were the best cookies he ever has ever eaten. They were similar to a butter cookie but not as heavy. A nice surprise gift was given to us as we were leaving....a seving of a baked loaf of bread from The WardRoom. How nice! I would be remiss if I did not mention the first class staff. Shawna, our server was classy, efficient & very personable. Ben, the manager, couldn't have been more welcoming & nice. Anthony, the sommelier, was very helpful & knowledgeable assisting my husband in choosing a bottle of wine. The riesling was just as he described. It was elegantly aromatic with a fruity note of peach. Aaahhh, perfect!! A heartfelt thank you to the entire team for creating such a delightful culinary journey.

We had a spectacular evening! Being a local, the chef created some of the best dishes I’ve ever had. The wait staff were amazing as well and extremely attentive. I was lucky enough to take a friend who maybe more someday for a romantic dinner, she was also quite impressed. My pup Chanel is not a Red Stocking, she’s a Corgi but enjoyed the doggie bag immensely. 😊

Very nice fancy restaurant. Impeccable French style service and excellent food. I had the $100 four course “prix fixe”. The first picture is the complimentary “amuse bouche” then I had the “summer gazpacho” (sorry I had a bite before taking the picture) followed by “tuna tartare” then salmon over lobster as my entrée and the “almond peach tart” for dessert (it looked so good I ate it all before I remembered to take a picture). All was delicious. I will absolutely come back next time I am in town!!!

It was quite an elegant (sans accent aigu), formidable and memorable moment for my wife and me for our 20th anniversary; for my son also, whom we cannot leave out. The service was the classiest that a much caring and attentive staff could have done. The food, drink included, was superb and more than succulent. A 2-hour experience That we would recommend to every couple. Is it the Red Stocking or the Beauceron (dog)? We do not know, and we do not care. One thing we know: the food was great, and WE JUST LOVE BAS ROUGE!

Well, sometimes things *do* live up to all the hype. Sure, it’s an extreme splurge and we may never be able to do it again, but this place was superb, across the board. Laura got the wine pairing and intensely enjoyed every selection they gave her. I ‘traded in’ my wine pairing money for an extra course, and the veal cappelletti I chose may have been the star of the entire (star-studded) evening. They were three jet-black (something to do with charcoal dust!) pasta crown-like deals that absolutely blew us both away. The amuse-bouche was a butternut squash soup that definitely amused both of our bouches. Laura’s pork chop was perfect and yet a supporting actor on the plate named Polenta Dauphine still kinda stole that show. My rack of lamb was the stuff of idealized Easter nostalgia but was something that Grandma never could have made, bless her heart. Even the bread service was fantastic. They had five very different options, all in enticing ‘try me’ bite-sized portions and, unlike in some super high-end places, the out-of-sight but somehow still constantly attentive servers kept coming back to offer more without a trace of haute cuisine judgement. We selected the two “plated” desserts and positively gloated at our wisdom. I chose a chocolate cherry mousse thing that comes in the form of a make-believe giant chocolate cherry and looked magazine-cover good, and improbably tasted even better than it looked, and it looked like its appearance was the only goal! Laura got a panna cotta thing with a local fresh peaches-three-ways twist. She made sounds while enjoying it that I hadn’t heard since before the kids were born. It’s hard to believe since the prices really were high (for us) but we think it was worth every hard-earned penny. It was a truly great experience and a great memory. Thank you, fancy French sheepdog people!

We had a wonderful dining experience at this beautiful restaurant in Easton, MD. From start to finish, the service was impeccable. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, polite and professional. The food was delicious and prepared perfectly. I’ve been to many fine dining restaurants, and Bas Rouge is at the top of the list. We look forward to our return.

Bas Rouge is the most fabulous restaurant we have ever dined in. This is our second visit to this establishment. We first had the pleasure of having lunch at Bas Rouge. The food was absolutely delicious. More importantly was the service. The staff and service was absolutely top notch. Perfect attention to detail by the staff without being intrusive. I suspect that we will never find a restaurant that will surpass the Bas Rouge experience in the mid Atlantic. .

May 14 I dined with my sister & daughter at Bas Rouge. The Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema’s write up on the restaurant made us really want to try it. We loved it. One of THEE best restaurants we have ever eaten at. The service was exemplary. The food was outstanding certainly deserving of Michelin stars, many. We shall return ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow!!! We had dinner with friends a few months ago and hands down the best in town. The old saying that you get what you pay for is an understatement. The service and food far exceeded expectations. The wine list did not disappoint. This may not be for everyone, but if you can appreciate what Bas Rouge offers its clients, you won't be disappointed. 👍👍

High end dining with well coordinated friendly unassuming accommodating wait staff who are very knowledgeable and helpful. Sophisticated and no compromise in the decor. Finally what matters the most; the food is inspirational, consistent, and tasty works of art. Wine expertise and broad selection readily available.

Summary: having made the rounds of DC’s Michelin Star restaurants Bas Rouge should advance in priority to any diner’s “to visit” list. I would rather visit Bas Rouge on a monthly basis - summer beach traffic be damned - than visit Inn At Little Washington. If Michelin in the US is worth anything they would bequeath their entirety of stars upon this establishment - yes it is that good. I have nothing but praise for service, wine pairing, and culinary execution. It is truly phenomenal in every possible category. Go.

Elegant and very professional service. The food was top notch, but do allow yourself enough time to enjoy it. The "experience" does take a bit more time than your average sit-down restaurant.

Absolutely incredible. Michelin star worthy. The concept and menu create such a unique dining experience (it is Viennese). Would be equally competitive in any major city like NYC. Food, service, and drinks were all impeccable. Appreciate that they were able to work us in on a busy night!

We did the four course tasting menu and our table fought over every plate (we tried the entire menu) and they were all ridiculously delicious. Shawna and team were absolutely amazing and we can’t wait to come back. Wow!

This place is spectacular. The attention to detail begins when you arrive and doesn’t waiver until you leave, satisfied, and with a beautiful olive oil cake for the road. Every time we dine here the experience is memorable and this is due to their attention to detail, delicious menu, perfect wine pairings, and thoughtful service. The premium wine pairings are worth the step up as we were stunned to enjoy some of our hard to find favorites. The staff are engaging with the intent of going above and beyond to make your evening the best it can possibly be. Love every moment we spend here.

After reading the review in the Washington Post we decided to dine at Bas Rouge to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Together with my younger son and daughter-in-law we traveled to the other side of the bay on a blustery Saturday evening. We anticipated a fine dining experience however the entire meal exceeded our expectations. The room was lovely and the entire staff was welcoming, knowledgeable and gracious. The food did not disappoint from the delicious amuse to the striking and delicious desserts. As a long time wine collector I was duly impressed with the wine list and the concern and expertise of the wine staff. It is wonderful to know other people still place a premium on fine dining. We certainly will return.

It is said that the food in a restaurant mirrors the person of the Chef. This is one of those rare moments that the Chef’s passion & care radiate through the well thought of & excellent execution of his dish creations. The heartfelt service of all the staff is so pure & genuine that our experience today, we will forever cherish. I have to mention Shawna for her exceptional service. We decided to travel for nearly 2 hours after we learned through an article that a Chef in Easton recently won the James Beard Award. We are certainly glad we did. While the set up is upscale, it isn’t uptight. It’s actually very relaxing. Comfortable. Pleasant. The restroom is spotless. The place is well appointed & maintained. Table linens, utensils, glasswares & plates are so clean & sparkly. The other customers are also very nice. You get a sense that they also enjoy their food, satisfied with the service & leave the place with such contentment as you witness the smiles on their faces. It would really be nice to have a restaurant like this nearby. But we won’t mind heading out to Easton just for Bas Rouge. Without a doubt, we will be back often from hereon To the Bas Rouge staff & management, thank you for giving us such a beautiful dining experience in your lovely & quaint restaurant. We didn’t just eat fresh & well prepared food; You have taken dining into a whole new level. Your genuine & incomparable care towards your customers from all walks of life topped with your delectable dishes tremendously set you apart. The upkeep of your dining area (especially the restroom) is divine. We definitely had the Bas Rouge Experience.

Wonderful food and perfect service on a recent Saturday night. Wine recommendation - a Cotes du Rhone - was so delicious. We both had cheeseboards for dessert which could have been my meal.

I’ve been blessed to have had the opportunity to dine at some wonderful establishments, Bas Rouge is exceptional. From end to end a fantastic dining experience, bread service was first rate, excellent croissant, brioche, and cheese scones, each dish was expertly balanced and executed, faint nuances and subtle touches of balanced culinary art. We did the 4 courses and sort of shared some bites as a couple, it was fantastic. The service was exceptional, first rate. I had high expectations and this exceeded them, all I can say is well done and thank you.

This review is long overdue. We dined at Bas Rouge a little over 3 weeks ago and I am still dreaming about it. We went big with the tasting menu for the evening. Every single dish was better than the next. I could safely say I could not pick a favorite because they were all impeccable. The service was top notch. Extremely attentive and also very kind. Bas Rouge reminded me of when I grew up going to Le Bec-Fin. I am not sure how this fabulous restaurant wound up where it is, but the locals are blessed. I would camp out in Easton (a 2 hour drive from where I now reside) just to eat here. It's that amazing. A must try. We certainly will be back and I will be bringing all my family and friends since I can't stop raving about the food and the service. Thank you again for the wonderful experience.

Very special dining experience. Only 45 minutes from Annapolis. Bas Rouge and a stroll through all the wonderful spots in Easton are a must. It’s wonderful. You don’t want to miss it during the Holidays or in the New Year.

Exceptional, exceeded all my expectations. Hubs and I had read an article about how great this place was. We put it on our must-try list. We live on the western shore and had a multi-day stay-cation on the eastern shore. By far this was our best dining experience, but it also rivals many of our favorite restaurants in DC and in other cities. We would stay in Easton overnight just to dine here again. We did the 4 course meal just so we could try additional things. Everything we tried was Exceptional, novel, lovely, esthetic, delicious, prepared with care. And the service was outstanding. 10/10 would eat here again. Hubs was the designated meal photographer, but I wish I had a few shots to share.

Another great dinner at Bas Rouge. The food was delicious, the service was both friendly and prompt, and the atmosphere is about the best on the shore. I look forward to my next dining experience at Bas Rouge!

Bas Rouge is a truly first rate restaurant. No matter what is on the menu, and no matter whether it sounds like something you would normally enjoy, the odds are it is sufficiently exceptional that you will enjoy even something you do not normally like. When a salad is memorable, even compared to a steak, you know you are at a great restaurant. The staff are wonderful and committed to the restaurant, so always working to make it remain a first-class experience, year to year!

I can't say enough...we did the 7 course with wine pairing and it was off the chart. The staff takes time to go over the menu, the wines etc. Very accommodating and helpful. We had reservations and we were not rushed one bit. Highly recommend!

First , Easton is a delightful community with a vibrant downtown, where Bas Rouge is located. This is fine dining and one should be expecting to pay top dollar for the experience here. Service is very attentive and timely. For the weekend outing with our party of four, we had reservations early in the evening, which had largely booked up some weeks in advance. We had fixed price with three courses with a few bite-sized offerings thrown in between those courses. One can easily amp up the expense by adding regular or premium wine pairings with each course, which we opted against, instead asking the sommelier for a recommendation for a bottle which was fine, but still close to $100. Several members of the party had traditional cocktails to start which were as-expected, nothing out of the ordinary. Parking can be available for free nearby and the surrounding area is very walkable. My recommendation is to book the reservation well in advance, look at the menu ahead of time because the dishes can be a bit complicated, but done very artfully, and finally don't be surprised by the cost. For a unique or special occasion, our experience was quite elegant the delicious. Although this is in a fairly casual community, the dress among patrons here was more formal with some of the men wearing sportcoats, but apparently not required (seemingly a rarity).

I feel like I should preface this review with saying that in many ways the bar I'm comparing this to is the Inn at Little Washington. With that said, this is a top-notch dining experience where the service was TRULY the star imho. The service paired with the thoughtful (and tasty) food outweigh the overall layout of the dining area. My only "critique" is the setting of the restaurant. The tables are very close to one another so if you're looking to have a more intimate dining experience, be prepared for your neighbors to be all up in your conversation: not very intimate... Our server was knowledgable, helpful, and a delight. The wine list was extensive and had a bottle for every budget. We essential came to Easton to experience Bas Rouge and it was WORTH IT.

2 4-course meals, 2.5 glasses of wine, $500 (after tip). Everything was delicious, but the quantities were very light. I understand this is common with French cuisine, but it was light. Also, although delicious, my snapper looked like it was parched. For this price, my meal should have looked as perfect as it tasted.

I had a Saturday lunch here over a holiday weekend. The restaurant's menu and decor are certainly tasteful, but something about the service made me want to leave as soon as possible. I live on Madison Avenue in NYC and am used to high end dining. The BR staff was attentive yet frenetic, which is not the vibe I am looking for on the Eastern Shore. It felt like dining with your grandparents at the country club circa 1995. Overall nice experience though. The menu is obviously elegant and reflects a talented chef and team.

Bas Rouge delivers on atmosphere, service, and attention to detail, but unfortunately, the food fell short of expectations. My wife and I opted for the Chef’s Tasting menu (seven courses, if I recall correctly), hoping for a memorable culinary experience. However, for nearly $500 on food alone, the dishes didn’t justify the price. While beautifully presented, they lacked depth, excitement, and the kind of standout flavors that make a fine dining experience truly exceptional. I’ve had far more impressive meals at significantly lower price points, both in Maryland and beyond. That said, the service was impeccable. The staff was attentive, professional, and flawlessly coordinated, enhancing the overall dining experience. The restaurant itself exudes elegance, with meticulous attention to ambiance and presentation. Ultimately, we just wish the food had matched the excellence of everything else. Perhaps it was an off night, but at this price point, there’s little room for inconsistency.

We have been here twice. It's gorgeous and well appointed, the staff is friendly and attentive. The menus are well thought out and sound delicious - execution on some dishes was spotty. Solid wine recommendations, 3 stars because you can get better food for less.

T

My wife and I dined here, and both had the 3 course dinner menu. Our food was mostly good but with some missed opportunities - in particular the scallops ($45 surcharge) were disappointing and the gnocchi was not particularly tasty. For the price we paid I would have expected better! Service was OK but at times slightly chaotic - lots of staff but no apparent manager or leader meaning at times getting any attention was tricky! On balance we would probably choose not to return to Bas Rouge and you can eat almost as well in Easton for a lot less

I hesitated on writing a review because I believe all restaurants have the ability to be amazing however, for the price of our evening and the experience , I was very disappointed. My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary about a week ago for dinner on a Friday night. The food was very delicious, very flavorful and displayed beautifully on the plate. The drinks too were also very fresh and well crafted. However, and this is the most memorable part of the evening the service was less than desired. After we received our first drinks, we decided to take a few moments to exchange cards and chat however, our timeline and the staffs timeline clearly didn’t match up. The server came to our table twice, about 3 minutes apart to take our order however we weren’t ready just yet, we informed her that we still needed a few moments to which we were abruptly met by a male server who stated we needed to order both our starters and our main entrees NOW. After that we were pretty thrown off, throughout the rest of our time there we felt like everything was moving very quickly to the point where we weren’t enjoying ourselves at all. We are no strangers to eating at nice restaurants and completely understand that we live in a time when tables are given time limits however this was not a time limit issue, I honestly couldn’t tell you what the issue was. We make it our business to eat at almost every restaurant in Easton and in Saint Michael’s however, by far this was our most unpleasant experience. We both agreed we shall not be returning.

S
Sarah Voigt

The food was excellent in taste and presentation. However, for a restaurant that prides themselves on a fine dining experience, I need to make a comment on the service. My mother and I arrived (on time) for our reservation and immediately felt rushed. We were offered a selection of cocktails and sparkling wines upon arrival and each decided to enjoy a glass of champagne. Within a few moments of receiving the drinks and deciding on the menu, we were immediately presented with our amuse bouche and accompanying wine pairing (another champagne). At this point we had probably each had two to three sips of the original champagne. We were pushed through the courses and wine pairings so quickly that at one point we each had three glasses of unfinished wine on the table. When the wine for the main course was presented, I was simply told that the server thought that it was “the best Chardonnay” without mention of even the origin. Mind you this was the premier wine pairing at $125 per person and we ended up spending nearly $800 for two people including tip. Frankly at this price point this level of service is unacceptable.

M
Matt m

What a disappointment. Lousy food (bland, poorly prepared) and even worse wine chosen by a grumpy, talentless sommelier. It also seemed strange to us that it was completely dead on a Friday night when other well-regarded restaurants nearby were all busy. Perhaps word has gotten around about this place.

If you dislike your spouse and the people you’re dining with—if you prefer silence, no laughter, no conversation, and staring down at your plate—then this is the restaurant for you. This place tries desperately to present itself as “upscale,” but joy, warmth, and human connection are clearly unwelcome here. We were having a wonderful evening—laughing, enjoying one another’s company, and celebrating life. There was literally no one else in our dining room. Rather than simply letting paying guests enjoy themselves, the owner—a wealthy, arrogant man who showed up tableside in a flannel shirt—felt compelled to interrupt us to say, “I’m happy you’re having fun,” followed immediately by informing us that this is a quiet restaurant. Our dinner for a party of five was nearly $5,000. We will never return. Fortunately for the owner, his wealth likely insulates him from caring about the loss of patrons who actually enjoy life and each other’s company. Annapolis, thankfully, has a growing restaurant scene—one driven by truly classy operators, like Atlas Restaurant Group, who understand that great dining includes joy, laughter, and connection. I wish nothing but difficult times for an owner who is so clearly soulless, pretentious, and hostile to the very people who keep his business alive. ———————————— Response to owner response: ———————————— First, let’s address the matter of appearance, since you raised it. An owner presenting himself tableside in skinny jeans, sneakers, and an untucked flannel shirt—while enforcing rigid rules about “upscale” behavior—perfectly encapsulates the confusion at the heart of this establishment. If that is now considered appropriate for fine dining, it was certainly news to us. More importantly, your assertion that we were “politely asked multiple times” to quiet down is simply false. At no point—not once—did any member of your staff ask us to lower our voices, temper laughter, or otherwise modify our behavior. That claim is a fabrication introduced only after the fact to justify an unnecessary and poorly handled confrontation. What did occur is this: your restaurant was largely empty. In that vacuum, ordinary conversation naturally carries. We were not loud, disruptive, or inappropriate. We were engaged, joyful, and celebrating. If our table stood out, it was not because of excess—it was because the room lacked energy, not because we supplied too much of it. Your explanation that other diners were moved to avoid us only reinforces this point. A vibrant, confident restaurant absorbs laughter and conversation effortlessly. A quiet room magnifies everything. That is not a guest problem—it is an atmosphere problem. Until your intervention, your staff was excellent. They were warm, professional, engaged, and clearly enjoying the interaction. The moment you inserted yourself into the evening, the tone changed. The room tightened. The ease disappeared. You cast a shadow that had not existed before you arrived. Despite this, we tipped your staff $1,000 to reflect the quality of their service—service delivered in spite of your involvement, not because of it. You would be far better served allowing your team to do their jobs and refraining from direct guest engagement altogether. Hospitality requires humility, judgment, and restraint. Your response—both that night and here—demonstrates none of the three. Instead, it reflects defensiveness, revisionism, and an inflated sense of authority that mistakes control for class. We will not return. Not because of noise policies, attire, or even food—but because leadership matters. You own the restaurant. You set the tone. And when things went wrong, you chose denial over reflection. That tells us everything we need to know.

Never again! We were not expecting rushed and rude service and mediocre food at this establishment. At nearly $1,000 for a meal, this is inexcusable. I checked the reviews and found that others had similar disappointing experiences - bland food, small portions, high prices, and rushed (even rude) service. We coincidentally arrived early for our reservation and were rushed from the moment we walked in the door. They took the drink menus from us before one of us had a chance to even look at it. They had to return at least one menu so we could make a wine selection. The waitress was quite rude, pointing her finger at my menu insisting that I order both my appetizer and my meal immediately, heavily tapping her finger on the menu items. This all before I had a chance to even begin to enjoy my cocktail. During the meal, they removed my butter dish almost as soon as they put it down. Later, I noticed the six people at the table next to us were drinking leisurely all through our dinner. They didn't seem to receive their menus until we were on our dessert course. There was little to no courtesy regarding dietary restrictions that were provided both in advance and again at the table upon our arrival. The waitess seemed to be annoyed and didn't want to bother reviewing the food sensitivity card provided to her. The dance of adding and removing plates and silverware that was not needed or used bordered on ridiculous, especially because they were rushing things along. This may have been more meaningful at a slower pace. The final straw was when the "head" waiter rolled his eyes at one of the guests over a simple request At a previous last visit, Bas Rouge had a special appetizer prepared in advance that addressed the food sensitivities. They went to great lengths to make sure we had a nice experience and asked us numerous times if we would be back. We were hoping to share that type of experience with our guests to celebrate their retirement. Sadly, Bas Rouge underperformed at so many levels that it was embarrassing. Well, we kept our promise to Bas Rouge. We did return. However, rather than leaving happy and relaxed, we left hungry and annoyed. We will never return to this restaurant. It was an unpleasant experience at any price point, inexcusable at their prices. The restaurant was told well in advance that we were celebrating a retirement, yet there was no acknowledgment of the occasion. The restaurant was also advised of dietary restrictions of one of the guests well in advance. Both were blatantly ignored. We were all dressed appropriately in business casual - men in jackets, women in a dress or nice slacks. Others in the restaurant were dressed casually, one man in what looked like a Ban-Lon shirt and shorts. And, on this Saturday evening, the restaurant was not full. It wasn't even crowded. We are not strangers to fine dining. And, I can tell you this is not it. It was awful. We were all very disappointed and upset by this experience. All of us dine out regularly, but never again at Bas Rouge. There are so many local restaurants with better food and service.
