This was my first time at Shanlitun Iron Pot Stew, and overall it was pretty good. The dishes tasted authentic, especially their iron pot stewed chicken — tender and juicy. The place isn’t fancy but clean, and the service was prompt. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but worth trying.

I recommend fried pork with sweet and sour sauce, five vegetable with noodle ( this is cold noodle..), hotpod ( i prefer spicy one) , yuxiangrouxi ( if you like sweet slice of beef)... i have ordered disanxian.. Absolutely loved the live fish hot pot at Happy Valley Village ! The fish was super fresh (killed and cooked on the spot), with tender and clean-tasting meat—no fishy smell at all. The broth was incredible—rich, flavorful, and clearly slow-cooked with fish bones and chicken. I couldn’t stop drinking it! The side dishes were also great—especially the pickled radish and handmade tofu. They soaked up all the flavor from the broth and were absolutely delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. Staff took time to explain the menu and spice levels, and they checked on us frequently. The atmosphere was cozy and rustic, perfect for a casual meal with friends or family. Highly recommend if you love fresh fish, rich broth, and authentic flavors. Can’t wait to come back!

Came here for the iron pot fish stew and it did not disappoint! The fish was tender and flavorful, simmered perfectly with vegetables and tofu. The portion was huge — great for sharing. The rustic style and warm service reminded me of home-cooked meals in northern China. Will definitely come back!

The **convenient location** couldn’t be better—tons of parking in the plaza, right next to the supermarket, making it an easy stop for groceries + dinner in one trip. The dining room is spacious and relaxed with **casual dining** vibes—bright lighting, big round tables perfect for groups, and even **private rooms** available for larger parties or special occasions. **Service was friendly**—the staff greeted us warmly, explained the menu patiently (great for first-timers trying goose hot pot), and kept the broth refills and side dishes coming quickly. Ordered the signature **Northeast goose hot pot** with **cornbread** on the side. The goose meat was tender and flavorful, the broth rich with herbs and that distinctive Northeast earthiness. Slicing the goose tableside added fun theater, and the cornbread (sweet Northern-style) soaked up the broth nicely. Plenty of veggies, tofu, and noodles to cook—classic hot pot enjoyment. That said, deductions based on my personal preferences keep it from a full 5. The broth leaned **too sweet** for my taste (common in some Northeast styles, but it dominated), felt a bit **greasy** toward the end, and some elements (like certain banchan and the cornbread) tasted **pre-prepped** rather than freshly made that day. Still, Happy Valley earns a solid 4.4 for delivering a unique goose hot pot experience in a friendly, convenient plaza spot with private room options. It’s a fun change from standard lamb or beef hot pot—worth trying if you’re in Hacienda Heights and want something different. I’d return with a group, just might ask for lighter seasoning next time.

First off, this was the first time trying goose in general. I didn’t know what to expect, but after letting the fatty tender meat chunks hit my tongue, I’ve determined this may be the best tasting bird I have ever had the opportunity to enjoy. It has been hard to go back to basic birds. The big fatty goose meat chunks remind me in the easiest way possible, a combination of the texture of a beef steak with the fatty skin of a duck. It is a banger for sure. All the other side dishes we ordered were fantastic too. The only food item I was indifferent about was the yellow corn bread things. They just didn’t have much flavor even after being soaked in the soup. It also may have been a texture issue. Try to get a table that isn’t next to the restrooms. Although the aromas of the food generally masked the restroom smells, there were definitely restroom smells to begin with. I want authentic ethnic food, but not that authentic, ya feel?

First of all, the staff here have absolutely no sense of service. They brought a pot of water and covered the pot with a lid, then took away one of the dishes that was sitting on the lid. After that, the server just stood there holding another plate, waiting for me to move the rest of the dishes so she could put hers down — even though the rack was literally right next to her. When a restaurant is super busy, I don’t mind lending a hand as a guest. But when it’s not busy at all, having the server stand there with a lukewarm dish, using eye contact to signal me to help her move things, is honestly unacceptable. And as someone from Northeast China, I really can’t call this “铁锅炖.” They should rename it “soy sauce soup hotpot.” After “stewing” for half an hour you can basically use it to dip raw meat… On top of that, no one ever came to clear our plates. Overall, the service was so poor that even giving 1 star feels generous. Too much oil in the dumplings
