Best masa I’ve had on the west coast. They grind the corn flour right there and make every single taco fresh each order. There divine fresh homemade hot sauces! The al pastor was excellent - flavorful, juicy, and even lean! FWIW, I have a sensitive tummy to high acid and high fat foods, and I had no problems what so ever. My bf has zero stomach issues and also thought it was divine. Even the sangria was creative, thoughtfully crafted, and delicious. Going back!
Update: new owners and the food and vibe has really improved! The Al pastor tacos are elite. They have ridiculously tasty non-alcoholic drinks -- I usually don't order things like agua fresca, but wow, excellent. Perfect on a summer day. The food is very high quality and you can taste it. If you want higher quality Mexican food, give it a shot.
Oh. My. Gosh. Wanted to grab a nice lunch in Fairfax during a long moto ride, but didn’t expect to find such an incredible gem of a spot. The atmosphere was immaculate, with the staff being friendly, the outside seating being beautiful, and everything’s chic and well-decorated. The food itself was spectacular. We got the loaded nachos, the rockfish tacos, and the pork quesadilla. Everything was bursting with flavor and freshness. The hot sauces that came with the food paired beautifully, one more sour and the other more spicy. The tortillas were so soft yet stayed together and were very delicious, bringing another dimension of taste to the food. I really enjoyed my experience here and I’ll be dreaming of coming back soon.
Damn good tacos! Yellowtail and vegan (cauliflower / veggie) were out of this world! So much flavor! The hot sauce is spectacular but watch out, it is actually hot! Great patio, super friendly staff. Definitely coming back!
I'm totally addicted to this place when having dinner in Fairfax. They have a great selection of beer on tap and as well as wine by the glass. The place has a quaint interior so it can get crowded however there is a fair amount of seating outside in the patio area. Their Three Sisters Salad is wonderful and their braised beef tacos are to die for. Their portions are generous and the service is friendly and inviting.
Absolutely some of the best food I’ve ever had! True california/mexican food. Very healthy, affordable, fresh ingredients, incredible recipes. I would eat here every week if I lived nearby. We had the salad, sweet potato quesadilla, cauliflower tacos, agua fresca and flan. There was homemade hot sauce and homemade tortillas. Every dish was SO GOOD. I can’t wait to eat here again!
Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication.” And this is a taco spot that has executed on that quote to perfection. The guac and Al pastor tacos were some of the best I’ve ever had. Cheers and ty for having me. P.S. nothing but love for the younger gentlemen with the fun tattoos (Chris) killing wasps with an electric flyer swatter. You’re the hero Fairfax deserves.
Enchiladas verdes, salad, and any of the quesadillas or tacos. The beans. I’ve tried most of the menu and am always excited to eat there again.
Mas Masa is an absolute gem! The food is incredibly fresh and flavorful—every bite feels like a celebration of bold and authentic flavors. The staff is just as wonderful, making the experience even better with their warm and welcoming service. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or a full meal, you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommend!
Mas Masa has hands down the best tacos in Marin. The environment, staff, and food all create an amazing experience to dine and hang out after long work days. Family friendly and great outdoor space for sunny days! Highly recommend!
Stellar Mexican food in the heart of Fairfax! They have the standard fare you would expect, but made it very simple for our vegan friend to find complete meals that tickled his taste buds. In a street with several restaurant options, they stand out as one of the absolute best.
Absolutely delicious and authentic food! The tortillas are hand made and what we want we look for real Mexican food. Sweet atmosphere and lovely outdoor patio for outdoor dining. I had the meat taco (bursting with flavors) and a cauliflower taco. So fresh and yummy! Definitely get the homemade sangria...I could have had a carafe to myself it was so good. Ownership changed recently and I can taste the changes in the recipes making it a worthy stop.
Best Mexican food we’ve had in a while. Great cauliflower tacos for vegetarians! The side of heirloom beans was so good.
Karina and Ana always make dining at their restaurant a memorable experience. Mas Masa offers the freshest and best local ingredients for the authentic recipes on their menu. The food was delicious and served by a friendly staff in a timely manner. My daughter chose Mas Masa as the venue to celebrate her birthday. Instead of a cake we requested the flan. It was the best we ever tasted.
Order at the counter and take a table. No awkwardness about it. They greet you right away and are very friendly. We ordered Al Pastor and Snapper tacos, chips and guacamole, heirloom beans, nachos, and each of their salads. They were ALL beautifully presented and equally delicious. The horchata was one of the best I have had. They're doing a great job! Would definitely go again and recommend to friends.
I can't say enough about the flavor, quality, and freshness of this place! I love that the new owners are buying more organic ingredients and from farmers markets, and fine-tuning recipes to up the flavor and authenticity - you can really taste the difference! I just got back from Mexico and the tortillas had changed while I was gone; the hand made tortillas from corn ground daily were already very special, and now they taste like the real thing! I'm vegetarian and love the cauliflower tacos with a side of beans, and also love that they often have veggie specials (like last week's Mexican street corn fresh from the farmers market!), but I've heard good things about the al pastor tacos and chicken quesadillas, too. It might not be cheap, but it feels like a really good value for the quality you get, and nothing is cheap these days anyway (a salad elsewhere costs more than tacos and a side of beans here). Highly recommend!
Good beer and food. Outdoor/indoor seating. Recommend specials(enchiladas, fish tacos) and ask what's NOT on the menu.
One of the best Mexican food I had in the Bay Area. Pork quesadillas, guacamole, and fish tacos were great. It is an all organic restaurant and you can tell from the quality of ingredients. The sauces they make are really good as well.
Beautiful restaurant in Fairfax. Hard to imagine that a little town like that can have such a gem 💎 Beautifully designed space, with lots of lights and plants makes space for a delicious and healthy Mexican cuisine. Dishes are made simple, nothing extra and the balance of taste is perfect. The tortillas are made fresh using only organic non-GMO corn 🌽 following the more traditional way of preparing and cooking the mais. The difference is there to taste. Highly recommended!
Great stop after mountain, biking or hiking the backwoods and mountains of Fairfax just on the edge of downtown this delicious and well-known restaurant never disappoints. Sweet, mock tails of pineapple and mint breakfast burritos with a balance of potato and egg and veggies or enchiladas with chicken and Verde sauce. Mouth watering.
Excellent street tacos. Service was prompt and staff were very knowledgeable about celiac disease. With the exception of some beer offerings, the kitchen is dedicated gluten free so celiacs rejoice! Nice location. The community of Fairfax has a really nice vibe. I will make a point to visit again when I'm in the Bay Area.
I love the maitake mushroom quesadillas, made to perfection and the fresh yellowtail tacos were yummy. Not to mention the 3 different kinds of house sauces!!! Tasty!
Amazing flavors, healthy ingredients, original presentation in a hip, yet low-key, setting. Perfect for a family or a date. Stand-up ordering, but the subsequent service is more attentive than in most full-service restaurants. The mixed beans and tortillas are all house made, and you really taste the difference. Why can't more taco joints be this delicious and healthy??
Delicious! The organic masa is ground daily. We tried the chips and guacamole, ono tacos (fish tacos) and sweet potato quesadillas. The housemade chicha morada (drink with peruvian purple corn, pomegranate, pineapple, and spices) was delicious as well. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available. Upon entering, you order your meal and are given a number to then seat yourself.
The rockfish tacos are the best ive ever had!! Reasonable prices and super friendly staff. Great music and atmosphere. The three sisters salad was also on point. I never leave reviews but this place deserves a lot of praise. Thank you for a great experience!

Always excellent. Truly fresh and delicious food made here. Fresh tortillas are a star!
Your quest is over weary traveler. The al pastor burrito is the finest burrito in Marin County. Cease your yearning and feast upon the hallowed spoils of exploration.
This is Fairfax treasure! Heirloom, organic, innovative, fresh food! The amazing passionate visionary women who own and run this business pull their inspiration from ancestral recipes. This is not a run of the mill restaurant. You will not find this caliber of outstanding Mexican food anywhere else in Marin County!
Mas Masa in Fairfax is a favorite - we eat here a couple times a month and it’s consistently excellent. The service is always warm and attentive, the team is amazing, and the food is delicious every time. Big shout-out to Fernando, and the amazing team he leads, who make every visit a great experience. Highly recommend!
So fresh & delicious! We had the green seasonal fruit salad w/ chicken. The cheese, toasted pepita's, strawberries made this an all-star salad. We each had the fish tacos on a recommendation of a hiker we met & they were THE BEST WE'VE EVER HAD (from a bougie fish taco connisour). We really enjoyed the covered patio seating. $70ish

Great beer selection, awesome casual ambiance, and interesting fresh menu. Kale salad could have been a bit more flavorful. Special slow cooked pork taco was spot-on and homemade hot sauce was great. Awesome spot for a post Alpine Lake hike!
Nice atmosphere but not too many seating arrangement inside. So if it's hot summer day, it may be inconvenient. Next, let's talk about food. Food tasted good. But the nacho portion was literally the smallest one I have ever seen and I didn't like that. And interestingly nachos came later than the entree 🤷🏽♀️ Shouldn't appetizer be served first?
A bit overpriced for what it is but the food is good and the drinks are delicious! Kind servers
Great place and menu. Loved chips and salsa guacamole aqua Fresca. Good kale salad, was a little bland but otherwise great. Nice patio with powerful heaters
Mas Masa is a real mixed bag of food and service. Chicken quesadilla, ice tea, chips and sauces(not salsa) was just under $25. The quesadilla was not a true quesadilla at all, it was really a taco disguised as a quesadilla. The quesadilla/taco tasted good, but the portions are very small. The tortilla chips were not good quality. The salsa verde had a strong vinegar taste, not good. The other sauces for the chips were so so. To order you have to go to the register. The server forgot to give me my ice tea. Overall for the price point the food should be better and bigger portions on the main dishes. $15 for a quesadilla that was the absolute equivalent to two tacos? I give this business a moderate recommendation

Did not like how the manager or the older worker was interacting with other workers and looking at them. We asked for extra salsa and the manager said in negative tone said "they are in the bag." Waiter still got us 1 salsa. The younger workers there were very sweet and accomadating to our needs. Lots of chicken in the tacos but very bland, better for nutrients rather than taste. Beans pretty good. Tortilla Chips are not homemade tasted like store bought chips. Oyster Mushroom quesadillas were bomb. They serve "hot sauce" not salsa. In conclusion the service of the youngsters and the nice atmosphere made this place a good experience, sad the older worker or manager had to ruin it for us.
The food here is okay but overpriced. The horchata tasted like sweet oat milk, and the pozole didn’t taste much like pozole. The mushroom tacos were fine, and the fish tacos were also okay. I wouldn’t recommend it to people who have been to Mexico because you will likely be disappointed. However, if you've never been to Mexico, you might probably like it 🤷🏽♀️ Service was fast and people were friendly 😊
This place used to be so good. The atmosphere and location are great but the food was so overpriced and nothing special. It was $16 for a side of beans and rice for our baby and they were out of both the fish and el pastor tacos on the menu.
Overpriced for small portions of "okay" food. I used to work at this place before the pandemic and change of ownership. Even after the change of owners I would still haunt this place for the items i knew were good. Went there a few weeks ago an ordered a small salad with chicken - $21. Flies are everywhere in the patio. Food just doesn't meet the quality for the price like it used too. Wont be going back...Better choice would be establishments in San Rafael and the Canal that give you more than a decent meal for a reasonable price.
The tacos were tasty (nothing too special) but they cost 9 dollars a piece. Two birria tacos, average size, 18 dollars. No beans and rice, nothing else. This is insane.
While my dining companions stated that the fish tacos were pretty good I was pretty disappointed. My $18. burrito chicken al pastor was mostly rice & beans with a trace amount of chicken. A mediocre Mexican restaurant, especially for CA!
Crazy spendy for what you get. One dry tortilla per taco, and very stingy with the meat. “Pickled veggies” are boilerplate. Margaritas decent. $50 later I’m like sheesh I gotta go eat again somewhere. They have work to do
I went to Mas Masa earlier this week and saw "Alaskan salmon" on the menu. Having recently returned from commercial fishing salmon in Alaska I was excited to try some of my catch. I asked the waiter what type of salmon were in the tacos interested if it was the species we were catching (sockeye). He said he would go ask the chef and when he returned, he said it was "Atlantic salmon". There is no "Atlantic salmon" in Alaska. There is no wild "Atlantic salmon" period. I let him know this and returned to my meal not wanting to waste $19 even if it was for dog food. The chef then had the audacity to send the server back out to tell me that the "Atlantic salmon was from Alaska". Excuse me... where in the hell is the Atlantic Ocean in Alaska. I have spent my past 5 summers commercially fishing salmon in Alaska. I can say with confidence that he was boldly lying to my face. Maybe next time you gaslight your customers, pick someone less informed (or without a middle school geography degree).
Winner worst Mexican restaurant in Marin. Top it off with ridic prices. Up to 19 for 2 dried up mini tacos with nothing on the side. With the name of the restaurant you'd think it made good tortillas at least. Theirs are dried up rookie versions.

Overpriced food— you can taste the lard in the beans, no thanks!!! Their recipes are not refined enough to be considered restaurant quality. Hard no, save your money and happily pass on this!
